I have both the Creative Jukebox III (40 Gig of memory) and the MuVo TX FM (250 MB). When I do short stuff or have time to put on just the right music, I use MuVo. When I'm in a rush and want variety, I use Jukebox. Jukebox is pricey, but I'm a music junkie and I have WAAAAAY too much music to settle for a small player. I am now eyeing the 60 Gig iPod because it's smaller, though. Anyone have this one?

Thank god for you guys! I am currently having my 7 week freak out! I wanted to quit for about 1/2 a second today. But, now, I'm alright! I realized that I could quit alltogether and go back to being fat AND out of shape. OR!!! I could suck it up and keep on going! I have 5 weeks left! What am I crying about?? A tiny little set back!! THANK YOU for posting this! I really needed this today!!! It's my free day, and I have enjoyed it like normal. (Not... pig out until I wanted to puke! NOT... eat nothing at all so I would lose the weight I gained this week.) Tomorrow... it's back to it!

Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (788 posts) at 05:17 PM:
After all, WHAT do you have to lose (apart from weight :P) Would you rather really be over weight and unhappy and back where you were for the rest of your life - or would you like to be able to honestly say you tried and did your best? Being the self imposed perfectionist that I am, I couldnt live with myself unless it was the latter. keep hanging in there - soon youll be doing some smaller size pants dance like spank did today :D

Ok - I'll admit ...the past two days have been terrible for me... both yesterday and today have been "binge" days for me (TERRIBLE!) and I haven't worked out yesterday on my cardio day..... two factors: a cold and I had friends from NY visit us over the weekend that we haven't seen in over two years!  I feel terribly guilty! I've just wasted a whole weeks worth of "Clean" eating *LOL* ........I'm ready to start week 4 with a BANG!

I guess we all have our moments. :-)

Jim, I lost my 100 without taking any of those things. But, from speaking with my mentors, they say that each product can affect individuals differently. Has anyone tried these? I picked up a bottle at GNC (they sell just about anything these days), they were a bit expensive, $80 for 90 caps. I took on this morning and they got me cranking!!!! They suggest one in the am and one in the afternoon, but not after 3 or 4 because it will keep you up. They are kind of like an ECA Stack but around here you cannot sell anything with epdedra (sp?) in it.

I went to the store today and bought a bunch of staple stuff. Fat Free mayo, FF cheese, FF ranch dressing. etc. I could not get myself to buy the brown rice or wheat pasta yet. When I read the package and they said 30+ carbs I started to sweat and put the packages back as if they were hot coals. I will try again on my next trip to the grocery store. To think I used to eat a box of pasta at a time with lots of gravy (pasta sauce for those outside of NY) and cheese two or three times a week before low-carbing. WOW!

Here is my free day experience today...I ate my free meal early this morning because I was sick of being sick at end of free day. So I ate a few bites this morning. Cured me for the day got it out of my system. Needless to say after a few hours my body is freaking out already and rejecting the food as if it were poison. I enjoyed it for a moment. Thank god I got it out of my system. I am feeling more liberated from the forces of junk food. As you can tell I was a junk food junkie BAD. So these moments are very profound to me. So on the note enjoy your freeday Tai! Maybe you have just come so far it is not even that significant to you any more :) Hehehehe. I was planning on having shakes (homemade) for breakfast because I want to minimize the cooking I have to do, plus I don't like eating eggs in the morning. Does this sound like an okay shake to have, or is there something I should add/take away/etc.? Also, I would be working out in the morning on an empty stomach, so this shake would be my first meal of the day. 1 scoop Vanilla Whey Protein Powder 1 Tbsp. Natural Peanut Butter 16 oz. nonfat milk (the recipe I got said to add 16 oz... should I add less? ) 1 small banana 3 ice cubes. Blend and drink. Does this sound okay? Thanks for your help!

Body for Life Forum Message by nlp1669 (74 posts) at 10:03 PM:
I am not a big shake drinker but the recipe you have does sound okay. The 16 oz sounds like a lot to drink - maybe try 12 oz to start would be my only suggested tweak.

Body for Life Forum Message by silvertalons33 (74 posts) at 10:11 PM:

Now, Fit, hear me out...I ate cottage cheese for the first 3 weeks and lost 2 lbs. per week along with inches and body fat. This past week, I did not eat any because I didn't want to go to the grocery. I only lost a pound and an inch or more. Coincidence...maybe. I will let you know after this week. Hubby and I have a theory....there are a few foods that your body has to work harder to break down and we think cottage cheese is one of them. Don't believe me? Try this experiment with me!

Hey y'all! I don't know how you might want to incorporate this, maybe on free day, but I was craving chocolate this week and didn't want to royally blow it. So, I bought a box of Fiber one cereal, opened one bag of that and heated some semi-sweet choc. chips in the microwave. I stirred in one bag of the fiber cereal and then put them by teaspoons on wax paper. I ate two with a bottle of water and I felt full and my choc. craving was gone. If you have a Costco or sams type club near you go there. They have a great sset up right now on sale there for around $500. Very versitle plus the benefit of safe machine...

The funny thing is I have been doing the program for 4 weeks with just a little set of dumbells, 2,4,6,8 lbs and a pair of 15s. and an old tread. So that proves you don't need to spend a lot of money. Good luck with your program TJ!!!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by fitb42long (524 posts) at 04:15 PM:
It's a myth. With shaving, it may grow back coarser, but not thicker. With waxing, over time, it actually grows in thinner and finer.

shaving courser and darker.... basically this is the description I have for waxing.. Take Hypoxy or superglue and put some in duct tape. Then apply to the hairry area..now let it set up for a few moments or minutes depending on the duration of set time. Now in one easy motion, RIP that somofbisquit right off!!!!!!! while screaming like a banshee.. Went through it yesterday.. and let me say OOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!!!! So there you have it.. Now my wife just gets the pits and the nether region cleaned up and says it hurts I say square inches baby!!!! There is alot more on this back than your pits and nether area!!!! and time wise 5-10minutes for her 30-40 minutes for me....short pain, long pain...

Body for Life Forum Message by drjlbaileyii (79 posts) at 12:00 PM: New High!! and Rededication
Alrighty everyone!! I have 5 weeks left in this bad boy of a program for my first ever completed 12 week challenge!!!! My wife and I went to the gym this AM and instead on doing the usual cycle I decided to do the treadmil(gerbil wheel) to test my tuesday/thursday runs and observe where I am in aspects of speed. So I get on and say lets test this newer model called Jerry2k5. Start out with 4.0mph for a start. just to get the belly shaking a bit. Not to bad..since this is easy anyways for me I will add.. Ok lets take it up a notch..6.5mph..pretty easy....not winded..when I started 7 weeks ago this was my 10!! alright lets hit it up some more..7.5.. alright this is easy for me...cool no wind loss here.. alrighty....lets try 8.5...wow I run harder than this on my HIIT on the road...this is pretty easy now..cool.........Back down to 4 for a minute..through the same cycle againX2.. no problem....alright lets try the 1 and 1 cycle now.. 4 mph one minute..now 9.0mph one minute.. 4mph---9.5mph...hey this ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! finshed with the 4 mph cool down. Alright I freaking ran at 9.5mph and was not all that winded!!! I was working hard and it was about a 9.5/10 on the scale.....So next time I try this I will go 10 or 11 or 12... Refreshed to feel that I have come this far in 7 weeks!!!! So I am now rededicated to finish this and change even more. I am down to 227 from 235 so 8 pounds total weight loss but I know my BF is down and my LM is up. I am pressing a ton more weight than I started with hitting all time new 10's each time. I try to hit new 10's on all my exercises each time.atleast by 5 lbs or more.. this is my goal!!! i am getting to the limits on a couple of machines that I feel I do not want to go higher on ie leg press...it is kind of scary when you think I am pressing nearly a 1/2 ton! yikes.. I hope the machine does not break and crush me..well Like I said lets all get back to it get focused stay on it.. and FINISH THIS BAD BOY!!!!!!!!! To the newbies.. keep on it!! it is worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have used the program called BodyAdvance, it is really useful and makes it easy to keep track of workouts. You can also track meals pretty well although I have gotten pretty lazy about doing this. The best part is, when you're done a cycle you can print out reports for all your results for exercises, meals, and measurements and save it in a pdf file. It calculates body fat measurements too if you enter the I've been using this for a while now and it's indispensable in my view. You can order it on Handango or other similar sites, plus there's an online manual at www.bodyadvance.com. Highly recommended!

Tracy, congratulations on setting lofty goals! Let’s see, you asked for motivation, support and accountability. You know that you always get motivation and support from the terrific folks that post here. But my question for you is; how can we help you in the accountability request? I think that if you want help in accountability, then we need to know (1) your plan for your daily exercise routine (2) your plan for your daily diet goals (3) we need a daily or weekly update as to how you executed your plan (4) if your plan is meeting your goals or do you need to fine-tune your plan. You know that we are behind you every step of the way. You know that we will help you in any way we can. But I think we need to better understand in order to really provide the accountability you requested. Remember, when you stand with that trophy above your head, you’ll have tons of BFL’ers next to you in spirit. So, exactly, what do you need from us?

Brace yourself, tough love coming up!! Monica ... I haven't looked at your pictures yet, but I will and I'll tell you what I see. I have something more important to say, and it's going to be hard to hear: You said the progress you've made, the improvements in your health, pretty much aren't worth anything and that all you want is to look different. But I believe you've also said in earlier posts (and implied here) that you don't want to be judged by your outward appearance, because the real you is still an athlete and strong and capable. Monica -- YOU are judging YOURSELF. You have so many friends on here who have answered your call for support and love and help. Our arms are reaching out to you, but you need to reach up just enough to grasp on! The self-talk you've written here is painful, painful to read and painful for you. Some people can stop that cycle themselves, other people have to seek professional help. Take some time to consider which type of person you are and make that change, because if you do not, you will not succeed. And no one is going to let you quit. Consider this: You said you want to go back and slap your size-14 self silly for thinking you were "so fat." Do you want to have that same thought a few weeks from now when you've given up on BFL and gained back those 19+ inches and 15 pounds, regained your anxiety and let-down your now-stronger heart? No, you don't. Hon ... you are doing a darn good job of "acting as if," keeping up with the eating and exercise and sharing your scary feelings with all of us. But you have to be honest with yourself and love yourself enough to take some care with how you speak to yourself. It takes 100 compliments from strangers to wipe out one negative thought from your own brain. You're going to keep getting well-deserved compliments, but you need to hold up your end of the bargain, too. :-) Now -- I'll go look see at those brave, awesome photos and let you know what changes I see. :-) Big Hug, Karenna

Body for Life Forum Message by Cheetara (412 posts) at 02:48 PM:
OK -- Now that I've seen the pictures. Here's what I see: 1. Biggest change I see is in the firmness of those calves -- there is some great muscle tone showing in there! 2. In the side view, you can really see a change in your arm, especially your tricep. Notice how much tighter it is, how much more back (scapula area) you can see because your arm has firmed and isn't covering it. 3. Yep, your bum is taking shape and lifting. 4. Your chest is really lifting, especially in the side view. 5. Your face is slimmer, and would look a lot more so if you didn't scowl :-) -- but I totally understand scowling during photos, did it all through childhood. :-) Do you have the Eating for Life cookbook? If so, look at Mina Hobbi (sp?), her profile is probably quite similar to yours. You don't even have to consider whether you want to be as ripped as she is now, but just look at the change she made. She did it with the program that you are LEARNING and succeeding on -- right now, six weeks in. Press on, girl, press on!!!!

I know for certain the day my last cycle started -- Jan 10th, which was my first day on BFL. I suppose it *could* be related to BFL, but I doubt it. I've read that women that work out intensely may lose their cycles, but as far as I understand it, that's cross-country/marathon runners etc. Not people that are working out for an hour tops a day. Before pregnancy I was never regular. Didn't start again until my son was about 7 months old (nursing). I've been regular for about 4 cycles, but I think I'm probably just returning to old habits. On the other hand, although we're not trying for another baby, we're not *preventing* either. Who knows? I tested 2 days ago and got a BFN. So I'll wait it out another week.

silvertalons, I had heard that about mattresses, I was really just grasping at a reason for the back pain. It couldn't POSSIBLY have had to do with all the weight I'm carrying around! Body for Life Forum Message by fitb42long (524 posts) at 09:47 AM:
Hmm, I had the same experience. I had knee pain and shoulder pain. I think the knee pain was just from being fat. The shoulder pain seemed to be from laying on my side to sleep and the weight of my arm hanging down kind of putting stress on it-or it could've just been from being fat too. Anyway, the first couple weeks on bfl with the weights, these things were actually worse. But, since about week 3-bye bye shoulder and knee pain. And I'm jogging and running!!! And I still don't have knee pain!!!!

I am almost finished my meal replacement supplements and I'm not sure what to replace them with. I had been taking Myoplex and then USN ProteinPlex and now I'm nearly out I don't know what to take. I have seen good prices for Myoplex Diet and Myoplex Lite, does anyone know the difference? My BF suggested that I just take a protein shake but I'd really like to make sure I get in all my vitamins and minerals. Can anyone advise what the best thing is to do? This supplementing really confuses me! My goals are to shed the fat I have, which isn't too much and build some nice lean muscle, like the majority of women I don't want to bulk up too much though. Thanks in advance for your help! Yvonne x

Body for Life Forum Message by TJ (78 posts) at 09:00 AM: Check off on more goal!!
One of my goals when I started BFl was to be able to wear an ‘athletic fit’ suit. Well, as of yesterday, I had no suits that fit me anymore so my wife and I went shopping. I picked out a nice black suit but there were no suit coats my size (I have a 38 inch sleeve length, so I need talls). The girl waiting on us was so cute because she said, “Well, those suits are for ‘younger’ people.” So I asked her exactly what that meant. She said, “They have an athletic cut to them.” Well, the gauntlet had now been tossed in my direction. So, asked her if she had any coats my size in the back room. She went and found one and it fit like a glove! I had reached my goal of wearing an athletic fit!! I had a smile from ear to ear! Unfortunately, I couldn’t buy the suit as they had no pants with a 34 inch pant length. But at least I fit in the athletic cut jacket!! Check off on more goal!! Thank you BFL!

Even got a real dr. perrer, instead of Diet or water. It was nice! Then when out at night with my husband and daughter and where does she want to go, Taco Bell, Ok so I do it over again. This morning, My husband wakes me up, and says, baby since today is your free day how about going out after church, anyplace you like! I said, awe baby, thanks but I can't do it twice, i counted yesterday as my free day, now poor darling is sittin in the kitchen trying to hid all the food he fixed for a big surprise breakfast! Thread: Can I Explain Myself? (433 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by fitb42long (524 posts) at 09:32 AM: Can I Explain Myself?
O.K., I feel a need to clarify the thread I started in the "Site News and Suggestions" forum. I asked about the webmaster putting a filter on to block curse words. Some people seemed to get somewhat annoyed by that and also misunderstood my intentions, so I wanted to explain further. First, I meant block actual curse words not this thing-$&@#. I do that myself in lieu of curse words, just like in real life I say heck or crap instead of the real deal. Second, I was mostly meaning the big daddy curses like the F-word and GD, not the milder ones. I try not to curse very often, although sometimes I slip like if I bang my head on a cabinet door corner or something like that. My husband curses a lot, which I don't care for, but he doesn't do it around our kids, and it's not as if I can force him not to do it. However, even he doesn't say GD in front of me, because he knows how much it bothers me. Third, when a few people mentioned that they had read a lot of posts and hadn't seen any foul language, I said that I could name which ones I meant. I was saying that I would name the THREAD, not the person's name. Finally, I said in my original post and I'll say again-I know that cursing doesn't offend everyone. It does offend me and I find it unnecessary, but I know everyone doesn't feel that way. I was simply proposing the idea and I don't think that I am wrong to ask a simple question. I think that I have every right to put an idea out there for the webmaster to consider. So, I hope that clears up any misunderstandings that people may have had about my original post. I'm really not a jerk and I feel that some people maybe took it that way. That's unfortunate, but I'm not going to backpedal about my feelings on the subject.

Body for Life Forum Message by nurse36 (55 posts) at 09:37 AM:
I'm behind you 100%. I'm no angel, but I try very hard no to cuss.... except for the occasional head doink! This is not the place for that sort of language. Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 10:08 AM:
Hi, Fib42, I am taking some few minutes here to apologize because I have been using the word GD one's. First, my language is french and english is not my primary language. So I know that in one of my thread I I use the word God Dammit, but God Dammit in my mind in french was meaning O WOW. So I am sorry if you have been offended by my sentence and I did not knew that GD was blessing word. I thought it was use for an exclamation, surprises thought. I Hope you will never have to speak french to express your self. lol If ever it would have happen to you, I guess I would have e-mail you secretly just asking you if you were knowing the meaning about it and I wouldn't have cry a river all over a forum board and especially when that person has wrote the GD word only once. SO I APOLOGIZE FOR THE GD word that I used without really knowing that it was a blessing term's. Have a nice day.

I think this is silly. You see this attempt at censorship all over and now it hits here. A few posts with some bad words and it puts you into a tail-spin like this? I'm curious, if you hear a bad word in public do you cover your ears and run in circles? If you don't like what the person said, pray for their soul and move on to another post. I don't like it when I hear about women's periods but you don't see me saying I want what people say censored. I hope the webmaster does not censor in any way what the users post. It is their words and their feelings, let them post.

Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 12:03 PM:
I guess there will always be some barrier with language or culture. We do have some Europeen friends, well who are french too, and our french from their french language, beleive it or not is so different from ours. Sometimes I have difficulty catching what they are saying even though it is and french and they are using words that are blessing for us, but for them those words are okay. That's for sure when people get on the net and are discussing all together, there will be some terms or some kind of barrier, culture and everything. So I guess it's all about trying to understand instead of blasting at first sight. Anyhow, hope I did not offended more then a person. Will pay attention.

Come ON guys :) this is a fun forum. As someone that moderates a chat for a living - just remember there are all sorts of people with all sorts of morals and ideals that frequent this forum as well as ourselves. I always tell my users to make sure that the language they use is appropriate for everyone. Fit is not asking that everyone stop saying this or that - she is only asking the webmaster if he can incorporate tools into the forum, so if SHE does not want to see someone take the lords name in vain then she doesn't have to. Not once did I see her accuse anyone and ask them not to talk a certain way - she is just asking for tools so she can enable herself :) Most forums/chats on the internet have the ability where people can mute other users or filter words that they do not want to hear. It does not mean that people cannot use them - it just gives people an option. Please try and keep that in mind and keep things in context before you go ripping someone to pieces for trying to make suggestions that would work for them. I am so disappointed in your post Signalguy. That's just mean.

Body for Life Forum Message by Signalguys (43 posts) at 12:10 PM:
Nico, I would not worry about it. You should not have to think about censoring yourself because someone gets upset over a few bad words. It's not like every other word out of people's mouths are bad. Be yourself and post.

Tai-Kee said: I am so disappointed in your post Signalguy. That's just mean. It is what I felt when I read the post, I hate censorship in any degree with a passion (as you can tell). Now are you telling me that I need to censor my posts so they do not offend anyone? One or two "F" words or a "GD" or two out of the huge number of posts and we have to deal with this? I say name the people that use profanity frequently, don't just mention the thread, and let the Webmaster deal with them.

Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (788 posts) at 12:26 PM: Re:

Nope. Please actually read what I write before formulating your reply.

Not asking that people censor what they say at all!  Personally, I have a mouth that is equal to a sewer rat at times.

What fit is asking for, and what I stated in my earlier post is this.

I do not personally see, how incorporating MORE options into the forum that you would not even HAVE to use could possibly be infringing on your idea of censorship.

Nico, the reason that I didn't send you a private message is that I don't know you very well or anything and I didn't want you to feel that I was personally attacking you. Fit 42, you were right for asking a question and it is okay that you did ask the questions. We are leaving in a free opinions. I guess that you did already ask the question into the other site thread for new idea, but this morning you ask again the same thing into a new thread but getting into more details like the GD word telling that even your Husband never mention that word in front of you, It was so much blessing and then I realize that I was the one and I think the ONLY ONE who did used the GD word here and I have been feeling really reject for having using this term without knowing what I was saying. I guess that this new Start thread of this morning was getting much more into the details of the GD and how offending it was and then even your husband never dare to mention this infront of you. So I was really feeling unwelcome infront of you when I realized that I was THE ONE. But it's okay, I have learn something. Once again my apologize, and we all have the right to ask something. Take care

Nico, I just wanted to explain further because in the other thread, some people misunderstood what I was asking for. The only reason I specifically mentioned GD and F-word is because those are the main ones I'd want to filter. I'm really sorry if I made you feel bad or if I made you feel embarassed or singled out or rejected in any way. That was totally not my intention. I was just trying to explain what I meant by the first post and I did it in this forum instead of the other one, because this one is where the majority of members come the most. And you're right-up to this point, your post is the only one where I saw GD. But, that doesn't mean it would be the last time someone used it. That's why your post gave me the idea about the filter. My post was not meant to make anyone feel bad or to make anyone feel inadequate because of the differences in language. I was just clarifying my meaning from the other post so that people wouldn't have the wrong idea about what I meant there. See? I speak perfect English and I still get misunderstood. Don't feel bad about being misunderstood when English is your second language. That doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with you. I hope you feel better and accept my apology.

What other post did I make that was rude? Oh I know what it was.. it was when the person was giving out incorrect information. This is generally such a positive place, and the last place I would expect someone to be personally attacked for her opinion. Is it even necessary to add sighing, eye rolling, and head banging against walls when you disagree with someone? Respect is what it's about, especially on this board, and I hate to see that fall by the wayside. No one should be afraid of personal attacks here. I'm a little disappointed in the way some people have reacted here. Let's take Tracy's advice and move on! Jess

Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 05:37 PM:
I don't see why this thread is getting wo wild. Fit has make a request and it is her right and everybody's right to make a request. I discover that I was the only ONE responsible for using the GD word once without really knowing the real sense of it. I apologize to Fit, she understand my lack of understanding, then she apologize too. And I don't have any bad feeling for that situation and for Fit, none of us was intentionnally trying to not be correct with their search of finding a solution or finding a reason why the GD word was so innapropriate. Anyhow, time for me to move on.

Body for Life Forum Message by fitb42long (524 posts) at 06:10 PM:
Signalguys, I have to say that I'm really confused about your reaction to this. I don't know what I did to garner such animosity from you, but I don't feel that I have been disrespectful to anyone, nor have I intended to step on anyone's toes by asking the question that I did and by posting something to clarify my original position. I don't know why you're shouting so loudly about "free speech" and then basically telling me to apologize for very respectfully asking a question regarding an idea that I had to correct something without infringing on anyone else's rights. By the way, you can call me by name and stop referring to me as "the poster". My name is Mequet. I wasn't rude to you and I'd appreciate the same consideration from you. I'm not going to add anything else to this conversation, so I hope you're done insulting me.

Body for Life Forum Message by Signalguys (43 posts) at 07:44 PM:

She said people were annoyed about the request and thought people misunderstood her and so she felt compeled to explain herself here. And as far as your telling me to back off, you need to back off yourself. We have moved on from this all.

Thread: I need some support! (122 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by nurse36 (55 posts) at 09:33 AM: I need some support!
Okay guys! I need you! I have just finished my 7th week. I feel great. I feel like I LOOK great! I have been dropping BF at about 1% per week for the last few weeks. This week, I changed up my diet a little bit by adding some more calories... all authorized foods. I GAINED almost 2% body fat back! I know, water weight and blah de blah. I also noticed this past week that my workouts are getting too easy. I have a few weights at home, but they are not heavy enough for me anymore. My BF doesn't want me to buy a real homegym yet because we are building a new house and we don't want to move it again. I can go to the university to workout, but it's a bunch of 20 year old Spring Breakers! UGH! Besides, the hours for the gym are not at all convenient. (They don't open until 10am on Saturday!) There's NO WAY I'm going to quit! Can anyone offer some suggestions???

Body for Life Forum Message by fitb42long (524 posts) at 09:44 AM:
Hmmm, you could go and buy just a set of weights. I got a set at Target that has the following: barbell 2 dumbbell handles 4 10 lb. plates 6 5 lb. plates 6 2 1/2 lb. plates It was only 38 bucks and then you won't have to buy a whole gym, but you'll have more weights to use. Hope this helps you out-oh, and the barbell itself weighs 25 lbs. Hang in there!

Body for Life Forum Message by nurse36 (55 posts) at 11:01 AM:
Okay. I checked it out online. I don't see any barbells. I'm going to check out some sporting goods stores today. I think my BF will understand if I decide to get a few more weights now. Maybe I'll just buy a bench, a barbell, and some plates like you suggested! Thanks!

Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 11:17 AM:
I know that there is some kind of dumbells that have all the sizing in only one dumbells. Hard to explain, but you remove some little plate on those dumbells and those dumbells can really be heavier. I would have to check out where I see it on the net. If you want you can use a big swiss ball to work with. It will be as good as a bench, you'll also being able to train your backs with, rear deltoid with it. And the swiss ball will be good cause you will have to stabilize your core.

Body for Life Forum Message by nurse36 (55 posts) at 11:55 AM:
I am using a swiss ball now for my flies and lat pullovers. I like that. I'm afraid of a safety issue if I am bench pressing heavier weights on there.

Body for Life Forum Message by FattyMcFatterson (98 posts) at 04:07 PM:
Hey, Nurse...do you have a Dick's Sporting Goods near you? If not, come home and visit the one near Fairfield Commons. They have great deals on dumbbells. I work out at home right now until I get a handle on my sleeping schedule. Did you buy the BFL book? It has a great section on exercises.

Body for Life Forum Message by nurse36 (55 posts) at 05:01 PM:
I just got back from Dick's Sporting Goods in Lexington. I love it there! I have made a deal with my BF. I will workout with freeweights at home like I've been doing for 7 weeks now. I bought some heavier freeweights so I'm not breezing through the workouts. We already planned to have a huge workout room in our basement in the new house. (20 X 13 feet) That's 10 months from now. We decided on some great workout equipment for the new house at Dick's today. I will have to use these freeweights until December. Or... I can get up and go to the university fitness center. As much as I dread that, I may just have to show some of those young chickies up! Besides, I doubt there will be that many there at 6am! I'll find out tomorrow morning! I've had a full out pity party for myself today! Thanks for listening to me whine this morning! I have a new found determination. I saw exactly how slacking off can affect my results! It won't happen two weeks in a row!

Body for Life Forum Message by nurse36 (55 posts) at 05:03 PM:
Fatty, Yes! I have the BFL book. I have used it for 7 weeks to keep a little variety on my workouts. I think I really just needed some more weights. I think I'll get a weight bench this week too.

The reason I ask about the community center... we have one here and they have a fitness room that people can use for a small fee each day or month. Just a thought.

Body for Life Forum Message by mrykay1 (21 posts) at 09:49 AM: Body Fat - BLAH
OK - i bought this scale for the house to measure body fat and weight. when i started the challenge it was around 41% with 205-207 lbs fluctuating... now im down to 194.4 and throughtout the last few weeks that BF% has been anywhere between 37% and 41%! today after losing almost 2.5 lbs this week and workouts went perfect (i can feeeeel the muscles everywhere) it read my BF% as 41.4%!!!!!! Is there some trick im missing - like dont drink water within the hour before doing it? or DO drink water? or dont hop on one foot? i mean come on! hahahahhahahahaa I do do it right after the shower (becuase it said to in the instructions - said that being wet allows it to read properly). anyway... im changing the battery and doing it on week 12 if i cant figure it out before then... i know it shouldnt matter so much becuase im seeing and feeling results, but i would like to know in my mind that that number is shrinking too. thanks all for listening and for any thoughts on this! hope everyone is having a wonderful BFL week!!!!!!

Body for Life Forum Message by drjlbaileyii (79 posts) at 10:05 AM:
those type scales are not accurate for bodyfat at all....go by feel, get your BF done at a gym by caliper or underwater to be the most accurate.

Body for Life Forum Message by debwaid61 (21 posts) at 10:09 AM:
Those scales typically are not very accurate. I have an older Tanita and it is about 10% off for me. My PT uses an nice model of Omron BF Analyzer and I bought the lower end model to use at home and it's almost the exact reading as his. So I wouldn't trust your scale. My Tanita has pretty much kept the bodyfat % on me even though I have lost almost 25 pounds in the past year.

Thread: Is anyone else doing the Challenge secretly? (108 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Katy (1 posts) at 10:38 AM: Is anyone else doing the Challenge secretly?
I have done the Challenge once before. I got almost through & it seemed like everyone around me was doing everying in their power to sabotage me. My husband is the worst. He spent $300 for a gym membership for me last April, then he would gripe if I didn't go every day, but at the same time, pile things on me to do so I have no time when the gym is open. This week has been heck. My worst pitfall with eating is sugary foods & they are everywhere! I went "cold turkey" 7 days ago & decided no more sugary snacks. My husband made chocolate cake. He never bakes. After 3 days of walking past it, I threw it out. I came in to use the computer this morning & found Reeses peanut butter cups on the desk. I tossed them in his lap & told him to put them somewhere else. I really need to do this Challenge. I gained back all the weight I had lost and then some after giving up fighting everyone last summer. I had a shoulder injury last fall that really limits my workouts, but I still am doing what I can. I started a new Challenge last Monday & I haven't told anyone. My husband is a fireman & works 24-hour shifts. I have planned my workouts so that I do my weights on days he is at work & cardio on the days he is home. He gets home around 7:30-8am, so I do my cardio REALLY early in the morning the day he comes home. I plan to keep my Challenge a secret. I know it won't be easy & I want to know if anyone else has ever tried something like this? Thanks for your input! Katy

Body for Life Forum Message by personalizeabook (232 posts) at 10:48 AM:
If you find that every time you tell someone that you've started something and they are not being supportive and try to sabotage your challenge....I would personally keep it a secret from them. That's just my opinion. My husband is sorta "in between"..he's supportive (he won't put unauthorized foods under my face) but he will still buy them for himself and eat them around me. He was also a bit a suprised when I told him I was going to wake up early in the morning to do my cardio workouts, his response: "NEVER! There's no way you are going to do this, you're not a morning person, you've tried it before, and it didn't work!".... I proved him wrong and he was impressed :-).  Sometimes  my husband "tests" me to see how strong my will is :-), I surprise him.

However, no matter the amount of "negative" feedback you get from family and friends (I've come accross many negatives), don't let it get to you and keep going at it! You might surprise a few.

Good luck with the challenge!

Body for Life Forum Message by beegee714 (71 posts) at 11:08 AM:
Katy, I'm just sorry that you have to go through that. I don't do the challenge secretly, but I do take some of the supplements secretly. I always hear from my hubby "why are you trying to build muscle? You should just be trying to lose fat." Or my favorite, "You already have enough muscle" He has never had an issue with weight and doesn't "get" it sometimes, but he is supportive in my eating and encourages me to workout when I need to.

Body for Life Forum Message by TJ (78 posts) at 12:20 PM:
Katy, people rarely do things ‘against’ us but normally view the world on how it is impacting them. I guess what I am trying to say is that folks have a negative impact on your life without that being their original intent. Buying a gym membership was nice. Loading extra responsibilities on you relieves him of taking on additional duties and the byproduct of that is less time for you to hit the gym. Explain it that way. Tell hubby that he invested $300 in a gym membership. If he wants you to get to use it only once, he paid $300 per session. If he helps you use it 10 times, the price per visit is $30 per session. So, if he wants to get the most for his money, he’ll let you relieve you of some of those extra duties so you can get to the gym six days per week, thereby increasing the bang for his buck to a mere 96 cents per visit! Also, sometime people intentionally will confront you with foods as a method of testing your resolve. After a few times of you showing them your dedication, they’ll go away and start being an asset vice a liability. But it’ll take time to get them to understand you mean business. By keeping your challenge a secret you’ll receive no support from those around you. Maybe share with others that you have set certain health goals and that you might be asking for their physical and moral support to help you achieve those goals. Tell them that you’d like to keep those goals as ‘your little secret’, but that they’ll see the result in a few months. If they agree to be supportive, politely fine tune their improper behavior when they confront you with ‘bad’ foods or habits. Remind them that they promised to be supportive and, whether or not the understand it, that their current actions are not in line with their promise. And when you really need support, come to this site and talk to the team… they will always help you! Good Luck and stay focused on the new you! TJ

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (218 posts) at 05:27 PM:
I wouldn't say I am keeping anything a secret, really, I'm just not talking about it, LOL! And it's a lot for the same reasons, not just the people trying to sabotage, but the ones who become the food police and watch every bite of food you put in your mouth and demand to know if you should be eating it. I am accountable to no one but me. So. When people at work offer me any food, I generally thank them and turn them down, and if they press me on it, I just say I'm trying to be "good". Last night I went out with some friends, first bowling, and then to a bar. I had Diet Coke while they drank beer. They did try to press me but I just said I wasn't in a drinking mood and the Diet Coke was fine for me. I find there's a lot less pressure on me when I don't tell people specifically what I'm doing, but I still get the support of my friends because they notice the positive changes in me and cheer me on. And I have no food police! =) Jess

Body for Life Forum Message by Tracy711 (236 posts) at 03:41 PM: Warm Sensation
Has anyone ever had a warm sensation in their bicep or any other muscle? I have been getting this warm feeling in my biceps while I am doing nothing. Is this normal???

Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 03:44 PM:
I have never experiment that kind of warm sensation. DUNNO

Body for Life Forum Message by Mahalia (104 posts) at 03:57 PM:
not here.

Body for Life Forum Message by drjlbaileyii (79 posts) at 04:17 PM:
Can be normal. A little description would be necessary. Where in the bicep, does it feel like warm water being pored on it, numbness, heat, tingling, how long does it occur, when does it occur, has it happened before. Any positioning making it worse, better. Anything prior to it occuring that contributes?> I get weird senesations every so often.. nothing big though....Oh left or right???

Body for Life Forum Message by FattyMcFatterson (98 posts) at 04:19 PM:
Tracy...it's lactic acid build-up. The "burning" will diminish as your muscles get used to it. It is perfectly normal.

Body for Life Forum Message by fostermamasmith (45 posts) at 05:45 PM:
No, I don't think so,FattyMc, Lactic acid would only be when you are working the muscle. You know" feeling the burn" Tracy, Dr is right, alot has to be considered here. I get a terrible burn in my forearm, feels like I have too much of the bengay style releif heat cream on me, but I don't have anything on and not doing anything, My Dr says it is arthritts, I been having it since I'm about 20 years old, it never got any better or worse.

Body for Life Forum Message by Cheetara (412 posts) at 09:16 PM:
I had it in my legs when I was pregnant, but it was probably short-term RLS? It was a HOT, pulsating feeling, up high on the outer parts of my thighs. It felt like I was being poked by a small, hot poker, but from the inside. I don't have that anymore, and it's probably not related .. or helpful ... :-P

Thread: How do you calculate your bodyfat % (61 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by fostermamasmith (45 posts) at 04:24 PM: How do you calculate your bodyfat %
does any use the site Mybodycomp.com to calculate your body fat percentage?

Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (788 posts) at 04:25 PM:
Me! :)

Body for Life Forum Message by fitb42long (524 posts) at 04:42 PM:
Yes, I do. From what I've heard from lots of people, it reads high, but it's what I started out using. I've been told that most methods are inaccurate except hydrostatic weighing and calipers, if the person using calipers is really experienced with them. So, if you don't have access to those things, just pick a method and stick to it and look for the general downward trend. That's what I've been doing!

Body for Life Forum Message by nikki (202 posts) at 04:59 PM:
How does mybodycomp work? I haven't checked my BF% yet and I really need to. I guess I should just go to the site, huh?

Body for Life Forum Message by nlp1669 (74 posts) at 05:24 PM:
I use it and do think that it is only 1 to 3% off (meaning more bodyfat%). But then again - my bodyfat % is so high that what's 3%? And yes.... I am more concerned with inches than bodyfat% - but that is another measurement of my progress!

Body for Life Forum Message by froglette (83 posts) at 06:32 PM:
MyBodyComp gives me a ridiculously high number (35), because of my peculiar shape. I use an Omron at the gym, which is a device that calculates body fat using bioimpedence, and Accu-Measure calipers at home. I only measure one place (next to the hip), because the chart that came with the calipers gives me a number consistant with the Omron (~28). If I go for more sites the number comes up ridiculously low (23!--I wish!!!). Go figure. I'd love to get myself weighed hydrostatically or consult a bod pod and see what number that gives me, but I wouldn't know where to go to get it done. Besides, as long as I'm not *confirmed* at the higher numbers I can entertain myself with the very remote possibility that the lower number is actually the correct one :^B

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (218 posts) at 06:36 PM:
I have the accu-measure calipers at home, too, but I have to use them by myself, and I'm pretty sure I'm not doing it right. It tells me, consistently, that I have 21.5% body fat. Uh.... not likely! LOL But at least I know I'm doing it consistently WRONG! So I've been using mybodycomp and whether it's right or not, it's a guage I can follow as one measure of progress.

Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 07:09 PM:
I was using the accu-measure calipers before, but now I love my Omron body fat tools. You don't have to be hydrated to have a good reading. Alot of Bodybuilder's are tracking their progress with it, by having 2 reading from the athele mode, female and male, making an average and substract 1% from the reading.

Thread: my last question of the day, About CLA (77 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by fostermamasmith (45 posts) at 05:06 PM: my last question of the day, About CLA
Ok, well I guess ya'll can see how i am using my free day, on the puter, asking too many questions, sorry LOL My last question is this I am taking EAS CLA, I read an artical that explained that tonalin should be somewhere on the label, that Tonalin brand CLA is best. Tonalin is not mentioned on the EAS bottle of CLA. Should I buy a different kind, I was trying to stick with the EAS and Body for Life stuff

Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (788 posts) at 07:37 PM:
bump - I don't take CLA do I don't know much about it. Anyon else?

Body for Life Forum Message by Jmskelton (115 posts) at 07:50 PM:
I take the EAS brand of CLA. What I would recommend is to compare the ingredients on the label (which I have not yet done) and if they are the same; it's essentially the same product. I read a supplement ebook put out by Will Brink; it's definitely an interesting read and gives the low down on supplements - which ones are full of hype and which ones aren't. CLA is one that is recommended, but one brand over another is not. Hope this helps you. :)

Body for Life Forum Message by fostermamasmith (45 posts) at 07:56 PM:
At walmart they have both EAS CLA which says nothing about Tonalin and a cheap brand that the name says Tonalin CLA I asked the phrymaist and she said she didn't know which was better but thought EAS was a known brand so I bought it

Body for Life Forum Message by Signalguys (43 posts) at 07:56 PM:
Ok, what is CLA and what do you take it for?

Body for Life Forum Message by Jmskelton (115 posts) at 08:04 PM:
CLA is a supplement that enhances fat loss in conjunction with diet and exercise. The product has Conjugated Linoleic Acid and Calcium. The discovery of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) caused a scientific sensation some years ago. This fatty acid found in red meat and cheese showed strong anti-cancer properties, was particularly effective in inhibiting breast and prostate tumors, as well as colorectal, stomach, and skin cancer, including melanoma. Scientists found CLA to be more strongly anti-carcinogenic than other fatty acids. What made CLA especially unique is that even low concentrations significantly inhibited cancer cell growth. CLA supplementation was also shown to improve the lean mass to body fat ratio, decreasing fat deposition, especially on the abdomen, and enhancing muscle growth. To achieve this, CLA reduces body fat is by enhancing insulin sensitivity so that fatty acids and glucose can pass through muscle cell membranes and away from fat tissue. This results in an improved muscle to fat ratio. Compelling evidence indicates that CLA can promote youthful metabolic function and reduce body fat. The unique mechanisms by which this fatty acid protects against disease makes it an important addition to any supplement program. This is why I take CLA.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (218 posts) at 08:07 PM:
Wow! Thanks for that explanation! I think I'm going to look into CLA for myself. Is there a bad side? Any side effects or dangers?

Body for Life Forum Message by Jmskelton (115 posts) at 08:12 PM:
Not that I am aware of - no side effects of taking it here. Thanks. Jeannine

Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 08:49 PM:
The important thing about CLA is being sure that you are getting the 100% Safflower Oil instead of the sunflower oil that will be cheaper in price but cost you in the long run as it will have less of the fat loss ingredients you are looking for. Originally CLA was made fron sunflower oil. After it was discover that Safflower oil was producing much more of the fat loss ingredient than sunflower oil, more compagnies are now more concerned with the effectiveness of their product and are switching to use Safflower Oil. So just make sure about the quality oil.

Body for Life Forum Message by fostermamasmith (45 posts) at 09:27 PM:
thanks both of you, Jeannie and nico, Ya'll gave me all the info I need , I think I do remember seeing one had sunflower and one was something like it, I just looked on the bottle and not only does the EAS CLA not mention Tonalin but it also doesn't tell you salflower or sunflower oil, that's disapointing!

Body for Life Forum Message by nico (62 posts) at 09:31 PM:
Ask the distributor to call the manufacturing guys of the product. That is what I did when I purchase the Cla. It was not written on the bottle, the ladies was not sure, so I told her, call the manufacturing guys, I want to know. So insist that they call the company making the products.

Body for Life Forum Message by fostermamasmith (45 posts) at 09:38 PM:
I just sent an e-mail to EAS asking about the tonalin and also about C4 and CLA, when you look up C3 or CLA, the same exact description shows up but with different prices, so I'll wait to see what they have to say, thanks

Body for Life Forum Message by charladee (29 posts) at 09:39 PM:
I took the EAS CLA and liked it. I am very sensitive to supplements and hate taking pills of any kind. SO...if I take it, it has to be ok. I have had no side effects at all. I liked the EAS brand, really noticed a difference especially on the days I didn't eat that great. BUT...now I got an off brand and I don't feel anything, I may have to take more than bottle says. not sure, gnc brand...but I say it is better than no CLA

Body for Life Forum Message by fostermamasmith (45 posts) at 09:41 PM:
Nico, what kind of CLA are you useing? the EAS brand ? or ??? Sounds like you already did the research i'm trying to do now Above post, I meant C3 not C4

I just had to share with all of you - last week I was posting week 5 pics and bummed that I didn't see much progress (you were all so kind to point out to me what you were seeing) - thanks! Well, anyway - I went shopping this afternoon - wanted to buy a couple new pairs of pants, as my current size 8s are definitely getting quite baggy. I picked out some clothes, the salesperson asked me what size and I said 6. She gave me a funny look and I felt so discouraged - like "bummer she doesn't think I will fit into them...". Well, I tried them on and figured out why the weird look. They were TOO big!!! Long story short, I walked out of there with 3 new pairs of size 4 pants and a BIG, FAT, HUGE smile all over my face!!! :) I am so, so inspired to keep working hard and giving it even more effort in my UBWO tomorrow - 6 weeks to go! :) Kristee

Do any of you find yourself buying clothes that are too small for you to fit into at the present time with the intent to fit into them soon? Or do you just buy as you lose? Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (788 posts) at 05:27 PM: Challenge 2 - Day 7.
Well its the end of week 1 of my second challenge.

The food is definately a lot easier this time (thanks JOhnA for that mini challenge that helped me a lot).

The workouts are harder :)

I look foward to weighing and measuring on Sundayy to see my progress.

The progress is slowing, aroundn 1 lb a week now - but I am also gaining some muscle, so I am definately a happy camper.

Theres a lil muscle line on my leg - and I REALLY look foward to weight days.  (I LOVE my weight workouts lol)

I'll be taking pictures again week 4 (16) and I really am looking foward to that - because I can feel myself get stronger every day.

Anyway - the reason I wanted to make this post is, for those doing your first challenge - don't think that the 12 weeks is the be all and end all of your weight loss.  Keep with it!  12 weeks is a very short time, and eve if you don't meet every single one of your goals in that time - so what?  There is always 12 more weeks after that, and 12 after that.. and 12 after that!

Body for Life Forum Message by Mahalia (104 posts) at 10:03 PM:
Thanks Tai- My immediate goal is to get to week 12, my long term gal is to repeat it and continue on it forlife. Tomorrow is beginning of week 6 for me. 7 weeks to go, the beginning of the rest ofmy life.

Upon completion of the 4th week, I will review goals to see if they still real to me? If not, I will make them even more personable... make them mean more...I completed my cardio today and did several sets of crunches on my AB Lounge, man that thing gives you a good stretch and boy, did I feel them... Feeling a little out of sort, not being able to talk to my sweetie on the East Coast, he is still sick from pneumonia. Feels like i am missing something, take care and enjoy the holiday!

I know I post on here a lot :)  and I know in the beginning of my challenge when I started out on here, I was a very very negative person.

I also know, that the sucesses I have enjoyed are a direct result of a concious decision on my part to remove that negativity and work as hard as I possibly can.

However, I also want to tell everyone, that each and every one of you on this forum, has contributed directly to how I feel about myself today - the way my attitude towards myself, my health and others has turned around.

I want to take this time to say a big thank you - and even though it might not seem like a lot - the small things make a BIG difference and the encouragement I have recieved from everyone on these forums has had a large impact on my life.

Thank you everyone - you have had a direct impact on me.

Anyway, I am learning fast who is who and I hope one day I will be as knowledgable as some of those here. I am sure that things that have happened in some posts will not taint others. We are all here for the same purpose.

Nobody in this world is perfect, we all have our knowledge, beauty, weakness and everything. Everybody is trying to find the same path, the path of happiness and love into their life. Life is a learning experience and everyday is bringing us to that path to every different aspect of our life. For me the biggest false in humanity is judging without trying to understand and the lack of compassion. Glad you are a part of this forum and keep on posting.

Body for Life Forum Message by SinCityGirl05 (294 posts) at 06:50 PM: Oh, flu bug..:(
Last night I went to bed and was feeling kinda tired and cold and blah. Shawn asked me if I was ok. He came in later and found me under a pile of blankets, shivering and saying I was cold, but yet I felt hot. Basically, I have a flu bug. Shucks Darn IT. I have body aches, fever, chills, headache and can barely walk and or lift up the baby. I guess I am going to the hospital when he gets home. I AM SO MAD. I hardly ever get sick and it has been like 3, almost 4 yrs since I was sick. I was kinda hoping it was PMS or something. It takes alot to knock me down, surgery I heal rather quickly, now give me a flu bug, kicks me down hard. Hopefully I will be better soon.

Awww, sorry you're feeling so bad, Sin. Take care of yourself, get better SOON, and get right back when you can! Jess

It happens to the best of us at times. Just take care of yourself and focus on getting well. You have the rest of your life to lift weights and workout, so concentrate on that first!

Sorry to hear you're feeling bad. Hope you're feeling better soon-eat some chicken noodle soup! Not BFL authorized probably, but it does wonders for you when you're sick. Wonder what it is about that? It's an old wives tale, but at the same time-if I'm ever sick, chicken noodle soup always makes me feel better! Don't worry about exercising while you're sick-it'll just slow down your recuperating time! Feel better :)!

Rest up Shannon girl and tell that man to take care of you! Drink lots of fluids, get lots of sleep, and hang in there!

Sorry to hear you're sick, what a BUMMER! Make sure you rest and drink lots of fluids. Try to eat clean, but don't work out until you're strong again. BFL and all of us will be waiting for you!

Take it easy Shannon. Fluids and rest. Hopefully, being so healthy from BFL will help you recover quickly. Until then, take a break.

Thread: losing lean body mass? (40 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Amanda (8 posts) at 09:09 PM: losing lean body mass?
Hello all. I'm hoping maybe some of you vets can help me out. I just finished my 4th week and took my measurements. I have lost fat and inches and when I calculated it all on mybodycomp.com it said that I lost muscle mass as well (went from 94 lbs to 91 lbs LBM). What am I doing wrong? I definitely don't want to lose muscle. I don't have much scale weight to lose, just need to firm up and lose my middle. I've been following the BFL book to a "T", haven't missed a workout, haven't added workouts, haven't cheated. Any suggestions? Please feel free to post here or e-mail me. Thanks so much in advance. I'm doind great so far and loving my results and I'm just concerned about the lean body mass. Maybe my beginning measurements weren't completely accurate since I took some of them myself or maybe mybodycomp.com isn't an accurate way to calculate?? Please help!!

Body for Life Forum Message by froglette (83 posts) at 09:26 PM:
Are you eating enough? The palm/fist approximations for servings are just that: approximations. Make sure you're getting a gram of protein per pound of lean weight per day. Even so, it's hard to lose fat without losing muscle, especially when you don't have a lot of fat to lose. Also bear in mind there are limitations on whatever device you're using to measure body fat percentage. mybodycomp.com may be accurate for some people at some point in their weight journey, but not for all people at all points.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (218 posts) at 09:50 PM:
Keep in mind, too, that the lean mass is actually just whatever is not fat... in other words, it's not all muscle. Any water weight you may have also contributes to the lean mass number, among other things.

Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (788 posts) at 10:34 PM:
and dont forget, it doesnt stop at one challenge. Even if you look at losing fat and lose some muscle this challenge, you can look at adding extra muscle NEXT challenge by eating more and working even harder. :) This is a learning process - keep up the great work!

Yes, I have to agree with Rod. If you have to hold on to stabalize yourself, hold on. I used the treadmill every so often because I would always train outside. (when I was younger) I hated the treadmill cause it took some getting used to. Now after some conditioning it is much better. And even sometimes I have to hold onto the bar. You will get used to it. Good Luck!

Body for Life Forum Message by drjlbaileyii (79 posts) at 10:14 AM:
Partly the reason why you amy track side to side and feel like your equilibrium is off is because, Rod is right, your brain thinks you are moving when you are not, So if you turn your head a little, just like in a car, your body will track to that side. You then catch your foot on the edge and stumble a little or hear that gosh aweful squeek of the shoe sliding on the stationairy board. If you feel off then hang on.. it is safer than going sliding off the back of it.

I felt exactly the same about posting my photo, but seeing it there on the website - for the whole wide world to see - has made me more determined than ever to complete the challenge and change the way everyone sees me. It's a great reminder of what I don't want to be and the good news is, now that I've started the challenge I'll never look like that again!! I've had my photo taken from the neck down - not for anonimity - but because I was struck with bells palsy (facial paralysis) several months ago and I hate the way my face looks. Why don't you just post a body shot like me to begin with? I just started the challenge yesterday so I'm a new-girl too. Good luck and don't feel ashamed of yourself. Be proud - you've taken the first step AND you're not alone :)

Body for Life Forum Message by DRod2005 (10 posts) at 08:37 AM:
I understand your fear of posting your pictures for all the world to see. The reality is the only people who will be looking are your fellow BFLifers. They have been in your shoes and their goal in life is to cheer you on and point out every positive change, no matter how insignificant you may think it is. I did not take pictures until week 2 and I did not take a full set of measurements until week 4 and have some regret. But here I am at week 6 seeing results against pics and measurements! Posting pics can be very motivational... so do it when you are ready!

Body for Life Forum Message by teresafromtx (25 posts) at 09:13 AM:
Posting them is a hard thing to do. I could'nt do it until I had my 4 week photo's. And then I thought I did not see any changes until I was told there were and from that moment on I wanted to document my whole journey to help other's. To show them "it works"! So it is your decision and what you are comfortable with. But, it is great to get the encouragement from the other's! It has helped me I can't even begin to explain how much. And to me it was worth it over and over again. You will get nothing but 110% support from your BFLer's and they will cheer you on through your accomplishments! I hope that helps you. But, you have to do what is right for you. And what is comfortable for you. Good Luck!

I dont think fit is askingn us to change the way we talk. I believe she is just asking the webmaster for a filter option in the site. That way - anyone that wanted filter on could do so, and those that did not - wouldn't have to worry about it! It's all good - and a great idea!

Well I would like to know if it is a good idea to eat sugarfree pudding aside from the six small meals etc. Any reason it could be bad etc.

Body for Life Forum Message by Signalguys (43 posts) at 01:13 AM:
Congrats on your one week mark. It would be a nice treat at the end of the day for your sixth meal. When I was a young one I used to eat my pudding through a straw. Oh those were the days!!!! Hummm... maybe I will get some pudding and straws on the next grocery trip. :)

Body for Life Forum Message by Tai-Kee (788 posts) at 01:21 AM:
HI chatterbox :) if you get chocolate sugar free pudding - and some chocolate protein powder, and then add the old protein powder in during mixing - you have yourself an authorised meal.

Body for Life Forum Message by Cheetara (412 posts) at 02:00 PM:
(Hi!) I've made "protein pudding" by mixing up sugar-free, fat-free Jello instant with skim milk, then adding the protein to my own portion, so the rest of the family could enjoy normal pudding. It was good -- and I didn't use a blender, which would probably make it better (but then you'd have to clean the blender).

Can you look into this for us?
