Thread: I just found out i'm pregnant!! (154 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by kjsmith (19 posts) at 01:16 PM: I just found out i'm pregnant!!
I just found out I'm pregnant and I'm just starting my 3rd week. Which is great news b/c we have been trying for a second child for a while. My question is if anyone out there did BFL while pregnant. I'm not worried about losing weight I just want to make sure I'm in great shape and not gain too much. I don't take any supplements but my prenatal vits and folic acid. Does anyone know when you should reduce your exersion level to a heart rate under 145 bpm? Should I do low weights with more reps for my lifting? Kris

Congratulations. Hussmanfitness.org has a Q&A section on the bottom right of the screen. Click on that and one of the questions is about pregnant and lactating women. He may answer your questions. It is a very informative website. I had started the challenge a year ago in January and was one week into it when I found out that I was pregnant with our second (the first was just 7 months old). I quit the program because I didn't have good information and wasn't sure what was safe. I think the Hussman site has some good stuff on it. Wishing you the best and hope you keep us posted!!!

Congratulations Kris!!! BFL has gotten me pregnant twice LOL. (Two times I've made it to about week 3 or 4 and found out I was pg!) Talk to your ob/gyn and explain what BFL is all about and make sure you get your doc's thumbs up and suggested tweaks to the program. Happy & healthy 9 months to ya! Ang

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (239 posts) at 09:55 AM: How do you take your UDO's??
help, I'm trying to take Udo's oil, and made the mistake of swallowing it straight from the bottle...YUCK!! How do you take yours? Can you cook w/ it? There's gotta be a better way....

Body for Life Forum Message by GET*HER*DONE (3044 posts) at 12:35 PM:
lol that's funny, but I don't know either, I just ordered that too, I finially got around to using my $100 gift cert I won from the lifers forum challenge. Gus recommended it, he said you can use it as a salad dressing, I'll have to ask him more about it ok, I'll pm you when I find out Linda

Body for Life Forum Message by Edward (30 posts) at 12:39 PM:
I agree the stuff is nasty. It tastes like a gnarly healthy cereal with like wheat and barley or something but worse. It's weird though because some days it doesn't bother me and other times it makes me want to hurl. Some people mix it up with a bit of fat free Italian dressing and eat it on salad that way. I've heard of others putting it in their Myoplex...but I think it would make the entire Myoplex taste like an Udo's shake which is unacceptable. I found that drinking a little bit of orange juice (yes, it is unauthorized) really clears up the after taste. It works very well. But the best way is to just not take it. Body for Life says supplement with oil OR eat three portions of salmon a week. I prefer salmon.

Body for Life Forum Message by Tracy06BFL (47 posts) at 12:40 PM:

Body for Life Forum Message by Nicabod (120 posts) at 02:47 PM:
I put it in my Myoplex, and I honestly can't taste it that way. It really doesn't make your shake taste like the oil. Just make sure you shake it up really well.

What's a UDO?

Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (47 posts) at 04:28 PM:
UDO's is an oil that contains flax seed, sesame, and sunflower oils as well as coconut and some other oils. It claims to have a great balance of omega 3's and 6's...both of which have many health benefits, the most important being anti-inflammatory properties. Since my understanding is that we get enough omega 6's from just about any diet, and Omega 3's are what we lack (we dont need supplements) and because UDO's is much more expensive than flax seed, I just use flax seed oil.

Body for Life Forum Message by Runaway (7 posts) at 05:27 PM:
Wow, thanks. Never heard of it. I just keep on learning from this site.

I was wondering who has done bfl while taking betagen? Do you know if any of the competitors on the body for life challenge took this or any other muscle building supplements? Do you think this supplement has increased you results or have you had problems with it? I was just wondering so I can figure out wether it would be beneficial for me to take it or not.

Hang in there, I know everything has been turned upside down, but once Cameron starts getting appropriate therapies (and meds), while you will be sad that this had to be at all, you will start having a lot of hope. Also as you develop a network of professionals you like and other parents who have kids on the spectrum you won't feel so alone. It is a hard road sometimes, and things change every six months, but you are a great mom and Cameron is a great kid and nothing can change that. It's taken me 5 years (since the dx)to stop stressing, but at the end of the day I can say as long as Jack is happy -- no matter what we might be strugging with in therapies, school, meds or whatever -- that is all that matters and I can be happy too... Hang in there, life has become more challenging, but it is still a wonderful thing and Cameron is a wonderful kid who will be OK no matter what.

Body for Life Forum Message by beachsoccer (23 posts) at 06:19 PM: How do you guys reward yourselves?
I have a lot of work to do this weekend, but instead I'm hanging out in tracker and posting questions like "How do you guys reward yourselves?" I guess I reward myself with lots of time to procrastinate. Yea this is creepy, but a little gift at the end of the week totally inspires me. Who knew something like a bottle of soap could be so life altering? Week 1 I bought cinamon bun soap at http://www.sephora.com/ and the EFL cookbook off of amazon.com Week 2 I bought a $6 magazine subscription at http://discountmagazines.com/ Looking forward to swim goggles and an I-pod holder Are other people inspired by material posessions as much as me? What do you look forward to rewarding yourself with?

My friend was telling me about a treadmill at her gym that adjusts to a very steep incline - at least twice as steep as a regular treadmill. She couldn't find a brand on it, and I'm sure she will forget to ask the staff about it. Anyone seen anything like this? She said not only was it a great cardio workout, but that she could feel it in the glutes way more than on a regular treadmill. Thanks!

Body for Life Forum Message by beachsoccer (23 posts) at 06:46 PM:
Thanks for the ideas everyone. I hadn't thought of some of these. I cleaned out my veg. crisper and filled it with baggies of instant meals for the week. Boiled eggs and fruit, Boiled eggs and veg. Veg and string cheese, boiled shrimp and artichoke, boiled red and yellow babby potatoes and a few ounces of smoked salmon (I guess it has a little sugar and sodium, but it's the only way I get fish). Stuff like that. I'm interested in ideas people have for meals that don't require a fork or microwave because I go to school from 9 am to 9 pm. So far I've just been packing like five baggies a day and then comming home and having a shake before bed. It's weird to post such mundane details about your life, but I need ideas. Also I've made caned salmon and caned crab cakes and taken that the next day with salad. The BFL meatloaf also packs well. I just add like an apple or something. Oh, and BFL carrot muffins keep for a while. I added some blueberries, dried cherries, and pears to a batch with some extra protien and made a few more than the recipee called for to freez. This post makes me look like a foodie. I'm not. Usually I couldn't care less what I eat, but someone mentioned that superfoods book in one post and I went ahead and put myself on a reserve list at the library....I can't believe I'm on a waiting list at the library for a book called superfoods and kind of excited to see what it has to say. It's a brand new day. Keep the ideas comming.

I agree the PB on top makes them extra yummy!!!! The last time I made them I didn't have eggs so I used egg beaters and I didn't have orange juice, but found a little can of pineapple juice, that worked fine too.

Another resaon you have to do your workouts in the morning (apart from the raised metabolism for the afterburn) is that if you get it out of the way first thing, it's done and nothing can take that from you. I sometimes have to do it in the pm and there are so many things that can get in the way... maybe I am tired, or realised that i have run out of yogurt and have to go to the supermarket... suddenly, I haven't gone to the gym and I feel bad. Paranil- A herb mixture thats used to kill parasites and their eggs and larvae (shudder) that are in your intestinal track Cleanser- An herb fiber you drink in the morning about 20 minutes after the paranil This morning I mixed my fiber with some chocolate soy milk and a little torani SF vanilla syrup- it was not bad! Still something you know is for healths sake, but definitely tolerable~ So now I'm off to see what today produces...Im just glad I found that remote...I was lookin for that thing forever...

Not that I share my "irregularity" adventures with girls at the office. But we did get on the topic one day (with some of my closer female buds) and it seems to be more common with my female friends than I knew.........For some reason I don't think it's as common in males. I swear I use one roll of toilet paper to my boys' 6 rolls.

Jomama, I'm so impressed by a dollar a day. I've traveled for a couple of years in the developing world and I always try to see how many dollars a day I can get by on with food, lodging, and transportation, but here in the developed world, I've never come close to a dollar a day. Actually, I don't think I've even gotten by on a dollar a day in Bolivia or Burma. You should self publish a cook book. Seriously. I draw the line at making cheese from dried milk, but I just want to see how you did it.

Like Kevin, I spend a lot on myself. I buy mostly organic veggies and fruit and free range chicken. I eat salmon about two to three times a week. Tonight's grocery trip for the week: $67.69. And that's on the low side. Ugh. Supplements are on top of this.

Well, CSM, that just about sums up C2 for me. The good news is maintence is a cinch for those who are at that stage ( I'm not ). Why that happened to me was: A) after fantastic results for C1, I wanted to continue in the right direction, but felt after research it was time to change things routine wise so muscles and the body would not get "used to" what I was doing. B) I wanted to eliminate charts ( you know tracking sets, exercises and reps ) cause I did not want to lug those around the gym for the rest of my days. C) I wanted to shorten the gym time from almost 2 plus hours per day from C1 to about an hour per day for C2. Essentially I was pulled in many directions, attempting to change too much too fast, without recording efforts and results. I did the same, finished the challenge right where I started ( which is ok as a learning experience ). For C3, I was able to regain the focus with the new routine ( heavier weights- less sets and reps ) and it worked out great. Change is good and will lead to success. Remember I am not advocating leaving BFL, just learning from it and enchancing it to what works best for you. Planning is key, and I'm sure you will kick bum and take no prisioners in C3. Maybe used the final weeks of C2 to plan C3. :) Yours in Health, Kerry

anybody ever get down to the last few sheets, and they are stuck to the cursed roll? LOL. I'm gonna figure out how to get em off, and when I do, I'll let you know. BTW this is a great piece, and folks should read it more often, esp. newer peeps who haven't seen it yet. Yours in Health, Kerry

Body for Life Forum Message by keaton7655 (9 posts) at 07:10 AM:
This was very motivating. My paper towels just seem to be coming off the top faster than the bottom which is completely opposite of how I would have liked it, but hey, I'm not gonna complain, 'cause they are indeed coming off! Rene'

Body for Life Forum Message by Forest Tech (163 posts) at 07:18 AM:
I found myself often thinking of this post along my C1 journey. I kept thinking it will come it will come.. I just can't see the small changes yet.. I am peeling the sheets... and low and behold it came!!! Finally when I look in the mirror I KNOW it is working and that getting through that C1-this-isn't-working-hump was critical!!

Another post based on DR Hussman's site kept me going as well.. the whole working from the inside out and fat IN your muscles leaving before fat on the outside. Hence no change for a long time (despite feeling better etc.) then all the outside change happening faster later on. Well that is a case study about me! ;) Not really.. but I can vouch for this story!!

The moral of my ramblings today is.. if you are in week 4 or 5 or even 8-9 and you think "why did everyone else change and I am doing everything right and nothing is really happening?" It is CRUCIALL ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY CRUCIAL that you stick with it!!! Just ignore your negative thoughts and BELIEVE.. like whole heartedly believe.. not say you are believing as you eat a pint of icecream and are actually giving up.. The changes WILL come and the best part is.. is when they do come, they come faster, and then you push harder, then then they improve more and the cycle goes on!! Trust me all of you that are struggling in the middle of your challenge.. do this and you will THANK yourself in the end!!

Talk about a simple post turning into me going on a HUUUGE tangent!! ;p

Body for Life Forum Message by doidle (10 posts) at 07:19 AM: Re: The Paper Towel Theory
Rene, you are looking great, though - don't get discouraged - the weight coming off your upper body first has resulted in your face looking really pretty. Isn't that great? I've noticed it in mine too. That's how all the starts are so gorgeous - very little fat in their face to cover up their features. Humans look better with more of their bone structure showing. anyway...great job...good post!

You don not need to cycle on/off, but doing so won't hurt you either. I have been taking it w/ l-glutamine, and CLA and have made really good progress, I feel it got me over my plateau. hope this helps.

Body for Life Forum Message by kitwhit (65 posts) at 10:03 AM:
What's you BF change? Remember you are building heavy muscles! 4 weeks in this has finally gotten through to me - this whole thing (BFL) has only a very little to do with scale weight. And if you are exercising 6-7 times a week for 45 minutes a day could you be overdoing it? 45 minutes is the time it takes to do a weight work out and this should only be 3 times a week. The cardio is only 20 minutes a day 3 days a week. And of course you should not be doing anything on the free day.

I am HAPPY today. What a change. I just finished 2nd week. Lost 19 inches total. Only lost 2lbs, but this next week hope good results. I sure my lose is because of so much weight. The smaller ladies probably have to work hard because the last 20-30lbs are always the hardest.

Hey All, I surpassed all expectations that I had for the first 4 weeks, things are going really well! I had a bit of emotional and physical challenges but have met them head on and broke through those walls! Thank you all so much for being there and helping me through that! I would not have been able to do it without your support and knowledge that you were there! Let's finish this thing off with a bang and get all the numbers in! Remember the easiest numbers to get are the bonus points for being on time! So even if you slipped up, this challenge is about overcoming adversity, admitting it and moving on! So get your final weeks numbers in! Love and Laughs everyone, and Remember to work hard in your next 4 weeks! Steve

It's tough to think about slip ups now, but decide TODAY what you will do if you have a loss of focus, decide who you will call, what you will think, what you will DO when you have a moment of weakness! We have a really Great Team on our hands here, and I think we are gonna take this Challenge, I can FEEL IT! And to make things REALLY EASY to add points to your total, GET those points in on time, Look at the differance in January teams, VERY CLOSE, close enough to have been decided on by getting the sheets in on time! So remember, 2 points per week to get your points in PER PERSON, will be close to 60 points for the CHALLENGE FOR THE ENTIRE TEAM! 60 POINTS!!! SO LET ME ASK AGAIN! ARE YOU READY!?!?

I am still working on my transformation, but a lot has changed. First off, I no longer have to lie to myself when I look into a mirror, a store window or any other reflective object. I am no longer shameful of my appearance or my weight. Although I am far from completing my transformation, I have journeyed far and, at least in my opinion, have been successful to this point. My clothing fits better and I do not have to shop at stores specializing in large man. I can even fit into an athletic cut. My attitude about myself has improved. I am proud of my fitness accomplishments and it shows in my walk, my posture and in the impression I present to others. I have also placed a greater importance on other people now. I am lucky enough to be asked health question by those wanting to transform their own lives. It warms me to know that people I know – those that had little or no confidence that I would or could successfully transform – now come to me for advise and motivation. I strengthens me knowing that I can reach out and help others improve their own bodies, minds and spirits. … and the sex is better!

She lost a ton of weight but then went back to the old thinking, stopped writing down what she was eating, and gained back 30 lb. In her article, she mentions that her uncle had diabetes and his skin slipped off. If that is not motivation, I don't know what is. It makes me so mad in this country how fat prone we are and we have this unrealistic standard of thiness. In other countries, they use real grown food, don't have fast food (they serve you on real plates), and people walk. That is why people in other countries eat so much but still say skinny.

I have been hard at it for two weeks and do see some change. Most of what I see is in my stomach and I was wandering if anyone seen any differences any where else? Thanks for the support guys.

Body for Life Forum Message by SupaFreak (1048 posts) at 02:53 PM: Indiana BFLers Update
I've received a lot of responses for an Indiana BFL meet up. I have a very hectic February coming up, so I'm thinking early March. This would give us all time to schedule it in advance so we can all make it. Please post here if you can come to the Indianapolis area on a Saturday in March. If you know certain days that you are not available, post them here so we can get a good idea of what works best for the majority. If you live far away, please post your location. I know there are several of you in Southern Indiana. Perhaps you could carpool? I know that I can get us all into my gym for a free workout together. There's also a couple of healthy places to eat in the area too. Please post your availability and any suggestions for specific dates. Thanks, Danielle

Hey all my MO buddies! Everyone is talking about a meet up between the bfl'ers from other states, and I thought we could do the same.

I know in Springfield, Mo, Jerry Braam holds i believe a monthly meeting there. I think it would be really neat if we could get alot of trackers to go there in the coming weeks. what do u think?

Wouldn't it be wonderful to be able to buy a pill that gives you amazing motivation as soon as you have it? I love the feeling when I am focused, highly motivated and totally on track. Has anybody felt the absolute high that a workout can give you? You can hardly believe that suddenly a week of not doing it would set you back so much. I really need that motivation pill and it is only available on this site. BFL has become a way of life for me rather than a 12 week challenge. I am still going to fall off the wagon because I'm not perfect but you guys always put me back on track! Thank you! Crucky xx

Body for Life Forum Message by akladydi (22 posts) at 05:02 PM:
Here is your motivation pill. None of us are perfect. What we have achieved thus far is more than we had when we started. I do miss working out when I miss a day. I am amazed at that as I was a couch potato. Refocus on the end goal. Pick yourself up and keep going. I know that you can do this. I am proof that anything is possible. Tomorrow is another day. Take care Diane

I read some things here and there about clubs and support meetings... how do you find a local "Club".. or are these online clubs? I would love to maybe meet people in my area and possibly workout with other BFL'ers.... but online support is great also!! Can anyone suggest something on this matter? : )

HELP!!!! I need inspiration. I fell off of the boat 2 weeks ago and need help swimming to shore. I really don't want to drown this time, but need some inspiration. Tfirst 4 weeks were good, lost 8 pounds, but never could get my exercises in. I have been floating for 2 weeks now--- no weight gain, nor no loss. Someone, PLEASE give me inspiration and words to live by. I still want to finish this challenge and meet my goal.

Body for Life Forum Message by Kerry (1152 posts) at 08:53 PM:
Hang in there.... dvd's coming soon, you are now 1st up on the list and the 2nd set should be on the way in a week or so, I'll keep you posted. Get inspiration where ever you find it... Julie Whitt, or any of the good folk on tracker... maybe a picture of what you want to look like when you are finished...anything! The bottom line is you have to USE that motivation. It is the MIND which does BFL before, during and after more than any other factor. I just have a compelling image, which will not go away, as to how I will look and feel when I am finished.... it is so clear and strong, it pulls me like a magnet, and I can't help but go along for the ride :) Yours in Health, Kerry

Visualize yourself the way you want to be, and then hold that vision in your mind until you have accomplished your goals!! Don't let life events be an excuse not to do it!!! Make it a priority in your life!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! I Know You Can!!! Now get out there and do it, No Excuses!!! I wish you all the very best!!! Hugs, Sylvia aka Cookie1135

Is it ok to Colon Cleanse while you are in the middle of your BFL transformation, or will you be losing vital nutrients that you are intaking for your body to transform?

Body for Life Forum Message by chefmikeyd (20 posts) at 09:57 PM:
I am concerned about losing vitamins, protein, etc. All the good stuff you consume on the BFL program that may in result slow down progress on the plan.

Body for Life Forum Message by drjlbaileyii (474 posts) at 10:29 PM:
You should be fine.. Most recommend a series of 3-5 over a 2 week period. Anymore than that and it risks severly disrupting the GI flora and causing other issues..but it should be fine....JB

Body for Life Forum Message by Rie (526 posts) at 11:00 PM:
I said on the other thread Cheif that it says your insides become so coated that youre not absorbing nutrients at ALL- thats part of the benefit, it cleans to the walls of the bowels so nutrients can better be absorbed...one lady on the site talked about how she found undigested vitamin apsules in her waste- like they werent being affected by her system at all...and its not like having the runs...its very natural...

well, I have looked forward to posting these all week...and then once they're taken and posted, I don't feel they show the progress I've felt all week. does anyone else feel like this with their pics??? my clothes are fitting looser and I don't have that overhang in the back anymore...but shoot, I don't see as much difference... 2 more months to get that lean bod!! go, go, go!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by Emeril (17 posts) at 10:44 PM:
YES,I know that feeling! I have been studying my pics over and over and see little difference...I know I feel different, and my clothes fit different, and a few people have asked me if I am working out, but I see little difference in the pics, if any... I honestly can say I DO see a difference with your pics...your stomach looks more toned on the front view and there is a little less handle to love on the back view...great job, keep up the good work!! Everywhere I read says the dramatic changes come after week 8...lets stick it out, and see what happens, ok? Emeril

I see it in your stomach area and your hips, which look more toned. But the place I noticed the most this time is your face especially under the chin. Your face is looking thinner. Wow, another eight weeks to go and I bet you surpass your goals.

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1279 posts) at 11:27 AM:
I have had to work to get up to these weights: Chest Press: 35 lb DB's Shoulder press: 30 lb DB's DB Flys: 25 lbs Biceps: 15 lb DB 35 lb BB Tricep Pushdowns machine: 100 lbs Tricep cable machine: 60 lbs Lat Rows: 100 lbs Lat pull downs: 100 lbs Lat pull Overs: 85 lbs Leg extensions: 210 lbs Leg Curls: 95 lbs Deadlifts: 145 lbs Front Squats: 90 lbs Leg Press 380- 400lbs Now with that being said it has taken me time to get to this point. I assure you I was not even lifting close to this when I started! I think Taylor said it perfect! If what you are doing now challenges you then it is your heavy weight. I just wanted to show you what you can work up too and that it is possible to move up. Happy lifting! Work hard, workout even HARDER! -T

Body for Life Forum Message by goingforbuff (1599 posts) at 02:10 PM:
On your weight high point (6 reps), you should be going to failure within 4-6 reps. If you can do 7 or more at that weight, time to move it up. If you can only do 1 or 2 at the weight, it is probably too heavy following the BFL program to a "T". The thing to remember here is that the first 2-3 sets are "warm-up" and getting the muscle ready for the last sets. If you are really feeling challenged in your high points (at the 6 rep level and the last 2 sets), coming to temporary muscle failure, then you are at the right level for you at this time. If not, it might be time to add some weight or try a different method (i.e., someone mentioned the inclined bicep curls - this would be a good way to add some challenge if you have just been doing a standing bicep curl). Always challenge yourself and you will see progress!
