This is my .02 LOL To make sure i get my water in, I fill up a gallon each nite, and the next day, whenever my bottle or glass gets empty, I refill from the jug in the fridge. Not only does this help get in the gallon a day, but it also is nice getting cold water and not luke warm out of the tap! xoxo karen

I'm thinking about buying the RTD shakes. How are the cappuccino shakes? What are your favorites?

I like the Cappuccino, Chocolate and Vanilla the best. I usually purchase in the RTD format because of full time working, gym time and two small kiddos at home.

Body for Life Forum Message by eviltwin (1 posts) at 09:31 AM: Working Out with Your Partner
I've started my second challenge, this time with my girlfriend. We have completely different builds and our weights are on 2 ends of the scale. I like working out with a partner and will continue this program with her. What steps would you take to make sure your getting the most out of your workout? Sometimes I may push her way too hard not realizing the strength difference between us, plus I'm not sure I'm pushing myself to my limit either for the same reason.

Body for Life Forum Message by anavywife (186 posts) at 01:55 PM:
I work out with my husband but not necessarily on the same exact things. I usually do what I need to do and spot him when he needs me and he does the same for me. This works for us because we are also 2 dif builds and have dif goals. We found it really hard to stay motivated when we were doing the same things. He needs screaming hard core motivation, while I just need someone to tell me to grab a heavier set of DB's! I dont know if I have helped any, but good luck! Crystal

My husband and I "GO" to the gym together----in the same vehicle----that's where it ends. We have a different idea of working out. I like to get to the gym and get my workout done----I don't really require motivation from another during my workout----I tend to be very focused, I don't stand around chit-chatting with others in the gym, etc.

Thread: Boca Burger for protien?? (37 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Kelly (6 posts) at 04:00 PM: Boca Burger for protien??
I was wondering if anyone else uses boca burgers (soy burger) for a source of protien? For 1 it has 100 cal 8g carbs, 18g protien. I know it isn't "authorized" but was wondering if this would pass?? Also, how many calories a day are we supposed to be taking in? I am 138 and follow the BFL program. Weights 3x, cardio 3x...sometimes a little extra cardio. I'm not dropping weight as fast as I'd like and was wondering if this could be why. Any info is appreciated!

Oh yes! I eat Boca Burgers all of the time....whether its on a whole wheat bun, english muffin or sometimes I eat a patty for breakfast when Im at work. They are good...and for more protein I add a piece of ff cheese melted on top...yummy!

Thread: Another Boobie Thread… Lifting Heavy Question (80 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Miss Fit (365 posts) at 07:24 PM: Another Boobie Thread… Lifting Heavy Question

Most of us ladies love what BFL does for our bodies with the exception of the shrinkage of our ta-ta’s.  Though never “perfect,” I’ve always liked my chest but it’s now gotten so deflated that I’m starting to feel very self-conscious and embarrassed…  I’d like to find a non-surgical method to improve the appearance and thought I read something a while back about doing “heavy chest presses.”  In fact, I think the Stone Oak said he worked his way up to a D cup…?   Not that I have any grand illusions of working my way up to a D cup myself, but I’m desperate for any improvement.

I’m embarrassed to say this, but I don’t really know what “lifting heavy” means.  Each time I weight train, I max out with my heaviest weight (BFL style).  Could someone help me understand how to do “heavy” chest presses?  Or, the specifics of “lifting heavy” in general?

Thanks in advance!

Rachel

Body for Life Forum Message by jamber (991 posts) at 08:14 PM:
I'm not really sure what you mean by heavy, but this is what I am doing. I decided I need a goal, so I told my dad I wanted to bench 100 lbs. He put me through some benching exercises and he swears if I do them for a month I'll get in there and pop up 120 without breaking a sweat. First I warm up really good, full body and rotator cuff. Then with 70 pounds with the barbell I do... 3 sets of 5 position presses. (you hit 5 points on the way down to the chest and then push up) 3 sets of 10 count hold downs (you hold the bar 2 inches off your chest for a slow 10 count then do 5 quick reps) I do these for my chest exercise, then flys with 20's for my 12 rep set Then for shoulders I do close grip bench and pushups. This is how I plan to build up to heavy lifting on my chest. My main goal is to get a nice pectoral midline(not too manly though) or mabye even a faint "t" under my clavicle. Doing this I finally felt the burn and soreness clear under my boobs. That has to be good, right? :D Oh yeah, I use the rack that has the bar attatched to the rack with the safety hooks so I cant drop the whole thing on myself.. ;)

Body for Life Forum Message by Minka (32 posts) at 09:22 PM:
to shake up my routine, i will do a couple weeks of 'heavy' lifting. i will pick up the heaviest weight i can lift one time. then i will go to the next lowest weight and lift it as many times as i can (maybe its only twice, maybe 3 times), then i will drop to the next lowest, do the same..as many as i can.' when i get to 10 reps, i will start over. if you want to build more muscle in the chest, i would concentrate on inclines..it will help "pull up" what you have and give a great cleavage look

Body for Life Forum Message by Pixy (453 posts) at 09:29 PM:
Lifting heavy just means you hit failure with less reps. For example doing bench press at 80lb for 6 reps as apposed to 50lb at 15 reps.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther (327 posts) at 10:13 AM:
The main ingredient in betagen that helps you is the creatine. Creatine is the most tried and true supplement in bodybuilding. I have had great success with betagen but the same success with cell tech and phosphagen hp elite. the hmb supposedly helps with the muscle recovery but there are alot of options for that. Right now I am taking CellTech (carb control, Cytodine, Myoplex, Hydoroxycut and lots of vitamin C and I have seen more gains than ever in my 13 years of working out. No matter what you take you have to eat right, drink lots of water, get enough rest and hit your workouts hard and you will see results. Supplements are a secondary tool to get that extra push. Good luck.

I am entering measurements in the mybodycomp site, but that tends to be higher so of course I don't like it as well ;) So how is everyone doing this week? I'm doing well. I have started to keep track of calories in and out this week so that I make sure I'm making a large enough deficit. It also keeps my portions in check, which I seem to need reminding of once a month or so. Keep rocking, girls! Heather

I'm talking about cosmetic surgery in my post here...not reconstructive. I don't consider it to be the easy route when I think that women are beautiful the way they are and I get burned at the stake for it. It would be easy to just go along with the crowd and agree that you need to pay a doctor to change your body so you can be attractive, confident, or beautiful. I want to apologize on behalf of all men (blanket statement) for brain washing women to think they need big boobs to be sexy or attractive. Sorry for that ladies.

Oh good grief, Edward. If you think half of what we women do to fuss with our appearance has ANYTHING to do with what men think or what men like, then you need to remove your head from what Can'tStopMe wants to discuss next. Here's a wee bitty clue, since you seem in dire need of one: most of what we women do we do to please ourselves. And with that, Grasshopper, I'm done with this convo.

Body for Life Forum Message by Framed (137 posts) at 04:36 PM:
I think the interesting thing in this thread gone wild is that getintoned did not ask ANYONE what we thought of breast implants. She asked those who have been there/done that to give her some insight on what to expect post surgery. Even the discussions about how to have them and which ones are best are off topic. This lady knows what she wants and she is just doing some research to see what to expect. She got some good information from a few women who could share their experiences. Let's read the questions that are asked and support each other with INFORMATION when it is asked for . Let's not flood each other with our opinions, unless that is what the thread is searching for.

Wow! I just read this entire thread. Whew! Edward has been bold, hasn't he? LOL I can appreciate his opinion that for him real is better...but why hasn't he commented or apologized for the blanket statement that "Getting implants implies you are a weak person with low self esteem." I read that and thought "HOLY SHIT!!" Anyway...to the question: Getintoned: I do not have implants, however before I went back to med school I was a mammography tech for years. I've seen and touched more breasts of all shapes and sizes than any guy has ever DREAMED of seeing and touching. Like everyone has said here, the biggest thing is be sure to choose a well respected doctor with lots of experience. Recovery time varies between people but most do well and can return to normal activities between 6-8 weeks. You should be fine if you get them done in the near future to be riding your Harley (or whatever motorcycle you have) to Sturgis. I hear its a good time but have never been. Good Luck to you. This march when it's time for the next shot, I am going to talk to my doctor about something else. I Thought with the way I ate and worked out I could fight the weight gain side effect. I think I was wrong. My sister got off of it last year. For her it caused the onset of Osteoprosis. And yes I spotted for about 9 months then for the last 3 only got it once. then it went away... that part I liked lol.

I saw them and was intrigued, but picked up the package and it smelled just like bottled grape juice and not very natural so decided against it. I think the package I saw said the apples were infused with grape juice and not a hybrid fruit, but perhaps technology has actually created an apple that they claim tastes like a grape... I think I’ll just continue to buy my apples and grapes separately. Thanks for sharing your experience, Dana. =)

Funny, was thinking of posting something about this anyway. I've recently been downloading 2 hour mix shows from a website (www.freshlymixed.com). It is dedicated to the BBC radio 1 essential mixes and has all the best (and biggest) dj's in world playing 2 hour sets. There are over 1000 mixes on there dating back 12 years and the mixes are in many styles of music. Is mainly dance music, but numerous uptempo hip hop mixes, breakbeat, trip hop, etc. Also mixes by the likes of Kanye West on there. I download them and put them straight on my ipod and this basically keeps me going down the gym for ages (i've downloaded over 70 mixes. Thats 140hrs of music). Thats a lot of working out. If anyone is stuck on the same tracks and needs something new to inspire them, i'd definatly check this site out. Costs $2 per month for as many mixes as you wanna download. If anyone needs help finding specific mixes for certain genres, send me a message and i'll give you some help. Well worth it in my opinion. Chris

...And I am so excited! Just spur of the moment, one of the girls I work with does it during her lunch break and I decided to go with her! They did my "bronzer" at the lowest setting because I am extremely pale... I cant wait to see the results! Anyone else have this done?

I wondered if the spray booth stuff smells as bad as the stuff you buy in the drugstore....I love how it looks, but the smell keeps me from using it. Has anyone ever found a self-tanner (or spray booth tan) that does not have that "after" smell? I am very white too....

I got a gift certificate for tanning for a month for Christmas and they have the Mystic Tan at the place I go for only $19.99.....I want to try one too just for the heck of it. They did say to make sure you exfoliate before you do it or else it may streak after awhile or be blotching cause some dead skin may come off.

Body for Life Forum Message by Scattergold (122 posts) at 01:18 PM:
Oohh.. I didnt exfoliate... good thing this is my "experiment round" before I do it before our trip! I didnt exfoliate... and I also had make-up on (hey.. it WAS spur of the moment!) So I'll let you guys know how the results are... and also... how I smell this time tomorrow ;-) The spray tan booth I went to is $25 per session, $40 for 2 sessions.... and its a little bit of a nicer place.

Body for Life Forum Message by GetNFit (823 posts) at 01:29 PM:
Spray tans were really expensive when they 1st came out, around $45 a session. Here is SC most salons charge $25 per session, and the larger the session package the less expensive it is.

Ive never done it before but my best friend did...and trust me...she's as white as a ghost!!! It looked really good on her. It wasn't too orange, but it did steak a very tiny bit during the end.

Take pictures and let us see you!!!!!

I wrote a blog entry about a high school friend. Her death is now making headlines. I have been contacted by The Patriot Ledger, Date line NBC, and today the Boston Globe. I decided I was going to delete my entire to stop the phone calls. The more I thought about deleting the entire the more I don't want to. I don't know why I just don't want to get rid of it. Should I just delete it or deal with the calls till things settle down? I'm confused not sure what would be best. What would you do?

Pixy I looked at your blog, and saw the pics. What a beautiful person. If the phone calls are bothering you that much, then I would delete. Although, the information is already out there, and they will probably still be able to find your info. If there is anything that you could say in the phone calls that would honor her memory, maybe that would be the best road. I'm sure that people would like to hear more about the person, and that beautiful baby than the tragedy. I honestly don't know, I've never been through anything like this. I hope that things let up for you. DOn't forget to take care of yourself!!!

On the desert recipies... Wife made the carrot muffins from EFL but I didn't like them. Then she crumbed one and used it as a based for a cchockolate/banana pudding 1/2 crumbed muffin at the bottom of a ramakin. next layer 1/2 sliced banana. next layer sugar free chocolate mouse made with 75 ml skimmed milk with added whey protein. Now I am not usually a dessert person but these are great, have 2 or 3 a week and the programme is still working. Eat cheese as well but try to limit to 2/3 thin slices of low fat. Things may work faster without but I'm not after any prizes just trying to find a healthier way of life. Mark

Thread: How important is that mid morning meal? (70 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Crispywafers (8 posts) at 08:18 AM: How important is that mid morning meal?
I only ask how important it is because that mid-morning meal is almost impossible for me to do. When I work in the office it makes sense (eating breakfast at 7-8 and then a mid-morning at 10)...but when I work from home I am not getting up till 7, exercising, dressing, etc. and not even eating breakfast until 9-930. It seems silly to have a snack and hour or so later and then eat lunch an hour after that! Are the 3 snacks a MUST? I do always eat the mid-afternoon and most of the time the evening snack.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (339 posts) at 08:23 AM:
I think you're looking at this the wrong way... you shouldn't be eating an hour later. You should be eating every 2-3 hours, and yeah, that's pretty important. Have you read the books? The idea is that you are keeping your metabolism fueled throughout the day. So if your first meal is at 9:30, your next should be at around noon. Then 2:30, 5pm, 7:30 and 10pm. It's not about meals and snacks, they're ALL meals. If you haven't read the books, I highly recommed you do so. If you HAVE read the books, I recommend you read them again. :) Jess

Body for Life Forum Message by Crispywafers (8 posts) at 08:28 AM:
Hi Jess, I have read the books, and will reread. I did understand the point was to eat every 2-3 hours.. but he also stresses to eat 6 meals and I worried that NOT eating 6 meals in total through the day would make me miss the mark on calories/protein, etc. requirements (as I would be eating say only 4 meals (with his portions..instead of 6 with his portions)...less food overall...because I get up later. Perhaps I'm just over thinking it. ;o)

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (1293 posts) at 08:41 AM:
Here is the dealio..... Try to get all 6 meals in. Try to eat every 2.5-3 hours. Try to NEVER go beyond 4 hours without eating. I wake up late and I lately I only get 5 meals in. I am not staying up another 1.5 hours just to have a 6th meal. Though it is recommended if your not awake then well your not awake. Yes, re-read the book but if you can't get all 6 meals in then be sure you get in all 5. I just don't stay up late enough to get #6 anymore but if I do I know that i have a meal to consume. If I know I am going to be up super late (very rare) then I am going to have a 7th. So what I am saying is for the amount of time you are awake you should be eating every 2.5-3 hours. Most people are awake long enough to get 5 meals in. Hope that helps. Work hard, workout even HARDER! -T

Body for Life Forum Message by txgoofie (2 posts) at 08:42 AM:
Here is something that I do. Saturdays are the absolute worse for me as far as eating on schedule because I am not working and do not have the rigid structure I have during the rest of the week. So I go ahead and set my alarm for 6:30, stumble into the kitchen (usually stubbing a toe or two on the way), fix my first meal or shake, then head back to bed. It may not be the best way, but it keeps my on track. Just my $.02.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (339 posts) at 10:43 AM:

Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (58 posts) at 11:08 AM:
I can't get six in either. I don't like to eat right before I go to bed. I eat at 9, 11, work out at 12:30, eat at 1:30, 4, and 6:30-7. Sometimes I sneak a meal in at 9 but not always.

I used to drink a ton of Diet Coke daily, but quit cold turkey a few years ago when I started a challenge. I drink a ton of water now, I don;t keep track of how much because I am caonstantly drinking it. I also may have a few glasses if iced tea a day & try to have 1 or 2 cups of green tea. ~Tried To Amend My Carnivorous Habits~

I would guess about 80 oz. of water a day, a diet soda maybe three times a week, no tea. But I also drink about 1 cup of 1% milk every morning for breakfast. I grew up on a dairy farm..I can't give up my milk! ;) Kathy

The only liquids I have each day are a gallon of water and 2 cups of green tea. I had my first Diet Coke of this Challenge last night. Mostly because I was dead tired from my new cardio routine.

Is drinking Diet soda, bad for weightloss? I know about the Aspertame research, but weightloss.

Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (741 posts) at 09:18 AM:
I don't know whether it's bad for weight loss, but the way I view it, diet soda contributes absolutely nothing to my health. And right now, anything that isn't a contribution isn't going into my body. (Okay - fine - except for the chocolate yumminesses on Free Day. But that's a *different* kind of contribution!)

mostly water...about 100oz a day. Occasionaly a 12 oz diet coke....maybe 3 times a week. More on free day if I can stand it. I am finding I crave the water. The diet cokes don't taste as yummy as before. No tea.

Ok, the @#$** alarm goes off every morning at 5:15 and after a little grumbling I get up and go to the gym. I did this 26 times in January alone. I drink so much water and go to the bathroom so much at work everyone probably thinks I have a cocaine habit. I have sat at numerous meals and watch my friends eat burgers, fries, shakes, and sweets...while I eat my millionth grilled chicken salad. I'm hoping I'm not repeating any other thread. This site needs a forum search so you can see, but anyway .... my question is this, is tomato soup BFL friendly, assuming it's the low sodium 98% fat free kind? And if so, would it be considered a carb since tomatoes are a fruit or veggie depending on what you've been taught ;o)!

Body for Life Forum Message by Kela (147 posts) at 04:15 PM:
Hi Keaton....not sure about the soup but there is a link where you can do a forum search up at the top of the website...hope that helps!

carb, but check the nutritional label. Make sure the calorie to fat ratio isn't too high and that carbs and protein are in check. Guessing tomatoe soup is mostly carb and could count it as a veggie. Be careful with the sodium! and hidden sugar.

Body for Life Forum Message by BFL bride to be (53 posts) at 06:58 PM:
I do a very simple detox that I found in a natural health magazine twice a year. For a week, you eat 2 cups of millet, brown rice or some other whole grain (no oats though) for breakfast and up to 4 cups of various steamed veggies for both lunch and dinner. Drinks are green tea and water only. It feels pretty good once you get past the first couple days. I suggest talking to a natural health practitioner, maybe even an ayuvedic physician for a more personalized recommendation, though. Best of luck!

Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (58 posts) at 11:09 PM:
Stanley Borroughs master cleanser is an awesome cleanse. A lot of folks on the board talk about cleanses...the master cleanse does the same thing the natural way. Because you aren't eating, your body takes those enzymes you create naturally and starts cleaning out the plumbing. Technically, it's for 10 days, but I've done it for 5 in the past with amazing results.

I did swimming my last challenge...not yet on this one. I did this: For low-intensity, (sixes and sevens) I did breaststroke For higher intensity, I switched to freestyle Generally, I would do 2-3 laps of breastroke followed by 2-3 of freestyle, then 2 of breastroke followed by 3 of faster freestyel. It kicked my ass and my abs looked much beter once I started doing it.

Body for Life Forum Message by BGrego (18 posts) at 01:48 PM:
Hmm, sounds like a good work out. I think I might give that a try, and maybe modify it a little with 2-3 laps of freestyle for the 5,6,7,8 and hit my 9's and 10's with butterfly, to work my abs and shoulders. Now I just have to find a pool close to me.....

gee...i didn't know so many would be annoyed at someone for getting their workout in!! I totally agree with most of you - if there's one bench and one set of weights, by all means, be courteous to others - IF THEY'RE WAITING - for the bench and set of DB's and let someone else work in with you. If no one is waiting, then I see nothing wrong with completing your set. Maybe you can keep the weights that you're not readily using in a spot so someone else can use them too, when you're not? But, for me, because there are like at any time 3 open benches, and because there are at least 2-3 of each DB weights, I do take what I need for my UBWO. Like Hot Body, I also superset on each UB and LB workout, so it isn't practical for me to walk back and forth between sets. Dana-i love using the swiss ball for chest! You really do get an awesome 'pull' when doing flyes. Here's another dilemma...what about those who don't wipe off the benches when working up quite a sweat?? Boy, now that annoys me more than anything else!!

Thread: Creatine and fat loss? (200 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Edward (38 posts) at 09:13 AM:
Creatine is a great supplement that promotes fat loss and here is why...the more muscle you have, the more work it takes for your body to maintain it. Your body maintains this muscle by raising your metabolic rate which burns more calories. Metabolic rate is also known as metabolism. So in other words, the more muscle you have, the more calories your body will burn even while sleeping. And as you konw, creatine aids in building lean muscle. As 2005 BFL Champ Russ Pendergrass puts it, muscle is the furnace that burns fat. The bigger the furnace, the more it can burn. Lastly, you should take creatine on your free days as well. You want to keep your muscles saturated with it at all times. Enjoy

Body for Life Forum Message by Mucca500 (141 posts) at 09:33 AM:
question: do you guys take it before or after your workout? does it matter?

Body for Life Forum Message by koffea (11 posts) at 09:50 AM:
my doctor actually recommended that I take it, and I am trying to lose fat. I was told to seperate it out with each meal. mines still in mail so I havent taken it yet, but will be takeing a gram with each meal, and skip it for lunch. from what i understand, you need to take it often and consisistently to build up to your personal optimal amount that your body can hold. and then continue taking it until you decide to cycle off. Apparently your excrete it rather fast.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther (327 posts) at 10:26 AM:
The reason that you have not lost any weight is because you are gaining muscle mass and retaining water. You are probably losing body fat but creatine pulls water into your muscles and this is one reason that people will gain weight or stay the same. Also creatine can help you pack on lean muscle which as Ed said is very good because you will burn more fat. So stay on it but drink plenty of water and don't pay attention to the scale for a while.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther (327 posts) at 10:28 AM:
Mucca, I believe that most manufactures recommend that you supplement creatine a half hour to 45 minutes post workout. You should take it every day so your maintanance levels remain spiked.

Body for Life Forum Message by 3D (91 posts) at 12:14 PM:
I put it right into my post workout protein shake. If you use vanilla powder and orange betagen it tastes like an orange creamsicle! Yummy! Cardio days I take it with water right after workout and eat 30-60 min. later depending on how starving I am at that point!

I decided to cycle off the betagen and low and behold I was down 4 pounds after just three days. It was getting really hard for me to stay motivated after working so hard and not seeing any weight loss. I think it was good advice to stay away from the scale. What do you say? Can we stay away from the scale and trust that our diets, workouts, and creatine are reshaping our bodies with muscle and melting away the fat? How about not weighing in for four more weeks? If your up for the challenge, I'll join you! Heather

Body for Life Forum Message by Edward (38 posts) at 12:28 PM:
Yep, I agree with everyone here. I take creatine asap after weight training. Seize on that golden window of opportunity and get as much of it into your muscles as you can. So yes, drink it immediately follwing weight training. You gotta strike while the iron is hot. :)

Body for Life Forum Message by NormRebs (355 posts) at 12:28 PM:
Heather , the number one reason why women quit BFL is because they weigh themselves each and every day and don't see the weight loss and don't trust that the workout and diet is working. They usauly quit right before the weight starts coming off (6-7th week) Iknow because that has happened with my wife two times. Her clothes were fitting better but she didn't see enough weight loss and quit..each time it was around the 5th week.

Body for Life Forum Message by lapowell (135 posts) at 12:32 PM:

Find something about your body you like, like your calves, and focus on that. Thread: Queen Mucca and her loyal "Colon"-ists......... (447 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by ibmissy (13 posts) at 08:30 AM:
So this morning I started the colonix. I was so excited. I was debating on lighting a roll of TP to signify the plunge I was taking.(No, not plunger.) I took my parnil pills after my workout and as I was drinking the pills down I thought of the tentacle and double headed parasites that could be lurking in me. I managed to down the whole pint of water rather quickly. I waited the 15-20 minutes, all the while debating on what I was going to mix the fiber with. I was also trying to figure out where the bottom of my blender went.(I never did find it.) I decided on one of my EAS Advantage shakes. French Vanilla to be exact.(Someone said the fiber tasted like banana so I thought vanilla would be fitting.) I used a fork to stir the fiber into my shake. I took one swig and thought of the miralax I put in my of my patients milkshakes the other day...Thankfully the woman was a little confused, because there were a few gobs of fiber in hers..When I swallowed my first chunk(I really wish I found my blender) it wasn't horrible, but it would have tasted better smooth. I think its more of a texture thing with me. Anyway, I survived taking the fiber. It wasn't horrible. Lets hope nothing hits me tonight from 7pm-11pm. I work tonight. I will drink my tea after work. BTW does it need splenda or anything? I don't normally drink tea plain..or does it taste ok?

I mix the fiber with a shot of Ocean Spray Ruby Red pink grapefruit juice, and it is tasty/easy to get down. For some strange reason, they compliment each other. I did find that I am a 3/4 scoop fiber girl, or else I have the same effect Rie experienced. Now, for the pics on the site...I have not been so fortunate (or unfortunate?). But, that is not so say there haven't been some interesting sites. No marbles, however. I would never have thought I would actually be happy my sh*t stinks! Again, TMI? LMAO Good luck to all starting.

I think we all agree theres no such thing as TMI in this colony- Im still waiting and trying to down water- if you all hear a faint explosion- that would be me. Woot!- Dani Parker in the house! Tg- what do you teach?

Hey I want to contribute to the bowel report!!! I started the Colonix on Tuesday and the mornings are pretty fast and furious. Yesterday It hit me half way to work and I had to rush to the nearest bathroom. Have not found anything interesting, but things are very loose. Almost as bad as the prep for the colonoscopy last year. Maybe I am steeping the tea too long!? I'm hoping things settle down. I think I should have waited to start until the weekend, but once I saw that package I just had to open it and get going (literally)! Kathy

Oooh I'm soooo looking forward to give my results on this subject!!! Little background briefly: I am constipated. I have been constipated for as long as I can remember. The doctor asked me once if being on BFL, working out, drinking 4L of water and losing weight had helped the constipation. Of course not! I've tried Miralax, I've tried laxatives, I've tried eating fiber one cereal every day in quantities large enough to have any normal person shit themselves to death, I've tried Zelnorm, metamucil, flax, stool softeners...you name it, I've probably done it. Still, I have NEVER EVER been regular...EVER!!!! I'm always bloated by the end of the day and feel like my stomach is about to explode. So, with that said: my Colonix is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. YIPPEE!! I am hoping....PRAYING that this crap will help me do just that...CRAP! If I become regular due to this, I will find Mucca, Rie and whoever else it was that has been talking that product up and hug the stuffing out of you!! COME ON TOMORROW ALREADY!!! I WANNA CLEANSE!!! Remember, NEVER GIVE UP!! Suzanne

I'm sipping my Kleritea right now (this was day one) and I am hoping this helps me a lot. Can't be good to have all that sitting up in there.

HeyJami, I think your better off setting a bodyfat goal then a weight goal... I think it will be more effective in truly tracking your progress as well as prevent freakouts if the weight stays the same because your dropping fat but gaining muscle (and therefore stalling on scale losses). I like this one: http://www.n3diet.com/bodyfat.html If you can't give up watching via the scale... I would still also track the body fat. :)

When I started this challenge, I *swore* I wouldn't weigh myself everyday. After I did BFL for so long and got my weight exactly where I wanted, I weighed daily just to keep in check and make sure things weren't getting out of control (they did anyway!!) So, the first week I did fine. Only weighed on Sunday. But, now, I find myself weighing again everyday. I don't really care if I stay the same, as long as my measurements change, but I look for those number changes on that damned digital display. I'm weak, what can I say....my nurse at work smacks me everytime she sees me going for the scale. That hasn't helped! LOL I just wait until she's walked up front to get one of my patients, then I sneak up to it. Oh well.....I keep plugging along!! Teresa, good for you!!!! You are much stronger than I am!!! Keep the faith. Remember, NEVER GIVE UP!! Suzanne

Body for Life Forum Message by fitprincess (13 posts) at 07:53 AM:
Amen! I think that's one area that makes most people loose faith the fastest. Most people don't consider the fact the muscle weighs more than fat, so if they're eating right and exercising, the scale may not change, but their clothes are getting too big and their measurements are getting smaller. They mistakenly think that their program isn't working. I say ditch the scale!

i weighed myself one last time this morning, ya know just for kicks! and its at 175!! i felt like i was stuck at 176-177 for weeks and it FINALLY went down! so that is the last weight im recording until the end of my challenge. when i leave for work today the scale is going out to the shed! im just going to continue checking my measurements and bf%. i think your starting a revolution against the scale teresa! alexis

Because we are undergoing a massive whole house reno, and living in it while we do(horrible) the scale is shoved out of the way. I make an effort to pull it out on Saturday morning to wiegh, and then put it back in the corner it is shoved in. Because it isa such an effort, I have managed to not weigh everyday like I used to. I really like what you've written. I am doing the mini challenge this month.. and it was somewhat disheartening to see the numbers on the scale. I would rather track by measurements than the scale, but i'm committed to this mini challenge. Afterwards, I will not weigh on the scale anymore. My original plan (which I will stick with after this mini challenge) is to take measurements every 4 weeks and then weigh in on day 84. Keep up the great work. Remember, it's about PROGRESS, not perfection. Honor self promises. You can do this!!! SarahM

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther (327 posts) at 10:31 AM:
I think the scale is a good tool for those that don't get discouraged by it (usually men). It seems that women get very upset about weight and because this program is about body composition and a transformation then if the scale discourages you or brings you down stay away from it. Keep positive attitudes and good things will happen!

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (896 posts) at 01:34 PM:
Yes, SarahM, I did like the mini challenges. But the scale is not my friend and I do get discouraged by it. A week 0 and a week 12 weight is all I need. I will know when I am happy, regardless of what is on the scale. T

The answer I was looking for was Pablo Picasso. I did not know that the same quote is attributed to Anthony Robbins. hi everyone!

I dont really know where to begin so Im just going to begin...I havent been on tracker for a long time because I was focusing on prepping for my first bodybuilding contest in september. for anyone who has attempted this you know the stress can be too much for people who dont understand it. well, my wife and I had a big blowout about it and gave me an ultimanum (spelling)..either my family or the contest. so I guess that ends my competing dream..at least for right now. I felt so devistated about it that right now Im not sure what to do..I want to return to the gym but I almost think..whats the point? I was so inspired and so motivated to do this contest that at least from a fitness standpoint, thats all that I was working for. well, obviously I certaninly dont want to go back to being 350 plus pounds like I was 2 plus years ago when I did my real first bfl challenge but I feel like Im walking around without a purpose. I'm really looking for everyone on the tracker for a little advice and support...I really, really need this!

Just curious- why would you wife give you an ultimatum like that? Doesn't she want you to realize your dreams? I'm sorry. I hope you can find some other reasons to train, because you have had amazing results so far.

Body for Life Forum Message by fitprincess (13 posts) at 07:08 AM:
Gosh, this is a "tred lightly" subject. There must be a lot of resentment from your wife for her to give you an ultimatum like this. In marriage, you have to support your spouse, not restrain them. I think it is totally unfair for her to give you an ultimatum like that. She needs to look within herself to find the real reason she would try to sabbatoge (sp?) you like that. Is she in shape? Is she afraid you'll get to looking so good she would feel threatened? I think you definitely need to have a good talk with her. Try to find out her reasons for her request and work through them together. Tell her how important it is for you and tell her why. I'm sure in the end, she can't deny the fact that she would want the father of her child to be healthy and live to see his son grow up. Just my 2 cents, or maybe more like $1. Hope you can work it out.

That will provide focus and goals for you. Don't give up brother.

How many on here are doing BFL by the book? are you tracking calories and ratios or just doing the palm fist method? Its been a loooong time since I did it the p/f way

Body for Life Forum Message by zooman (386 posts) at 07:33 AM:
First of all TM listen to what Mr Muscle Head has to say, he knows what he's talking about. Until you hit your weight goals I personally think doing BFL by the book is the easiest way to go, it's easy to follow as you know and with the p/f method,I don't think it would be too obvious to your wife if she's also watching you eat. If you are doing calories and ratios, if at all possible take notes, and if you have computer access at work, enter your data at work. I do most of my fitday entering at work.Anyway I hope that helps, and by the way do you still have your blog?

Tigermuscle, I know exactly how you feel, my wife gave me the same ultimatum about Acting. She told me if I had to choose between my family and pursuing my acting career. I would have to move out if I wanted to continue. I love my family very much but I wish I would have called her bluff. I hate my job and dream about how it was when I was acting full time! You cannot let anyone crush your dreams!! I made the mistake of doing just that! So, I start doing local commercials, sending out feelers again and contacting old friends and directors I worked with before. Granted I am not going to quit my job just yet but if the right opportunity comes up I am going to go for it!!! I have re-invented myself and I am eager to introduce the new me to all my old friends in the industry.

I guess what I am saying is continue going for your dream and workout and see what happens. I know it sucks but keep your dream to yourself until it's time to announce it and show her that it can be done and have family time too!!

Body for Life Forum Message by Booloo (46 posts) at 07:59 AM:
Did your wife give specifics about what exactly bothered her about your training? Was it the time commitment, or something else? I know it's really hard to give up on a dream. But I also know that working out is another time commitment to a sometimes already busy schedule, and I can imagine prepping for a BB contest would be even more intense time-wise. Myself, I have to be a little careful with time allotted for working out, particularly in the evenings when we are all home. Too much and it takes away from the little time we all have together. I wholeheartedly agree with Muscle Head - don't give up working out!! You are doing so awesome, and will continue to make huge strides even not training for the contest. Heather

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (339 posts) at 08:06 AM:
Aw, man, I'm sorry you feel like you have to give up your dreams. I, too, wonder what it is that scares your wife about you competing. Maybe it's just that she doesn't understand... does she work out? Maybe your goal for now can be to help her do BFL, which would likely bring you closer and help her understand what it is you are trying to accomplish. Of course, I don't know your wife, and I don't know if she has any interest at all in BFL, but I can't help but think it would be a great "couple" thing to do together. At any rate, listen to the wise Muscle Head. :) He knows his stuff, and you are doing good things for YOU if you continue to work out. Maybe you could bea personal trainer? Jess

Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (385 posts) at 08:07 AM:
Heather, it wasnt so much the time spent training, but the "extreme" dieting it takes to lean out for a contest. In reality, it is vastly different from EFL..its the norm 12-4 weeks out to actually diet..and I think my low carb/high carb days were getting to her

Body for Life Forum Message by Dana D (591 posts) at 08:28 AM:
Tigermuscle...this needs to be about Y-O-U, not your wife. If being healthy is truly what you want, you can still lean out, be healthy and get into shape even if you dont have her support. Doing BFL by the book does not take THAT much time out of your life, and thats all ya need to do to have an awesome transformation. Its all about you Man. Like Julie said-If you say you Cant do it, its because you dont wanna do it. Bottom Line.

Body for Life Forum Message by nola (107 posts) at 09:13 AM:
Maybe break your goals down.... Instead of working towards the BIG goal of a contest, stick to working towards completing another challenge...of getting more fit and more healthy...one step at a time. If it leads to competing at some point, that's great. Even if it does not, you will be doing something fantastic for you and your family by becoming a healthier person. Sometimes trying TOO hard can make it too hard (on you and those around you), if that makes sense. Maybe your wife is not so bothered by your quest to be fit, but by the extreme efforts it takes to be a competitor. I agree with the other posters...get back into the gym regardless!

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (349 posts) at 09:28 AM:
So, let me get this straight....your wife is incredibly upset and gave you an ultimatum because of your diet, and not the time commitment? Excuse me, but that seems awfully petty. What difference does it make to her what you eat? Was she making your meals for you? If so, I can see how she might get tired of trying to be exact in carbs, proteins, counting calories, etc. because that is a pain. And, if you were on top of her, criticizing her, for how she was preparing meals, etc. I can understand how she might blow up. If you were the one making your own meals, I would not understand it, unless you were harping on what others were eating in the house because you beleive what they eat makes it too difficult for you to stay true, so in a sense you were forcing your diet on to others. Honestly, I think there is more to this story than what you have said so far. Like musclehead said, you can be fit and not be a competitor. I believe it is really difficult to go from not being in shape to being a competitor the 1st or two time out in losing weight, getting fit, etc. I think it would be better to successfully complete 2 - 3 challenges 1st, all 12 weeks, and see if you were eating and exercising between challenges (meaning better than before you started BFL) and then train for a competition. Remember, this is for LIFE! Are you sure you are not finding out this is way more difficult than what you dreamed it would be, and the initial excitment and desire has dropped some, and this is causing something else to go on between you & your wife? In otherwards, is this an excuse to drop out of BFL, or the challenges, because then you can say, "well, I had to stop BFL, I had to stay the way I am, because it was my marriage or my better health, etc." This kind of goes back to my thread about self-esteem. Think postive about your self, surround yourself with people who have similar ideals, and you will be successful. If there is someting deep inside of you that you do not like, some self-doubt somehwere, which to me equates to a lower self-eatseem level, then you are doomed to failure at BFL or any other diet and exercise program. Think, think, think....what is the core issue here right now? Keep at this because I know you can do this successfully. Any of us can do this successfully! Go, Go, GO!!

Body for Life Forum Message by BuckeyeBoy (105 posts) at 09:39 AM:
Don't know the whole story, but from the limited info you gave I would have a heart to heart sit-down with the wife. I thought a marriage was about supporting one another in individual dreams and in the dreams you have together. Perhaps you guys need to sit down and make some partner goals as well as individual goals. I don't know buddy. Just my 2 cents! Have a good day!

Body for Life Forum Message by Rie (555 posts) at 11:52 AM:
Not fair- We dont know anything about the situation at home.I remember Tiger, your trainer saying that it would take you a little longer to be ready for a BB competition ( given the normal competition you encounter at those events) but you were going to prove him wrong- thts admirable, but you yourself say that its all you were working for. Marriage IS about supporting one another-absolutely, but not at the expense of the family. Ask yourself ( and we dont know) if you were neglecting your #1 priority in your fervor to achieve this goal. I think its unfair to accuse her of not supporting your "dream" just by one side of the story- Sometimes as we get older, as hard as it is to accept, we have to modify the dreams we have as youngsters. I have finally realized that Im PROBABLY not going to be a rockstar and marry Elton John *stunned silence* like I thought at 15.I view my goals these days intrinsically, and know that doing things for their own sake is just as fufilling as the outwo
