I'm taking GNC Ultra Mega Gold (2 green pills), Super Omega Complex w/ CLA, Fish, Flax, Borage...other fatty acids, and also B-12, esp this time of year with everyone getting colds.
So, I take 4 pills every morning but I really think they are a big part of how good I've been feeling.

i've tried the cabbage diet along with many others the only thing i can say is if you try it you will have gas bad. dont think i'd want to go to a party like that.
Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (61 posts) at 09:41 PM
My chief concern would be that you are going to hose your long term progress if you tinker.
Cutting diets SUCK. They aren't fun, and you will regain the weight you lose and possibly more coming off the cut. So keep that in mind.
Take a deep breath. :) Now think short term gain (illusion of buffness) vs long term goal (better muscle mass and definition on my arms).
Which is more important to you? This years Christmas party or the next 20 years of parties?
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (86 posts) at 10:15 PM
The cabbage soup diet works for people who haven't been dieting and haven't been exercising. It is almost like a fast, and it also causes substantial weight losss because it empties your body of bowel weight, not just fat! You would really be better off restricting sodium, restricting carbs, and the last two days, taking a natural diuretic and restricting water. Push water until 5 days out, then taper down to normal water for two or three days, and the last two take little water. You'll feel like crap--but, hey, it sounds like you'd rather look good than do what you know is good, so if that's the way it is, go for it!
Body for Life Forum Message by SweetEmotion (974 posts) at 10:59 PM
First of all YOU ALREADY LOOK HOT!!! No problems for you looking hot in 10 days, you already are. What are you talking about?? I'm confused. don't you see what me and everyone else sees? Obviously not. forget about those diets, keep on BFL and you're already beautiful.

Another very important factor to remember is as you build muscle your resting metabolic rate increases. In other words you need more fuel then you did previously. A caffiene drink or suppliment is a good idea but even better still would be a small bowl of oatmeal or a piece of fruit. The oatmeal would have to be atleast a few hours before your workout where a piece of fruit could be immeadiately before your workout. This should give a little extra energy to burn while working out. Hope this helps- Jay

Hey mike, I was curious about these 7 revelations that I didnt know about men, and am wondering if they are true. Let me know what you think, I want to be able to understand better my husband and any advice from a elder would be appreciate.
#1: Men need respect; Men would rather feel unloved than inadequate and disrespected.
#2: Men are insecure; Despite their" in control" exterior men often feel like imposters and are insecure that their inadewquacies will be discovered.
#3 Men are providers; Even though us women can make enough income to support the familys lifestyle, it would make no difference to the mental burden he feels to provide.
#4 men want more sex, Our sexual desire for our male counterparts profoundly affects his sense of well being and confidence in all areas of life.
#5 Men are visual; Even happily married men struggle with being pulled toward live and recollected images of women.
#6 Men are unromantic clods: Most men enjoy romance(in sometimes different ways)and want to be romantic- but hesitate because they doubt they can succeed.
#7 Men care about apperance: Meaning that us women dont need to be a size 3 but our man does need to see us making the effort to take care of our selves.
That the more us women understand the men in our lives, the better we can support and love them in the way they need to be loved, in other words this revelation is to change and improve us..

My 2 cents. I wholly agree with Michigan Mike about the restaraunt thing. I always do this; without fail. As far as nothing to wear, true. My closets, drawers are jamb-packed and when I say I have nothing to wear it usually means that none of my 50 pair of pants, or 75 turtlenecks appeals to me. If I have a "dress-up" thing to go to I am not wearing what I wore the last time; I wouldn't be caught dead wearing the same thing twice. Believe me, I always have NOTHING TO WEAR!!!!!!
I pretty much agree with all 7 of RdNk Grl's revelations. I think to some extent all men could fit into these.
Body for Life Forum Message by tonee (92 posts) at 03:02 AM
Yup RdNk Grl mostly all true. My husband has talked about all of these things he says a man needs to be happy (except the insecurity issue) on countless occasions. Respect was always first and lots of sex is always second.

I've mixed it in with sweet potatoes (half & half) just to bring the carb count down. I mash mine with cinnamon, nutmeg, dash of salt & vanilla and eat it cold - tastes like pumpkin pie. If no pumpkin, I eat sweet potatoes warm. For some reason if there's pumpkin in it, warm tastes a bit bitter to me, cold its fine - JMO

Here's a recipe from (cfingram) posted a couple weeks ago. I haven't tried it yet because I don't have a blender at home, but lots of people commented on how delicious it was.
Sweet Potato or Pumpkin Cheesecake Bowl
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup cottage cheese (I use 2%)
1/2 of a medium sized cooled baked sweet potato or canned pumpkin (approximately 3.5 oz)
1/2 scoop of vanilla whey protein (optional, for extra protein!)
2 packets of sweetener (I use Splenda)
Optional Spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spices, etc.
Blend together on high in blender. Eat, or chill and then eat! You can also substitute canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) for the sweet potato.
NOTE: You can add raisins (keep in mind, this would be extra carbs).

HERE'S MY FAVORITE recipe for what to do with pumpkin from the can: 1. Remove from can without breaking it up. 2. Put in plastic bag and freeze solid in the freezer for 24 hours prior to Thanksgiving. 3. On Thanksgiving morning, throw it at the neighbor's cat while he is pooping in our flower beds. 4. Go to my aunt's house for homemade Thanksgiving dinner, including ham, turkey, mashed potatos, corn, green beans, homemade rolls, swimming in butter, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, apple pie, rhubarb pie, ice cream, and coffee afterward--with lo cal sweetener of course! Happy thanksgiving all.

I remember back before I started BFL that I thought it was just plain strange that our daughter sat around flicking through before and after pictures on the tracker. But somewhere in my BFL journey, it quit being strange and I started flicking, too. Recently, however, I've been reminded of my old perspective. A couple different friends "saw" the following about the pictures:
"What is this? Weight loss porn?"
"Is is a rule that all of the before pictures have to be taken against a off-white wall with a bit of the closet door showing?"
Body for Life Forum Message by SweetEmotion (974 posts) at 09:17 PM
I always noticed that most pictures are taken in front of like a front door. I thought that was funny when I first started looking. But it gets addicting looking all the time. BUT...that's the reason I joined. It was motivating.

Hi Kevin buddy. This is your friend Pan from Cyprus.
First i would like to share a story with you all. I followed Kevins Transformation from the first day he posted his week 9 results. Kevin was always the first to answer my emails and he agreed to my request when i asked if i could make a kevin hubbard word document with his pictures plus his words of wisdom.
I often posted on the bfl site and here of that document and i literally sent of 100's of them.
Kevin, you have inspired so many people. I am still a bit baffled about why you was not in the 15 finalists. I am positive if you were you would have won with out a doubt.
My only complaint with you is that you deleted your profile to which inspired 100's to enter the bfl competition. I emailed Cheryl at some point in her challenge (to which i admire so much and my wife and I voted for her every day during the voting process) that YOU were her inspiration.
My dear friend, your essay brought tears to my eyes. So many points hit home.
I have had some health problems the last few months but i am better now. In order to honour you i will print out your essay & b4 & after pictures and will stick it in my training manual to my new official challnege which i will enter on Monday.
Keep inspiring us kevin and bring back your b4 and after pictures, they have the potential to inspire 100's of more.
God Bless
From the sunny (but cold) Island of Cyprus
Your bfl brother
Pan

EAS has had guestbook "issues" from time to time, and over the last five years the outages have varied from about 8 hours, up to as much as 5 days. I am guessing that this one will not be back up until next Monday, with the holiday. That's only a guess. It could be that they had some kind of a major event happen to their server. They generally put up that "regular maintenance" sign even when something else has happened. It is sort of the Internet version of "temporarily closed for remodeling," which almost always means something else!

So my gym is undergoing a turnover of equiptment. (It is a small federal and provincial employee gym that I have access to) Where it sits right now some of the "old" equiptment has been removed..
This is all well and good because the cardio machines are still there and the free weights.. This morning, however, was my LBWO day and half the equipt I use for my 10's is missing.. I didn't even relize this until it was time to use those particular machines!! This left me scrambling and unfortunately I can't say I hit any 10s this morning. Very dissappointing.
Talk about a crappy feeling when I dont get to go that extra mile.. Oh well ill get over it.. I hope they bring in the new gear soon!!!!!!!!!!

What a bummer! I can only imagine how disappointing. Can you do squats, rows, lunges, toe raises, and crunches instead? Don't let today slip by, get back in there!
Body for Life Forum Message by Forest Tech (32 posts) at 07:57 AM
i did my squats, hamstring deadlifts, standing calf raises and decline keg raises for abs.. but i usually do my 10s for my calfs and quads on the leg press.. i guess i just lost my critical drive when i was forced out of my routine. I always struggle with ab 10s.. and hamstrings. Ill try better next time. ill be more prepared

Did you ever notice that a six pack is a function of body fat percentage? No matter how much you work on your abs you wont see them until you reach about 12%(for men) and at the point they barely peak through. Look at the BFL winners. There is one guy who is 3% and he is ripped as ripped can be. Most of the guys are between 6-8% and are nicely cut. The few older guys are around 10% and you can just start to see the definition. Anything more is % wise and they are barely there. Has anybody else noticed this and are your results the same?
Body for Life Forum Message by supergirl (1636 posts) at 10:53 AM
Definitely, it's all about getting that bodyfat down. CONSISTENT weight training, intense cardio, and clean eating will do it.
Body for Life Forum Message by amodellawyer (52 posts) at 11:54 AM
I'm right about 10.5% now and I can just begin to see them. I've always heard that you have to get under 10% in order to see you abs. You can do any many crunches as you like but a six pack is purely a function of body fat percentage. As they say nutrition is 80% of any exercise plan. This one is no different.
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (86 posts) at 01:50 PM
But it also can depend on abdominal muscle development as well. Younger guys don't get as large and as defined abs as guys in their late 20's and on. So, the younger you are, the leaner you have to be to see abs. I'm almost 60, and even though I was at about 15% body fat in my last photos, you still can see a clear four pack, because the abs are pretty large from lots of heavy lifting, and hanging leg raises. For me to see a full six pack, though, it takes about 10% body fat. The older you get, the more interior body fat you have, so you don't have to get quite as lean. BTW, it is genetically impossible to get to 3% body fat and still be healthy, so the guy who says that is what he has needs to remeasure. Essential fat level is higher than that. Minimum safe body fat level for men is considered to be 5%.
Body for Life Forum Message by Spec V Me (8 posts) at 10:41 PM
The guy who claimed to be 3% is on the BFL website. I believe that it also depends on your age, for men below 30 it is possible to be in the high 2 to 3% bodyfat and still be healthy.

For those of us eating authorized or modified authorized, I thought we could all post here what we were doing eating wise.
Am meal was Myoplex lite, meal 2 was tuna with a whole wheat tortilla.
Meal 3 just done, turkey, 1 tsp gravy, 2 tbs cranberry sauce made with splenda (which is an experiment not to be repeated. ;) green bean casserole made with lowfat milk, and reduced fat mushroom soup, and 2 tbs of Frenches Onions (45 calories on the onions), and a widdle, bitty baby punkin pie, top crust removed (don't start, it was pumpkin pie and didn't result in my single self having a whole pie for leftovers) 150 calories.
Now for a nap, and a second light intensity cardio to help things along. :)
Meals 4-5 to come.

I wanted to get in a morning workout, but a incident with the 4 dogs in the household I am staying with for a little while, lets put it this way, one swipe from a 150 pound newfoundland dog( she was trying to get the other dog, I was in the way trying to keep my pup from getting in on the scruffle)when I ended up with a huge A$$ scratch on the back of the knee that knocked me to the floor. This morning I woke up to a really large purple bruise, and now my knee feels like its out of commission. Enough whining. I had KASHI for breakfast, a half sandwhich for lunch, just waiting to eat Supper at 4.lol You all have a wonderful day.
Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (61 posts) at 05:31 PM
Well, after a 2 hour induced food nap, I jsut did my workout for today. Intensity wasn't at my normal level, but I gave it my best. That's all I can ever ask.

I have also already drank a GALLON of water today too :)

i did dang good today....
I woke up pretty late because I felt like crap all night, and had a bunch of coughing attacks. good times. But I woke up and went and did my cardio thinking, "well, at least i'm here, even if i just do a token session, just to say i did it..." This was as I was walking thru the gym. The minute I stepped on the treadmill that mindset was gone! I just transformed from a sick little excuses-making whiner and just had such a great run.
That totally fueled me up for the rest of the day and i've stayed on plan throughout the festivities.
i feel so great about myself right now (doesn't hurt that my pants are fallin' off me!)
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Ate clean all day , did allow for two cookies and one rice crispy treat, did my UBWO after dinner. Stayed away from the gravey and stuck to portion sizes at the main meal.

Well I had a fabulous cardio workout this morning.
And then I pretty much pigged out all day :) That's actually not quite true, but I definitely didn't eat six small meals today. The one thing I was quite pleased about was the fact that in years past I could really pack a ton of food away during Thanksgiving meals, but today it was just one plate of food at lunch and one plate of food at dinner. I did have dessert as well, but all in all my quantities were SIGNIFICANTLY less this year than ever before simply because my stomach isn't capable of that much any more :) Yay. ~Ang

Here i am....
90% sure i have hypoglycemia...and now...we will see if i have diabetical hypoglycemia. How cool see???
I want to vomit after workouts, i almost black out, i get running to eat glucose tablets...i just knew it did help me...but i never asked why i did have those troubles.
Come on...heart rate goes very fast with no reason, excessive sweating, vomit, nausea, trembling or shaking (in bodyparts that i didnt exercise), i cannot see well...i cannot focus...its hard to speak...i just want to sleep (and thats what i do...immediately i need to rest and sleep, and its morning!! even in the evening this happens). And i do sleep at night 8 hours.
But 2nd problem: at night i get heat and sweat attacks, hunger attacks, i tremble, shake, i feel i will go off.
And 3rd problem: after every meal....welcome to those symptoms. Sometimes more sometimes less.
This it has been happening since looong time. But i never asked why.
So i went to the endocrinologyst, and he said we must see what is happening. But he believes its hypoglycemia. And this also prevents me from losing weight.
So ok....tomorrow 3 hours at the hospital...with...75 grams glucose. He wanted 100, but i was scared....maybe i will try 100, i will ask there again.
So ok...every time i workout i feel like this,....what can i do??? I cannot start eat 30 grams glucose everytime!!!! It just doesnt help really, i need more.
Gosh...i really need a break...come on...i am not losing weight, nor feeling fine. I tried reduce my carbs...and now i have seen that maybe i have hypoglycemia so....reducing carbs wont be the solution.
I need have balanced meals...so i can sleep more LOL
Today i cheated...which wasnt funny...i am sooo nervous...fed up....
My grandma died of hypoglycemic diabetes, my mom have diabetes too...with hypoglycemia...and me????? My dad have mild hypoglycemia mmmm my sister i thinks she haves it too.
Anyway...here i am...i hope that they find it...cause often they cannot find it unless they test you when you have the "attack".
Anyway...if any suffer from it....write your comment, treatment, how do you go day by day.
Even if you dont.-...
Take care

for hypoglycemia itself...i still didnt see any medication except glucagon injection for severe symptoms.
For mild to moderate....well...just eat glucose rich stuff when you have low sugar or feeling certain symptoms.
For diabetical hypoglycemia...there is....

I get similar symptoms when I eat donuts...regardless of the time of day. Something about donuts makes my blood sugar plummet and I feel horrible. Eating a donut can literally ruin my day. I have had trouble with my blood sugar getting low all of my life but I've learned how to eat to avoid the drastic drops in blood sugar. I find that eating more protein and avoiding simple sugars (i.e., the BFL way) makes a huge difference. IF I do have something sugary, I have to make sure I have something with protein along with it, kind of like an anchor, to help keep things steady.
I used to work with a lady with hypoglycemia and she always had peanuts with her for times when she felt her blood sugar was dropping. I find it helps too...grab a handful of nuts when you feel shaky and see if that helps.
Body for Life Forum Message by mom2threegirls (21 posts) at 09:22 PM
ok first of all once you have the tests done if you are hypoglycemic i'm sure your doctor will have you see a dietician and they can tell you what to eat to control it. if you see a dietician take them a couple of what you are eating and they can go from there. most of the time it is controled by dieting. i've gone through this as well myself.
Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (61 posts) at 10:08 PM
Treat the problem before you continue with trying to lose weight. Learn to control the sympoms.
You can lose weight while diabetic or hypoglycemic. We get into a mindset that says sugar is bad for us. It's not. Like any nutrient it's bad in bulk, uncontroled.
Start by getting the symptoms under control. Make sure to tell the dietician you work with what your fitness goals are.

Start.....stop....start again...stop,....start again...WHAT GIVES?? If that is how your challenges are going, maybe what you really need is a true commitment, a reason so strong that it's greater than the desire to sleep in, or overeat, or fall to injuries. <br>The words Tim McGraw are an excellent reminder of what it really takes!<br><br>"Can you feel it? Can you taste it? Can you hear it knocking at your door?<br>How bad do you want it? How bad do you need it?<br>Are you eating, sleeping, dreaming, with that one thing on your mind?.......Cause if you want it all, you've got to lay it all out on the line!"

Mike, I was thinking this morning about my "reason" for starting BFL. We all MUST have a reason, we are told. The REAL truth was all in the math: 6 meals a day and only 20 minutes (i.e., 20 minutes if you subtract the rest periods off of the resistance training days) of exercise 6 days a week. And then there was free day. Sounded like the program for me :)
Body for Life Forum Message by Wrecky (34 posts) at 06:17 PM
I took those lyrics and taped them to my mirror and my BFL book that I drag around the gym when Im training. I WANT THIS SO BAD I CAN TASTE IT.

Do you want this bad enough to stay on schedule even when a holiday hits?
Do you want this so bad you will walk away from a plate of holiday goodies?
To borrow a quote from elsewhere:

Capture YOUR moment of glory. Want it, do it. No excuses.

Couple of past Grand Champions have done the same thing.
My advice- don't seek perfection. Seek progress. Small, baby steps. Make a game you can win. It's easy to quit when you set incredible goals and can't see a way to get there.
Start with small, easy to reach goals. Retrain yourself to win. Step by step.

Welcome, Greg.
Just give the program just 12 short weeks. Come on, 12 weeks is very short when you look at it in your lifeline. Honour your self promises and kick some butt.
Giid luck, Annette

I grew up in a great family. Supportive, loving, and there for each other. My parents encouraged me to play sports. I never really had a negative self image. But if I'd been a guy, they would have called me stocky. I was never small and petite. I never thought of myself that way.
In 2001 I did my first BFL challenge after seeing a shot of my with my first godchild. I had more double chins than he did. He was my reason to change. 16 weeks, and 40 pounds later I fit into jeans that I never, EVER in my life had fit into. I was down to a size 4. I discovered that I was a small, dainty female. Tiny was a word people used to describe me. It totally blew me away. I even discovered that I had an hourglass shape.
It took me making a leap of faith to find this out. I put complete trust into trying my hardest for 12 weeks. The results blew me away.
My suggestion to you- don't think about what you can't do. Look at what people have done. Place total faith in those results. Make the leap.

The so called melt down began for me many years ago when I got my butt off the couch.
I have been a strong supporter of strict compliance with the BFL system of life improvement ever since. I guess I should have official entered the challenge back them... But made and make a choice each year just to help people instead.... Kindda a Bill Phillips thing I learned with the program over the long haul.
Even if you feel worried that you are not acheiving fast enough results, I beg you to please perfect your program and keep the system for life.
You will be glad you did.... Trust me!!!
