I use mine all the time. The only thing I've heard bad about them is that they tend to overblend at times. (like for salsa) I haven't had that problem yet, as I use it mostly for shakes. Mine came with two sizes of cups, so I just use the big one all the time. So far, no problemos. Micky

My after results were great. So, stick with the program and your next results will be a wonderful surprise for you and your doc.

If it truly concerns you, contact a doctor. Personally, I wouldn’t be overly concerned. Sprinting for 60 seconds will definitively get one’s heart a pumpin’! How long did it take for you to recover? If your recovery time seems excessive, then I’d be concerned.

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (408 posts) at 07:51 AM:
How did you determine your max HR? Unless you did it from a formula starting with your resting HR in the morning, it may be inacurate. The method of subtracting your age from a certain number is only an estimate. Also, I always use my own HR monitor- somrtimes the one on the machine will be 184 or 199 but my wrist monitor says the correct #, usually in the 160's. Sometimes the machine one wacks out and gives a wrong reading, so if it ever seems wrong, do it again. Finally, it is OK to be close to max for your 10's. My 10's are always about 174. It would be hard for me to go longer than a minute at that pace, but it is OK as long as you feel good! If you're in good enough shape to be sprinting on the treadmill for your 10's you are probably OK. Go with your gut- percieved exertion!

I know when you do your HIIT you are suppose to wait a least 1 hr before eating your meal, but what is the max amount of time?? Is 1.5 hours too long?? ALSO.. how long do you all wait to eat on lifting days??

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2211 posts) at 12:22 PM:
I wait an hour but I've gone 40 mins or I've gone 1.5 hours. But with lifting I might have a few mouthfuls of something but I always eat immediately after!!!!

thank you for answering!!! Anyone else?

Body for Life Forum Message by shkelly (183 posts) at 12:46 PM:
I don't know if there is a max per say but you need to get something in your system within a reasonable time so you don't burn up your muscle too. An hour and half on occasion shouldn't hurt anything. I also eat right after a weight workout....body needs the fuel to recover!! Shelly =)

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (253 posts) at 05:56 PM:
I agree with shelly, I wait an hr after cardio (too much longer and you will burn your hard earned lean muscle). I eat right after a weight session to fuel the body!

Do you all count calories / carbs and protein grams? I just joined this site, and noticed when I put my food in it asks for calories, and it asks how many Portions of each category it is.... but how do I know? Do so many grams of carbs make it a portion ? and so many grams of protein make it a protein portion? how do I figure this out? THanks for the help - Jennae

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (253 posts) at 06:00 PM:
Jeannae just use portion sizes, I have found that calorie counting can really hinder your progress maybe do this after a few challenges when you are more advanced. Use your fist to measure a size of carbs and your palm to measure your protein. Also don't forget your vegies!

GKK, the amount that you need depends on your lean body mass. A woman that weighs under 150lbs would only need two servings daily while you probably would benefit more from three. It is best to take right after your workout but I saw good results taking it an hour before and immediately after. Obviously EAS would like it if you too 10-20 servings a day :)

Thread: protien powder (170 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by fjcastro (3 posts) at 10:45 AM:
I've read that some whey protein right after a strength training session will help your body feast on something other than your muscle tissue. "When the body needs energy, it metabolizes glycogen, then fat, then protein. If one isn't fast enough, it goes down the list. But if it's going to feed on protein, you want it to go after something other than muscle tissue." - http://www.hussmanfitness.org/html/TLRagingMetab.html

Body for Life Forum Message by Young Guns (1574 posts) at 11:04 AM:
The body (muscles) need protien. The faster you can get the protien into your muscles the better. Whey protien (which is what most powders are made from) is the easiest absorbed protien source. Plus protien uses more energy to be burned than carbs or fats. It has a thermogenic effect which helps burn fat. Protien is the single most important macro-nutrient there is to anyone that's trying to lose fat or gain muscle.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (253 posts) at 04:57 PM:
The best thing you can take is a stack containing Asprin, Caffeine and Ephedrine. This is the only thing proven to give extreme results. Some people hesitate about the ephedrine but the ban is lifted and it is safe if taken right and if you are in good health. You may want to check with your Dr. first. Ephedrine is in almost all of the prescription meds to help in fat loss.

Thread: Potassium question... (54 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (253 posts) at 05:45 PM:
I wouldn't think that you would need a potassium supplement. If your concerned throw a banana a day in your regimine.

Body for Life Forum Message by DreamCatcher (702 posts) at 08:11 PM:
Are you taking a multi-vitamin already? If so, it should have potassium in it. The cottage cheese and yogurt also have potassium if you eat those two foods as well. If your staple foods contain potassium, as well as your vitamins/supplements, then you should be ok. If you are really concerned, think about having your doc run bloodwork on your iron, potassium and sugar levels to make sure you are getting enough of everything.

You should be fine. Only reccomendation is on thermo-d. Start with ONE pill before workout, and ONE pill before a meal. If you feel buring in your stomach, drink more water. Thermogenics are tricky things. You do need to give yourself time to adapt to them.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (253 posts) at 04:55 PM:
I agree, you can start all of these supps at the same time but you may feel a little different (stomach, sometime dizziness). Make sure you drink plenty of water with these.

Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (236 posts) at 05:37 PM:
Bill Phillips recommends in the book that someone doing this for the first time just use Myoplex the first time out. He says no other supplements are needed. He also wrote several articles about fat burners, saying that at best they might make a pound or two difference over the 12 weeks--and this was back when they were really fat burners, because they had ephedra in them! The ingredients in all the OTC fat burners are nearly the same, a stack of some type of aspirin precursor such as willow bar, a buttload of caffeine in various forms, and an appetite suppressor such as bitter orange or bitter melon, and to make all this look sexier they often use the latin root names for these herbs. Bitter orange for example is often listed as citrus aurentium. Do what you want, but it might be that you're taking a lot of stuff for which little results will be accomplished, other than the weight lost in the billfold.

Body for Life Forum Message by hb9252 (13 posts) at 06:37 PM:
I don't take lots of supplements, and what Bill Phillips said about fat burners making only a couple of pounds difference may be correct, but I have tried BFL with and without fat burners and I definitely do better WITH. ('Course I prefer the ephedrine ones from the good ol' days.) But I find that I need the appetite suppresant badly, and for ME, it makes a difference. I also like the energy kick it gives me. I notice a difference when I don't take them. I also prefer taking creatine, but some is better than others. I notice a huge difference in recovery time and strength when I use it. I've tried lots of other supplements too (I'd hate to think of all the money I've spent over the years), but these are the only two I think are well worth the effort and price. I adore Myoplex, and I use it - but it just doesn't seem like a "supplement" to me - it's a meal replacement...and a handy-dandy one at that! I love drinking something that's GREAT for me and feeling like I'm splurging! :)

I have a question for anyone who know... I'm debating adding Thermo DynamX to my daily routine but I don't know anything about it... I'm sure it is not like the other products that were on the market that didn't fair so well with the Food and Drug administration because they were killing people. Does anyone know of any safety issues concerning Thermo DynamX? The positive feedback i've heard about Thermo Dynamx sounds like it would be a great benefit to my daily workout and overall energy. Any input on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ed, Ephedrine was the drug that the FDA banned. The ban has actually been lifted and you can get it online now. As to say it killed people is up for debate, it was abused by many young people as a recreational drug to stay awake. I do not use ephendrine but it is one of the only herbs that is proven to drastically decrease your bodyfat. Make sure you don't have a heart condition before taking any of these fat burners and be sure to take them in the AM so you can sleep also drink plenty of water because they will dehydrate you. Good luck.

With those of you who have complained it is to thick and yadda yadda maybe this could help you guys out with enjoying it a little more. I have been doing this just to mix it up every now and then: Pour packet into a bowl. Add a little water at a time mixng it until it becomes the consistency of frosting. But wait before you dive in add some Hershey's cocoa ( I use the Special Dark) powder with some splenda to taste. Mix up and eat kinda like pudding. I am not kidding it should look like frosting. This way your Myoplex's get used and maybe you actually get to enjoy them. ;-) Hope this helps ;-) -T

Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (236 posts) at 05:27 PM:
The best bet is to just add 4 ice cubes and 6 more ounces of water than called for in the package. Mix the ice and water in a blender and then pour in the myoplex while the blender is running. No concrete in the corners, no cake batter consistency, and great flavor along with easy cleanup.

I've been booked for months and let me tell you, that itinerary hanging by my computer at work is more motivation then anything else could possibly give!! I can't WAIT to see what my body looks like in June, and I am so anxious to get on that cruise! tc - I'm going alone, and my roommate is too. We found each other through Jerry's website. If you can't find one that way, Cam can help too!! We have an inside cabin and the total cost is around $600. It's a little more then if you booked the cruise through Royal Caribbean, but that's because you get lots of "perks" with booking as a BFLer. I'm PSYCHED to get the chance to meet lots of awesome people! Think of all the motivation to be gained on this cruise.. talking to former champions, working out together, meeting lots of new friends. It's like creating a large network of people around you so that you keep BFL for life. It's going to be awesome! I'm convinced that 2006 is going to be a great year!!

Daaang Girl, lol @ the great famine of 2005! Poor little fishies. As far as hearty fish go, you are almost always going to lose fish in the beginning unless you "cycle" your tank without fish. This is also refered to as new tank syndrome. In a nutshell, you dont have enough beneficial bacteria in the tank to turn the ammonia into nitrites into nitrates. Ammonia and nitrites are very deadly to fish. The whole process takes about 6 weeks give or take a few weeks. If you want to read more on this, I suggest you read this article on my favorite fish BB. Its a lot of info. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I though these were humorous, I got them off of another website and I don't dislike Canadians. My Father is from Canada so don't get mad at me, they were just funny 1)What the heck was Canada doing during all the World Wars?? You could conquer them with an unsharpened pencil!! 2) If Canada likes hockey so much, then why does the U.S. have all the NHL teams?? And all the Canada teams SUCK. here are some of them: TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS- Isn't the plural of leave leaves? You stupid "Leafs" cheated, you know the Isles would of beaten you in the first round of the playoffs.... OTTAWA SENATORS- Quit booing Yashin already!! All of you ottawa losers are jelous because he's on the Islanders now, not your team MONTREAL CANADIANS- The name says it all 3) What's up with Canada schools!!! they have to go to school until grade 13th!! School for kids in Canada must SUCK!! 4) THE MONTREAL EXPOS- If you're gonna be a minor league team, play in the minors. 5) Seriously, How many jokes do you hear about Canada? that, in itself is proof to me. 6) They separate us from alaska, which is our own 7) They always get their coins stuck in our vending machines 8) We got our independence the proper way, through a bloody revolution, not by just having it handed to us. 9) Do you see pictures of British royalty on our money? 10) We have the majestic bald eagle. They have loons and geese. 11) We don't care anymore about the war of 1812. Besides, they were still a colony then. THEY weren't the ones that "kicked us out." 12) Our flag represents our country through symbolism. The Canadian flag, showing the maple leaf, only says "Watch out for us! We'll dry up and blow away!!!" How frightening indeed. 13) Our country is NOT half-ice. 14) We have four seasons : spring, summer, fall, and winter. Canada has two : Winter and July. 15) They delay the start of every professional game with "oh Canada" 16) They have two languages, they should choose one and stick with it 17)A Canadian team hasen't won the Stanley Cup since 1993. Didn't hockey originate in Canada?

I'm making a business trip to Dallas this week, and I know it's extreamly late notice, but unless plans change I have Thursday night free as everyone else on the trip was given a flight out of Dalls on Thursday, but I'm not leaving until Friday. So if there are any BFLers in Dallas that want to get together for a night of heavy water drinking, I'd enjoy meeting any of you. Just reply on here, or leave me a PM. I'll check in during the week. And I must state that this trip will in no way or form knock me off track. I had an absolutly fantastic BFL week last week, and I have packed a buncha RTD's and bars to eat on our many breaks during our meetings. I have also packed my workout clothes so I can workout each day. I just hope they won't mind 45 bathroom breaks each meeting.

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1115 posts) at 01:06 PM: Rules of Free Day ...
#1 - The first rule of Free Day is, you do not talk about Free Day. #2 - The second rule of Free Day is, you DO NOT talk about Free Day. #3 - If someone says stop, goes limp, taps out, the Free Day is OVER. #4 - Two meals at a time. #5 - One pint at a time. #6 - No forks, No Knives. #7 - Free Day will go on as long as it has to on that Day. #8 - If this is your first Day of Free Day, you have to EAT. OK so I stole this from fight club but thought I would come up with my own version for Monday most peoples post Free Day. Hope everyones week is off to a GREAT start. Now remember Rules 1 & 2 throughout the week LMAO.

Take a look at my profile and you'll see something shocking. Not the regular photos in challenge 2, actually they are improving. However, I have been using the side photo entry to post some different types of photos.

Lately I've been wondering who was posting on the tracker using my screen name when I was gone, so I installed a surveillance camera to try to figure that out.

Well, just check the side photo on week 2 and you'll see who the culprit is! You just never know who your friends really are, do you?

Body for Life Forum Message by Daaang Girl (58 posts) at 07:03 PM: I have a date!!!!
I have my first glimpse of a date for when my husband comes home from Iraq! He's supposed to leave there in mid-February. It will be the end of a whole year with him over there. And it's almost OVER!!Schweet!!! OK, in reality, I know not to count on the actual date. It's kinda like a due date when you're pregnant. The baby rarely comes ON your due date, but if that day comes and goes, it SUCKS! Oh well, it's the best I have to go on for now! At least they are more organized than when he left and came back two years ago. (To their credit, Aaron was one of the ones there when the things kicked off, nobody knew what to expect) But still, it was like... "OK, let's go! No, it will be next month. No wait, it won't be for another week. (the next day) OK we're leaving tonight." No kidding, that's how it happened. About the same for them returning. Bleh. This time is a LOT more organized (they've had a lot more practice shipping guys back and forth..lol) so maybe the return date will be more reliable. One can hope :)

Body for Life Forum Message by fitnesscrazedmom (26 posts) at 02:41 PM:
This is exactly hwo I learned boil eggs from grandma who never had one cracked egg while boiling them. she did this to cut down on (1) eggs goign from extreme cold to hot and (2) no bouncing around for 15 minutes into each other. And yes, they come otu perfect like this, just the right yolk. Uh oh, that's right, no yolks for us right now.

Body for Life Forum Message by chantal2bfit (14 posts) at 03:18 PM:
I do it per Hot Body's method also, but I got in from Rachel Ray. One thing I do differently is I drain the hot water, fill it again with cold water to cool, drain the water again once the eggs are cool enough to touch, then shake the pot with the eggs in them to crack the shell.

Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (998 posts) at 03:19 PM:
My hubby taught me a great way to make eggs. Put eggs in water Wait until they boil Once boiling, then turn down to lower boil and cover for 15 minutes. PERFECTO everytime. Danielle

Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (372 posts) at 03:51 PM:
Yes, you can definitely ruin hard boiled eggs. Well, I can anyway... Here's how you do it - Start to boil eggs in water like you normally do. Walk away. Get on computer. Waste time on Tracker. Hear BIG POP. Smell Burned eggs. Walk in kitchen. Clean up remnants of burned eggs from stove top and ceiling. The end. Or, better yet, try to remember you have something on the stove and keep enough water in the pan, because all the water will evaporate and the eggs will explode. Good times, baby...(i did this last week. Again.)

The longer I do this the more I feel the affects of bad food and the feel less of a need for a full cheat day. I think there is a transition in thinking towards free day as you do this. I say do whatever works for you, and you will adjust free day when and if you want to. Loved reading everyones posts on this. Linn

Sure there is! Just go to www.eatingforlife.com and there is nutritional information and calories on portion size information. Why isn't it in the book? Good question! G'day all! I am a newbie here and was wondering what you all eat each day. I have ordered my EFL book but it will probably take another week or so to get here. Just looking for some ideas. Thanks Bel

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2211 posts) at 06:54 PM:
Try this for starters: Sources of good carbs - sweet potatoes, slow cooking oats, brown rice, wild rice, beans/lentils, be careful with bread - only 100% whole wheat or 100% rye. Proteins - chicken or turkey breast, any fish including salmon, tuna, egg whites, low fat or FF cottage cheese. Good fat sources - olive oil, walnuts/almonds, all natural peanut butter, avocados, flax seed. As many green vegetables as you can stuff in your face - spinach, asparagus, broccoli, green beans. Carb & protein servings are the size of your fist, you can go more with the green veggies. Does this help?

Body for Life Forum Message by nurse36 (201 posts) at 03:54 PM:
With a new house, I have done lots of painting as well. I don't think I paint fast enough to get my heartrate up... so it's not really cardio. Although 150 million trips up and down the ladder ought to count for something, I would count it as an UBWO. My back, shoulders and arms are almost always sore the next day.

Body for Life Forum Message by nola (43 posts) at 04:09 PM:
My right leg seems to get a good workout from all the up and down, and my right arm/shoulder/back. So I guess I will be buff, but mostly on the right side! I do go kind of fast (I'm always in a hurry no matter what it seems) and find myself huffing and puffing after a while so I think I could just about count it as a cardio session, though I have not "substituted" just yet. Not much painting this week so far...baby has bronchitis and won't let me put him down....

Body for Life Forum Message by crazyblonde78 (255 posts) at 12:09 AM:
IMO...I would imagine that it is because of your diet...or lack there of. Ive always heard that if you just lift weights and eat whatever you want, its because your not necessarily burning enough fat that is over your muscle, therefore, they are appearing larger. I highly suggest doing the bfl eating plan. YOu will have SO much energy in just your first couple days. Today was my free day and god i cant wait to get back on track! UGH.... Good Luck and i hope this helps! xoxo karen

Body for Life Forum Message by Myintencity (33 posts) at 03:27 AM:
Hey Teresa, There is a lot of good information here. Allow me to offer some additional insight. Your neck and shoulders hurt because you're probably not using good form. Compound movements involve both primary and secondary focus.Deadlifts should be leveraged with the lower body(not the arms, shoulders and upper back)in order to more effectively isolate the target muscle group, ie hamstrings, glutes, core. And prevent injury to the neck, shoulders and back. "Visualization": adopt this as your bodybuilding mantra. With your minds' eye, see your butt, and legs doing the lions share of the lift from start to finish. Looking forward throughout the entire movement, particularly in the bent over position will assist you in maintaining good form as well.

Body for Life Forum Message by Myintencity (33 posts) at 03:34 AM:
Sorry about that. I meant to post this feedback for tcstone. My bad.

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1115 posts) at 04:18 AM:
I think once you tighten up your diet you might feel a leaner lower half. The only way to find that out is be consistent with your diet. If you are still feeling this way you should be able to see if your legs carry that cut look to them and it is from muscle mass. In which case you will have to look for a different brand of jean that fits your legs. Also, after working out your legs some people's legs tend to swell. I know mine do and it makes wearing jeans a little uncomfortable. I also carry my BF in my bottom half so it is always the last place to go. It was in the last few weeks of a BFL challenge they started to feel looser. Though my 1st advice is tighten up the diet for a couple of weeks (2-4) and then see what happens. Good luck!

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2211 posts) at 04:44 AM:
I've been complaining about the same issue lately. Seems to me that I've built up additional muscle mass in my quads, glutes, hamstrings but the fat has not budged and of course that means BIGGER. I'm having trouble even with my "fat" jeans. My diet hasn't been that bad nor has it been that good. By getting your diet spot on you should see a drop in fat therefor a decrease in size. You've only been at this a month? Give it more time; you'll see many more changes in the coming months if you keep at it and especially if you change up your diet. BTW, what exactly is your diet????? This is VERY important. How much cardio are you doing? Get a handle on your diet, until then you may be like myself - yes I'm working hard but that fat doesn't seem to be budging with what I'm eating.

Morpho_veja...I think the diet advice is dead on...for years I have worked out pretty hard, only to watch my butt and legs GROW because I was adding muscle but not losing any fat (I guess I was bulking before I even knew what that was). It was not until recently, after learning so much about BFL, that I realized I really, really had to start cleaning up my diet if I want to stop going beep, beep when I back up!!! Flower, where exactly IS this fat on you? You're awfully hard on yourself! Eileen

My legs are still wiped from the LBWO and the bike riding we did this weekend. I couldn't get my heart rate for my cardio this morning because I couldn't push hard enough with my legs. But this is actually great progress because any amount of cardio a few months ago would have left me feeling like I was gonna have a heart attack. I worked hard and I didn't feel my heartrate freak out like it used to. And what a great prescription for beating depression.

OK Prissy - glad you mentioned Buns of Steel - I think I have the whole series and I used to LOVE doing the step workouts. My question is this - those workouts are about 40 or 45 minutes as I recall. Do you just stop after 20 minutes? And what about the intensity levels? I would love to alternate a step workout with my treadmill workouts but have been reluctant to do this because of the above questions . . .

If you want a really killer ab aorkout try The Core workout (Ab Assault) with Gunnar Peterson. Holy Cow!! I got one from a friend. I thought "Oh, what the heck? It is probably too easy for me, but I'll give it a try." Owie!! Owie! Owie!! He uses lots of different angles to hit all the right spots! Now, I'm hooked on the stability ball!

Ok Serious question, I just finished my first LBWO of wk 2 and I physically and mentally couldnt do anyother rep. However like 15 minutes after my workout, my legs arent that sore just tired and I can already tell that tomorrow my 4miler will be like nothing really bad happened. Is this normal, am I lucky, or should I push even harder? I already feel like I am going all out. RSS

If you honestly couldn't get another rep, then you hit your tens. But you have to be perfectly honest about whether you could get one more. Don't sweat how you feel a bit later. Tom

I did my LWBO and hit my 10's. I thought I was fine afterwards, but I was sore this morning. Didn't help that I did my 20 minute HIIT today on the elliptical. By the way, great job! 4 miles tomorrow?! Wish I can run that long.

I remember my first LBWO last Jan. I thought I was all though and ready to conquer the world.... until two days later when not only could I not bear to go down a flight of stairs... but I couldn't step off a curb without looking like I needed a Boy Scout to help me!! Boy, my (now) hubby got a kick out of that! Just wait his turn is coming next!! Mwwwwhahahahahaha!!

If you don't have any equipment at home, that's ok, here's a great cardio workout I do all the time. Walk 1 min walk faster and faster then run, even if you can only run a few seconds, run, then walk, then do some jumping jacks, walk again, run again, jumping jacks if you have a outside bench,,( one that won't tip over, step up and down 10 times the walk and run and jumping jacks again you can make up things as you go, just keep moving and keep the HR up and down and up and down for at least 20 min and what ever you do, make it fun! Life takes over, work a few extra hours here, get stressed with the kids and house, work a few more hours there... Go to dinner since you are busy all the time, a snack from the machine here, there, there again ;) WHAM, you wake up and can't button your pants again. Wha??? But I just worked out wasn't it just last weee, OOOps. 40 lbs. Trust me, it's easy.

Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (24 posts) at 10:21 AM:
Not sure if you saw my earlier post but I wouldn't believe anything he says since the FTC indicted him for making false claims in 98: http://www.ftc.gov/os/1998/01/trudeau.cmp.htm There are many reputable resources out there for "natural cures" that don't encourage you to "buy the book, then the CD, etc".

Body for Life Forum Message by VegasGuy (94 posts) at 11:04 AM:
I believe that Kevin states that he won his suit with the FTC, but I have not as of yet seen any proof of that. I have the book, but have not yet read it (bought it on eBay). I have listened to the audio CD that came with the book, which is why I started this thread. I personally think that a lot of what he says makes total sense. BUT, I don't think it is to be taken too seriously as far as major illness is concerned. I look at it more as "Natural Preventitive Medicine" not "Natural Cures". And just to play devil's advocate...if what he says IS true, then it would make sense that the FTC WOULD try and shut him up. So I'll take some of his healthy, sensible advice and incorporate it into my program, and just leave out the more "fantastic" claims. Stay Strong, Chris

Body for Life Forum Message by Booloo (3 posts) at 12:31 PM:
I was involved with a company some years ago called Nutrition for Life that was promoted by Kevin Trudeau. All I can really say about it is that Mr. Trudeau made a lot of money from people like myself, from making claims and selling nutritional supplements that weren't proven to be any better than what you can pick up at the store. I can't say whether the claims he makes are true or not, but I am skeptical of his motives. There is good information out there, free information to help us lead healthier lives. I would like to point out that John Hussman has one of the most informative sites out there, and it doesn't cost you a penny to use it. I get the feeling that he is a man who's purpose is to help people lead healthier lives, not to make a million bucks making claims and selling books (or cd's, or nutitional supplements). It makes sense that if you put good things into your body then your body will respond in kind. If you put crap into your body, well, it makes sense that your body will suffer to some degree. Of course it makes sense that putting pesticides and processed foods into your body could negatively affect it. Being aware of that is a first big step into taking good care of your body. One last thought: for most of us, losing 30lbs in 30 days would be unhealthy, and would consist of losing muscle rather than body fat. I'm worried about KT's claim that one could (or should) try to lose that amount of weight in one month. Take care, and good luck!!! :)

I remember reading somewhere something to the effect of: If you do not celebrate your victories, all you will remember are your defeats. Trust me, the measured results you have shared is well above average. For the record a 2.76% weight loss is outstanding. This week is indeed yours to savor! You did awesome. Keep it up. Kudo's!

Body for Life Forum Message by Sue (6 posts) at 04:29 PM:
I hear ya! I'm a night owl myself. I want to/try to and intend to wake up early but that's not going to happen until i really commit to doing it. Going to bed early is key and that's my problem... night is MY TIME! The thing I've recently come to realize is that no matter what time I get up, making the right choices and being realistic about what I can and cannot do is more important than trying to do it all. Waiting 4 hours to eat after you get up (no matter what time that is) is not good. If that means you're doing cardio later in the day, so be it. Better than not working out at all, and much better than waiting 4 hours to rev-up your motabolism. What works for you, may not work for others, and what's right for others make not fit you.... keep it simple and make smart decisions (and learn from the bad ones)

Body for Life Forum Message by akladydi (2 posts) at 07:59 PM:
I have a lot of similarity in my schedule. I own my own business and I don't work until 2:00 in the afternoon. So I too do not have to get up until I really want to. Well I can say that the later I get up the later I eat my first meal. Same as you. I had my workout scheduled for 8:00 this morning but I did not get out of bed until 9:00 and didn't start working out until 9:20. Done at 10:20 and eating my first meal by 11:30. So I am on a pretty similar schedule. I am just getting done eating my mid meal around 4:00 so I won't be eating my dinner meal until around 8:00. This does work for me though because I work until 8:00 at night. I am going to try and get up earlier on the days when I need to lift weights. On the 20 minute days I snow shoe and can't do that until it gets light at around 10:00 right now. Just keep going and don't give up. Remeber this is for life so whatever works.

VegasGuy - I grew up the same. I have always cleaned my plate too - no matter the size. As well, if the food is "good food" I'll do the same with other members of my family. I've seen people leave just "one bite" - what is up with that? Of course I have to grap it and eat it. In some ways I'm teaching my own kids the same telling them why buy the food, prepare it, then throw it away? I doubt very much I'll outgrow this entirely.

I love ya ma, and the cheesecake was great, but I'm going to take that second slice with me for tomorrow. Hey Ann, it's funny that you mention the fact that some people leave that one bite on their plate. I remember reading somewhere a few years a go, that that was a good way to lose weight. If you normally clean your plate, they said to leave a few bites of everything on you plate at each meal. Over the course of the day it would add up to several hundred calories, and over the course of a month (or a few) it would actually make a big difference. Makes sense huh? Although, I'VE never been able to do it. LOL.

Yeah I just watched a discovery channel special on aspertame. It seems that your body turns it into FORMALDEHYDE after its consumed! They didnt know exactly how much it took to be toxic, but they stressed moderation.

Body for Life Forum Message by Runningsouthernstyle (31 posts) at 05:04 AM:
The sweetener in that gives me a horrible headache, maybe if I mix it with vodka like Nikki says HMMMMMMMM

Body for Life Forum Message by hb9252 (13 posts) at 06:00 AM:
I like Crystal Lite, but watered down a lot. My favorite is Dasani Raspberry though...and it has zero calories and uses splenda instead of aspartame. Mmmmmm! Never thought about adding vodka! Hmmmm....... ;)

Are these those little pouches made especially for bottles of water? I buy the off brand at wally world of peach tea and green tea and drink it with dinner only. Love them!!

Body for Life Forum Message by Tomcat1066 (97 posts) at 08:02 AM:
I've got those Crystal Ligh On The Go here at the office. I use it mostly to mask the flavor of the water from the water fountain. If I had to drink that stuff straight, then I'd NEVER drink water. Mostly, I'm trying to ween myself off of it though. Tom

Body for Life Forum Message by crone (549 posts) at 08:05 AM:
LittleBig I use half the pouch for my bottle water. Start with half the pouch and see if it's too sweet and then go from there.

Body for Life Forum Message by MelJ113074 (5 posts) at 09:27 AM:
Oh I feel so much better. I drink the 4C green tea's that are meant for the water bottles. The one I drink has splenda also, but I just foud out it has about 16 mg of caffine in it also. I don't know what to do because I normally don't drink ANYTHING at all and I HATE water. Right now I'm trying to split it up and do 6 cups water and 6 cups of plain water. I'll let you know how it goes. Melissa

Body for Life Forum Message by crone (549 posts) at 09:40 AM:
Mel, since it has caffine in it you need extra water.

Body for Life Forum Message by VegasGuy (94 posts) at 11:18 AM:
Nikki, LOL...I thought I was the only one who mixed my Crystal Light (Lemonade) with Vodka (but only on free days too)! I also agree that it's better to limit the intake of things with artificial sweetners. The less chemicals we put in our body the better. I've found that having a large container of sliced lemons (or limes) at hand helps me drink more water. It sure makes it taste better, and also gives the illusion that I'm drinking something OTHER that water. Helps mentally. You can also try filling an iced tea (sun tea) jar with water and adding some sliced apples. Let it sit for about 24 hours and you'll have a great tasting "apple esscence" water. Still pretty much calorie free too. Stay Strong, Chris

Body for Life Forum Message by VegasGuy (94 posts) at 11:20 AM:
BTW, you should let the apple water sit for 24 hours IN THE FRIDGE. Forgot to mention that.

Thread: Some of the things that make BFL easier! (48 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by hb9252 (13 posts) at 05:57 AM: Some of the things that make BFL easier!

Just finished my cardio and took my supplements and feel great!  (MetaCel and LS7 for me, and of course Myoplex shake and a multi-vitamin - that's it.)

I was just thinking (as I was listening to "MOVE, BITCH!" in my headphones and pumping away on my Health Rider) about all of the great things that make BFL enjoyable:

Dasani Raspberry (I have a 6 a day habit forming)
Stash Double Spice Chai Tea & Splenda
My beloved MP3 player, chock full of kick-a$$ music
Diet Dr. Pecker
Myoplex (all that nutrition, so easy to get to!)
Having workout equipment in the basement!!!!!!
My fan on high
MTV & VH1
My cell phone w/ a timer on it
George Foreman Grill
My blender at work
Kids who sleep late

That's it for now.  Those are the things I'm thankful for today! :)

Thread: mybodycomp.com (122 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by BecomingMe (121 posts) at 06:50 AM: mybodycomp.com
I finally realized that mybodycomp.com changed urls! I know everyone here has given feedback that this site gives you a higher than average BF%, but I like it for keeping track of my progress, and stats, and comparing them. Anyway, if anyone else has been missing mybodycomp.com, try fittogether.net....your old login & password and old tracking stats are all there.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (174 posts) at 07:01 AM:
I just got an email from fittogether.net today saying I hadn't measured my body composition in a while. Otherwise I wouldn't have known.... nice of them to tell us!

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2211 posts) at 08:20 AM:
Are you guys sure this site is giving you a HIGHER than average reading????? This can't be!!!! I just got a particularly low reading; all measurements were done accurately. My weight is up but I believe I've put on some muscle; there's no way I'm this low!!!!! I think I'm going to go back and redo and GULP, big step for me - I think I'm going to finally break down & buy some kind of calipers. Tomorrow is my one year BFL (or whatever, ha, ha) anniversary and perhaps I'm deserving of a little "anniversary" present. You all just sit back and watch a psycho in action if I get another "measuring tool"; as if a scale isn't enough to send me to the loony bin!

Body for Life Forum Message by BecomingMe (121 posts) at 11:34 AM:
I always used their stats, but when I was actively posting on tracker, the feedback I got was that it tended to be higher than average, compared to the navy site, and others. Personally, for me, everything was pretty close... I got the email this AM too, that's the only reason I knew as well.

Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (535 posts) at 11:35 AM:
Ugh - I got that email too. For a moment, I thought, "Who in the world am I whoring my email address out to now?!?"

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (174 posts) at 11:50 AM:
Tracey, it depends.... I think for people who have more to lose (like me) it's higher than average -- and it is showing about 1-2% higher than my Accumeasure calipers -- and for those who have less fat, it's lower than average. I wonder when it's ever right on!

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2211 posts) at 12:00 PM:
So I went back to the site and did it again - this time considerably higher! Yikes!! As far as I can tell I did it accurately but I can't go in anywhere and see where the discrepancy was with my measurements.

Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (355 posts) at 12:20 PM:
On mybodycomp.com (or fittogether.net)make sure you are taking your hip measurements at the hip bone (not your widest measurement)... look for a "groove" in your hips (it dips in)... the measurement should be taken in that groove. See if that helps.

Body for Life Forum Message by Ann (371 posts) at 08:48 PM:
Really, gbfan? I've never heard that 'dip in part' advice before for measuring hips. I always do the biggest part I can find. The part where my hip bones stick out on the sides. I'll try the dip in part now because I also think this site is a bit higher than other sources. It reads me at 23.7% When others see my pics they usually mention that it seems a bit high. Not sure really. At least it's consistent.

I was wondering how many of you would be interested in sharing your mailing address and also sending out a letter of encouragement to other BFLers? No structure on this, just mail a letter whenever you have time. Write something encouraging, send them a good article, or share success tips that work for you. Whatever works! Think about it--how many of us have had 'those' kinds of days where it was so tough to stick to the program? Wouldn't a quick hello from another BFLer made a world of difference for you on those tough days? PM if you are interested with your mailing address and home email address. I'll put together a file and send out the addresses to everyone interested. Danielle

Hey Team 8, Carla (crone) sent us out a spreadsheet to keep track of the teams numbers and goals for the 4 weeks. I have filled in our starting info and the info that I have received for week 1. I have also saved this in a format for the internet. Are you ready for me to make this page public and share the address with you? Or would you like me to make your personal info private? I will be turning in our team numbers to Carla late today, at that time I will make it public and share the url for all to see. If I do not hear from you and you are online sometime today, I will assume that you ar okay with the info being made public. More motivation I always say! So if you haven't gotten me your numbers, get those numbers in! Steve

Body for Life Forum Message by GetNFit (781 posts) at 10:43 AMBody For Life & Boyfriends Just Dont Mix!!! is not ''>: Body For Life & Boyfriends Just Dont Mix!!!
Well gang, I have tried everything in my power to get my boyfriend to do BFL with me and he just isnt going to budge! :-(

I am very proud of him because he has stopped drinking sodas and all sugary drinks! All he drinks is water with extra lime!!!!!! Yeah for Jim!!!! (It's so cute too, everytime we go to lunch or dinner & the waitress asks for our drink order he sais, "Robin & I will both have water with extra lime!" I love it!!!!! It makes my heart smile when he does that!!!!!!) He thanked me again last night, as we were at dinner, for being such a positive influence to him in concern with his health. He is now tackling portion control for the next 3 months. He stated once those 90 days are up he will then consider going to the gym. However, it will not be with me. It will be with our Pastor at the Police Station gym. (Our Pastor is the Police station chaplin & works out with the cops everyday.)

Im a bit bummed because of that, I would love for him to go with me, but, Im not going to whine about it. Im just going to be thankful he's going.

Okay....now that Jim is taken care of, I have to get back to ME!!!! Ive allowed myself to slip back into some very ugly habits! It's time to get back into the groove.

I am making a committment to my Tracker buddies & teammates that starting tomorrow morning I will get up each morning & go to the gym. I will eat healthy & regain control of my healthy lifestyle!!!!

I need your support now more than ever because you guys make this bearable & believable!!!!!! You give me hope!!!

Thanks for all you do out here guys! It doesn't go unnoticed!!!!

Keep Pump'n

Robin

Body for Life Forum Message by TJ (605 posts) at 10:55 AM:
Robin, motivation to complete a BFL challenge must come from inside. Convincing someone to ‘try’ it will normally lead to failure. As someone smarter than me once said, “A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still.” But you are on the right track by supporting each ‘baby step’ he is taking towards improving his health. By the sound of it, sooner or later he will join you in the entire program. Till then, continue to be his biggest cheerleader and he will continue to take those ‘baby steps’. Your commitments sound excellent. Please keep us up-to-date on how you are progressing. We’re all in your corner!

Body for Life Forum Message by havlow (203 posts) at 11:07 AM:
Robin, Glad to hear that your boyfriend is adopting a healthier lifestyle. I too took the babysteps into body for life starting in July by cutting out sodas and fast food and entered the BFL program in mid October and I think it helped tremendously. As a guy we have to do it the hard headed way some times and maybe he feels more at as working out with the guys and the girls...or maybe he's worried he'll be concentrating too much on watching you at the gym instead of doing his workouts ;) Seriously though it's great that he's taking things to heart healthwise!! Glad to see you back online again and look forward to seeing how your challenge goes!! Jeremy

Body for Life Forum Message by GetNFit (781 posts) at 11:49 AM:
Thanks for your support guys!!

It's funny Jeremy, because he has mentioned concentrating on me rather than concentrating on working out! LOL But, to be honest, I think his is a little intimidated by the gym. But, Im not going to push the issue.

Im going to keep doing what Im doing, as TJ said, "supporting each ‘baby step’ he is taking towards improving his health".

He called me a few minutes ago and I told him I was recommitting myself to morning workouts. He was thrilled and said he would support me in every possible way he could. .....which means making us depart each other's company at a reasonable hour, 10pm! ;->

Thanks!!!

Okay folks I finally got them up. I cheated just a bit because I took a new set this morning after working out (okay Day 85...sue me!!) and I'm glad I did because the original set were WAYYYY to dark. Please ignore the hideous bruises on my chest and biceps as I slipped on the stairs last week something awful carrying some groceries. Someone asked me if I was happy with my results and I say to you guys what I said to them: ABSOLUTELY!! I'm not toned and my body fat isn't where I want it to be but that's okay because this is a lifestyle not a fad diet and I've already written not only my Challenge 2 goals (started day 1 today) but have my challenge 3 goals written out as well. How's that for planning ahead? I'm glad to be a part of this group folks and again I couldn't have gotten here without the support of each and everyone of you!! Thanks again, Jeremy

I've called every fitness store, several fitness centres and they don't have them and have no idea where to buy them! Its like going into a grocery store and they don't have milk & eggs and don't know where you can buy milk & eggs. Shocking!!!

Hey Flower I was just at my local Health Store that sells supplements and vitamins (R Downs) and they have them there...they are only like $12 or something...maybe try calling those kinds of stores. Also, that is what I use and for me it is accurate BECAUSE it gives me my starting number and any change will be an accurate reflection in BF % lost (or God forbid gained) because I will be using the same method to track..You test at the superilliac crest, tricep and quad...once you get the calipers there is a booklet inside telling you where and how to test...really easy! Good luck

I do have Accu-measure calipers and find that they run pretty close to mybodycomp.com... so I generally don't use them. If you are very low in bodyfat %, the Accu-measure that I have only goes to like 15% or something. (Can't remember off the top of my head). You can find them on eBay... I got mine for less than $10 with shipping.

I have compared my Accu-Measure with the Navy calculations and they are always pretty close in range.

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2211 posts) at 01:43 PM:
There is no booklet inside and its a one site measure only on the abdomen. Is this a rip-off or something? I can't see one site giving you an accurate measure. Can anyone tell me if there is a site to go to get say a 3 site measure with this contraption. BTW - not too happy with this reading; I'm getting about 20%. Well it will give me something to work on thats for sure!

Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (24 posts) at 01:54 PM:
I ordered accu-measure too...they don't have good instructions with the product. These are more extensive (and you'll get a better reading; once I did it right my BFP was like 5% lower) although they still have you testing only on your hip: http://www.accumeasurefitness.com/products/am3k_ideal.pdf

Body for Life Forum Message by tonee (162 posts) at 01:59 PM: Re: Help - Accu-measure???????

Flower if you go to this site, it uses 7 site and 3 site measurements. It also shows you where to measure as well.

Okay then that is 17.35%. AND I STILL DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS!!!!! LOL see I told you I'd go psycho. Tune in tomorrow for another round......then another round when PMS is gone, eeeewwwwww lots of fun!

Body for Life Forum Message by Mellie (643 posts) at 11:49 AM: So I bought the itty-bitty bikini....
Now I have to kick some major butt in Challenge 2 to get it to fit!  I figure new challenge, new suit!  I bought it small on purpose so that I would have a visible goal, not just a bf% or weight goal...I put up my beginning C2 pics on my profile, but PLEASE bear in mind that I was sick and didn't work out or eat right for over a week and I look bloated and yucky and had put on 5 lbs.

I am ready to kick it into high gear!  This one's for Julie! God Bless You Julie!

PS The 5 lbs was gone when I weighed in at the end of week one on Sunday!  Thank God!

Thread: Sprained Ankle Advice (91 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (372 posts) at 04:13 PM: Sprained Ankle Advice
I need some advice here. What do you all do with sprained ankles? My ankle is still kind of swollen and really sore from last week. It only bruised a little bit, and didn't swell up too much, but it still hurts to walk. (I went snowboarding last Wednesday for the first time...and managed to really mess my ankle! All for the sake of impressing the cute boy who offered to teach me. Yeah, I'm sure that faceplant off the lift was really impressive, huh?!?) I haven't worked out on it since Wednesday but I have to today - I am going crazy! I already have waited a few days to let it heal up, but my dad says sprains are worse than broken bones, because they take a long time to heal. So do you all just work through the pain? Any Alternate exercises? I was thinking about doing the stationary bike, but I get a much better workout running. Any advice? Comments, questions, snide remarks...all are appreciated!

Body for Life Forum Message by NormRebs (265 posts) at 05:01 PM:
Do not run until it is completely healed or it will never get better! Your going to have to use a stationary bike until it does! Beleive me I know!!! You can still workout as long as you don't use your ankles. Give it some time, you'll be glad you did!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (501 posts) at 05:03 PM:
You have to accept the fact that your ankle needs to heal. You can't do anything until then. Sprains do take longer to heal...listen to your body.

Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (236 posts) at 05:24 PM:
Rest
Ice
Compression
elevation
Still the best advice there is for a sprain, and add to that NSAID (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as aspirin or Advil. If you choose to use it in a significant pounding way such as running you will risk further damage or a serious fall. If you do biking you will no doubt slow the healing as well but are much less likely to do further injury to it. If you do choose to do some activity with it, most decent sporting goods stores sell immbolizers or soft supports for ankles that will help you. Keep ice on it whenever you can.

Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (372 posts) at 06:17 PM:
Well, I've been employing the RICE method since Wednesday night, and downimg the advil like candy, so...I may be outta luck, huh? Thanks for the advice, you all are right, I know. Patience is NOT one of my virtues... I just hate not working out, it absolutely drives me crazy, puts me in a bad mood and makes me fat! Especially while I am trying to do another challenge! I ended my lasy one with a lot of momentum, and I'd like to keep it up. This drives me crazy. Any other ideas?

Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (2932 posts) at 06:20 PM:
Yep, RICE ! Rest, Ice, Compression and elevation, after 72 hrs apply heat, sit in a warm or hot bath or hot tub Ride the bike or do the ellipitcall for cardio hope you feel better, Linda

Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (372 posts) at 06:22 PM:
Wait, so...since I sprained it last Wednesday (5 days ago) should I ICE it or HEAT it now?

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (253 posts) at 06:24 PM:
Before doing cardio heat and passive strecthing may help. Post exercise RICE is a must. Swimming may be a great way to get some really good cardio without the impact. When I work for the Panthers/Steelers We would have athletes with injure lower extremities use bikes or swim.

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (703 posts) at 06:50 PM:
I am not sure about the heat.....i thought sprains use cold compressions, especially for swelling....which is why it is still hurting..... Linda will have to get back with us on that one.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (253 posts) at 07:01 PM:
TC it depends on how much time has passed since trauma. Ice constricts blood vessels which is great post workout to prevent swelling. Heat is Good to get blood flow prior. I swelling and not the actual damage is causing pain then Rice needs to be used. Meaning no workouts until the swelling goes down. Hope this answers your concern.

Body for Life Forum Message by stepor (44 posts) at 07:41 PM:
But, please remember to take the R in rice seriously. I sprained my ankle and did not let it heal, a few weeks later I was walking on grass and stepped in a small hole... I had to crawl back, Doc wanted to do surgery after that it was so messed up.

Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (372 posts) at 08:28 PM:
man, y'all are scaring me now...jk :) so i can should stretch and use heat to get blood flow, RICE it after...is that the general consensus? It isn't a severe sprain, thank goodness, but I just need to get it better as soon as I can...

Body for Life Forum Message by daisy23 (54 posts) at 11:32 PM:
Hey Sweet Ash :) I have sprained my ankle a number of times running and I know your pain, physically and emotionally. I tried to run through the pain and it was miserable. I know you don't want to hear it but you just have to take time off from running. Honestly, for me the elliptical hurt my ankle worse than running so I wouldn't recommend trying it. I would definately keep up the UB workouts, abs and leg workouts that don't require a lot of pressure on your ankles. I.E Hamstring curls, abductors, aductors (inner and outer thighs) and possibly leg extensions. I actually twisted my ankle last week in a new pair of boots and couldn't run for about 5 days (it wasn't a serious sprain) but definately frustrating. I can relate to the snowboarding injuries. I picked up "riding" last winter when I worked at a ski resort. The morning after my first lesson I felt like I had been in a serious car wreck I hurt so bad. :) Anyway, as far as your ankle goes...I stretched mine by rotating it in circles, icing it and SLOWLY getting back into cardio. If and when you do run, take a slow jog, increase speed and or distance as you feel ready and definately STOP if you feel discomfort. Try to not discouraged...you can still do weight exercises, eat clean and continue to get results until you are able to run! Hope you recover quickly! Natalie

Body for Life Forum Message by DreamCatcher (702 posts) at 07:10 PM: Anyone Else Having This Problem?
Every afternoon, about an hour or two after lunch I am dead tired to the point of falling asleep while working! This has been going on for several weeks. It would be one thing if I was bored at work, but I'm not, I have plenty to do! I am taking my multi-vitamins like a good little girl, but they don't seem to do the trick. I am wondering if my sugar level takes a nosedive or something. I'm not diabetic, so I have no idea. My blood sugar levels were really low when I was tested about 4 months ago, but nothing alarming according to the doc. Anyone else go through this?

Body for Life Forum Message by justdoit (258 posts) at 07:26 PM:
I usually keep supplements around for those times. I don't know why it happens, but when I work at the computer or have to do paperwork I get tired. If it keeps up, please see your doctor. Good Luck

I wonder if it is the winter doldrums - or seasonal affectiveness disorder. Try to get out at lunch for some daylight, and try an incandescent light on your desk. I'm just thinking more light might help. Certainly you are feeding your body the right foods every 2-3 hours so it shouldn't be that you are hitting that kind of slump.

Body for Life Forum Message by DreamCatcher (702 posts) at 07:38 PM:
My entire job is on the computer..and I've been at it for 9 years...it's just the last month or two. I do have a doctor appointment later this week, so I may mention it. Maybe I need a different kind of supplement? I'm just taking Centrum. I'm not very versed on supplements so maybe I'm missing something and don't realize it. Thanks!

I am just wondering (this is even sounding stupid as I type it out) if anyone thinks it would be bad if I did my HIIT the night BEFORE I should be doing it. I work early Thursday mornings and am wondering if I do my UBWO in the morning, would it do any damage to do my HIIT in the afternoon and get it overwith instead of possible missing it all together?..ok sounding more stupid by the second..... any thoughts? Discovery Health is offering a free 8 week membership to any Bally's in the country (provided you do the tour so they can convince you to join, I guess.) Their website has some pretty cool tools.

You can check it out next weekend -- see if there's a mall nearby you. I might go myself to the one in Bethesda, MD. Any Trackers want to meet up there? There are six mall kick-off celebration events on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15, located in Brea Mall, Brea, Calif.; North Point Mall, Alpharetta, Ga.; Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, Ill.; Westfield Montgomery, Bethesda, Md.; Roosevelt Field, Garden City, N.Y.; and Willowbrook Mall, Houston, Texas.

Thread: I think I just gave away $20. Cripes. (87 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Nicabod (63 posts) at 08:23 PM: I think I just gave away $20. Cripes.
My school is doing a "biggest loser" challenge for 2 months. It is $20 to participate, and it is divided into male and female divisions. Winner take all. Anyway, the school's rat fink scale weighed me at 158.8 (which is 6 pounds higher than my scale, which MUST be the right one), and most of the other participants are 200-ish (the lowest weight I sneaked a peek at was 174). The results are strictly percentage of body weight lost--no measurements, no body fat analysis. So my question to you is did I just give away my money? I'm POSITIVE that I will have the best transformation in 8 weeks, but I'm not sure it's possible for me to lose the highest percentage of my body weight. What do you think?

Body for Life Forum Message by tonee (162 posts) at 09:01 PM:
I think you just gave a way $20.

But on a postive note, it may give the other contestants who have more to lose an incentive to really give it their all. Who knows everyone else may not take it as seriously as you. And when the challenge is over and you look fabulous, won't it be great to tell everyone( who is bound to come to you) about how BFL changes the mind and body. So who knows how this thing will turn out, you could be really surprised at the end. I still say give it best.

Tonya

But I was meant to get this calendar because I am using it to count down the days of my 12 week challenge. Also, it is so big that there is plenty of room for me to right notes on each day... which I plan to do before I go to sleep. My challenge is up on April 1st. We can do it!!!! I hope that by me competing this challenge it inspires my family to get healthy. That is one thing that is motivating me. Good luck guys!!!!

Is there such a thing as a food hangover? On my free day I had girl scout cookies (8) with milk, dove chocolate squares, buttered popcorn, and three slices of pizza. I woke up the next morning literally feeling hungover like I drank way too much instead of eating crappy. I had to take motrin and everything, it took me until noon to finally be hungry and not sick to my stomach to finally eat something. Anybody else ever feel this way? It makes me not want another free day.

I really wanted to have a big pig out on free day but it didn't work out that way. We had lunch at SIL's and there was little food to be had and many people, but I did have some birthday cake. Then later I had some oreos at home but they didn't excite me like they used to. Oh wait...then there was some ice cream before bed...maybe I did have that pig out day after all.... I do know that I had a BAD headache around 9:00 p.m. So no one commented the "bowel content weight" in michiganmike's post?!?! I have to remember that...I've really never considered that all the junk was "still there" but it does make sense. If anyone ever tells me I look fat, I'm gonna tell them it's just bowel content (or maybe that they are full of bowel content). Ok, maybe enough about the bowels...

Repeat after me- Scale BAD. :) As pointed out, your scale weight changes day to day, hour to hour. That's why scale weight should never be the be all and end all. Weigh at the beginning of Free Day. Never the end. The salt intake from free day alone will cause you to add 3 pounds. :)

Body for Life Forum Message by Tomcat1066 (97 posts) at 08:18 AM:
A half pound increase could just be water retention or even muscle gain. Don't sweat to much after one week, just use it as a yardstick, not as the be-all. You may also want to weigh the same time each week. I weighed on Sunday morning before putting anything in my body because my freeday is Sunday and it will give me a bit of a more accurate gauge. Still try to avoid putting to much stock in the numbers on the scale. They lie!!!!!! Tom

Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (2404 posts) at 08:23 AM:
Sheesh weighing myself after free day usually shows a 3-4 lb increase lol That always disappears later though. Just remember, on free day you eat more, and a lot of it will still be inside you for a day - never weigh yourself the day after free day, but if you have to, just keep that in mind. Not to sound gross - but a few trips to the bathroom in the following few days gets everything back on track.

I am a complete alien to the workout world! I have the book but it seems so vague as to what I am supposed to do on my muscle toning days... Hello Scattergold! I started my first challenge Jan 2 knowing NOTHING about weights. Zilch. I joined a local gym on a month by month basis just so I could watch the "real" weightlifters. In only a week I have learned so much just from watching them. Also there is staff available if I have questions. There are great demo videos and animations on the bfl website. All I can tell you is that every weight day at the gym I screw up my courage, leave my pride at the door, and know that I will learn something very valuable. Good luck!

Hey Scattergold. I agree, the BFL website has some great animations on how to do the exercises. Just be careful and don't get hurt. Start out low until you find what weight you can do on each exercise. After a couple of sessions you will be well on your way. Craig

Does anyone else feel like they became huge overnight? How did I get so big and not see it? I can't believe that I have put it out there for all to see. My challenge started last Saturday and will finish on the 1st of April. I am not weighing myself during this challenge at all. The scales are evil and I don't want to get upset if they are not budging (even thought the inches are going down). I have fallen into that trap before. My goal for this challenge is to get down to a small size 16 or a large size 14 (Australian sizes). I just need to keep telling myself that I can do this!

Anyways, during my first challenge, I didn't weigh myself either until the very end, and not even before I started my challenge. I just went by how my clothes fit. It was like you wake up ond day and all of a sudden, your pants are falling off. It's one of the greatest feeling! Good luck on your challenge! When do most of you guys weigh yourself to measure the weight loss for the previous week? I would naturally assume Monday morning since you're starting a new week, but I've heard it's a bad idea to weigh right after your free day. I weighed today and saw that I had lost 2 pounds. That didn't seem like very much until my wife told me that equates to 7000 calories! One step at a time.

I feel that the same time of day (first thing in the morning) on the same day of the week, will give you a more accurate picture of your gains and/or losses. But that's just me ;) Tom

Ok well it's my browser that logs me off not tracker. I get logged off all the time when I use my yahoo browser. I NEVER get logged off when I use explorer. Try using a different browser or update yours. It may help! Shelly =)
