I couldnt beleive it this morning. I got done with my leg workout, and Im just about ready to go into the lockerroom and take a shower..what do I smell? I kid you not - cinnamon rolls! The female twig (actually she's very nice, but I just couldnt beleive she did this) behind the front counter at my gym was not only drinking a regular coke, but horking down on a McGriddle, hash browns, and a cinnamon rll drenched in icing! Now I realize she's only 20 and has the metabolisim of a small animal, but the rest of us are coming in here to change ourselves! The last thing I and others need to smell is the aroma of a bad breakfast!! If you were me, would you tell the owner? Or am I over-reacting?

I used to blame others for my obsession for using food to hurt myself. When I would binge I would blame it on others and drown in self pity. No one needs to change in order for you to recreate your life-just you. Think about it. If you were totally in a great place within yourself you probably wouldn't even have noticed it. I think you know the kind of power you need to change and you have it within regardless of what anyone else is doing.

Got a question. I started taking creatine a month ago. I followed the directions on the bottle. 1 scoop after w/o and 1 scoop 6 to 8 hours later. Then I decided to try the mass stack sample BSN sells(nitrix, noexplode, cellmass creatine). Now with the stack the instrustions for taking the creatine are 30 minutes after w/o (7:30a.m. for example) and 1 scoop at 9:30 p.m.I was reading a magazine article and it stated the best way to take creatine is right before you w/o and right after you w/o.Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone learned anything about creatine that would tell me the best and most effective way to take it. Thanks for any suggestions, Troy.

I vote for James T. Bond. My wonderful husband. He will always have my vote. I admire the man that he is and all that he stands for. Each evening as he drifts off to sleep, I find myself counting my blessing. I am thankful to know and share my life with such a man. I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him as we raise our family in God. We have already won what many have yet to find in money. Living here in Los Angeles you see so many wealthy people, yet many of them are so unhappy. People tend to take better care of materialistic things than themselves. Which is foolish, since if something happens to your car you can go and get another one. Yet I have not seen lives up for sale on Rodeo Drive, or any other store for that matter. Life is so precious and dear yet treated so carelessly. Thank you BFL finalists for setting outstanding examples of how tp treasure what matters the most.
Sorry, so chessie, it's just taht when you've lived the life that I have lived, you learn to see value in every little thing:)

And in fact all their transformations are amazing. I was so glad to see Cheryl in the top 3. She looks incredible, and her story really tugs at the heart strings. Also glad to see Aaron up there too.

Just a warning....When they had this sale in Indy, it was busy right when they opened. GET THERE FIRST.
Also, CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES on the ALL products. Everything I bought except for one case was still fresh.
However, the other case was over 2 months PAST DUE. I called EAS and they were poops about it, as all sales were final.
Although, I did ASK at the sale if all products were still good. They said YES.
Needless to say, I threw out $25 worth of Myoplex RTDs. :(
But, still glad I went and got good deals on the other products that were NOT yet expired.

Sylvia - It's funny but I'm camping by myself...and I think that is what I needed... It's just me and God for the next 9 days here.
Last night I was thinking about the people I used to camp with. We were friends for 17 years up until a couple of months ago. But it was interesting to realize that I've felt a lot better about my life without them being a part of it. I realize now that their cynicism, negativity and disrespect were only dragging me down and not the kind of so-called friendship I needed...

Okay...so...I lost an hour of my life this morning that I will never get back.
There is a sales rep in my gym that splashes on excessive cologne every day. In my book of standards, ANY employee at a gym that is wearing ANY cologne at all is considered excessive.
I complained to someone before about the amount he uses which carries through the entire gym. He was told and his reaction was to offer another employee a bonus if that person ratted me out and followed it up with..."they can kiss my ass."
So. Today I walk in and am immediatly struck by the overpowering stench of his arrogance. I get on the treadmill and start running, somewhere around 7.5 mph I find it extremely difficult to breath. I get off, I approach him, I ask if he has a moment as I would like to talk to him. I explain that I just had to get off the treadmill because I'm finding it difficult to breath due to his excessive cologne.
He says:
"I'm finding that hard to believe"
I say...
What would I have to gain by telling you that if it weren't true???
He says
"It's a free country and you can't tell me I can't wear cologne to work" though I never said not to wear it, I said lighten up on it.
I say...
I PAY to come in here, I believe my opinion does count.
He says...
"Thats like me telling you not to listen to your music because it's bothering you"
I say...
I wear headphones! I don't ever presume that what I find to be in good taste is the same as someone else!
He says...
"You are the only one who has ever complained"
I say...
I am the only one that has the balls to actually approach you about it.
He says...
"I deal with customer complaints all the time...I'm not finding yours to be a valid complaint".
Hoooookay.
So I wait outside.....FUMING...for the owner to show up. Yes, the SAME owner that brings his dog to the gym. What was I thinking???? The owner then tells me that this guy is the best employee his ever had. That he has strong work ethics. That he pays bunches of money to keep his people trained. That he actually has to call his lawyer about the cologne issue. If he tells this guy he can't wear cologne, then he'll have to tell the women they can't wear perfume! I say........Aaaaaaand???? I say..."Guess what??? You don't own a bar buddy! YOU OWN A FREAKING GYM!!!" and besides the point!!! I'm a paying customer!!! At least have the common sense to bullshit me and say, "okay...sorry bout that..I'll lighten up on it" and do whatever you want the next day! I would have walked away happy!
*sigh*
So? Your thoughts? Am I valid in being seriously pissed off or should I lighten up my ThermoDynamX.
Body for Life Forum Message by Framed (25 posts) at 11:51 AM
You are right on. Most gyms post signs that say it is a fragrance free environment. Many people (like me) are allergic to perfume. Even strong deoderant bothers me. To the point...The owner should be able to tell any employee what to wear and what not to wear for a businss that is catering to people who are exercising. I know the owner of my gym has spoken to members who pile it on. It just doesn't work where people are huffing and puffing and gasping for breath. I'm behind you 100%

Kmachate - LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
At my gym, there are one or two ladies who wear some gawd-awful smelling perfume, and a lot of it. Thank goodness I haven't had to run on a treadmill next to them (yet)... I guess it could be worse, I could be going to the gym that all the "beautiful" people work out at who are mainly there to be seen.... :)
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (1821 posts) at 02:43 PM
I totally understand. While allergic maybe a bit strong, to say that it is annoying enough to be distracting is an understatement. I don't go to a gym, but as Tai said, "fragrance free" seems to make absolute sense.
For me its both cologne & perfume, and its just gotten really bad in my old age - it never used to bother me as much as now.
One time at work one of the guys who wears the cheapo stinky stuff is in the office. I don't want to even talk to him because if I open my mouth then its in there too. Anyway this was in the morning; by afternoon I'm in a really pissy bad mood - just irritated with everything. Then I hear this buzzing sound. I look around, where the hell is the buzzing coming from? Then I find it. Its his pager under some papers at the end of my desk. It freaking WREAKED OF HIM!!!!!! Hello reason for my bad mood. I just about threw it across the room. My whole work area smelt like his stinky cologne from one little itty bitty pager that he had touched!!!
Body for Life Forum Message by Can'tStopMe (308 posts) at 04:55 PM
Well I have a neighbor who happens to be an avid hunter and who happens to have a little spray bottle of "fox pee". Perhaps I will take it with me to the gym tomorrow and nuetralize that little area around his desk while smoking ciggarettes. I wonder if that would create a law suit?

Did I get this wrong (anyone watching?). Measure smallest part (underneath the puppies) = 32". Measure largest part (the puppies themselves) = 35". For each inch difference is one cup size.
That makes me, yes me a great big whopping "CCCCCCCCCCCCCC". I think a round of applause for myself is in order!

You'd be surprised. I would suggest that you take advantage of the next fitting event at J.C. Penny.
They often have women who specialize in bra fittings.
They have names like Olga and Hilma, they are ususally in their late fifties and they know their stuff.
The right bra can improve poster, attitude and of course the "look."
Seriously...after I lost weight I thought I still needed a 36 D.
After a fitting I wore 34 D.
My clothes fit better...and I got to buy a whole new wardrobe of lacy little underthings.

I will also fit into these cute olive green cargo capri pants. They are so sexy, the zipper can't be more than 2 inches long. This is probably unpopular to say...but it's true...
If you drink way more water than you need to be fully hydrated, you just pee it out. It doesn't magically flush out any toxins, it doesn't truly aid in weight loss unless it's keeping you from feeling hungry...
It's not usually gonna cause any problems, so go ahead and drink what you want, but yeah... If you were having urinary issues already, there's no reason to go overboard. The delivery may have been imperfect, but the advice is sound.
The reason most people have to drink so much to be hydrated is because they consume diuretics all day in sodas, coffee, etc! Also, many people simply don't hit 2 full glasses of water a day, much less what we drink... Coffee and most sodas count as negative hydration!
Anywho, you can get a feel for how much water you truly need on your own. Saying 64 or 100 is not necessarily the best approach. You'll know by how you perform in your workouts... if you get tired and have the munchies all the time...etc.

Body for Life Forum Message by ShineyHiney (248 posts) at 10:16 PM
I'm with Stephanie. Believe it or not you can drink too much water. It's called water intoxication, and this can lead to hyponatremia (low sodium). It dilutes it, I think. There are people with heart and kidney problems that are limited on the amount of fluids they can have in a day also.

We just learned in depth about hyponatremia today, actually. You basically would start getting really nauseated and throwing up water before you would ever get hyponatremia. (It is typically only seen in "weekend warrior"-type athletes who run a marathon in 5+ hours and drink way too much water without replacing any of the lost sodium.)
I'm going for my master's in dietetics and it is crazy how much doctors are not educated in nutrition (yes this is a generalization, but i believe it to be widely applicable). I have one pre-med "friend" who went so far to tell me that nutrition is not a science. Fine, he can take all my science classes for me...
Keep drinking. Individuals who exercise intensly definitely need more than the typical 8 cups a day...you should aim for your urine to be dilute/clear in color as opposed to concentrated/dark yellow color. (My professor compared it to lemonade vs. apple juice. Go for the lemonade.) This technique is really quite an accurate test of hydration.
Body for Life Forum Message by PharmerStephanie (18 posts) at 11:46 PM
True, there is such a thing as water intoxication, but that's usually a hard thing to accomplish.
Going for lemonade sounds fine, but going for just about clear makes NO sense if you're having incontinence issues...
It's just a matter of individual hydration. I would never say that a 5'0 woman needs the same amount of water as me, at 5'10".
My point was basically that you just pee out the extra. Extra does no good, really, unless it fills you up... but it does no harm either as long as you are receiving adequate nutrition.
I think the doctor in question was just being a rational practitioner. Why put the pressure on a bladder struggling with control when it's basically pure waste?
And hyponatremia can happen in many instances not related to "weekend warriors" ...but not usually without some kind of other dysfunction or crazy dieting first. And vomiting water/ nausea would only be an initial symptom if it was from practically drowning yourself in fluids. If you have idiopathic hyponatremia or even just a cause other than drinking too much, a lot of times the first indication will be a seizure.
Anywho, I say listen to your body (remembering that thirst comes when you're already less than optimally hydrated!) and follow fewer rules...because they are based on generalizations, often generalizations about a "typical 80kg male."
Besides, I thought the suggestion from BFL is 10 cups a day. 10cups*8oz/cup is 80 ounces... where did the 100 ounces come from?
If nothing else, I hope that people understand from this mini-debate that peeing more often in isolation does not make for more fat loss, it does not necessarily make you more healthy than the next person, it is not a way to "flush" out extra bad things in the body... The same amount of "waste" comes out, whether it's distributed in ten minute increments or hour and a half increments -- large or small volume.
Hell, if it didn't hurt exercise performance and general energy levels, there is really no huge consequence for having a day, week, month etc with apple juice for urine. The body is an amazing "machine" ...and the kidney is probably my favorite organ because of its ability to adjust to varying fluid levels (within reason) with no ill consequences. That, and it handles drugs. :D
Oh, and yes, I agree that way too many health professionals don't know enough about nutrition. They also don't know enough about medications... but that's where you and I come in, Ashtrash. =)

I've loved cottage cheese since I was old enough to spell it. Luckily, I grew up with skim milk and lowfat cottage cheese, so I have no desire to eat the chunkiness that is full-fat cottage cheese.
My problem is that I just can't seem to stomach the fat-free stuff. Think the 1.5g of fat makes that big of a difference? I don't eat it every day, but pretty close to it.
I guess I could always use the fat-free in recipes and the lowfat when I'm eating it straight...

Stephanie;
I don't blame you, I can't stomach the fat free cottage cheese either! I compromise. I don't use regular, instead I use the low-fat, which tastes a heck of a lot better than the fat-free. I get tired of eating it plain, so I mix it with my CarbControl yogurt some days. I can't eat the CarbControl yogurt by itself either, cause it leaves an aftertaste, but mixed together, it's actually pretty good!

If I'm not mistaken.....the final date to enter for the 2005 challenge was July 4th........SO, that tells me that anyone who started a challnege after that date could enter for the 2006 challenge.
I downloaded my package yesterday.....I plan on sending it in after I start challenge 2 on January 2nd.
I still have to read over the rules & all the fine print.....wanna make certain I do this right the first time.

I am not sure about the dates, either. I thought I read a while back that the 2006 dates started after October 6th. I wish I could remember where I saw that. I definitely cannot find that now. Maybe they have done away with the dates and will just have a final ending date in 2006 as in 2005...?

Hey Everybody - I posted my 0 and 4 week photos - can't tell much difference yet but I do feel better. Doesn't help that my 4 week photos were taken with a throwaway camera since my hubby admitted Sunday morning that he had dropped my digital :-(. The scanned pictures look a little stark. I hope this challenge really gets me going for the 8 week photos!

Hi guys....
Sorry I have been MIA. I ended up going to my mil's to see my niece. She was born 3 mo. premature weighing in at 2lb 12oz now. So cute and tiny. Anyway, then I was suprised by hubby saying he was coming home for a couple weeks so he arrived last night. Honestly - totally fell off the wagon last week. I'm back in it today - didn't weigh in or take stats. I'll do that sunday am. Hope that doesn't screw up the team. It was such a bad week last week. My contractors are coming here tomorrow to meet with us - gotta get this thing finalized and sign a new contract. I just hope he isn't an ass about it.
Anyway - that's rambling enough. I will try to catch up on posts later today. Off to do my HIIT!

Throughout each of the weeks of the challenge, you will keep track of your daily points as follows:
? Consume a minimum of 80 oz of water each day - 1 point per day, 6 points max per week
? On-plan BFL Food - 1 point per day, 6 points max per week
? On-plan BFL Exercise - 1 point per day, 6 points max per week
*Note - the reason for the 6 point max is to allow for your very important FREE DAY!
At the end of the week (by Monday night), PM your points for the week and your weight to Laurie (MegansMom).
There is a post called Holiday Challenge Rules with more information and on how team totals are figured out.

What happened at the Dr, Michelle?? How everything is ok with your shoulder
Linda
Body for Life Forum Message by Michelle (78 posts) at 07:03 PM
Update.
I am feeling much better today. Last night I took ibuprophen and iced my shoulder.
Today at the gym I followed suggested exercises from the gang here and resisted the urge to push.
Man was it hard to steer clear of the bench press today.
But after hearing what Mike and Jerry went thru...I steered very clear.
I talked with my Doctor who suggested ice and anti-inflammatories for the next day or two and call if the pain does not improve.
Tonight It feels pretty good.
Still painful when I put on my jacket...but not enought to knock me flat.
Thanks to all of you for your concern.
This whole thing is keeping me on my toes and thinking of ways to train around the shoulder.
But as they say...its good to mix things up!

I know it's impossible, but since they made this year about voting wouldn't it have been nice to see the top 15 live on webcams or something. Hearing some of the Top 15 on here really has me thinking about who to vote for now. Just like politicians get commercials, I wish these guys had live video feeds, instead of blogs. I'd like to SEE them talk. That would help us in our judging if they ever do this again in the future.

Body for Life Forum Message by PharmerStephanie (18 posts) at 03:42 PM
LoL...yep, you did answer your own question... but you sound worried, so I figured I'd respond!
The increase in the risk of heart attack and stroke is because most hormonal birth controls increase your risk of forming clots. This can lead to problems in addition to heart attack and stroke -- pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, etc.
Recent clinical trials have shown that low-dose oral contraceptives don't increase the risk of stroke and heart attack in otherwise healthy women. So if you're worried, you can switch to a low dose version of "the pill."
When you are on hormonal BC, caffeine (ThermoDynamX) takes longer to get out of your system. A good rule of thumb is decrease caffeine intake by at least half to make up for this change.
Being overweight/obese also increases risk, and smoking is the single worst thing you can do in terms of stroke/MI risk while on BC... so being on a healthy regimen, cutting back (or ditching!) the caffeine, and NOT SMOKING will help you avoid a stroke/MI.
To be honest, I don't think you should worry about having "done any damage" in the time where you were taking both.
That's not to say it's ok to ignore the warnings, but sometimes you have to take them with a grain of salt. But make that a tinytiny grain, or else you are at increased risk of hypertension. lol.

Well, buy a home in a safe community for our family. Put money aside for college. Pay off medical bills. Support our Christian film ministry out here in LA. Wow, try selling the industry on good wholesome programming and see how the negitive response flows:) You suddenly become the under dog. Sex and violence sell, and we wonder why crime is on the rise.
10% would go to tithes/ Charity, for this is from our Christian beliefs. There are some great organizations out there in need of help. Feed the Children, Abandon Baby Fund, St. Judes, Children of the Night are all very, very worthy causes. Please check them out. Their all online.
All of that said, we will continue to strive towards these marks if we win or not. We moved here to do so and are determined to follow the will of God for our lives. We've come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord. trusting in His holy word and He 's never failed us yet. Can't turn around, we've come too far. I want to hear Him say,"Well done, my good and faithful servant, well done".

Congrats, I had friend who took a myoplex original to the doctor and the doctor said that if she had one myoplex a day she would have to take her pre natal(sp)vitiams. I would ask of course, but fyi. Do what you can, and be smart about it. Take care of those craving, but don't over do it, and eat slow.

CONGRATULATIONS! Go for it, continue to work out as long as you can. I worked out (not BFL) and watched what I ate with my first child, and I only gained 15 pounds. I was back in my old clothes when I left the hospital. Of course I was 23 then. When I had my second baby at 29, I did not workout nor did I watch what I ate. I went into the hospital pushing 195 pounds. I never thought I would get back down to 130, and I regretted not working out like I should have. Of course I still had Depo Provera weight on me then too! Keep it up girl! That's the best advice I can give.

I've been losing scale weight, however I haven't lost inches. Is this normal? What's going on?
I have missed 2 workouts during this challange, and my diet hasn't been perfect. I slip up now and then. For the most part I eat clean, and I hit my 10's. Why are my measurements still the same?
This is actually my second challenge. My first challenge I made it to week 6 and decided to start over. I was not seeing any results, totally got frustrated and decided to go on a weeks worth of free days. Not a good idea!
TIA - Jamie
Body for Life Forum Message by Mellie (20 posts) at 12:05 PM
Are you measuring Body Fat %
Body for Life Forum Message by nasa10202004 (97 posts) at 12:27 PM
What are you judging the fact that you aren't losing inches. How much have you lost? Where are you in your challenge? It is hard to tell as of now. I never weigh myself, I judge my fat loss by the way my clothes fit(or not). Stay off the scale for a while and try to focus on what the pants say. You will get there, it is a slow process. Once you get going, there will be no stopping you. Also, don't slip up or miss work outs. You want this, you need this, LET'S GO GET THIS!!!
Kenny
Body for Life Forum Message by sloth501 (79 posts) at 01:11 PM
That is what I have gone through. I've been losing inches but not much weight. Its a little frustrating because I want to lose body fat but I also want to lose weight. On a good note, the vast majority of my work clothes are too big for me now.
For this challenge, I am getting serious about increasing my cardio/HIIT. While the amount of cardio work in the BFL plan has helped me to lose body fat, I want to lose it at a faster pace than I am gaining muscle...
Gary
Body for Life Forum Message by GlennH (43 posts) at 01:34 PM
Ok....here it is in a nutshell. What you WANT to do is lose bodyfat and corresponding inches. What you really shouldn't CARE about is weight. Is is a number, that's all. I for one don't care if I weigh 400 lbs. if I'm sporting an 6 pack. :)
Body for Life Forum Message by GlennH (43 posts) at 01:38 PM
Also, Jamie, from your profile, it appears you are at about the 3rd week.
For most females the apparent changes don't show until around week 8 as you are changing from the inside out. Keep working the progam, it will pay off.
Body for Life Forum Message by ptwob2 (185 posts) at 01:40 PM
This is just my experience, but when my diet is not perfect, I don't get results. Eating foods that aren't authorized (except on free day), is the kiss of death for results. Eating is the largest and most important part of this program. The exercise is just the catalyst to make the results faster and more dramatic. Bottom line - Make the eating perfect 6 days a week, then evaluate your results.
Mike
Body for Life Forum Message by LuckyGirl (23 posts) at 01:43 PM
That's actually why I'm frustrated. I would rather lose inches then weight.
I've lost 5.5 pounds in 3 weeks. I just don't understand where these 5.5 pounds came from? My clothes feel a tiny, tiny bit loser. However my measurements are the same. Maybe I'm losing weight in weird places? I did notice my chest getting smaller.
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (1821 posts) at 02:58 PM
Most likely its mainly water loss. By sticking with the program it will eventually result in inches lost.
Body for Life Forum Message by cookie1135 (955 posts) at 03:23 PM
Jamie, Give it some time, sometime the weight comes off first followed by the inches!! You just need to hang in there and stick with the program, it does work! You have only been at it for such a short time, keep going at it, and give it your all!!! Eat Clean, Drink Lots Of Water,Hit Your 10's, don't miss any workouts!! I wish you all the best!! You Can Do This!!!!
Hugs,
Sylvia
Body for Life Forum Message by gymbeamin' (840 posts) at 03:26 PM
the first inch lost was in my chest...ticked me off too.
hang in there, stay with the program and it'll happen, we can all attest to that....can't we??
Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (266 posts) at 03:56 PM
Yes we can!! My progress was slow, but steady. But, even after a year, there are still daily changes! Keep at it. Forget about results for now and work on getting the program down to a T. GlennH is right... it works from the inside out, so be PATIENT!!
Body for Life Forum Message by Ursula (511 posts) at 01:21 PM
My caloric intake is around 1500, but I seem to have stalled out a bit. Mind you I am where I wanted to be, but I think I can take it a bit further. I am not sure how many calories I should be taking in, and don't know if I am taking in to few? If I am eating 1500 and workouts use between 225-300 is that to low? I would rather gain fat, then lose muscle ( I know sounds crazy, but I have worked hard for them.)...
Also seems like lately I am just plain hungry. Not as in I am bored, but really hungry. I have added lots more veggies which I know won't hurt ;)
Urs
Body for Life Forum Message by Larry (82 posts) at 01:56 PM
Ursula,
I am convinced that many people, if not most, err by taking in too few calories in their eagerness to get better and/or faster results.
It is clear that you are getting leaner day by day -- and your in pretty good shape right now. I would say that 1200 calories (after exercise) is probably not enough. I bet your metabolism is in "we're not getting enough food so let's lower the flame" mode. And if it does get a few extra cals it says, "Whoa! Better turn this to fat 'cause tomorrow we starve!"
Perhaps you would consider upping the calories a bit with more complex carbs and more protein -- and do it without fear. I know you are working hard. Give your body what it needs to repair tissue and grow new muscle. And get enough rest, too -- that's when the magic happens (the magic of tissue repair and muscle growth).
Many people have reported getting better results after upping their calorie intakes to levels more appropriate to their needs. One more point, it may take a while for your body to adapt and adjust to the increased calories, resulting in a temporary plateau; although, it is better to give it what it needs and let it adjust then to allow it to languish in "starvation mode" for too much longer. Once your metabolism gets used to more food and adjusts its set-point, you'll be better off by far!
Then again, you body may shout, "Thank God, more food, just what we need! We're gonna' rock now!" Experiment. You have a LIFEtime to get it right. I know you will.
You asked. That's what I think. Take care!
Yours in fitness,
Larry

Thanks Larry. That was kind of what I was thinking. It's good to have a confirmation, and your right I have the rest of my life to figure it out lol. Like I said I would rather gain and not lose the muscle.
Urs
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (1821 posts) at 02:56 PM
I've struggled with this same issue Ursula. However, it seems like I am spending the rest of my life figuring this out LOL. What I try to tell myself (read - TRY) is to up the calories with the cleanest foods I can. An extra serving of lean protein, sweet potatoes as an example.
Body for Life Forum Message by Ursula (511 posts) at 03:35 PM
That sounds reasonable. It is odd to get into the mind set that eating a bit more will help you to lose.
You look awesome by the way :)

For the last few months I've struggled with a plateau. On some advice from some very knowledgeable people on Tracker... I decided to check my diet for ENOUGH calories. So for the past 3 weeks, I've been recording every morsel I'm putting into my mouth... aiming for 1600-1900 calories a day (I don't mind zigzagging them) and making sure I'm getting a minimum of 40% protein. This week, I was down a pound and a half - and I averaged 1645 calories (6 days - no free day included)! Not too bad!

In my search for information I have come across great words of wisdom from this forum. I have also found, Body-for-LIFE for Women: A Woman’s Plan for Physical and Mental Transformation. By Pamela Peeke, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.P.
http://www.drpeeke.com/
I also found this:
By William D. McIntosh, MD, FACOG
The Body for Life plan is fine for pregnancy, though I object in principle to the need to buy supplements. The exercise is also good, but it will have to be tailored to pregnancy. This means less, or perhaps different weight training, as well as altered aerobic training, to limit heartrate maximums and so on. Talk with your doctor once you confirm your pregnancy.
I don't know if any of this can help, however I wish you the best:)

I was checking out the BfL website and came across information for the Expo in Denver on January 13th and 14th.
I really want to go. It looks like it would be so motivational, inspirational, informational, etc. I think I can finagle an invite to stay at a friend's house so that would help with the cost. And Southwest starts flying into Denver on January 1st so there will have to be some cheap fares.
Anyway, who's going? Has anyone ever been to something like that before? What's it like?

Thankfully their were only two spectators one of which was a young good looking guy. I usally go to the gym at 5:30am so that I can be home for my husband to go to work however I showed up to the gym at 6:00 and threw my whole day off. not looking forward to day 18 another cardio day

This may sound like a silly question, but is fat free hot chocolate ok to drink once in a while?
Body for Life Forum Message by Kari (234 posts) at 08:11 PM
even though it says fat free it may have loads of sugar in it..which in my opinion is worse than fat..so..????
Body for Life Forum Message by Larry (82 posts) at 08:11 PM
The question to ask is how much sugar is in it.
Body for Life Forum Message by Abbiecrombie (41 posts) at 08:13 PM
it has 11 grams...
Body for Life Forum Message by Larry (82 posts) at 08:40 PM
Two Ways to Look at It!
1.) Would you eat 3 teaspoons of sugar?
11 grams is close to 3 teaspoons of sugar. Sugar can be a bigger threat to weight loss than fat. I'd save it for a free day. It's a choice only you can make.
Keep in mind that 1 teaspoon of sugar has about 16 calories or 4 grams. That will help you make decisions about what to eat and what to avoid.
By comparison an 8 ounce Pepsi has 27 grams of sugar or 100 calories -- by the way, has anyone, anywhere every drank only 8 ounces of Pepsi? Does it even come in that size anymore?
Google "the dangers of sugar" and keep in mind that it could trigger an insulin spike. Not good!
2.) Timing is everything!
Then again, the best time to ingest a simple sugar is in your post weight-lifting drink or meal, within a 30 minute window. You could use your hot chocolate and add a little milk and protein powder to it, maybe even some L-glutamine if you are so inclined. The sugar transports the protiens and nutrients into your tissues.
That way you could indulge and still be doing the right thing for your body!

Nestle makes a sugar-free/fat free hot cocoa that I've tried before. I think it's their "low-carb" version. But read the label, just to make sure.

So I'm still hobbling along. I've added in nearly an hour of stretching daily (30 minutes in the morning and 30 at night) due to the pounding my body is taking.
Those floors at work are hard as rock. I still can't get the balance right between a very intense BFL workout and one that allows me to actually navigate on crutches. I'm trying to beware of shoulder overuse injuries.
I had three days off which was great for the knee. Then within 24 hours I'm back to the knee hurting. Just 8 short hours at work and BAM. Back to ouch city.
The part that's frusterating is I work commission sales. If I'm not up and selling, I make no money.
I'm trying to remind myself that Rome wasn't built in a day, and that sprains are allowed to hurt.

Jen, every little bit helps. Just congratulate yourself for starting, that’s a huge step in the right direction. Every time you train just focus on small improvements and before you now it you will be able to look back at where you started and wonder in amazement at how far you have come, stick to it
Kind regards and best wishes,
ali

The BEST is all you can expect to do. You are going to work back up to lifting what you use to, but you have have to work at it. Just remember this time because one day you will be laughing at it!

If I make my free day on a different day for the holidays, will it throw me off? What is everyone else doing? I am only going to be in my second week for thanksgiving so I don't want to screw it up. Thanks

You can make your free day for any day that you want ie. Thurs. but you're not supose to have another on Sat.

I'll take Thanksgiving Day, I'll split the day between Christmas Eve night & Christmas morning and I'll take New Years Day.
We'll just have to eat extra clean during the rest of the week.

Maybe this is wrong to say, BUT Sunday is always my free day. If I have a bad meal or bad day ie Thursday, Sunday I am back on a freeday. I look at it this way, if Sunady is always a free day and them I cheat on Thursday, I have to wait not one Sunday, but 2 Sundays. Mentally this has helped me not cheat on any other day, but my free day.

I'm with Kenny on that. I find it's too depriving for me to punish myself. It's a program for life. There will always be challenges. If I've already had an unplanned free day during the week, I always start my Sundays off clean and allow myself to make it a free day if something I want comes along which it always does :)

Next week will also be my second week of my challenge. I think I'll make Thurs. my eating free day but I'll still do my cardio workout as planned. I don't think I'll have a problem eating clean on sunday because I'm using the turkey leftovers to make some EFL recipes to try like Turkey enchiladas, or Turkey green chile soup.
I'm making sure that my friends are taking some dessert home so I won't have that around to think about. The rest of the dishes I've planned on making healthy adjustments that won't affect the taste too much.
