Thread: What does everyone do when sick? (201 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Framed (164 posts) at 11:33 AM:
REST!!!! Your body is FIGHTING...really WORKING to get well. I did not listen to my body 2 years ago and continued to work out and went snowboarding and ended up with pleurisy for 3 months! It was horrible. You will take yourself out of the game for a longer period of time if you don't allow your body sufficient recovery time. You aren't being a slacker if you are paying attention to your body. If I feel sluggish from a night out and don't feel like I can workout...that's a different story. I make myself TRY to see how much I can do and I always get through it. But if you are SICK, you must do your best to give your body a chance to recover. Eat clean (and use the most nutritious foods you can), drink your water and rest.

This is cool! I work from home,(mainly so I can be there for my two girls) for the past 17 years I have done architectural illustrations for builders. Just recently my mom decided she wants to retire and give me her real estate appraisal business so I have been taking my classes, exams and working with her. Same hours, better pay, who would turn that down???! I also retrain horses for the hunt field, although this has been slowing down.

So, in March 2005, I did so. I am a licensed nail technician/manicurist and also co-owner of our beauty shop, Sister Act Salon. This allows me alot of free time with my 1 yr old son, my hubby of 7 yrs and I can make my own hours with my clients. Not a huge money maker, but I really enjoy the free time with the family!

Don't worry I won't turn you guys into my research subjects without your "informed consent". I am here to do something good for others and to get support in my own personal journey. Long term, I plan on doing research and program evaluations related to obesity and, if the opportunity presents itself, community development.

Happy Thursday, guys! I'm doing ok. Not as well as last week, but hanging in there. I am cramming for a big bio test tomorrow night, and it's throwing me off a bit as far as workouts go. But I'm getting them in, just not as much extra cardio. Eating has been harder this week. It seems like it goes like that sometimes, one week easier and the next more challenging. I SO want another 2 lbs one on Sat... if that isn't motivation, I don't know what is. Hope you are all kicking some bootay this week!! Heath

I'm up like 5 lbs so far this week and its NOT TOM. I've had some pretty awesome workouts this week though. Changed deadlifts to lunges and boy does my ass hurt today. YAY! Haven't felt the soreness in some time! Sorry to let anyone down with 2 days of cheating this week. I'm having trouble between lunch and my snack. I'm not sure why. I eat a fairly good lunch: 4oz grilled chix, 1/2 cup brown rice and 1 cup veggies. But then around 2pm, I'm craving food. Snack isn't due until 330pm. Grrrr, I'll be perfect next week....I promise!!! Hey I almost caught you. I went anaerobic for a few minutes and backed off my speed. I told myself I couldn't do it and coasted a few min. But then I figured I was there mine as well do it up. So, I hit it hard and your lucky this treadmill only went to 9.5(i hate that) I made it 2.92 miles even after backing off. I think my face is still red.

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (553 posts) at 03:16 PM:
WOW thats impressive given your treadmill limitations.... mine only goes up to 10.0. We better watch out for sixpack and his fastass treadmill. You must have been running over 9.0 for the whole 20 minutes????

I was around 8.5-9.5. Then backed off to 7.6, but had already done 1 1/2 miles. So I pushed it up and stayed around 8.5 then 9.5. I varied a little not sure how many min. I was in each one.

I'm on a similar boat.... in just over a week I'm off to London and then on to Paris... I've promised myself I will enjoy the trip and eat what I like (I'm a BIG foodie, but know how to control portion sizes)... I was devestated over the weekend when my bf and I went out to a nice French restaurant, and I had a cheat meal of lamb porterhouse, goat cheese salad (BIG hunk of goat cheese), and bananas foster. I had THE worst stomach ache that night, sooo worried I will get sick with everything I try to enjoy while overseas... so much so that I've started reintroducing some "unhealthy" stuff (like goat cheese in my salads, blueberry muffins... no burgers or anything) into my diet to get my digestive system used to it again! This of course is probably throwing a wrench into my weight loss (which wasnt moving anyways!) Then a month after we return home, my boyfriends mom from the UK will be staying with us for a month! She will more than likely be cooking our dinners and there is no way I'm going to ask her to fix me something different... or eat something else (thats just rude!) I've come to the conclusion that my *real* challenge is going to have to wait til May! =(

I have yet to find one I like. Whenevre I buy M & F or Ms Fitness they are expensive and seem to be more full of ads than anything else. I am dissapointed every time. I learn more from the internet. I do subscribe to Runner's World- its great for both beginner distance runners and veterans. But they definately have a different take on eating and weight training than BFL.

I am still reading and refering back to my old Muscle Media's there is a wealth of information in those magazines. I saw that you can buy a disk with all of the magazines on it or something to that effect on the BFL web site. So far I haven't found another fitness magazine that I like, as everyone else has already said most of them are more ads than content wich sucks when you need some info.

I like Ironman. As you can tell by its title, it caters to men, but it has good information in it. Lots of good workout routines and ideas for the folks that have been working out for years and are getting dry as far as new routines go. I have the Muscle Media CD ROM, it was sent to me by EAS as part of a finalist package 2 or 3 years ago and it's great for looking up things. It comes in 2 CDs, and the later one is searchable. The early issues are not. EAS may still have some or they can be found elsewhere too. They ARE pricey, though.

It is interesting that so many people miss Energy and Muscle Media, yet the primary reason they discontinued it was due to lack of regular subscriptions and readership. I think what happens is people picked them up like they do fitness, off and on. Over on the guestbook, about every week or so someone comes on and says "what happened to Muscle Media?" It was last published over two years ago!

Thread: What BFL has taught us about goals... (3 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Spec V Me (33 posts) at 11:26 PM: What BFL has taught us about goals...
I think the one of the most overlooked components of BFL is the goal setting component. Most people never set goals, most people travel through life like a ship on the seas with no rudder. It is what causes most people to end up dead broke on social security wondering what, if anything, they accomplished with their lives. They amble aimlessly through life and end up wherever the current takes them. BFL, whether you know it or not, forces us to set goals and incorporates accountibility. The successful people in life set goals for themselves. The truly successful write them down and give them deadlines and think about the steps it is going to take to accomplish their goals. Everyone here wants something, to have the body of their dreams. Bill Philips provides the deadlines and the steps. We, in turn, provide the hard work. For anyone that has accomplished the 12 weeks, or better yet, achieved 6% bodyfat for men or 12% bodyfat for women, you have to know something. You can do anything! Want a million bucks? Write it down, give it a accomplish by date, and figure the steps to achieve it. Then apply the work and walla, there it is!(obviously the hard part is figuring the steps!)! While almost all of us can't figure the steps straight to a million dollars we can improve our lives. Start small, are you in a rut? Dead end job? Think of something that you are good at and try to get move in that direction. Let's say that you work in a factory or you drive a fork lift and make a meager salary, but you love to talk to people. Do your research and find a job where you can be around lots of people doing what you like and making more money. Spend some time researching jobs you might like on the internet. If you find something you think that you like, focus on it and see if it is really what it is cracked up to be. If it is, set a goal to get that job, a date by which you will get it, and the steps it will take. For some of us the steps might mean schooling, others just a leap of faith, but do it! You only have one life to live. Life is like setting a goal to lift five exra pounds next week. First we have to have the goal, then we have to put the five extra pounds on the bar. Next week, when you lift it, you have accomplished your goal. For anyone who cares these are some of the goals I have set for myself in 2006: To add an addition to my house ( I have two kids and an 860 sq.ft. 2 bedroom, 1 bath house, I have gotten a loan and will be building the addition within the next 3 months. At the end I will have 1700Sq. Ft., a garage, a total of 3 beds and 2 baths.) To become a pilot. I have given myself 2 yrs to do it and will have my first lesson on Saturday. To get back into music. I will be the lead singer in a band with 2 of my bro-in-laws. We will play a set at a local bar by June. We have picked our set list and will begin practicing in the next month. I also want to start a business. I build my girls a bunk bed that looks like a miny Victorian house. After the addition I will use it as a sales piece and begin marketing them as "Sweet Dreams" bunk beds. Anyone interested, PM me. I will send you pics of the bed. Well, to some it up, anyone here can do anything in life. Just figure what it is that you want to do, write down the steps that you need to accomplish to get you there, and give yourself a deadline. Sometimes you will fail, but if you keep trying you will probably accomplish more in your lifetime than most people. Good luck! Mike

I was so hungry for dinner tonight, I ate way too much!! Any advice on how to help this from happening? I feel terrible now :(

Body for Life Forum Message by Janie (44 posts) at 07:39 PM:
Well, no easy answer hon- but I think we've all been there. I way I prevent that from happening again is my memory- I think good and hard about how crappy I feel when I do something like that and it helps me remember next time I hit the same trigger not to go there. I keep repeating a saying I saw once that has forever changed my thinking: "Discipline is remembering what you want." But you do have to make yourself "remember" the good and the bad. You'll feel better soon! :o)

Body for Life Forum Message by Crispywafers (27 posts) at 08:10 PM:
Don't beat yourself up too much. It happens and it isn't the end of the world... and it's not going to destroy any progress you made. I would take it as an opportunity to tweak the program and troubleshoot by taking a look at why you were so hungry for dinner: Did you miss your afternoon snack? Are you eating every 3 hours? Are your portions too small and you are not eating enough? Was your snack quality food and balanced (not carb heavy, etc)? The rule of thumb I hear is that if you are starving by your next meal you are not eating enough... if you are not hungry at all for your next meal you are eating too much. Take a look at your portions - you may be eating too little. Good luck!

Six weeks in and all of a sudden I want carbs. The first four or five weeks I never missed a thing. I didn't have any problem with six small meals, I didn't even care whether they were bland or tasty. It was all about fuel. But now all of a sudden my will power is deteriorating. I haven't necessarily gone overboard, I'm still losing weight, but I need to get that focus back. Does this happen to anyone else. What do you do?

Body for Life Forum Message by bubblz7 (161 posts) at 10:06 PM:
Wannabegreat, I think it happens to everyone. Step back and re-evaluate. Revisit your goals and your 'before' pictures. Remind yourself of why you are doing this and why you want to change your lifestyle. Change your food choices up a bit. Sometimes, eating the same things makes it harder to say no when we see something else. Make your favorite dish BFL style... Hope this helps some. Suzanne

I am still eating authorized foods and working out but if I eat a bit over the serving or one extra "mid-meal" so be it. I figure next week is another week and at least I am still doing something it's not like I have stuffed my face or anything. I am having my free day tomorrow though:) Plus I realize that my problem this week has been poor planning. If I plan ahead for my meals I tend to follow the plan without a schedule I get lost in work and so on. Plan Plan Plan. Good Luck!

I would suggest switching the exercises you are doing, and the order inwhich you are doing them..If you are using Dumbells, switch to a flat bench straight bar. if you are doing flat bench switch to incline, or even decline. On upper body days start with Biceps as opposed to chest, etc etc etc... There are so many exercises for each body part you can never run out. The best book I ever bought (besides BFL) was arnold's book the encyclopedia of body building, it shows EVERY exercise for EVERY body part you can imagine. You need to "shock" your muscles again and get them doing things they arent used to. Personally I would stick to the 12/10/8/6 routine.

I tend to go to the gym at the same time pretty much every day, as im sure most of us do,typically I see the same faces there, When the gym is busy, I will spot someone doing the same exercises as I want to do (say DB bench) and ask if they wouldn't mind working out with me, you would be surprised how many people are fine with this idea, I meet alot of friends, and you form a "you go, I go" routine, which typically works out to be about 1 min between sets, not to mention you can get a spot and get some help hitting that 10. Just a thought... and to answer the question I would be pissed if I saw someone hording weights and bench's.

same thing here, before BFL i used to weight train very regularly and had the shoulder crunch for years, especially doing military presses. It never injured.. just made noise. If you use a shoulder machine the bars usually have 2 "grips" you can use.. one would be palms facing out as if you were using dumbells, the other... palms facing each other. The palms facing each other tends to quiet the symphony in my shoulders ?? I have found that the slightest change in grip can make a huge difference...hope this helps

If you've got free day tomorrow then you should go for it, if not then don't. You might regret it tomorrow otherwise.

Body for Life Forum Message by fjcastro (20 posts) at 04:23 PM:
It depends on how you feel. Your body can use the shake up every once in a while so it doesn't become complacent. Plus, if you "like" your cycling class, don't miss it. If you do skip the cycling class, you are trading off a 60 minute high intensity workout for a 22 minute workout... you do the math.... :-)

FYI...

I was just informed this week (by Cam our travel agent) that the U.S. passport requirement deadline to travel with us to the Bahamas, has been pushed back a year.  So if you do not have one, it is not required... but is suggested, especially for women they have been married &/or divorced.

ok folks...day 3 of the 'process' and all I can say is...WOW!!! It really does work!!! Needless to say, I was a bit late leaving for work this morning. Last night, I was woken up around 1:30 a.m. with the most awful stomach PAIN, not only cramps, but the worst pain combined with cramps and gurgles...!! Has anyone else experienced this??? Seriously, I couldn't get back to sleep for hours!! I know my body takes a while to adjust to anything new I add (supplements or vitamins etc...) so I wasn't sure if this was common with others. Also, i didn't steep the tea bag for much longer than what was recommended for the first 5 days.

Body for Life Forum Message by bubblz7 (161 posts) at 09:59 PM:
Reenie, I had that the first night of drinking the tea. Then the next morning, I had NO results!!! But since then, I've been going every day, mostly twice daily, but a few times only once. I steeped the tea now for 7 minutes tonight...so hopefully it won't be too long. I also have been using 1 full scoop of fiber since day 1. Guess I'll up it to 1 1/2. I really dont have the pain anymore, just the first or second night. I have noticed I've gained weight since starting. Not sure if its from the colonix, but BB thought the same thing. I hope not!!! Remember, keep it moving. Suzanne

You follow the plan and your body will be the size it needs to be...and that nice toned firm size 8 will look smaller than a mushy flabby size 6 !!! Don't worry about the size thing I don't know about you but I don't wear my clothes inside out with the tag showing!!

I did not have that issue the next day, but if you are having trouble, try that, it might work.... Also, you can bypass the whole itunes thing if you just "right click" on the orange icon and select "Save Target As" and just save the show to your computer (I put mine on my desktop just so I can find it easily). I put the show on my mp3 player today and listened while I painted my hallway. I thought it was pretty good...can't wait to hear more shows. i am eating correctly! probably only 5 times a day though. I go to bed to early (9:00) and my last meal is at 6:00. I can see 40 min being to much cardio. i would feel the longer the cardio the better. I just got done doing Billy Banks ultimate boot camp this morning for 40 min

Body for Life Forum Message by Spec V Me (33 posts) at 06:15 AM:
Wrong on the longer the cardio the better. Reread the BFL chapter on excercise. You must must hit your 10's, that means being completely out of breath, almost gasping 4 times in that 20 minutes. It tricks your body into burning a lot more calories than it would doing some nice easy "cardio" for an hour or two.

Body for Life Forum Message by losingit (20 posts) at 07:08 AM:
I agree with Spec. If your doing 40 mins of cardio, I can't imagine your hitting your nines let alone your tens (unless you are super fit a have an amazing recovery rate). The way to hit a 9 is when you think you can't do anymore. The way to hit a 10 is when you can't do anymore. If you're hitting your 9's you shouldn't be able to do more than 25 mins of cardio. Chris

Body for Life Forum Message by cookie1135 (1588 posts) at 05:12 PM:
Stick with it, and you will see results!! Muscle takes up less space then fat, so you could weigh the same and still fit into smaller clothes!! You might be losing inches even if you are not losing weight!! It is also a good idea to keep track of your measurements and BF%. 1. Eat Clean 2. Don't Cheat 3. Don't Miss Workouts 4. Hit Your 10's 5. Set Goals, Write Them Down, Read Them Everyday, Add New Goals As Needed 6. Never Give Up 7. Visualize Yourself The Way You Want To Be! Hold That Vision Until You Have Reached Your Goals!! We Become What We Believe!!! Believe that you are a success and you will become a success!!! 8. GIVE IT YOUR ALL!!!!! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Soccermom said: what is HIIT 20 min cardio? Ummm...have you read the book?

Body for Life Forum Message by Spec V Me (33 posts) at 05:28 PM:
HIIT 20 Min cardio is also known as intervals. Imagine if you could rate exertion on a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being laying in bed doing nothing, 5 being a brisk walk, and 10 running for your life. You start exerting yourself to 5 for 2 minutes, then up it to 6 for a minute, then 7, 8, and 9. By the time you hit the nine, on the 5th minute, you will be out of breath. Reduce it back to 5 and repeat 3 more times, the third time, after level 9 you give it your all for the next minute, a 10. Then a minute or two of cool down. If you are having trouble imagining what I am talking about, imagine all the numbers as if they were mile an hour numbers on a treadmill.

Soccermom- Don't give up. Like some of the others said- make sure you are eating enough calories each day. The first time I did BFL years ago my husband helped me with a meal plan. I cut calories from the plan thinking it would help me lose faster. All I did was kill my metabolism. He could tell BFL wasn't working like it should (since he had started a successful BB track with it). When he found out I wasn't eating enough he got on my case a little bit.. : ) Anyway- if you are working out as you are, you need fuel! There are lots of resources to check calories, send me a PM if you need more info. I know BFL is about portions- just be careful what you have portions of. Stay Strong! Keep going- it does work, during the 12 week challenge and over the long term. Ann

Body for Life Forum Message by sixpack (116 posts) at 09:48 PM:
From the looks of your mesurements you don't have that much to lose anyway. When you are closer to your goal it is going to be harder to see progress. Someone like me is going to have a big melt down of the weight becasue I have it to lose. You need another measurement beside scale and inches maybe bodyfat % or pictures. However if you think that you will be better off doing what you did before then by all means. I encourage you to stay the course.

Body for Life Forum Message by bubblz7 (161 posts) at 07:44 AM:
OK, so blood pressure issues. Hmmmm, well its only too low if it causes you problems. My blood pressure runs 94/52. Thats just how it is, has always been, and will most likely stay. Doesnt mean I have some serious circulation problem, or have some underlying disease state. I am a healthy 38 (ouch that pains to say the number) year old female. I don't jump on the bandwagon and prescribe my patients blood pressure medicines right away. I stress the importance of diet and exercise first. If they don't change, and their blood pressure is significantly elevated, then yes, they go on a medicine. OR if their blood pressure was high enough initially for concern, I'd start them on a BP med, tell them diet and exercise, and *if* they did that and lost weight, we could try them off the medicine. Not all health care providers are quick Rx writers. Some of us do try the healthy approach first. Problem is, as most all of you know, the patient has to go home and do what you've asked and more than 70% don't do it. They'd rather take a pill than try to fix it themselves. Anyway, that was a tangent..sorry! Rod, congrats on your lower blood pressure and what will be, I'm sure awesome cholesterol results!!!! Keep up the amazing job. Remember, NEVER GIVE UP!! Suzanne

I read about that woman too. I've mentioned before that I have crappy sleep patterns; I'm back to 3 or 4 hours a night & sometimes get an hour nap in the afternoon. After awhile this starts to really catch up with you; I really notice it in my face, shitty attitude and zombie like state. I envy you people that can get 6 - 8 hours.

Could always go polyphasic. My co-worker was polyphasically sleeping for a couple weekends until his wife made him quit because they didn't actually sleep through the night together. Surprisingly he functioned quite well (I couldn't tell any difference except during the first week) on about three hours of sleep a day. I'm planning on trying it out after this challenge (don't want to mess anything up). Read more at http://www.stevepavlina.com/blog/2005/10/polyphasic-sleep/ -Jeff

sleep is tough. I also work nights and I find I need more rest with working out.I usually have one or two days a week that I crash for 10 hours to make up for lack of sleep during the week. Also very hard to fit in the 6 meals since I usually sleep twice a day,a few hours in the morning when I get home and a few hours in the evening before I go in.

Body for Life Forum Message by ICU_RN (888 posts) at 05:20 AM:
I work 7pm to 7am (I'm an RN as well) and usually get home around 8:30am. I sleep from around 9am until 3pm. I've tried sleeping later, but I feel groggy when I wake up. So I average about 6 hours a day. I'm one of those weirdos who sleep really well during daylight hours and LOVE to be up at night (as you can tell from the time of this post...it's 3:18am here). I have been asked if I would like to work day shift and my answer is always "hell no!"....LOL! The idea of getting up at 4:30am to leave for work at 6am does NOT appeal to me in the slightest. Yes, I would probably have more "regular" hours in life, but I would be miserable! Melanie = )

I work rotating days/nites. On day shift I am up at 4AM leave for work at 5AM and get home at 6:30 PM. Shower, eat, relax and to be by 8:45. When I am on nites and have a day off I go right into day routine but have trouble sleeping all nite, wake up constantly. Good that I can workout at work. Nobody understands rotating day to night and back unless they've done it. Jim.

AS a police officer currently working midnights with a 4 night in, 2 night off schedule, I go to the gym on my way home, then eat shower, & sleep for a bout 4-5 hours. I usually feel good with that but sometimes I'll take an hour or so nap before going back into work. But on my nights off -catch up time- I can sleep 10-12 hours. It is now almost time to go to sleep... ~Tried To Amend My Carnivorous Habits~

As a mom to a new baby, I sleep in 2 hour increments. I try to go to sleep at 11pm and then the rest of the night is usually a fog of feeding and burping etc... I get up at 7:30 to get the rest of the kids off to school. I plan to catch up on my sleep when my little sweetie is older!

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (736 posts) at 09:07 AM:
these days it really depends on whether I use a sleep aid (Tylenol PM or Excedrin PM) or not. some nights (without it) I can get 4 hours.....usually out around 10:00 p.m. and awake around 3:00 a.m. with my sleep aid I can get as much as 8 hours......I really don't LIKE using it BUT, after a couple of weeks of getting 3, 4 or MAYBE 5 hours....I can't function without a couple of nights of decent sleep time.

Body for Life Forum Message by nola (126 posts) at 09:20 AM:
I need 8, but usually get more like 6.5 or 7. My husband exists just fine on 6 and thinks I whine too much about needing more sleep. I have a 19 month old who just recently started sleeping through the night, and before that his sister had night terrors for about 6 months....I have a lot of sleeping to catch up on! If it fits better in your schedule, and allows you to get more sleep, you CAN work out sometime other than first thing in the a.m. (if that's what will cause you to get less sleep...I could be wrong). I know first thing int he a.m. is ideal, and that's what I prefer too, but right now I'd have to wake at 4:00 a.m. to accomplish that, shower and get dressed and then get everyone to school and I'm just not willing to give up the sleep I do get right now.

Body for Life Forum Message by SarahM (37 posts) at 11:49 AM:
I get about 7-8, but I need 8 to do good throughout the day... It's very important to get adequate sleep because that's the time when YOUR BODY IS REPAIRING itself! I've been slacking on getting to bed at the 'designated time' I had set for myself. CONSISTENCY is key. I found out that coming back from visiting family in N. Cali left me staying up late (what a horrible schedule). Once starting BFL I had to force myself to get up much earlier. It took time, but I got my schedule switched around. Your body gets used to it. Gonna make sure I clean up my schedule so I set myself up for success. Remember to honor self promises. It's about PROGRESS, not perfection. Proper planning prevents poor performance. Continue on BFLers, you can do this!

Agent - do those really work? I've always taken gravol, tried some that the doctor gave me (only 4) and like clockwork was up? If I was to try one the tylenol PM or Excedrin which would you recommend???

Body for Life Forum Message by nola (126 posts) at 03:38 PM:
Flower, I'm not Agent, but I have tried Tylenol PM and they work great. It's just Benedryl and Tylenol. I can only take 1 (normal dose is 2 tablets) or I wake up with a hangover. It's worth a shot if you're not getting enough sleep....

Body for Life Forum Message by Lani (35 posts) at 03:42 PM:
I usually get about 7 hours a night. Before I was staying up late and getting up early but I found myself yawning at my desk all too often. So I made it a goal to go to bed earlier and get lots of sleep. I'm usually in bed by 10 or 11pm and I'm up at 5:45am.

not alot....work, school, 2 children (single parent). I lay down with them at 8pm, might take a few winks, then back up until 12pm or 1am to do school work. Up at 5:30 to get ready. I don't work out in the mornings. Far too much for me at this point. I would have to be up at 4am and out WITH the kids at 6am. Can't do this to the kids. Not fair to them. So what was that on sleep? 5 hours? maybe. Sometimes I crash when I lay down with the kids and get a good 9 hours or so. Maybe once or twice a week.... On weekend though, I ALWAYS take a nap with the kids. Helps with the fatigue. I think this is why my weight loss is slow. That and this week I haven't eaten EFL at all and missed 3 work outs. (had the flu...still recovering, however the eating is coming back and I am making bad choices)....anyway......

She could easily be a drunk junkie if allowed, but no access to drugs (kind of a joke about the junkie--read through the lines here).....anyway...loves the Tylenol PM, but refuses to buy it anymore. You really gotta give yourself 8 hours to sleep when taking that stuff though..

well, its been 4 weeks and the results are O.K. I did my best with a demanding schedule.Missed four workout days so far, both cardio and weightlifting. The bad thing is that when I miss my workout,I usually also mess up on the diet. But I'm in much better shape than 4 weeks ago.I lost about 6 lbs. and my muscles are pumped.Cant see much of a difference in mirror, but I've gone down from a 44 pants to a 40/42 inch waist. Not too bad,not spectacular. Its really hard to do this working nights and o.t.,but I want to get in shape and lose weight,it just may take me a little longer.I love the way it feels when my muscles are tight! Next week away to Boston for training.I'll be eating out lunch and dinner every day, paid for by my company.REAL temptation! However,I'll have a stove in my hotel room,so I can cook my own breakfast. Also I looked up several bally's gyms in the area.If I come home the same weight that I leave at I'll be happy. If I lose weight, even better but unlikely.I just find it hard to go out to dinner with a bunch of coworkers and order a salad while everyone else is piggin out for free!

Hey Ray- (Couldn't resist the rhyme.) When I did my original BFL I was in a job where I traveled all the time. It's easy to rationalize the company paying for my meals. I wanted to use that so badly for my 'reason' not to be successful. Instead, I found the high road- not sure how or where, but it was there. Instead of eating out I bought the meal replacement shakes and bars took them along and expensed them instead of the restaurant tabs. I walked while others went out to eat. Not sure how your reinmbursement works... There are ways to make this work for youk if you want it to. PLEASE try. I know you can do it!! Ann

Body for Life Forum Message by alvindsv (187 posts) at 05:07 AM: What is it with people with limited lung capacity?
What is it with people with limited lung capacity? Why are they so positive? I was up at my church last night, and I met this older gentlemen whom the pastor wanted to interview on video tape for his sermon on Sunday. Just listening to the discussion, I learned that this person had 25% lung capacity. This guy had such a positive outlook on life. He was sitting there gasping for air just to talk, but what he said was so profound. How he enjoys each and every day, that it's a gift from God, and that he sees things anew every single day. Looking at this gentleman, I couldn't help but think of Julie Whitt. We take so many things for granted. Sometimes God puts people in our lives for no other reason than to just make us stop and take notice of the little things around us that are so wonderful. Have a wonderful day. Let someone know that you care about them, and go the extra mile to make a difference in not only your life, but that of someone else. Stay the Course Brian

I think it is ot just those with limited lung capapcity but everyon ewho has had good health, only to have some of it taken away. It makes them think how better things were before than now, and they realize that yes, we took many things for granted. It is God's way of reminding us whoi is in charge, and our job, those of us who are healthy, to learn the lessons from the folks like Julie and this gentleman at your church.

Body for Life Forum Message by stepor (90 posts) at 05:26 PM:
It has something with sitting there waiting to be able to breath with an oxygen mask on your face. Or laying in a hospital bed counting the dots on the ceiling while the nurses keep checking on you cause they aren't sure you are going to be there in the morning. Or calling up your spouse in the middle of the night from your bed and whispering Goodbye. Evidently whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, lung patients, once they trust themselves to live, are fairly strong people.

try giving yourself a week off and write down what you want to acomplish and why. and just keep that b4 picture handy to show yourself where you were and how far you came. Plus it will make you want to strive for more just to keep from going back to that starting point

Hey Renee, I am in my 2nd week and having that same problem but mine is because my health has not been very good. I missed 2 days workout this week because of complications with my health and don't feel like completing this week but I want to finish what I started. You have 2 more days Renee don't give up just think of how you feel and the wonderful changes you have made. Try to focus on the positives and you will regain your momentum. I think because it seems like its ending you may be feeling some anxiety but it too shall past. Hang on you are almost there I am rooting for you. Everyone here has been my inspiration not to give up. Its difficulty when because I stay sick all the time and in constant pain. Take a week rest before going into Challenge 2, don't stop your good habits work out but not so hard, and take a deep breath and contemplate on why you want this and how bad do you want it. After going back through all of Julie Whitt's old posts and reading her blog it really hit home. She said to dedicate your challenge to someone who can't do it. It made me think of the teenage boy, Seldin, who was killed last saturday in a car accident. My sister Lori, who was killed in a swimming accident at the age of eleven. My husband's Grandmother Haxie, who died of cancer almost 5 years ago. And Julie...Julie who rose above us all and not only challenged herself everyday, but dedicated a challenge to a man who gave her inspiration, a man she respected. So ask yourself today, why are you doing this challenge? Who could you dedicate your challenge to? Me? I dedicate my challenge to my sister Lori, right here, right now. This one is for her.....and to Julie, Thank you so much for giving me directions on how to live happy. Hugs! LisaMichele

I haven't started my challenge but will be this Sunday. I too read through Julie's posts yesterday and she was an amazing person. My brother was struck by lightening and killed at the age of 19. He was in the Airforce and just completed basic training and was waiting for a security clearance. He was headed into a great future. He was an amazing human being and I miss him terribly even though he has been gone for over 20 years. He was a runner, and an amazing athlete. I was always amazed at his ability to just pick up and run 8 mil
