I ordered accumeasure calipers and have used them to do my first bodyfat measurement. The instructions that came with them tells you to only measure in one spot. Using those, I get 30.3%
I just plugged my measurements into mybodycomp.com and got 39% and into the navy site and got 38%
Obviously I'd like to believe the calipers, but thats a pretty big difference and I guess I am wondering whther I should do the measurements in multiple places...
Any thoughts? Are any of them fine as long as I am consistent??
Body for Life Forum Message by Minka (83 posts) at 11:57 AM
i would do them in multiple places then average them out
Body for Life Forum Message by wdrew (275 posts) at 12:38 PM
I use the accumeasure calipers and I always use the same three spots and average them out. Just make sure you are consistant with where you measure so that you can track improvements accurately.

I am working with a severly obese person and he is confused on eating. Calories went from very high (bad foods) to very low all good foods. Any advice out there please send it my way
Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (420 posts) at 03:29 PM
Are his calories too low? Is that what you're asking? What's confusing him? Did you teach him the palm/fist stuff, and the right foods to choose? Lots of questions, I know, but I'm not sure where you're having a problem...
Body for Life Forum Message by losingit (28 posts) at 04:06 PM
Don't cut the calories down to a low level. Obviously reduce them to approx 2200 a day, but make sure the protein and carbs are of the correct quantities, and the fat content is cut down (approx 20% of the diet). Eating regular should stop the hunger feel for him, and if he's gonna start exercising (even mildly) the weight should drop off in weeks.
Good luck. Its often hard to get through to people, but if you explain it simply, and mention all the health benefits this 'way of life' gives, he'll be keen to start.

I don't understand the question either but my first instincts tell me to really push the water for some reason. Until this person gets "settled" I would encourage continuous water drinking for reasons (a) they probably weren't drinking enough before anyway and the "flushing" will be super beneficial and (b) assuming they aren't used to a good deal of water intake prior, it should really help with appetite control. Just guessing here.
Body for Life Forum Message by jeremy (1156 posts) at 10:07 PM
He went from over 6000 calories a day is my guess... not sure about that one. He is now at about 1000-1600 per day. Of course the weight is coming off but I just dont like it. He has lost over 100lbs thus far. He does drink a lots of water and has a lot more weight to lose. Every web page I checked said he should be at over 3000 calories... Thoughts keep them coming.
Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (936 posts) at 11:28 PM
OH my....that is WAY too few calories!
Can you explain this slowly to him, asking him to INCREASE the food.
I am guessing with a 100lb weight loss there is significant skin issues. Explain that the "sag" or skin problem will be less if he builds muscle, has to eat to build muscle....etc.
Start SLOWLY...like an extra 100 calories a day. Maybe an apple and a cheese stick, introduce a protein shake, some nuts?
Does he has a resistence to eating more because of his success with his plan? How about Weight Watchers point system? Just the basics....I don't know how much this person weighs....but without refreshing my memory-- I am supposed to have between 24-26 points a day. Points are about 60-100 calories, depending on fiber and fat content. So for a 200lb person, that is 2000 calories a day (of the right foods of course).
I am guessing this man is well over 200 lbs.

Body for Life Forum Message by sixpack (132 posts) at 04:54 PM
Nothing. What do you have to tip them for?
They have not done anything over and above what they are suppose to do. You are paying the 2 bucks to have them make the juice right and be able to give you a smile and a have a nice day. So I am not sure what they could do at the juice bar to earn a tip.
Body for Life Forum Message by Muscles_Marinara (54 posts) at 05:11 PM
EXCUSE ME??
God, sixpack, I hope I never run into you in real life, ebcause I'm not sure I could keep my mannerss, or my cool.
EVERY service industry person eserves a tip of some sort, whether it be a waiter, a barber, or a juice bar person, if they provided you with good service.
I'm not saying you should give a full buck, but 50cents would be appropriate, I think.
Here's a general rule of thumb when ordering anything:
If you can't automatically afford to tip 20%, STAY HOME.
Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (80 posts) at 06:01 PM
I think people who work at juice bars (say, unlike waitstaff at a restaurant, where they make less and depend on their tips almost entirely) make minimum wage. That being said, minimum wage hasn't gone up in 8 years and is only $5.15 per hour nationally, which really isn't a living wage. I tip, usually between 50 cents and a dollar because I'd want someone to do it for me.
Body for Life Forum Message by bubblz7 (178 posts) at 06:06 PM
So, am I supposed to be tipping the Starbuck's person who makes my coffee the way its supposed to be made, after paying $3.92 for it? I guess I never thought about that as I've never tipped a Starbuck's employee.....
Body for Life Forum Message by anavywife (191 posts) at 06:17 PM
Do you tip people at Subway??? I think that if anyone is tipping 20% to fast food waitstaff they are going above and beyond what is required or even considered normal etiquette. I will admit if someone is just the most friendly person and does an exceptional job putting my Diet Coke in a cup at Sonic I might let them have my change. JMO but if you are at fast food dont feel obligated to give a tip.
Body for Life Forum Message by TJ (650 posts) at 09:31 PM
My mom was a waitress. She raised four kids on tips. So, I learned at a young age that I tip everyone. I do not feel obligated to do so… I just do it. And the people that earn the tips appreciate it.
Body for Life Forum Message by sixpack (132 posts) at 10:40 PM
I guess I did not clarify that this doesn't mean that you don't tip others such as your waitress, espesially the ones that are raising 4 kids, what an amazing MOM! But we are talking about the JUICE BAR for crying out loud. Now this isn't to say that if I run across that Exeptional blender operator someday that they will get a tip from me but until then they will have to put up with the $5.15 an hour that they agreed to get paid when they took the job.
When I go to a resturant I tip 15% for regular service and as much as 30 to 50% for that great service but I am far from tipping the Mail Man or the Juice bar guy/girl. Sorry for my insensitivity Muscle.
Body for Life Forum Message by Muscles_Marinara (54 posts) at 11:16 PM
Just a little FYI.. Average service should get 18-20%, NOT 15.. How much has the price of a loaf of bread gone up in the last 50 years, when that standard was made? (Not to mention gas, heating bills, etc..)
Good service denotes 25%.
What you may not realize is that tipped employees minuimum wage is $2.13/hr, NOT $5.15. I'm not saying that Starbucks doesn't pay their employees 5.15, I'm just saying that if thre's a tip jar available, they probably don't make nearly what you think they do..
BTW, TJ, you look 10 years younger in those later photos!

Okay, lets try this again....
I was supposed to have a date tonight---and as you can guess....I stood there all alone with my date not returning my call. Grrr. Such as hassle as a single mom....I had to get a babysiter and actually plan this evening. So I went to a movie to make it worth my time.
Anyway....my date called and said "there was a death in the family. I should have called, but I didn't and I am sorry. Sorry to ruin the night". I didn't talk to him, he left a message.
Should I EVEN consider believing this? Not even sure I want to. I don't hang with rude. Rude is Rude is Rude is Rude.
This was supposed to be a first date. I know this man too. I will have to see him again. He has been asking me out for sometime, just recently got more persistent.
Just confused...not sure if I care. Opinions?

I have no idea who it is by. Its a funny book about men and women written by a guy...and pretty much lines out that if a man wants a girl....he WILL do anything....goofy excuses aside. Women are the ones failing to see the blatent red flags that scream "he just isn't that into you".
I have used the death in the family excuse to get out of work (I really hated that job) so him using that on me for a first date that he has been begging me for? So is this one of those flags?

Did anybody start by walking? I walk at 3.5 for 2, 3.7, 3.8, 3.9, 4.0, then 4.2/4.3 for my 10. Truthfully, I'm scared to run. How would you start to put running into a walking routine?
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (560 posts) at 01:48 PM
Of course you can walk.... as long as you are hitting a 10. A 10 for me is when I feel like I might throw up and I CANT go any further. Legs also feel like lead. :) If you're not there, then you should incorporate some running..... I would still walk progressively faster for 4 minutes, then jog slowly, say, at 5.2 or so, for the final minute. THEN repeat 4x..... the 4th time make the run faster, maybe 6.0. If you arent TOTALLY exhausted at the end, slowly increase the speed or time spent running by adding speed to the run minute, or running the last 2 min of every 5. Hope that helps.... let us know how it goes!
Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (560 posts) at 02:04 PM
P.S. If you're scared to run the speeds I suggested.... just run at 4.3- that really is fast for walking so just switch to a slow run and then you can always walk right away if you dont like it. Once you get used to it you can slowly increase the speed. I know runners who run all the time at 4.0 or so.

Ray, Good for you.
Concerning your cholesterol, while your total cholesterol went up, what did your LDL (bad cholesterol) and HDL (good cholesterol) do? Your total cholesterol has a lot to do with that. At one point my total cholesterol went up to 183, which was 30 points higher than it normally was BUT my HDL had increased from 60 to 96 and my LDL went down from 75 to 52. Higher HDL and lower LDL is your goal! Men should have an HDL above 40 and women above 50. So, it's important to know if your good cholesterol went up, then hey no problems!!! Ask your doctor...

Here's one thing that's lucky: she found out Alex doesn't have what it takes to be a husband WELL before her youth runs out. She's got years and year to enjoy herself now, date LOTS of guys, if she wants to, and find the most suitable husband (you see, I didn't say "perfect", no such thing!!) She sounds like a wonderful girl, with a LOT of potential. She should enjoy her single life before getting married out of high school, anyway! "-) INHO. My parents always told us, wait wait WAIT until you're older (like past 25) before you get married, because even YOU don't know who you are until you're 30. This has been true for me. I know others have gotten married in their early 20's and things have worked, but in my opinion, marriage is so much easier when both people have had a chance to be immature, make mistakes, party, see other people, travel, etc. etc. Anyway, this is a tangent, and I hope the best for your daughter. She will look back at this one day and wish she hadn't wasted so much emotional energy on a jerk. Let us know if she wins - even if she doesn't, she sounds terrific.

when i swam in high school we used to do bodyweights every other day - handstand push-ups against the wall, wheelbarrows, pull-ups, dips
i used to be able to do a ton of them but haven't tried in ten + years
if you can get a spotter to hold your feet against the wall and help you the
first couple of times it may help

Hand Stand push ups is something I've included in my goals, something that I'm hoping to do but I don't think I'm strong enough YET. It will happen though.
But I've recently seen another form of pushups that has blown my mind. When I can get to the point that I can do these, I will be very happy. What I saw was a guy doing pushups, on his fingers only, while keeping his legs in the air parallel to his body. His feet never touched the ground.

Jerry, you just took what I was going to say! That is, that doing handstand pushups, or dips that go "too low" create such huge pressure on the rotator cuff that they really need to be classified as dangerous exercises. I tore my supraspinatus tendon right off the bone doing the dips, and it wasn't that I was weak, I had done 15 of them right before I did the last one. Today, I am back doing dips, and could do one handstand against a wall, but it is a whole lot less painful if I don't do the stands.

Thanks Suzanne and thanks Jerry for the info. I always warm up before lifting. The guy I work out with on Saturdays is a chiropractor and he has helped me alot on how to prevent injuries. Take care. Jesse
Body for Life Forum Message by rema (3 posts) at 12:58 PM
What I do is to perform the handstand pushups going only the half way down, till the point where I guess I can lift my weight up again. I do that with my feet against a wall and can do 5 or 6 repetitions in this way.
You can put some books under your head to limit the range of motion, and reduce the number of books when you get stronger.
Body for Life Forum Message by leanzzz (43 posts) at 03:59 PM
Thanks, I will try that. Jesse
Body for Life Forum Message by Kristalyn (20 posts) at 05:09 PM
I'll be honest - I CAN NOT even attempt to do this, but my husband can do them in as many reps as most people can do regular push ups. From him I do know that while push ups use your chest muscles, hand stand push ups use mainly your shoulders. Until you can lift as much as your weight on the shoulder press, you're setting yourself up to get hurt like Jerry said. Just like when you lift weights, know your limit.
To all you who can do it - I bet you have some great shoulders - (my favorite part of the body)!!

No doubt your husband has great shoulders. After 5 hand stands at 20 seconds each my entire upper body was pumped. I am sore today!!! That is good because it means my fibers will be growing.

Well I have to say I can't see too much change in the photos (guess I shouldn't expect to in two weeks!) but overall I am happy with my progress so far. I have eaten fairly clean the last two weeks, really tried to hit those 10s, and my hubby-to-be has been really supportive in his "oooh your legs feel stronger" type comments.
I think so far the most amazing thing about this program has been the sense of pride it gives you when you hit those 10s...or just go those few steps further then you thought you could.
Happy free day to everyone! Ciao all!

One question.. most of the weight loss at the beginning is just water loss...Correct? I'm a bit afraid that I am losing muscle instead of gaining if I'm at 119lbs but my body fat percent has only dropped a small amount? Should I not worry unless the scale numbers continue to drop by large amounts?
Body for Life Forum Message by hogken (42 posts) at 09:01 AM
I accidentally found info on Burn the fat ,Feed the muscle and it sounded very interesting. Has anyone read this? It briefly spoke of BFL and how it has a lot of things going for it.But, suggests the 1 program is not for all walks of life and thats why some succeed and others fail.Should I read this? I want to,unless its some scammy deal. Also it does not promote any supplements whatsoever as does BFL.
Thank u

First, I want to thank everyone who responded to my thread about creatine and fatloss (Heather where are you???) http://www.bodyforlife-tracker.com/weight_loss_forums/viewthread.cfm?f=3&t=14386
You gave me good advice about the creatine and I decided to cycle off of it for a week to see what happened....
For all those who are freaking out at lack of weightloss, please
keep on. Actually two weeks ago I was posting on just about every
forum and group that I found about what should I do because the
scale is not moving...
HERE ARE THE RESULTS:::
I'm on finishing up Week 5 of my first Body for life challenge, and I will tell you that I lost no weight the first 4
weeks. In fact I gained a pound. But guess what? I went to bed on
Monday and when I got up on Tuesday and weighed myself, I was down
5 pounds. It felt good to see it, but I didn't believe it. Well this
morning I weighed myself again and guess what? It was down another
pound!! So I guess what I'm trying to say is give your internal body
time to catch up with what you are doing.
It took me 5 weeks to see the scale drop 6 pounds (Oh yeah, I lost 2
inches in my waist and abdomen and my body fat went down 2%--
measured with Omron). I decided that I'm only going to weigh myself
once a week!! No more daily weigh in for me.
Actually, I was taking creatine for 4 weeks, and I cycled off of it
for this week. So I guess that's why I didn't see any changes.
Anyways, I decided not to continue creatine for the remainder of the
challenge. I'm not strong enough to deal with the scale staying the
same. Plus, since I started the challenge taking creatine, I'm not
really sure if it was helping me in turns of muscle recovery and
gains because I don't have anything to compare it too. A part of me
wants to stay with the creatine and just take it after workout days
because of all the great things everyone said about it. Plus, my
inspiration, Nicole Heyrman, took creatine during her challenge...I
don't know, I guess I will have to decide by Tuesday (the night time
I do weights).
Today is my free day!! I had oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and half a
grapefruit for breakfast. I've been craving a peanut butter and
jelly sandwhich so I'm going to have one for lunch. Dinner, not sure
yet, but it will be good!!
ONLY THE STRONG(MENTALLY) WILL SURVIVE! That's what I have to tell
myself. It's really the mental aspect of the challenge that is hard.
It's the fact that you keep pushing on even when you don't see
changes...
PS: heather I am ready to commit to the weigh-in challenge if you are.

The last time I used creatine, I gained water weight, felt bloated and I was very unhappy. Like you said, if you don't mind the impact it has on the scale, I guess it's okay to use. Either way, congrats on the fat loss!

Have to keep telling ourselves that when they don't WIN they learn something that will help them later in life. But it is hard to watch someone else walk away with the big prize. She must have so much poise and confidence to undertake such a thing. And the competition just made her even more savvy. Congrats.

Any female BFLers that will be starting tomorrow Monday 2/13/06 that are in the 32-37 age range, between 130-145lbs., PLEASE JOIN US...WE NEED EACH OTHER'S SUPPORT!
I hope to find others with similar stats to join the race so that we can hold eath other accountable and keep one another motivated during those difficult bumps on the road ahead.
I've been trying to get on the bandwagon since the year began and here we are in mid February and I have yet to make a change! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
I lack motivation and the perfectionist in me always finds a way to sabotage my pogress and deems me a failure for not living up to my expectations.
***********************
I publicly confess that as of tomorrow I will not look back at the mistakes I made in the past, I will give it my 100% for 83 days, take each meal, each workout, each day as an individual challenge and praise myself each night when I go to bed for my accomplishments that day. I will write in my journal daily, pointing out the most minimal accomplishment and any possible improvement that can help me get closer to achieve my goal. I will maintain active communication with other BFLers on Tracker and help them in their journey to achieve their goals.
Most importantly, I will plan ahead so that I can be prepared for each week IN ADVANCE; even if it means eating the same thing every day for a week!
**********************
Under Oath, Maria
....and the challenge begins!!!
P.S. By all means, all other experienced BFLers please feel free to join us, motivate us, make suggestions, etc. etc. YOU ARE ALL WELCOME!

I haven't worn a 2 piece bathing suit in 8 years. I wear the one piece with the skirt, pathetic! This summer I want to be able to look fit and be healthy.
I'm off to plan my workouts for this week as well as my meals. I'm using the progress reports on BFL website to track my exercises and meals. What has worked out for me in the past is cooking several chicken breasts at a time for future meals. Quick and simple is important to me. Any suggestions? Makin' It Happen! Maria

Hi Maria, I do the same with chicken breast, I put several split breasts in the crock pot and let them cook all day slowly, then I remove the skin and bone, pack them up into little containers and put them in the fridge. I packed up my chicken, and now I'm cooking a bottom round roast. I usually eat egg whites, chicken, beef and also like fat-free cottage cheese, canned tuna, baked fish, lean ham, seafood for proteins and my carbs usually come from oatmeal, hot oat bran cereal, Ezekial sprouted grain tortillas (they don't have flour in them), potato, fruit, Fat free plain yogurt, etc. I try to keep the food as "whole" as possible because I find it more satisfying. And then I try making little yummy recipes with them :-)

Day 1 - upper body BFL workout
Meals:
#1 Protien Shake + apple
#2 egg whites w/fresh salsa + whole grain tortilla with 1 tsp natural peanut butter
#3 chicken + potato + cup of homemade, very low-fat veggie soup
#4 beef + potato + cup of veggie soup
#5 chicken + oatmeal with 2 Tbl fat free plain yogurt and 2 strawberries
#6 Fat free cottage cheese + apple + salad with Walden Farms calorie free dressing

Body for Life Forum Message by prgirlnatl (7 posts) at 07:31 PM
I must be going bananas. I'm 34 not 35, but not for long.
I went to the BFL workout and checked out all the exercise demos and picked out the least favorite for tomorrow's upper body. I once read on BFL finalist Cheryl Muhr's blog that she did what she liked the least because those were the exercises she really needed. That's true, the ones I like the least are the ones I need the most. I saved the exercise progress report and food report on my computer that way I can fill in the reports ahead of time and be prepared for the week. I can print it and take it to the gym with me.
For tomorrow's meals: #1 Myoplex Lite, #2 1c. Old fashioned oatmeal & 2 eggs (1whole, 1 egg white), meal #3 small can of tuna with 1 slice w/wheat toast & 1/2 c. peas, #4 fat free yogurt & fat free cottage cheese, #5 3 slices of roast beef on a w/wheat low carb tortilla w/ mustard, #6 chicken breast, brown rice & steamed broccoli.
HometownNVgirl, Living for my goal, motiv8me, and anybody else out there starting tomorrow, shall we call ourselves Team Make It Happen? We can meet here at BFL support.

I am 5'7 245 with 25%BF
I had to go back and do the calorie counting thing and come to find out I was eating more than I should I have.
According to Dr. Hussman I should be intaking 1650-2100 cal a day for fat loss. So here are my stats for the first three meals for ratio of calories/carbs/ protein/fat
976cal
96.5 carbs
142 Protein
15.5 Fat
So I should come close to:
1952 cal
284 protein
193 carbs
30g fat
After the first three meals my body feels hungary around the 2:15 mark
MY food includes Oatmeal..Brown Rice..Chicken Breast...Protein Drink(with water)Plain Rice Cakes ..Egg Whites so I know I got the right food and amount now its time to wait it out.
Thoughts on ratio's...Is it where I should be?
Thanx

You were right, we tend to be more critical of oursselves, seeing what is left to be accomplished as opposed to what has already been accomplished.
You ARE making great progress, and I certainly see very noticable changes :)

So I am entering the middle of my challenge and I really need someone to send personal messages everyday. I have begun to slack and I don't want to fail. I am 26 (I have about ten pounds I want to lose) and I can get pretty hard on myself. Just looking for someone to help me find clarity and keep me focused on my goals. So if you are interested and wouldn't be bothered by my daily messages - send me a message or post here. Thanks:)

Hey girls, don't forget to write down some goals tonight if you get a chance. I believe the closer we stick to the program the better results we'll get...after all this is a physical AND mental transformation.
This is taken from the BFL Journal. Write down any hopes, wishes, and dreams that you would like to see come true as a result of completing this 12 week BFL program. Label this page "My Dreams" ie,
build muscle, less stress, be happy, healthy heart, be a better parent, be strong, be confident, better self esteem, look great in a bathing suit, have more energy, lose fat, etc, etc.
Your next page should contain specific goals you want to accomplish. Try to have at least 5. Jot them down beginning with I will....lose X pounds of fat, gain X pounds of muscle, have an X in waist, etc.
Good Luck and sweet dreams.
Makin' It Happen, Maria

Any other females having weight loss success in all the wrong places?? I know from experience that I lose on the top first and later on the bottom where I really need it. But, I didn't expect to shrink even further across my chest. Kind of a bummer....
I wonder if any of those creams and pills you see in commercials work?

I dont know if they do but I sure wish something would....LOL!

It's the first thing to lose - I was DD now B - A depending on style ... opps ... Partner not happy with small boobs but he will live with it for small girlfriend - anyway I wear padded bras so he's the only one (and my mom) who knows how bad it is.
Saving for boob job when I have 30th Birthday! Sorry no special pills here girls.

I was just thinking about that today! Mine are GONE! I barely had a B cup to begin with and now, MAYBE and A? I go back and forth on the boob job. Hubby doesn't care either way. My luck, I'd get butchered or they'd be lopsided or something! Oh well, a small price to pay for great health and a great body!

Hi gang!
For the last few weeks, I've been feeling kind of like the space shuttle stuck on the launch pad waiting for the weather to clear or mechanical problems (i.e. illness) to be fixed...anxiously waiting for the first opportunity to launch... Well, I finally got an opportunity to "fire my rockets"... Even though I'm still coughing up a little stuff from my lungs, I felt well enough on Friday to do a short upper body workout. And this afternoon I rode my bike for the first time in weeks. Although my short ride didn't do much physically, emotionally it was a real boost...it felt great to be back in the saddle! As usual I found myself working through the issues necessary to get myself in the right frame of mind to restart my fifth BFL challenge...
"All right buddy, be careful...you haven't been on the bike for a while. I'm sorry Jim you had such a rough time the last several weeks. And I'm sorry that you gained back some of the weight you fought so hard to lose last year. But with all the issues going on in your life the last few months along with the medical challenges, perhaps it was inevitable that you were going to take a hit. But that doesn't matter now... What matters now is that you're back on the bike...and back in the gym. You could've just given up a long time ago and probably nobody would have blamed you. But here you are climbing yet another hill on your bike... I know it has been hard accepting the fact that your long-time friends let you down... And I know Jim that you expected that after all these years after the divorce that you would've been remarried and had a family again... But sometimes in life all you really have to lean on is faith in yourself...and faith in God. And this is one of those times... So just keep on pedaling... We'll get those extra pounds off and before you know it you'll be on the cruise with your BFL buddies...and in the best shape of your life! Doesn't that sound great?! You betcha!!!"
I could tell that I have a long way to go to get my conditioning back and certainly my short ride today wasn't going to make much difference... at least not in a physical sense. I probably only rode my bike for about 3 or 4 miles, but I have to admit that from an emotional standpoint I felt like a covered a lot more ground than that...
Thanks for listening...
Jim

No worries everyone, I know it can only get better from here. As I think back and remember all that I have been thru, OMG, how did I make it? How am I still standing here willing to put forth the effort to do another 12 weeks. I can answer that, because I am a winner, and even though my son is Autistic, I have to succeed, there is no other alternative! That is my choice. My son needs me and I need to be healthy in order to handle all of this that is thrown my way, and I am sure they meaning the (doctors, Navy) are not done with me either but I MUST BE PREPARED! So please say a little prayer for me,
this is what tomorrow looks like for me:
0630: Drop son off at CDC
0700: Bus comes to get him and I follow the bus to his new Preschool
0715-0745 ( mommy is taking pictures of first day at school) BEST PART OF THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
0800- Off to the gym I go!
0930- back home, clean up
1100: Appointment to get Taxes done
1:00 Appointment at Tripler to drop off some paperwork
3:30 Appointment with Department of Health for financial support
5:30 pick my son up from CDC

are black beans bfl friendly.
100 calories
.5g fat
20g carbs
7g protein
can i put this on grilled chicken for a meal???
thanks
Body for Life Forum Message by Robin78745 (80 posts) at 05:52 PM
Beans are listed as a carb in the BFL book; they're also protein rich compared to other carbs. I'd say go for it. I occasionally use all bean dishes as a carb/protein combo.

I know this has been discussed before, so I apologize asking again. For those who have been (or are currently being) successful with their challenge, and are supplementing some of their meals with protein bars, can you tell me which ones you are eating? I try to stay away from them, but when I crave something sweet, these seem to satisfy that craving. I'm worried about getting the wrong kind, and hindering my progress. Thanks for your time.

I am a male and use protiein bars with abot 35gms of protein and about 26 grams of carbs, 300 calories. Various brands and flavors...
My girfriend is also doing the chalenge with me 5'2 about 130, we called EAS/BFL and she has been using the BFL bars, they said for her about 15 grams of protein, 200 calories... is about right. I've read both positive and negative on these, but they seem to work fine for her. And she loves the taste
Both of us limit ourselves to one bar per day and its typically our mid morning meal #2.
I would say as long as it isn't high in calories, sodium or too high in carbs, has about 15-20 grms of protein, and taste well...go for it.
Good Luck !

My favourite protein bar is now available in the States - well, they moved the whole company down to Seattle! So have a look out for Kinetix bars. They are 170 cal, 17 g protein and 17 g carbs and 5 g of fat (my fat recollection is approximate). Truly 40-40-20 bars. They come in Chocolate, peanut, and apple flavour. (I have a huge apple flavour order on its to me way now.)
Check out their website http://www.kinetixliving.com
The site has recently been updated for its new American audience. I encourage you to check out the products and recipes - the exercise program borrows on BFL but I think it is a softer approach.

I am thrilled to say that today I completed my first week of my first challenge. There were many temptations in regard to food and i successfully said no to all of them and even today, on my free day, i didn;t have the urge to eat anything i shouldn't have and i was ok with that. I did feel guilty that I did not work out today but i did play in the 12 in of snow we got this morning with my son.
Anyway, i am feeling good and have this week's meals and exercises planned out. oh, and i lost 2.5 lbs this week! Good luck to everyone this week! -michelle
Body for Life Forum Message by Jennifer A (363 posts) at 10:53 PM
Excellent work Michelle! Eventually you won't feel like you are having to avoid or deprive yourself. You will have found acceptable alternatives for your food choices that are really satisfying to you. This just takes time and experimentation.
I picked up some Mann's stringless Sugar Snap Peas and wow! what a treat! They taste fantastic and have a wonderfully satisfying crunch to them. These should be balanced with a protein source like cottage cheese to balance the carb that they are...but they also good for fiber!

I was wondering if anyone out there has had a c-section and was successful in seeing progress in their lower abs. I've had two. I'm about to start my 7th week and I'm feeling like my only choice would be to have a tummy tuck. I've tried leg lifts, reverse crunches, ball crunches....etc., etc.
Help
Body for Life Forum Message by justdoit (300 posts) at 10:40 PM
Ive had two as well. 1st one was a 10.5 lb baby and the second one was for twins that totaled 12 lb 14 ozs. I still have loose skin, but when I wear a dress or have a shirt tucked in, it looks flat. I can't wear anything that shows mid drift yet. I am trying creams and stuff, but the skin still looks like a prune. I am a little afraid of elective surgery but I have said often that if I ever have to have a hysterectomy that I would have a tuck at the same time. Keep at it. You CAN get to a point where it doesn't show under clothes. Good Luck
Body for Life Forum Message by Pure Ambition (13 posts) at 10:47 PM
My first was because my son was breech and the second was because my daughter was a preemie that needed to be delivered asap because she stopped growing. It just seems that the extra pooch above that beautiful scar I've acquired never seems to diminish. I'll keep dreaming for that six pack. P.S. Your pics look great. I could never tell you had a c-section!

My one request would be to insert original message with reply. When I say something stupid ha ha and someone replies back...I have no idea what they are LOL'ing me about. I forget what I say that soon into the PM...ha, Otherwise, I think it's cool that we even have the option! :)
Body for Life Forum Message by Webmaster (299 posts) at 03:22 PM
Actually there is a way to see this you may not know about that's even better... if someone replied to your original message and you go to read it, you will see a button under the message that says 'Previous'. Using the previous button, you can go all the way back to the beginning of the conversation through multiple messages (as long as they haven't been permanently deleted). You can then just cut and paste anything you want to quote from the previous messages.

Just a note to let you know that if you add someone to ignore it will now block PMs from them as well. You can ignore someone by mail by clicking on the [Ignore] link next to their name where it's shown in the PM to you when you read the message.
