Read everyones posts. Nobody is seeing any significant resulsts from CLA.
I've been on it for 3 weeks with no change other than what I've accomplished on BFL in the past, which is 1 or 2 pounds lost per week.
If you've read about a suppliment in a fitness magazine don't take that as fact. All those mags are nothing but fancy advertisement for suppliments.
Take a multi vitamin and be done with it.
We all know there is no magic pill. Because after wasted time and effort it all brought us to BFL.
HARD WORK, STRICT DIET, and MENTAL TOUGHNESS/GOOD ATTITUDE.
Body for Life Forum Message by Scott (8 posts) at 10:33 AM
CLA is a load of junk. It does nothing for you. Research it sometime. It's one of those suppliments when combined with exercise and diet will help in reducing body fat. Yea right. Don't believe the hype.
I've been on it for 3 weeks and haven't see any results other than the ones I would have gained by following BFL. (ie. 1 or 2 pounds lost per week)
Save your money ! I'm returning mine for a refund.

Hi
I am finishing week 8 tommorrow and i have been taking betagen since week 2. Its great, i love it, it truely works wonders.
This week my muscle armour finally arrived so i called eas.
1 scoop of muscle armour 30 mins b4 work out, 2 scoops of betagen after your workout, have another 2 scoops of betagen when ever you wish during the day.
The above means i have decreased my servings from 3 to 2 with betagen and added 1 serving of MA.
Now the above applies for weight training and cardio days according to eas.
I also incorporate 5g of l-glutamine after my workout and another 5g b4 going to bed and eas says thats a good way to incorporate that.
Now if MA works or not i am not sure, only time will tell, i did find it abit too much though, in ur stomach am, also it has 120 calories.
Hope i have helped
Pan

Pan, Thanks for your input. I guess I should call EAS about this, as I'm a girl....your dosage sounds too high for me.
But, I will certainly check into it! Thank you for your comments.

Pan since it has 120 calories if you are taking a myoplex or mealreplacement maybe you should take a lite on or use that as your carbs for a meal. Just a thought!

I ran 2.5 miles in 20 minutes this morning. I went up to a 9.5 on the treadmill (I used to think I could only do 8 - NO HIGHER) for my 10 at 1% incline. And the AMAZING thing is...it all seemed like a breeze...even though I tried the same workout two days ago and had to stop halfway through (I know, that's awful).
Does anyone else have days like this?? I had to keep checking to make sure I had all the settings correct, because it seemed WAY too easy. I can only think of three things it might be:
1) Pure serendipity.
2) I started glutamine yesterday for the first time...has anyone else tried this? If this is where my energy turns out to have come from, I HIGHLY recommend it!!
3) I went back to an old favorite on my ipod - Nickelback's "Silver Side Up" - fabulous treadmill music.
The whole time I was thinking "I gotta ask people on Tracker if I'm the only one this happens to!!!

My wife will read it maybe once every couple of weeks, but she doesn't seem to be too interested in it. She did shed a tear or two reading the entry I wrote about the birth of our son.
Other than that I've given the address to a few friends and showed one co-worker and no one ever posts on there so I figure they weren't too interested.
I've also showed family memebers and my brother is the first person to actually read the whole thing and post a comment. That was nice of him. He told me he really liked it.
I did have a guy that comes in to work monthly for this series called LeaderEase read it also. He Googled his own name and came upon my blog. When he told me he read my blog I was kind of embarrassed, but nothing on there is really too bad I guess.

How is your son today? I am so sorry you missed your workout yesterday, but you did a great job taking care of your son.
Did he have the flu? If so you may want to try the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast). It is suppose to be good when they can't hold anything down.

BRONCOS vs STEELERS
Plans and goals for the weekend…..
Well let’s start with Saturday…. I am going to get up and head off to the gym for a heavy Bicep and Back workout with a 30 minute interval run on the treadmill. I am going to pick up my son and spend the afternoon with him. I have had to work late each day this week and have not gotten to spend any time with him. I think he enjoys our time together, plus he gets a break from his mother and stepfather… We have a great time together… Then Lori and I are going to go out for a nice healthy dinner and then meet some friends for a little birthday party. Then I hope to do a little more cardio before sleep time…. If you know what I mean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next is SUNDAY – BIG GAME DAY!!!!!!!!!!!! BRONCOS vs STEELERS - Okay I first have to get up and go to the gym for Legs and Cardio…. Then I am going to pick up my son for the game which I believe starts at 3 our time… Then I have to be honest, a game has to have nachos and beer!!! I might try to get two different cardio workouts….. Then I hope to spend the rest of my evening watching desperate housewives with my sweetheart!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope you have a great weekend - and great WORKOUTS!!!!!!!!!
Casey

I hope you have a great weekend. But for Clevelanders, this is the game from hell. We definitely don't want the Steelers to win and we really don't want the Broncos to win. (We still see the drive in our heads.) So who do we root for.
Body for Life Forum Message by Megan'sMom (257 posts) at 09:27 AM
I'm with you Casey.
I'm sitting here in my Bronco shirt as I type.
Sunday morning I get up have a great breakfast to keep me going, wait for my in-laws to show up to watch Megan and then my hubby and I are headed for the game. Yeah baby!!! Where I'm sure we'll be eating some nachos and drinking some beer.
Go Bronco's!!!

Sounds like you've got everything all planned out. Yep...I'll be watching the game as well. My lame team (yes...I like the 49ers,,they suck, tho) is no where to be found...so I am gonna have to root for the Steelers!!
Have a super weekend...I am off to have some beer and nachos for breaksfast.......................Just Kidding.... :)

Your not going to believe this but I met Mike Shanahan last Thursday nite at the Cherry Creek Grill. Someone tricked me into asking if he was a football coach. Me know nothing about football goes up and asks him. He was very nice and said yes I am. I said that guy at the bar I think is your friend. I look back and the guy is gone. So I go back to the bar embarrased and someone says you were talking to Mike Shanahan of the Denver Broncos. So I go back over to Mike to apologize and actually ask him if he is going to the Eas conference on Saturday! He again is very nice and says he is kinda of busy on Saturday. Later on someone let me know the playoffs were Saturday.....can I be anymore embarrassed?

Okay, my husband always makes fun of me about this....but when I was in high school in Colorado, I interviewed Gary Kubiak for my high school newspaper. This was when he was the backup quarterback for John Elway. Now I hear he's up for or is getting a head coaching job in Texas.
Hey, Colorado Kid, I sure hope the game is starting at 3EST not 3MST, my whole day will be messed up....going to go check now.

I am starting to tell such a difference in my body. Only day 12, but I've been hitting it really hard. I'm below 200 lbs as of this morning (199) for the first time in over 5 years. YEA, HAPPY DANCE!!!! The only concern I have is the meals. I am a teacher, so the meals that don't fall during lunch break have to be convenient. I have been drinking the EAS shakes a lot, is that bad? What are some other suggestions for meals 2 and 4? Also, started getting really bad headaches after the workout. What gives? not enough fuel or protein? Let me know, experts.
Thanks

WOW! Congratulations! It feels so great to be able to say those kind of milestone things. Once you hit that kind of mark I think it is really hard to let yourself go over it again... or if you do, you hit it hard to get back down. I get headaches after cardio a lot... I am trying gatoraide and it seems to help even though I am not dehydrated that I think... maybe it is the potassium in it? Becareful though it has LOTS of carbs in it... I buy the powdered stuff and only use 1T vs one scoop and so far it seems to be doing it.

We are friends with a Coors Light distributer and he is going to bring over decorations to put up and small prizes to give away. We are going to BBQ some ribs and a turkey and everyone is going to bring a side dish to share. We are also going to have a football pool going around so people have a chance to win some money. Its definately going to be a fun time.
However, every other year, for the last 3 years, we have spent the Super Bowl at Hard Rock Cafe in Maui, Hawaii! No complaints there...thats for sure!

I love all kinds of music: Coldplay, Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor, Metallica, any disco stuff, Dave Matthews, and of course country. I grew up (dad is a Kentucky native) being subjected to George Jones, Conway Twiity, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr. and Sr. At first I resisted country (your parents like it so you shoud hate it). But I love country music. The older stuff mentioned above, and the newer oldies (Garth,Tim Mcgraw, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn so on). I almost VOMITED this morning on the Elliptical when I saw a new Trace Adkins video "Honky Tonk BAHDONKYDONK" What? What the hell is up with this garbage? Trace is a pretty good singer and it appears he is trying to conform to this new crap there pawning off as country with a hip edge. I'm old-school when it come to my country. Other dislikes "She thinks my tractor's sexy", anything done by Big and Rich. I guess I'm just venting. If I see Reba pierce her belly button I'm gonna freakin shoot myself. Any new country songs you despise??????

Love Love Love country music! Listen to it every time I work out. Today I listened to "Totally Country 2" which had a bunch of hit songs on it.
I don't mind the new stuff (Big and Rich, Cowboy Troy, etc). I think it's great that country music is trying new things.
All time greatest though is Reba McEntire and I am going to see her (for the 11th time) in Las Vegas this summer. She is taking over Barry Manilow's stage for a week's time in May, June, July, and August.

Where's the carbs in these two meals?
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 01:32 PM
in my case....I tried upping my protein intake and decreasing my carbs.
through trial and error found out that my system needed those carbs early in the day...I too had a problem with being light headed.
So, I dropped the carb portion from my last two meals.....worked out alot better for me.
Body for Life Forum Message by BuckeyeBoy (94 posts) at 01:51 PM
Dropping carbs later in the day can drop those stubborn pounds if you plateau. The last 10 truly are the hardest. Diet/cardio/rest all have to be on target!

Sounds like you're not eating enough at all. Your blood sugar is LOW because you have not had enough to eat and there are no carbs. Your brain can't function without enough carbs, so try adding some good carbs and see how you feel.

I have to admit that my fat is cracking me up. Hussman is right - the more I exercise, the more blood reaches the "old" fat and it begins to soften up as I lose a few pounds and exercise. Seems like the first thing I do in the mornings is check the "state of the fat." Does more of it seem gone? Can I tell a difference? Does it seem softer? I have to admit that I won't miss my poor old fat but I stop short of wishing it on anyone else;)
Anyone else carefully monitoring their "state of the fat?" as it changes from hard blubber to softer substances on it's way out?
(Can't believe I'm posting this...LMAO!)
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 02:15 PM
OMG---I have never read that---fat gets soft before it changes.
I did read that cellulite becomes more prominent before it leaves your body....still waiting for that one to happen on my thighs.
BUT, I did take three weeks off, then was sick for 1 1/2 weeks. Maybe now that I'm back in full swing my fat will get soft in the AB region and my cellulite will finally leave my thighs
Body for Life Forum Message by Scattergold (63 posts) at 02:25 PM
OMG on so many levels!
for one I had noticed that my tummy was feeling softer, but didnt know why...
Also... I was noticing today (and getting VERY annoyed) that my bum seemed to have a lot more celulite than I ever remembered.... I really hope that both of these things are signs of good things to come!
Can anyone post some links to some articles or something further explaining this kind of phenomenon? lol ;-)

and here is the part of the article that talks about it..pretty cool! Althoug I reccomend reading the whole article, very interesting and helpful!
Lastly, if you've been sedentary for a long time, your fat probably hasn't seen an ounce of circulation since high school. This causes your fat to turn thick and hard, or "blubbery" (yes, Scrabble fans, that is a word). Marine animals have this sort of fat deposit, called a "blubber lay". When you start working out consistently, some of you may find that your fat or cellulite becomes more like Jell-O initially. In whales (forgive me - this is not personal), increased activity also forces a change in circulation strategy so that there is increased blood flow near the body's surface. I suspect that this occurs in humans as well, so you may be a little "pink" for even hours after a good workout.
Body for Life Forum Message by anavywife (171 posts) at 04:31 PM
I am constantly assessing my "fat levels"!! I wake up every morning and decide whether or not any has disappeared...needless to say I have been very soft for a very long time! How long is this switch supposed to last? Ever since I lost my initial amount of fat, everything has been loose and soft:( My guess is that it probably wont be changing much!

This is good to know taht this is what is occuring because I have noticed that during my cardio run I find that the jiggle is quite a bit more intense then ever before almost to the point of annoying. This makes me feel so much better to know that I am losing that softer fat becasue of the greater blood flow to that area.
Melt away fat.

Soy is a complete protein and is a great choice, especially for vegetarians.
You may have heard that soy protein is a poorer choice in a protein powder than whey protein. Whey protein powder is a better choice, according to many diehard lifters. But really, you can make a case for both sides. Soy is thought to be the more "feminine" one, as weird as that sounds. But i think they are both good choices.
Here are some interesting links, if anyone really cares (i'm a nutrition grad student, gimme a break!!):

I have noticed that my results were much better in the past when I made sure I got the proper amount of protein in the morning to start my day off. I am slipping in this deparment and I need ideas to keep myself succesful. I can't cook eggs everyday (or egg whites) and I need help here.

are you making the Choc Oatmeal out of the book? mine turns out great:
1/3 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup water
1 scoop protein powder
i stir it up and microwave it for 1 minute.
another one i've been using is the pancake recipe someone posted a couple weeks ago. i make up a bunch and throw them in the freezer, take them out and microwave as needed.
i believe the recipe was: blend 1/2 cup oats, 2 eag whites, and 1/2 cottage cheese in blender.. add cinnamon and/or splenda.. and cook like pancakes.. very good!
Body for Life Forum Message by kitwhit (38 posts) at 12:34 PM
Hey Joe - this is what I do too! I cook the oatmeal in water and just add the scoop of protein powder at the end and stir it in with no extra water. If it's too thick I add a dribble of soy milk. I also add a packet of splenda. It's actually pretty good.
Body for Life Forum Message by Joe (141 posts) at 12:37 PM
I have done that too, problem is the consistency, so I jsut thought I would hcekc what others were / are doing. i don't have the EFL book, although I Am considering purchasing it for ideas.
I don't really like the idea of using supplements all that much, I feel that I WOuld be happier working with whole foods, but sometimes you need to use supplements, so why not get ideas from fellow BFL'ers!
Plus- I can't afford a lot of supplements, my wife won't share them with me cuz she doesn't like them, so she wants me to get foods that she can eat. That makes it tough.

Joe~ First of all, the brand of protein powder makes a huge difference with mixing. We used to use EAS Whey and it was ok tasting, but didn't mix well. We got turned on to Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey and LOVE IT! It mixed a lot better and the flavor is awesome.
The way we make our oatmeal/protein concoction is to mix the protein and 8oz of water in a shaker and pour it over 1/2 cup of oatmeal. Microwave for 2 minutes. YUMMY!!!

Thank you for posting this. I had the same problem this morning; didn't know about adding powder+water.
Speaking of powder, I purchased some Designer Whey Powder from Trader Joe's. Is this stuff BFL acceptable? Is all powder the same?
Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (1036 posts) at 01:01 PM
Katie--did you check the nutritional info on the Designer Whey? From what I've seen it's ok for BFL. Some of their flavors can have more sugar.

The Vanilla one has
Calories: 90
Fat: 1.5
Carbs: 2
Protein: 18
Body for Life Forum Message by tinkerbell (347 posts) at 07:35 PM
I used Designer Whey all the time vanilla and choclate, until Kroger stopped carrying it. It's fine.
Now I use Naturade 100% Whey, which is good also, but more expensive.
My breakfast of champions is 1/2 c. raw oatmeal (not quick oats), 1/2 c. skim milk, 1 scoop (serving) of protein powder. If I use vanilla, I add 1 or 2 packets of Splenda. Chocolate doesn't need it.
I add protein powder to cooked oatmeal as well, and Designer Whey and Naturade don't clump up. I just throw it in and stir it up, don't add more water or milk. I also add 1-2 packets of Splenda to the vanilla, maybe a little cinnamon and Molly McButter.
The EFL Chocolate Oatmeal didn't work for me.
Body for Life Forum Message by tinkerbell (347 posts) at 07:36 PM
Also, if you have EFL, the breakfast casserole is great for a make ahead breakfast. I make one on Sunday and my husband takes it to work everyday.

I do the same as everyone here seems to be doing: 1/2 cup uncooked oatmeal, 1/2 cup water...micro for 2 minutes then add 1 scoop of protein powder and a splenda with just a tad more water or a splash of milk. Works great and consistency is fine. I have used cheaper protein that doesnt seem to work as well. Now, I only use Precision protein.

I do hardboiled eggs, too. And string cheese. My favorite breakfast is the EFL ham, egg and cheese sandwich. Yeah, you have to cook eggs, but it only takes a few minutes and it is YUMMY. Oh, and cottage cheese is a great no-cook option. I get it in 4-ounce containers. Great to go!
Body for Life Forum Message by bethkk (258 posts) at 09:31 PM
The first time I made this I HATED it!! I tried again today and LOVED it!! I think the key for me is to not put in the protein powder until the oatmeal is cooked. I didn't have to add more water, but then I like my oatmeal thick. I can't wait to make it again tomorrow!!

Has anyone tried the Quakers instant Weight Control Oatmeal? It comes in Cinnamon...Also in Bannana Flavoring. I don't even have to add Splenda to it. Doesn't really cost more when you consider the protein powder your using. The Quakers has protein and carbs. You can always eat a small piece of fruit and you have a balance meal. I like watermelon so I have a very small slice.

Hi, I am new to the forum. I have been lifting for several years now, mostly power lifting (nothing competitive just trying to improve myself). I have developed a good base of muscle mass. However I have way too much fat. I have followed the plan for almost 3 weeks and I have seen results. I feel that I have done well following the eating program described in BFL. My only concern is that since I already have a good amount of muscle mass, and thus a higher metabolism that I might be cutting my calories too much. I might be worrying about nothing. Perhaps all I need is to get away from the power lifter mind set of eat a lot of protein and a lot of calories to build a lot of muscle. Could anyone tell me how to tell if I am not getting enough calories as this is not something that I am used to even thinking about LOL. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Body for Life Forum Message by Young Guns (1611 posts) at 02:01 PM
just follow Bill's hand, palm, fist method and you should be fine. If you want to go more indepth you can go to www.bodybuilding.com they have a bmr calculator there and you can figure the right amount of calories you should need that way.
Body for Life Forum Message by Muscle Head (49 posts) at 02:10 PM
My experience only, and I wasn't near your size .... but once I broke down the palm/fist portion method into calories, I discovered I was only getting 1600 calories per day. Unfortunately I did not figure it out until after my first 12 weeks. After I adjusted the calories up to 2500 per day .... my strength returned and the fat came off much easier and faster.
With your background and size, i would pay attention to your strength levels closely, as well as body composition. Adjust your intake based on those things.
You already know the hard work it takes to get strong ... trust me when I say losing it and then getting it back is even harder.
My thoughts.
Body for Life Forum Message by taylor76 (4 posts) at 02:56 PM
Also, I am from time to time hungry. Is this normal? I was thinking that maybe my hunger at the beginning of the challenge could be simply due to my stomach adjusting to the smaller volume of food at each meal. I also want to know if it could be due to increased metabolism sparked by eating 6 times a day. Before starting BFL I would eat 2 or 3 large meals. Has anyone else experienced this. I appreciate all the advice.
Body for Life Forum Message by tinkerbell (347 posts) at 07:44 PM
You should be hungry for your next meal, but not hungry an hour after eating. Your body may be adjusting to your new eating habits, but really on BFL you really should never be hungry, hungry. If you are, then you need to re-evalute your intake.
A sign of under-eating would be if you are plateauing, meaning you haven't lost any fat. Your body could go in to starvation mode.

How much sodium in lunchmeat is too much?
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 04:25 PM
wish I had an answer for ya on that one.....I only use real turkey for pita pockets and stuff.
Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (1036 posts) at 04:56 PM
You'll find most lunchmeats can have up to about 500mgs of sodium per serving.
That's why I stopped buying it. 500mgs for something you might eat daily is a LOT.
I haven't found any low sodium lunchmeat. I usually buy large turkey breasts and cook those myself. Those are lower in sodium for sure.
Body for Life Forum Message by Larry (165 posts) at 05:02 PM
Jame,
It would be best for you to make that decision on your own. Check out the label and think about the following considerations:
The new USA guideline for sodium consumption (issued in late 2005) is now 2400 mg. That's about 1 teaspoon per day total per adult. Incidently, the Canadian recommendation is even lower, at 1,600 mg. per day.
Be careful when you examine the label. Take a close look at the serving size. Some luncheon meats will say 20% of daily requirements, but the serving size is like 1 or two slices! At that rate, and with our need for protein, we could overdose on salt with one sandwich!
I shoot for about 1500 - 2000 (including salts in packaged foods, like canned vegetables). That can be a challenge unless you go for the unprocessed stuff and the "low-salt" and/or "no salt" varieties.
------
You got to be careful -- it's a salty world out there.

Just completed the cardio on day 6 of week 2. Have also played 2 games of squash this week after a 6 week lay off due to torn ankle ligaments (one of the reasons I am doing this since I think the additional weight I am packing puts too much strain on my ankles). I have to say it was hell....
Before the first 2 mins of warm up were completed I could feel the lactic acid buid up in my thighs and I thought how on earth am I going to get to 9 never mind 10 after 18 mins.
Anyway I just kept going, focusing on getting to the next level six when I would get some respite.
The final 9 and then the 10 to follow made me realise I had not hit a 10 before. 1 minute has never felt so long and I could barely complete the 1 min warm down before collapsing onto the floor. Two days rest before the next cardio - I might have to plan the squash not to be a night before cardio!

it depends on your goals, if you are in the official contest-no alcohol. if you are trying to improve your heal and not concerned with getting you maximum potential then have a couple. My goodness, Pixy, I got winded just reading!!
I am new to treadmills, the last time i was on one.. it threw me in the wall. (i am not the most graceful one) LOL..
My goal is to REMAIN ON the treadmill.. so far I am managing my top speed at 3.7 with an incline of 10.. this is my 10.. .. when I push myself, i can hold a run for 20 seconds at 4.0. then my asthma kicks in.. I have found that I am getting better.. Week 1 I could only do 2o minutes with a speed 3.0 and an incline of 5.. Progress!!!
Thank you for your inspiration. I will set my goal to match yours as well. : ) In my Challenge 2 !!
have a great weekend

It's awesome to see how much of an inspiration you are being. Keep at it! And super duper job!! I can't do pullups either.

Motivation Comes From Within. I guess I take a hardline/old-school approach. I feel you have to be so fed up with your current physical state that nothing will stop you from committing a measly little 12 weeks! That's the "hardcore" way to look at it. Also ditto the things Kerry said too. This is a good site for inspiration and accountability. GOOD LUCK to you!

In essence, if we want to direct our lives, we must take control of our consistent actions. It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, but what we do consistently.
- Anthony Robbins
So, what we do consistently shapes our lives, as in gives us the shape in our life, round or fit. Consistently eat things that are bad for you and don't exercise and your shape is round. Consistently eat good things and exercise....well you get the idea.

Hi Guys! 2nd post here...I'm on W3,D6...I'm really proud of a few things I've achieved - I have to share!
1. Lost 3 lbs
2. Lost 1.5 " from my waist
3. Can fit into size 4's now..finally!
4. Yesterday I NEARLY achieved my goal of running 2 miles in 20 minutes...got to 1.97 miles. I can really tell a difference in my cardiovascular conditioning already. Amazing and SO exciting!
5. No longer sluggish in the afternoons - no longer craving sweets - god, this is amazing!
6. Feeling so incredible and full of energy - I practically run and jump in the mornings!! Not wiped out at night either.
7. Finding lots of yummy things to eat that I will stash away in my cooking repetoire for LIFE...crockpot turkey tocos, Asian turkey meatballs, YUMMM
Anyway, I'm bursting at the seams. Here are a few things I wanted to ask people about..do you notice these things?
1. My skin sometimes gets so hot, like it's buring all over. Is this fat being burned away?
2. I get a funny taste in my mouth when I'm working out or right before meals. Similar to when I lost weight on South Beach...anyone else?
3. Lately I have been really hungry. I've gone from 1600 calories to 2000 calories a day...I'm eating enough to where I get hungry right before my meal...so I'm sure I'm not eating too much...did you guys notice this?
I am so freaking committed and excited about this. woo hooo!! Maybe I'll post pictures at week 4. I'm trying to enlist my friend and sister to do it with me...I figure they'll be inspired by me...my friend already is and is doing the workouts with me :_) Sister lives in Germany and can't see results. Anyway, I so enjoy this website & feel like I know some of you!1!!! Best of luck

Hi Team 8,
I saw a question regarding the standings, right now we are in 2nd place about 5 points back of team 5. I can't find this weeks results either.
A few of us have had a tough week this week but managed to stay on track overall. But in order to catch team 5 we are going to need the sheets in on time! That will be by Sunday night and we get 2 free bonus points each. That alone is enough to catch team 5!
Next week is our last week of this mini-challenge, so let's take this weekend to get re-focused, re-read our goals, reach those mini-goals, re-dedicate ourselves to completing what we started, give 110% and as Linda would say:
Let's GET*HER*DONE!!!
Have a great weekend, and a Great Week!

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 09:09 AM
Leg Press (I think that was the culprit)
but, I also use the machines that work your inner & outer thighs.....with enough weight you have to use your glutes to press.
Then ofcourse I was on the stair (ass) master for 15 minutes too.

Hey Brian. If you are losing inches, don't worry about the pics. I'm thinking that the pics are an illusion. In the first shot, you are farter from the camera than in the second.
On the food front, I think I read in BFL that to lose weight, which you have obviously done, it is 80% nutrition. Keep working on that.
Keep it up, you ARE doing it!

hello everyone. im doing sort of an extended challenge. i started dec 12th 2005 with an end date on april 3rd 2006. so its around 16 instead of 12 weeks. im coming upon my 6th week now, and have lost about 4 lbs of fat, i feel like ive gained muscle, and my measurements have gone down. ive been feeling great and im sooo happy i got past that 4 week thing that happens to everyone when they first start. but im feeling a little down. i have a killer flu right now and cant workout. i have hardly any appetite so im not eating tons. but im just getting worried! i have 10 more weeks to reach my goal of 155lbs by my 1 year anniversary. can it be done!!?!?! im at 176lbs right now so i have 21 more to go. is it unrealistic to think i can get to 155 in 10 weeks? i know im putting on muscle and the scale isnt what im really going by. when i got married i weighed 150lbs and wore a 9/10 so i just want to be at that size/shape again by april. so if i get there without the fat loss im hoping for then thats great. what does everyone think? my husband says hes so proud that im sticking to this and he will be pissed if i quit (which i wont!) but im just looking for some advice on what i can expect to happen in 10 weeks. and you will all have to excuse me if im repeating stuff or this doesnt make any sense, my head is super congested!!! anyway, thanks in advance!

Body for Life Forum Message by Kerry (1110 posts) at 10:05 AM
It is possible. What would help is if you actually figured out what that entails. Basically you are looking to loose 2 lbs per week. You need to figure out how many calroies 2 lbs a week is, and then make sure you burn that many more calories each week than you take in.
In C1 ( kinda went crazy) I dropped 22 lbs of body fat in the 12 weeks- but also added about 12 lbs of lean mass.
So yes it can be done. You need to negotiate the price you must pay to accomplish this, and create a plan to ensure you do in fact pay that price :)
Yours in Health
Kerry
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (322 posts) at 10:28 AM
Yes, it can be done. I was doing cardio 5 - 6 days per week in my 1st challenge, plus doing the lifting. I was doing 40 minutes instead of 20 on the elliptical. My cardio was split between the elliptical and running, and I was running for 20 - 25 minutes, covering about 2 miles in that time frame. The cardio was done 1st thing in the morning. I lost a lot of weight doing that. Maybe it will work for you. Other things I have been told work are not doing one free day per week but just one free meal per week. However, that can be tough for a lot of people. My wife and I discovered during the 1st challenge that after that 1st or 2nd free day we just did not want to eat "free" like we used to before starting the challenge so our free day did turn out to be just 1, maybe 2 free meals on one day per week, with our water consumption still really high, and eating BFL for the other meals that one day.
Body for Life Forum Message by Booloo (33 posts) at 03:12 PM
Good advice, from both fellows above. Kerry is right, you need to look at your goal, break it down, and figure out what you need to do every day to get there. Just for myself, I notice a *big* jump in inches and fat loss when take only a free meal or two a week, and do extra cardio. I've been fairly diligent this challenge about always doing some extra cardio every day, even just walking briskly, and I've been very careful about the two free days I've had - a big change from past challenges. The weight is coming off at about 2lbs a week, which is what I need it to do to hit my goal.
And if the scale doesn't give you the answers you are looking for, throw the damn thing in the closet and concentrate on measurements and how you feel. That's a better gage!
You can do it!! Don't give up: give everything you have.
Heather

hi everyone, thanks for the great advice! this is what my routine is so far:
mon:ubwo tues:lbwo & 3 mile walk/jog weds:hiit on recumbant bike th:ubwo & 3 mile walk/jog fri:lbwo sat:hiit & 3 mile walk/jog sun: hiit. i know the setup of it isnt bfl exactly, but its working for me so far! as far as eating goes, i have to eat pretty clean due to having celiac disease, i cant eat many processed foods or any gluten/wheat, etc. so my diet is pretty much lots of veggies and protein and carbs from rice, fruits, etc. once in a while ill have a gluten free cookie or some rice pasta, but ive kind of given up on the free day because theres not much of an option for me!!! and it gets depressing! i know i need to kick it up a notch if i really want the results im after, i just need the kick to get me in the right direction!! i have to admit that occasionally ill miss a hiit, ive gotten all my weights in since starting, but if i do miss a workout its cardio. and i know i need to do it for the fat loss. i just have to comit to getting it done every single day. (well maybe today will be an exception, due to my god awful flu!)i just needed the reasurance that reaching my goal is possible!
thanks!

Ok so I discovered yesterday that waking up in a pool of sweat is a good thing, something happened in the gym tonite and my little brain spit out "IMAGINE HOW MUCH BETTER YOU WILL DO IF YOU GO ALL OUT". I thought I was going all out from the beginning (3 weeks now) but now I know that my mind is just starting to turning the corner. I hit everything harder than I would have ever expected I could tonite and I am SMOKED. I had absolutely nothing left when it can to the biceps, but somehow I did what I had planned.
The point is I just wanna let everyone know that as soon as you start to feel or notice something different (like waking up in the pool of sweat or anything) really engage your mind and push all out and the smile that is on your face when you walk out of the gym, garage, or whereever you work out will make people think you are a physco (especially after they have seen the "do not disturb im workin" face)!!!
Thnks to Big Bull, Young Guns, and everyone else who helped answer my question last nite....
I BET YOU CAN PUSH HARDER,
MATT

Yes yes YES!!!! Isn't it a fantastic feeling when you realize you can do more, push harder, than you realized you could? That if you put your mind to it, you can squeeze every last bit into a workout.
You are inspiring *me* to work harder at my next workout.

Okay... so this is weird.... and I'm not sure if its related to anything happening here with BFL.... but I've noticed I've been itchy... like a tickly itch around the areas I've got my pudge... like my bum, my thighs, my lower belly.... this just started recently... and its not a dry skin itch... its more like it just tickles underneath...
any idea what this might be? Or do I just have a bizzarre out of nowhere itch?
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 03:08 PM
maybe it's because the skin is tightening
just a thought
Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (793 posts) at 03:39 PM
I get that. Especially on my tummy and inner thighs.
Don't know what it is. Definately not dry skin feeling.
Skin tightening....yeah I would love it!
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 03:40 PM
since that would make everyone happy.....that's what we're gonna say it is
Body for Life Forum Message by brancammom (18 posts) at 03:40 PM
I have had that too, not really an itch, but a "tinge" does that make sense? I have had it in my belly, especially when I go to bed and am really tired, my butt, and my inner thighs. Hopefully it is skin tightening cuz when it comes to my belly, I need all the tightening I can get!!!

I get one after i start to exercise when I havent been for a long time - but mine's because my blood ciruclation starts immproving and it creates this wierd tingle itchy feeling.
Havent had it in a logn time though :)
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 03:59 PM
well, look at you Tai-Kee
it's because you have nice tight skin
Body for Life Forum Message by Lani (2 posts) at 04:08 PM
I was reading on a website the other day about how your skin can get all red and itchy and I believe it has to do with the increased circulation near the surface of your skin. I get this occasionally.
Body for Life Forum Message by jps2lean (60 posts) at 11:08 PM
Wow! I thought I was so wierd and the only one that experiences this! When I exercise, I itch like crazy on the back of my legs. Sometimes on my abs too. It's good to know I am not alone.
Body for Life Forum Message by saint (8 posts) at 03:10 PM
Not that I had realised that it was hidden in the first place. There is definately a bone showing in my week 2 picture that can't be seen in my week 0!!
I have to admit even though I was disappointed with 1lb weight loss this week I am really happy with the change in my front profile after only 2 weeks. Also my clothes feel so much more comfortable throughout the whole day.
And... I have lost an inch of my calves -- how does that happen in 2 weeks?
I cannot wait to see week 12 - ths is great!
Mark

Ok, I have been working out pretty consistantly for the last 4 months, have lost over 50 pounds and started BFL jan 3rd. Never had a problem with my period until this month. Woke up this morning as "super bitch". I was irritated at EVERYTHING, didn't even know my period was there yet! Yelled at my husband that "I WAS NOT TAKING THE DOGS OUT" went to the bathroom and BOOM. Next thing I know I am crying, I cried while I got my boys lunches ready, defrosted my car, took the dogs out (my husband was flabbergasted). Then was totally fine taking the boys to school. I called my husband to see if he wanted to go to the gym with me, but apparently my behavior at home kinda threw him off and he didn't quite want to be around me! Anyway, I ended up going to the gym by myself and had an incredible cardio 45 minute cardio workout. Then I decided I was full of energy, and pushed myself through an intense UBWO. Then I saw hubby and got pissed off all over again. Then got home, and things were totally fine with us. I was happy, things were great. Then as we drove to pick the boys up again, I got weepy again and he asked what was going on and I said to ignore me because I was hormonal...which is exactly what he did, which pissed me off. UGG! I was so mad at him, for no reason, that I scrubbed my kitchen floor, cleaned the bathrooms, and vacummed every nook and cranny in our house. Yeah, he is not too happy with me right now, but I feel fine...at the moment!! :)
Ok, after this rant, I Just need to say, I have never been this moody! My monthly never really affects me. I just want to see if there is anyone out there who has been kinda crazy after getting their period after starting bfl. Has it affected your moods? Has anyone been kinda off their rocker?
Oh yeah, and the wierd thing, yesterday morning I weighed myself and I weighed 195.4, last night, before going to bed I weighed 214.8. This morning? I weighed 192.0. Then right before I logged on here (after taking a long bath!) I weighed 201.2.
Am I the only one going through this? IF so I will officially claim myself as crazy!!!
Thanks for letting me VENT yet again,
Tammie

let's just say --------- NO
you are not alone.....I think my husband keeps up a calender, so he knows when it's TIME, so he can generally stay outta my way.
I too, revert into super-bitch mode
feel better now?
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (291 posts) at 03:41 PM
I don't know if I can relate, I am ALWAYS crazy psycho woman around TOM. Maybe your hormones are affecting you differently because you weigh less... dunno. ??
And as for the scale... you will always weight signifcantly more at night because you've been eating and drinking water all day. Morning is the best time to weigh. Stay off the scale except for once a week! ;)

Body for Life Forum Message by brancammom (18 posts) at 03:50 PM
I think children have a way to pick locks and break sound barriers when it comes to mommies taking baths and wanting "mommy time". Just the thought of the concept sends my boys into panic fits!
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (630 posts) at 03:54 PM
get a radio for your bathroom too.
drown the littel suckers out
enjoy your bath AND your tylenol PM

Agent 69 you are great! Your mentality (I have no idea if I spelled that right!) is so like mine!

Let's recap for a moment:
boys lunch made
car defrosted
dogs walked
boys driven to school
45 minutes hard cardio rocked
UBWO rocked
boys picked up from school
kitchen floor scrubbed
bathrooms cleaned
full house vacuumed
three pounds lost
All that - girl, you DESERVE to have your time as Super Bitch.

LOL!!!! That was like looking in the mirror! I am always pretty weird around that time of the month. But it's not caue Im doing BFL, I have always been this way. ONly thing that gets me through is pamperin...it is such a good muscle relaxer that you will have to take a nap about 15 min after you take it. I always get super bad cramps and this is the only thing that helps. I used to use midol but a friend introduced me to pamperin and i am in love! Your family will thank you for it....LOL Hope you have a better one tomorrow!
