I am considering becoming a certified personal trainer. Heck, the real estate market so I figured why not. Question for those in the know… which is better, ACE or ISSA and why. Any other recommendations? Any input will be helpful!
Thanks, TJ

I have to say, I would go with ACE. It has a much stronger reputation across the board. Just my opnion.

Body for Life Forum Message by TJ (648 posts) at 07:34 PM
One reason that I question ACE is their age and pass/fail rate. After visiting their site and seeing that you pay for everything (including retests), I found that the average passing rate per test hovers around 65%. I have a background in running schools and if I had a failure rate that averaged 35% I’d be flipping out big time. These extremely high failure rates force me to question whether their goal is truly to teach people to obtain the information needed to succeed or to write a confusing test so many students must retake the test… paying for each retest. A 35% average failure rate appears excessive. Does it not?

Fish oil is excellent as long as it is manufactured with distilled water. If you take capsules (which is only what I can manage), then you end up taking many more capsules vs. a liquid form. I personally take flaxseed oil, however, fish oil has benefits of brain development, however, I had trouble with the gas it created in me when I took it. I have heard the Omega-Brite brand does not have a fishy aftertaste. Yes, Udo's is a quality brand of essential fats. Actually by taking these fats, it helps us lose the fat our body is storing.
Body for Life Forum Message by Edward (42 posts) at 08:56 PM
Udo's oil blend is an outstanding product. Add it to your Myoplex for the win.
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (305 posts) at 09:42 PM
FOR MEN, not an issue for women, you really should not use much flaxseed oil if any. Some studies have suggested that flaxseed oil potentiates the growth of prostate cancer cells. Since prostate cancer is a very common form of cancer for men, it's not worth the risk--not to mention the fact that fish oil, whether in free liquid or capsule form (which is just encapsulated liquid) is far superior in antioxidant reducing ability, blood pressure lowering ability, lipid regulation, and even in fat burning. Yea to fish oil! God, I hate the taste, but it is the best supplement going.

Betagen is a product that contains creatine, HMB, and L-glutamine as well as a B-vitamin complex. Many of us BFL'ers absolutely swear by the stuff.
HMB is not human growth hormone. I'm really trying to be nice here and word this correctly, but for those that aren't sure of what they are saying, please don't come to this forum and spread misinformation.
Creatine increases lean mass and strength. The HMB prevents muscle protein breakdown. And L-Glutamine helps recuperation.
The person I talked to at EAS told me to take Betagen 30 min before my weight lifting, again immediately after, and then later in the day like before bed.
For my 145lb girlfriend, he said for her to take it before weight lifting and once later in the day like before bed.
I hope this helps. Ed

Do you take this as a meal replacement?
Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (78 posts) at 01:35 PM
No; betagen is just a supplement for muscle-building. It doesn't have any nutritional value as a protein or a carbohydrate. Take it as a supplement with some juice or water.

An addition to Robins post above: (copied off this site http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/eas/betanew.html)
Betagen HP is the first to combine university-tested EAS HMB and Phosphagen brand creatine monohydrate along with the amino acids taurine and glutamine - the two most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue. This formula is new and improved with the addition of more glutamine, more taurine, plus the antioxidants vitamin C and E, and a full array of B-vitmins.
This Product Was Designed To:
Increase lean muscle mass and strength
Supress muscle protein breakdown following exercise
Enhance muscle energetics and recuperation

After your inspiring challenge I decided i'd try and do it again. 3 miles in 19.30 mins (although at a consistant pace). What a rush I got after completing it (my legs didn't even feel tired strangly).
I celebrated by having a gourmet pizza afterwards (and regreted it heavily an hour later).
One piece of advise i'd give. Make sure your music is right (high tempo house or breakbeat does it for me) and pumped up high.

Well I didn't reach my goal today but I was able to get 2.83 and I will push for 2.88 on Tuesday. I am wondering if it is possible to run it at intervals and be able to get to 3 miles. My 9 is at 11 mph right now but I have a hard time recovering at 7 mph for my 6 intensity. Even as I type this I am brought back to how it was for me when I started pushing to this and my 10 was at 10mph and I thought I would die. Keep pushing those 10's and I know that I will get there.

REO Speedwagon - My grandparents died when I was around five or six. Before this they would have huge parties (my dad has thirteen brothers and sisters) and all of my cousins and I would sit in the pool room playing pool and listening to it on the record player over and over while our parents played cards and drank. To this day I can't hear it without thinking about that:)

The Evolution of the Scale: Enemy, Friend, Obession, Enemy, Tool
The scales hold a special place in many of our lives and it appears that the scales actually transform themselves in our eyes as we transform ourselves. The first relationship we have with the scales is they are our enemy. They display for us, in numbers, how far we have permitted our bodies and our health to deteriorate. We avoid the scales at all cost for they show us the truth that we do not want to be remainded of. We don’t like them. We stay far away from them. They are definitely out enemy.
Next, we decide to transform our bodies, eat correctly and exercise. The scales, through some amazing force of which we fail to comprhend, actually become our friend. They show us our progress as the pounds begin to melt off our bodies. The scales encourage us and and show us that our transformation efforts are reaping dividends. Thescales continually provide us the gratification we need to remain focused uopn our weight loss goals. The scales encourage us… they are our friend.
Then, inevitably, our weight loss ceases and our weight stagnates. We step on the scales daily, maybe numerous times per day. We step on them first thing in the morning. We step on them after our first and subsiquent bathroom breaks. We step on the scales after work. We step onto them after our dailt dose of ‘colon blow’ takes affect. The scales, the very same set we used to stay far from, have transformed into our obession. We can’t pass by the scales without thinking of stepping on them. We can’t help it. We are addicted. We have transformed into scale junkies.
The scales are no longer providing the positive reinforcement we expected from them so we now hate our scales. They are stuck at a place we don’t want them stuck. The scales are now our enemies. They are no longer providing us with the warm fuzzy they once did. They have become cold and evil. There isn’t a window too high that we would not throw our scales out of. Scales are evil, our enemies and we don’t want to step on them too often.
Then common sense floods our bodies. We suddenly are happy with our transformation, or at least, with out progress. The scales do not have the impact upon our lives that they once had. They become a tool, one of many that help us remain on the road to our successful transformation. The numbers that the scales display are one in a number of measurements we routinely take in order to judge our progress. They are a tool. Not an enemy… not a friend… not an obcession… just a tool.
So remember, when you step on that scale and it provides you a reading, that reading should be ONE out of numerous measurement that determine our overall health and wellbeing. Don’t get overly concerned if the scales appear to be stagnant. They aren’t as important as how you feel physically… how you feel mentally… and that you remain focused upon your health goals. The scale is just a tool… like our body fat caliphers… but that’s another story!
Good luck and don’t shoot your scales… but don’t hug them, either!

Some of you have side by sides posted or have faces blacked out...etc.
I just got a digital camera a few months ago so really all I know if how to get them off the camera. I use Picasa, but this just lets you crop and adjust that picture. I haven't been able to put anything side by side.

So I was planning my free day for today, Sat. and last night at the wedding we were at I had one bad meal. Now I ate on program all week Sunday up untill that Meal last night. So here is the question can you do 1 free meal on one day and then one the next? Just curious as I read this on another web site. I'm dedicated to the program and don't want to screw up but since it was one meal I sort of felt like I screwed myself out of a free day since that was the only meal I messed up. THanks all!
Body for Life Forum Message by wdrew (272 posts) at 01:20 PM
Splitting up the free meals might work if you had already reached your goals and were in maintence mode. While you are still working on reaching your goals, keep it to one day. I was stuck in a situation yesterday where we unexpectedly took tours of other facilities, so the meals I prepared and brought to work were at one place, and I was at another. So I had two 'free meals' yesterday and now I'll just count that as my free day. You can also just say you had one bad meal and don't let it throw you off of your plan and still have your free day like you planned. Just don't make a habit of it or you'll find your goals getting farther away like mine did over the holiday season. Dang holiday cookies.
Body for Life Forum Message by keaton7655 (46 posts) at 01:21 PM
My personal opinion is substitute a BFL for one of your free day meals. Instead of the entire day being free, have all but one meal free. I don't know if that's the BFL *law* but it works for me.
HTH,
Rene'
Body for Life Forum Message by jkbatchos (7 posts) at 01:23 PM
My plan was to eat all BFL meals untill one for dinner (Valentines day meal w/hubby) I did my cardio this morning and added on 10 minutes of Medium Intensity after the 20. I usually add 20 but had an appointment. I was just curious if I should tell him we will have to celebrate next week.
Body for Life Forum Message by mshaun (49 posts) at 01:26 PM
I think you need to relax and take a whole free day as planned. There is more to free day than just being able to binge. Free Day shocks your metabolism incase you haven't fueled it properly through the week. Their are probably more members here on the site that could explain it better but I'd think they'd agree, take your free day. Enjoy!
Body for Life Forum Message by Pan (100 posts) at 01:38 PM
I loose control if i take a free day. Whilst i advocate going by the book to a T i take a free meal once a week rather than day.
I guess each person is different and we all know our strengths and weakness'.
If you are to take a free day plan it, dont go over board.

I do all of my workouts at home too. I started with just dumbells from 2-20pounds, and a barbell with weights up to 120lbs. Cardio was done outdoors at the time I first started. We have since worked our way up to the rest:
free-used treadmill
free-used stationary bike
and just last month, a home gym. I'm on my 3rd challenge, and this is the first one that I have worked on anything other than the free weights....so yes, I do think you can get a LOT out of the free weights, but there will be a point where you will need more. That may not be for quite a while. You don't have to get more overnight. Get a little bit at a time. We bought 2 dumbells a week for a while! lol. Keep your eyes out at rummage sales/garage sales/word of mouth. Everyone who made those New Years resolutions to get fit will be selling their new fitness equipment come spring! lol

Star, maybe you can look around your home for everyday items you could use if the dumbbells aren't enough. Bags filled with sand, maybe? Also, maybe there is a freecycle group in your area. This is a network where you can post items you want to give away or items you need. Perhaps there is someone looking to get rid of old weights or a bench. Just google "freecycle".

I deleted your post because regardless of what's in it, you're not welcome here. Anyone who would come to a fitness support site and say "I looked at your profile, and If my dog had a face like you I'd shave his butt and walk him backwards." is not welcome on this site. Your posts only purposes were to make jokes out of peoples very serious efforts to improve themselves, and several of them were just spam with no purpose other than to stir stuff up. Out of all your posts, I don't recall one that was actually supportive of a person's attempt to lose weight. Despite all that, I usually give most people a second chance if I can talk to them and get them to agree to follow the terms of service of the site (like the rule that says NO TROLLING which describes almost every one of your posts). However, I can't do that for you because your profile contains no valid email, no valid name or contact information, and the information in your profile shows that you have no intention of using this site for it's purpose (tracking your weight loss results) because all of your information there is fake and unrelated to any attempt by you to lose weight. This site isn't for anybody out there to come shoot the bull and have fun. This site is for people who are trying to improve their bodies by losing weight and/or improving their fitness. Perhaps you are trying to do that, but if so I can't tell by your profile or your posts. You seem to be a troll looking only to stir up stuff in our forums. The fact that you would continue coming back after you have continually been told you are not welcome on this site tells me you are an immature person who will not behave even if I did give you a second chance. Not once have you attempted to contact me through email or the contact page (which would require you to use a valid email for me to contact you back), so obviously you have no intentions of doing the right thing and only want to create trouble. I have already contacted the company you are accessing the internet through and spoken to a representative at the company by email and given her the information I have on you so that they can let you know you are not welcome since you can't seem to get that through your thick head by the administrator of a site just telling you that. Please leave as you are not welcome.
Now I see you are logging on through comcast cable instead of through your work... do I really need to get ahold of Comcast with your IP address and login time so that they can tell you to stop as well??? It always amazes me the lengths and threats a troll will make you go through to make them go away.

Body for Life Forum Message by Boise Lifer (79 posts) at 09:47 AM
Well, I just finished taking my capsules and fiber so we will see. I felt my stomach grumbling a little last night but nothing major yet. The fiber isn't that bad tasting actually.
Body for Life Forum Message by Hot Body (860 posts) at 10:34 AM
This is start of day 6 for me...so I've increased the fiber and the steeping time for the tea (although I realize now I forgot to increase the Paranil).

I had to go back and look, but the last time I did the stepper (December), I managed 69 floors which is 1.69 miles. (Levels: 3,3,4,5,6,7,4,5,6,7,4,5,6,7,4,5,6,7,8,3)
I wonder if we are talking about the same thing though. I used the actual set of stairs that revolve.
I remember this workout being really hard which means I need to incorporate it more. I think I will do it on Tuesday's workout.

Stepper shMEPPER! Yuck! running I get in around 400 calories and with the fan on I feel like I am running into the wind. steppers are boring to me.

2.75 is my record so far. I have been working hard to get to that and I hope to push to 2.85 tommorow is the goal. I am hoping to be at 3 miles by the end of March. This is the ultimate.
Body for Life Forum Message by KatieFeld-mom (196 posts) at 12:28 AM
I'm at 1.65 miles.
I increase it every time since I bump up the MPH by a tenth. Of course, I can only run about once a week or my knees and ankles get mad at me.
Body for Life Forum Message by ray59 (52 posts) at 04:42 AM
just fininshed my aerobics on the treadmill. 1.52 miles and a speed of 6.5 for my ten. I walk for levels 5&6 and jog for 7,8,9,&10
Body for Life Forum Message by losingit (27 posts) at 06:29 AM
Set myself a new record yesterday. Hit 4.97k (3.1miles) in 20 mins. That was at a constant pace and not changing it throughout. Probably could've gone slightly faster, but thats something to work towards.
Body for Life Forum Message by dsw3131 (15 posts) at 07:12 AM
So far I've done 2.13 miles on my treadmill. Normally, I run outside, but where I'm deployed to right now, it's too darn hot and humid. I'm curious how you guys are hitting different distances everytime. For me, I set out a sequence that really pushes me like: 6=6.0, 7=6.5, 8=7.0, 9=8.0, 10=9.0. When I feel like it's not really pushing me anymore, I increase it. It helps push me, even on days when I don't want to go that fast. How do you guys do it?
Body for Life Forum Message by dsw3131 (15 posts) at 07:15 AM
Hey losingit. 3.1 miles in 20 minutes equates to just over 6:30 per mile. Not bad at all. That's a pretty quick pace. I don't think I could maintain any faster than 7:30 per mile for 3 miles right now. I'm impressed.
Body for Life Forum Message by losingit (27 posts) at 08:01 AM
Thanks dsw. I've been playing football (soccer) for years as well as regularly running, so I had a good head start comfared to most people. I think the next challenge is 4 miles in under 27mins. Thats one for next weekend.

Mine is 2.0 miles in 20 minutes, and I only did it once. I'm hoping I can beat it soon, once I get a handle on my medical issue.
Body for Life Forum Message by kitwhit (17 posts) at 09:23 AM
OK, I guess I really shouldn't chime in here because I am not a runner, but I do use a light run for my 8's, 9's and 10 during HIIT on the treadmill. This is huge for me as I ruptured both Achilles 19 months ago and thought I would never walk again normally, let alone run! With my power walk/run combo during HIIT I am doing about 1.4 miles in 20 minutes.
Body for Life Forum Message by AirSpace (124 posts) at 09:27 AM
one day the stars aligned just right and I made 2.0 miles in 20 minutes, but usually I do about 1.89 - on good days I get 1.94 or 1.96

OK, so are we talking BFL style 20 minutes, or just in general 20 minutes? BFL style 20 minutes I've done 2.15 (that was today) by doing 5.5,6.0,6.5,7.0 and 8.5 for my high point. However, just jumping on the treadmill and running straight out for 20 minutes, I've gotten 2.3miles. Thats the fastest I've ever gone. Typically, I could run just a bit over 2 miles in 20 minutes.
Body for Life Forum Message by Lese (32 posts) at 10:10 AM
I am now at 1.75. When I started I was at 1.27. I want to be at 2.0 at the end of this challenge. I think it might kill me :) It is so good to read what others write and know that what ever it is that you do is normal because there are so many people at different levels doing this program. BFL Rules!

I use to run alot at lunch time at work. Running took alot of body mass from me and left me with body fat!! Since joining BFL I only try for 20 minutes of cardio. I ran a marathon at 49 years old and it nearly killed me. Good luck. Jesse

Body for Life Forum Message by JudyT (16 posts) at 12:40 PM
I'm in the same league as many above. I usually get between 1.5 and 1.7 miles in 20 minutes. I usually work on the treadmill. I walk at 3.5 for one minute and then increase by .5 until I get to 5.5, then I drop back to 4 and go to 6, then again, then on the last phase I go to 6.5.
I have to say, I've run two half marathons at an average of just under 12 minute miles (I know it is slow ... but I ran two half marathons!) The challenges that I did prior to those races (one in June, 2004 and the other in June, 2005) were the leanest I have ever been. Training for a marathon requires more than just the 20 minute HIIT but I combined both into my BFL program.

Sorry I know ya'll are probably tired of the poo talk- but- I brought some down for my Dad- he's interested, really but worried- he had a heart attack at 47 ( 73 now, bless his heart, he beat it all) but he does take a med for his heart that secretes excess cholesterol into the bowels...does anyone know if this cleanse will have any adverse interaction with this med? Im gonna call the number on the box tomorrow- but I think this would be great for him if its possible...thanks ya'll for any help.

went to the doc for a follow up to my dec 6 visit. He wanted me to lose weight and excercise to lower my cholesterol,or start taking meds to bring it down.I didnt start anything in december and I'm sure I put on weight during the christmas holidays.I started bfl the second week of Jan, but didnt do an official weigh-in because I didnt want to know how much I gained. At yesturdays visit I was down from 230 to 219.Yes,yes,yes! However,my cholesterol actually went up from 217 to 223.Doc said just keep doing what your doing and come back in six weeks to check it again.I am starting to really rely on the support from all the dedicated people on this site, and the incredible results as shown in the pics.I just need to get on track with the food more consistently and be disciplined.Ya gotta really want it. If I feel this good now,I cant imagine how good I'll feel if I keep working out and lose another 49 lbs!

What do most of you plan on doing when this current challenge is over? Me, I'm not stopping. I'm determined to make BFL a lifelong pursuit. Bill Phillips designed this program to be maintained for a lifetime, and the last thing I want to do is start gaining the weight back or losing muscle mass. I've seen people who looked fabulous their 1st challenge, only to stop, gain some or all of it back, and then have to recover old ground in a new challenge. I really want to avoid that. I've read that Bill suggests taking a week off between challenges, but I'm not going to. I'm afraid it might be too hard to get back into it.
Anyone else have different plans? Maybe you want to try something else after BFL, want to take a week or 2 off, etc. Just wondering.
Body for Life Forum Message by losingit (27 posts) at 08:28 AM
I don't really think of it as a challenge (that way I can't fail!!!)
Your spot on with that statement though. The challenge never finishes until you decide you can't be bothered with it anymore (or get injured).
I'm not religious when it comes to BFL, but i've got enough info on nutrition and exercise that I can now make the correct choices in life. I've also got the inspiration this site provides with the profiles and forums from all you lot.

I hope I never have another day like yesterday! I woke up late, so I didn't get my meals together to take with me. I was starving so I ran through, ugh - McDonalds. Later on in the morning, some of my students brought donuts to class. I won't even mention what I did. Then the cafeteria served chili for lunch. Later, after school I ran through long john silvers and got a chicken plank and a real soda. Then last night, I went over to some friends house for a birthday party and had gumbo, potato salad, and cake. WHY, WHY, WHY???????? AAAAGGGGHHHHHH
I just finished my 11th week, and then a complete and total meltdown. On top of that, I did not get my workout in. I got in zero cardio this past week. The only bright spot to this whole ordeal is that I am simply saying that yesterday was my free day, and I am heading to the gym this morning. That I will not have another day like yesterday. That although I am at on week 11, I am still on week 3 of my BFL cruise challenge and need to get my butt in gear. I am in no way shape or form done with the race, I cannot slip up now.

I'm with you, Brian.
I bet if you think back, there may have been a time in your life when that kind of day was the norm, not the exception. The difference now is that you are aware of it, and possibly even aware of the very real effects it has on your body and how you feel.
Lots of folks, myself included has spent a day or three living the old life, and then wake up the next day feeling miserable ( more physically than mentally mind you ) and have finally made the simple connection...
Garbage in, Garbage out.
This is a thing or realization to be celebrated :)
Yours in Health,
Kerry

Sounds like you had a great day!!! Instead of beating yourself up, relish the fun of it and let it carry you over til the next free day.
I find the 'guilt' of it is a set up for self punishment. To have 'relished' it, is to move on and view it as a 'treat'.

Can'tStopMe - you are so right! I too feel if I beat myself up for it I tend to just let go and revert back to old habits and then really feel bad. With the attitude like the one you talk about, it's so much easier to move on.

It hasn't been easy, but my older 4 are my biggest supporters & cheerleaders...my son is
considered "high needs" (needs to be held & cared for non-stop, on most days he screams through my cardio...I used to tend to him during my "6's" but now he's alittle older I don't mind him exercising his lungs for 20 mins...it is alittle easier on UBWO/LBWO days...during the minute rest...
BFL has given me both the strength & patience to deal with just about anything!

This really kicks my butt. but its about 2.20 miles for 20 min. This was after LBWO with squats at 220 for 12 reps. Today my quads are toast. But ironically feels great

Thats remarkable.
On Leg days, I can barely walk up my stairs when I get home - my legs feel like jelly.
Good for you!

you run at the speed of 8.8 ????
Geez, I thought I was running fast at 4.2 mph, how can you run that fast??? Wow! I really admire you, that is awesome!!
Linda
Body for Life Forum Message by reagan123 (128 posts) at 03:08 PM
i do 5 mph for 2 min then 6, 7, 8, 9 and then finish at ten
i think its about 2.6 miles... i can't remember, it may be a bit less
Body for Life Forum Message by KatieFeld-mom (196 posts) at 10:41 PM
On my last run, I did levels 4.4, 4.9, 5.4, 5.9, and high point of 6.4.
I'm trying to increase the MPH by a tenth every time I get on.
I'm up to 1.65 miles for the 20 minutes. I think my overall goal is to get 2 miles in the 2o minutes. It'll happen, just going to take some time.

Tonight is Sarah's big night, the Jr Miss Pagant, She is running agaisnt 14 girls from Pearl River County to compete for the title of Miss JR Miss,
She has an opening number a dance and song, then poise and beauty in a formal bubble gum pink pagaent evening gown. then has to do a solo song anf dance, she's sining Stupid Cupid ! and has on a 50's poodle outfit.
Right now at this minute she is at the Judges interview, she has on a beatutiful black tweed suit she's stunning!!!! the interview is the judges asking her questions about the state of Mississippi and the Mayor and all that stuff I don't even know. It's been practice practice practic plus she has Drama classes plus cheerleading, plus has a job at the radio station after school, she's a DJ, and just ran for the track meet, as though she has nothing to do, haha
So tonight is the Bigie and we are all excited, Monday is her birthday she will be 17, yep she and I have the same birthday, and then Tuesday is Girlfriend /boyfriend day, right? Valentine's day,
Sarah and her boyfriend Alex have been together for 2 years, yes I know too young, but you can't tell kids today anything. anyway Alex's parents moved to north Mississippi last year which has made it very diffcult to see each other, but they manage, the plan has been for Alex to move in with us this summer and live in the little guest house and go to college, then get married when Sarah graduated from school during her 1st year in College, she wants to be a lawyer.
Last night, Alex calls up and tells her, he is fed up with all this Miss Jr Miss stuff, because she doesn't make enough time to talk to him on the phone ( note, When he wants to talk) and he is thinking about college and he says his brother says it's party time and he doesn't need Sarah cramping up his party life. So he wants to break up. They have been auguing on and off and this was the last straw,
Sarah is saying it is ok, but she fell apart the last few times she thought they were breaking up. I think right now she is just so nervous about tonight that it hasn't hit her yet. which is good, she is nervous enough, but isn't that just awful,
I always said, from the begginning, that every single time something important comes up for Sarah , Alex butts in and makes things terrible for her.
I have said my creed today Larry, but the part about not critizing is just not working today, I am so mad that this jerk did this, not that they broke up, that's for the better, but now, when she is already a mess and a nervous wreck, to me that just proves he didn't love her, you don't hurt someone you care about and even if you don't care about them, you don't hurt them at a time when they need support for something happening that's important to them.
Ok , got that off my chest! thanks for listening,
I'll go read the creed again and again!!
Love, Linda
and be thinking of my baby girl tonight, I sure hope she wins, she has worked so hard for this, she's like I am, when she wants something she goes all out for it!!!
Bill just called she's going into her interview now, so she is GETTEN*HER*DONE as I type.
then she has to go get her hair re-done a different style for the pagant, WHEW!!!! It's been a very Busy Day!
So everybody, just say, Good Luck Sarah Michelle and keep her in your thoughts and prayers that she wins,
If she does, she gets a college scholarship!!!! and Holds the title of Miss Jr Miss of PRC

Work it off (the anger) and celebrate when she wins!

Wow - with everything else in your life, Linda, you are just SUPER WOMAN to also support your daughter's rise to this point. It is an all-consuming thing, for sure. She will GET*HER*DONE!!!
And what a poignant lesson for her to learn now while she's young. Yes, rotten timing, but a woman should never stand for a man who sabotages her progress. As gut-wrenching as this time is, there is also some grace to be found here... Give thanks.

I need it! Desperately! I don't know what my problem is - - every week, for the last three weeks, I've started clean, only to throw out the BFL menu by Day three. So then I start over again the next week, all the while beating myself up for not being committed to my goals. I took my Before picture (and was not happy with what I saw), but I posted it reluctantly because I thought it would motivate me to follow-up with a progress picture in a few weeks. I just can't seem to get to the few weeks mark!! What the heck is wrong with me??! Help! I have no real excuse!! I just need a kick in the a**...please! :-)

Are you a perfectionist? I know I am and have also been failing at keeping my challenge every week. I've been pushing my start date since the year began. I'm actually pushing it back to start on Monday again.
My problem is that I don't organize myself enough for the week and find myself missing meals/ making time for workouts, etc...then if it all doesn't run as it should that week then I consider it a failure and want to start it all over again.
You are my same age and same weight (don't know about the body fat). Wanna start together this Monday and hold each other accountable?
Body for Life Forum Message by bella2be (510 posts) at 08:07 PM
Tomorrow, Sunday, my challenge officially starts!!! I will update weight and measurements tomorrow.
I have never been more ready to begin my new lifestyle. The past few weeks of reflection on where I am and where I want to be, combined with just eating so poorly and realizing how out of shape I am culminated, and I have made the decision to change.
When I think about the future weeks, I cannot believe how excited I am to start changing my body, from the inside out. I can't wait to start feeding my body the food that it needs, rather than junk, and I cant wait to begin pushing my limits in my workouts. To think that I can actually achieve a toned, fit, body, and discover confidence is amazing.
I am looking forward to taking 4 week and 8 week pictures...seeing the changes with my own eyes and feeling the changes in my clothes.
What I believe will be essential for me is consistently positive thinking. Though I am really unhappy with where my body is now, I know I will have to love myself during the transition. No beating myself up over how I look now, just concentrating on the fact that I am working my hardest to change it.
Everyone on the board has been so amazing in the past week as I worked upu to this point. Thank you so much. I look forward to talking more with everyone, and giving support as I have been given!!!
xoxo Bella

What about other indicators of progress? Clothes fitting any different? Cameras can be tricky, especially if the distance the picture was taken from is different. I think the newest picture is closer than the first. You are doing fine!

I restarted my challenge on Jan 1. LOL I think it lasted til my first day of nursing school Jan 3. That was the day I went into crisis mode. Never ever knew it would be this hard. School from 8-2:30 and about 8-10 hours homework every night and a test every day. That is til now. Passed the 1st 2 classes with A's and it has either slowed down to a regular pace or I have found my rhythm. time to get back on track. Not to mention we were taking bp's the other day and mine was 2xx/14x. Do I have to say stroke level. Time to get serious. Real serious. I think I have shot my metabolism. Anyone have any suggestions for getting my body back on track? I am going to restart the challenge monday and go from there. Hugs to all. Dawn

PS: yes you will be ready for your bikini if you do BFL and work hard (at least that is what I'm telling myself!)

Well it's Saturday and I've almost made it through the first week and I feel great..it's been a good one and i"ve been at that gym every day at 5am..today I stayed in bed until 7am and that felt good. Tommorrow after church I'm going for a cycle..I've chosen not to take a free day not yet anyway, reason being I have to do all or nothing it's difficult for me to stop and start eating junk (because that's what I'm likely to eat, Junk) and another thing I'm not craving anything..don't feel like eating choclate (maybe because my protien shake is choclate) don't feel like cakes or anything like that really. Anyhow I certainly feel lighter and for sure I feel better mentally. I went to the hairdressers today and I looked so fat in the mirror that experience alone is keeping me committed to doing this thing completely. I really am going for it fully and can't wait for my next pics to go up...I am going to do two 12 week challenges and then this will continue to be a way of life.
I hope all you guys that started the same time as me are having a good first week. Tell me how you're doing feeling, thinking, reacting.

I start BFL on Monday... I'm excited and nervous; I've tried weightoss plans before, but have never stuck with them past a couple of weeks. This time I am determined to make a lifestyle change. I need to lose about 30 pounds and re-energize... For the past year, I'm always too tired to do anything and I want to change that. I'm going to need lots of support.
I can't wait to start on Monday!!!

hey team I don't know if we can have it but I just love to take a rice cake and add pnut butter put it in the microwave for about 30 seconds and add slices of banana. Oh what a treat. it takes like a piece of banana bread. its sooo good. or I take a rice cake and add cottage cheese with pineapple slices on top. this is like a dessert. or a rice cake with slices of apple and heated in the microwave for about 30 seconds. I hate rice cakes but I love them when I add some of these toppings.
