Thread: how to post pictures??? (45 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Kelly (1 posts) at 01:15 PM: how to post pictures???
Can anyone give me "leg up" on how to post your pictures??? I really want to post them so I am accountable for hundreds of thousands of people seeing them!!! That will be motivation!! I have checked it out but am unclear on how to do it. I do have a digital camera and have them on the disc right now just need to know how to transfer them to here. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! Has anyone ever just sent them in to the address posted? Kelly

  • #1: Click on "Profile"
  • #2: Click on Edit/View Profile
  • #3: Click on "Add Photos"
  • #4: Scroll down to where it says "Challenge/Week to Add Photo To". There is a drop down box where your weeks (the weeks that you've entered info for) appears. Select the week that corresponds with the picture on the disk.
  • #5: Select "Photo Angle" and "Photo Type" by clicking the appropriate button.
  • #6: Add any notes that you want to appear below the photo.
  • #7: Click "Browse". This will bring up your computer stuff. Since you are pulling your photos from a disk, you will want to look for the CD Drive. Once you find the photo, click on it and then click "Open".
  • #8: Click on the "Add Photo" button to start uploading. Hoep that helps. Let me know if you need more info.

Thread: Charting - just not feeling like it! (99 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Jen in Maine (18 posts) at 03:00 PM: Charting - just not feeling like it!
Is it such a big deal that, instead of me writing out a new chart each night with the plan and then filling in the actual during the following day, that I just keep using old charts and making little columns with that day's date at the top? I'm working on proper form w/my dumbbells anyway so I'm not increasing my weight and figured I'd just start some new charts next week because I can tell I'll be increasing by then. As far as the diet, I just don't feel like planning it when I can just grab a protein with a carb and have fruit/veggies along w/that during the day. I admit I'm being lazy w/ this. And I plan on doing better next week. I'm also not getting my workouts in until later in the day and a couple of times I have done my cardio/weight training in the same day and skipped days that way. So, instead of all six days - it's been more like 4 or 5 days. I know if I keep going this way I might give up but was just wondering if I have hurt my progress. Sunday is the end of week 4 for me and I don't want to quit when I have made such great changes. I have had a horrible cough and cold that has almost gone away and then come back and I have been sick like this since day one of my challenge and it is just getting to me. Thanks for "listening" and for advice on the charting questions - Jen I'm home all day w/homeschooling and four children so that's why I think it gets easy for me not to bother w/the charts. I make all my food and don't have to pack it and all that. Also - I don't have a LOT of weight to lose. I'm at 19.1% body fat and want to get that down to at least 13%. I'm not so much interested in losing weight but in getting rid of the flab and putting some muscle on in place of it.

Body for Life Forum Message by fitchic25802 (359 posts) at 03:19 PM:
First off, if you're coughing and it's not going away, you need to take a few days off to get rid of it. Why do you want to get to such a low body fat percentage? You're at a very good percent right now. As for the way you're planning, if you're doing okay right now with that, then that's fine. As long as you're still getting results and still exercising. I can see where it's hard for you to keep the charts with everything that you do...homeschooling, 4 kids. That keeps you pretty busy. Just let the cough get better. I made that mistake last year and ended up sicker because I didn't want to stop when I should have. Take care and get well soon. Crystal

Body for Life Forum Message by ptwob2 (208 posts) at 03:58 PM:
I found that when I got lazy on the charting, I got lazy on everything and results just stopped. Make the time and do it, even if it feels silly. As far as the BF%, do what you want, it's your body.

Body for Life Forum Message by Jen in Maine (18 posts) at 06:56 PM:
When I got my body fat %, they told me that I was in "excellent range." They said that I could go down to 10-13% and that would be in the "superior" category so I figured I'd go for it. I think it will be the only way to really tighten up after having four children. I think I will def. get back to the charting because I can feel myself heading in the direction of getting lazy in everything. So far the only "mess-up" is lack of charting and I should probably take measures to keep it that way instead of letting myself go further. Thanks - really helpful! have a good one - jen

Body for Life Forum Message by fitchic25802 (359 posts) at 09:25 PM:
Good for you for not "messing up" even without the charting. Keep up the good work and go for your goal. If you weren't advised against that low of a body fat % then if you're up for the challenge, go for. Good luck.

Ok - I just started taking this yesterday - I'm wondering how and when y'all take these... It said take 2-3 twice a day, at least 4-5 hours apart, and an hour before workouts. So I set 2 next to my bed with a glass of water yesterday morning. I set my alarm for 4:30 so I could take them, go back to sleep for about 30 minutes while they started working, and then go workout. Well I didn't need an alarm clock - the burning in my tummy woke me up. It wasn't horrible, just not comfortable either. I decided I should probably eat a little something with it. So this morning, I did the same routine, but at 1/2 a granola bar. Woke up after 30 minutes and went to walk the dog. My stomach was on FIRE. I was doubled over in pain for the next 30 minutes to an hour. Does anyone have any recommnedations?

Body for Life Forum Message by Wrecky (111 posts) at 12:23 PM:
Mine is on fire too. I had it this morning. VERY NOT comfortable LOL. I also set my alarm an hour prior to having to get up, but that didn't work too well. I took 2 my first day (yesterday) thats all. Then today just one. One was better than 2. I dunno, I've read reviews this morning on this product and LOTS of people did not like the burning sensation. Also, it sends me to the bathroom in minutes...forget Flax man!

You no doubt need morethan one scoop! How many calories or grams are in a scoop?

Body for Life Forum Message by ptwob2 (208 posts) at 08:22 AM:
I use the EAS Myopro Whey and it has the same directions. I use 2 scoops and 8 or more oz of water. It doesn't matter how much water you use. The amount of water will determine how thick the shake is and that is personal preference. Do what you want. Mike

    Thread: Karma (96 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Darrell (212 posts) at 08:30 AM:
Q: What is Karma? A: Karma is a point system designed to help encourage people to post helpful information in an informative and pleasant manner. Any validated member with Karma points to give can give Karma through the Karma Button () displayed at the bottom of each message when reading messages. Each member receives 5 karma points to give to others per day that will accrue each day to a maximum of 25 saved points. You may gave other members either 1 or 5 postive karma points for their posts if you like the message they posted or find it helpful. If a member posts a negative message, you may give them 1 negative karma point. Any karma points you give are deducted from your saved points. A members karma is displayed in each message under their name and title. In addition to rewarding members for good posts, karma also helps new users evaluate the information they are reading. For instance if a person reads a comment from a member with a lot of negative karma from uninformed or negative messages, that person will know not to blanketly trust the information given by the member with negative karma. Conversely, when a person reads a message from a member with a lot of karma, they will have a good idea that they can probably trust what they are reading.

Persuasive Developmental Disorder- A part of Autism.... It is when something ain't working just right in the head... For example, when your child is so smart that he can pick any lock in the house and off he goes, but he can't say a full sentence or say his own name. He can operate a DVD player and VCR. But he still only speaks 1/2 of the word, either the first part or last part and has not to the date, spoke a sentence to me... I can see his brain just a going when he watches Baby Einstein or Blues Clue videos,,, he will watch an entire tape but that is it, I even have to strap him down to eat dinner. He likes to get up and run off with his food....

UPDATE::: Went to the local Elementary school and they had a board of 3 ladies that specialize in different areas and we talked for about 30 minutes. I signed some paperwork giving them my authorization to go and monitor Cameron at daycare... Evaluate him and probably even come to the house to see what and how he is... 2nd part,,,tomorrow I have an appointment with his psychologist at Tripler,,.. She wants to know more in depth how his behavorial habits are... and she is submitting me for STATE assistance... which I will receive funds and hire someone to come and work with him a couple times a week, after work, weekends, so I can go grocery shopping, watch a movie or just get out and at the same time, they will work with him.... I heard they were both good programs and I am willing to do them both... I have to make something happen, can't just sit around and hope he turns out ok.. I have to admit, I am worried and it being the holiday season, it is making me think a lot,,,

Dawn my cousin used a marble jar for her daughter. Every time she showed good behavior she got to put a marble in the jar. (From Nanny 911) Her little girl changed immediately. She didn't want to have to take a marble out of the jar. When the jar fills up she gets to buy something that has been predetermined between her and her parents. Another suggestion I have...because my husband deploys all the time, we have date nights with our kids (separately). Each week we can. He will take our daughter out and I will take our son, then a couple days later we switch. I think it is so important to our kids to know that they are special to us individually. The school thing sucks, but he has to have consistency. The rules at school should be the same at home as long as they are reasonable. Then, he will understand the consequences, and that mom and dad agree with the consequences. Also, have you thought that maybe he is bored at school? I know that happens a lot. Maybe the teacher could have an extra coloring page, or something he can do in addition to his schoolwork if he is bored. Anyway, I hope all these posts give you some suggestions. Just remember, kids act up. They all go through phases, and you are a good mom. The fact that you are asking for help tells us all that you are a good mom, you love your kids, and you want the best for him....DON'T TAKE SANTA AWAY....EVER! Becca

Thanks for all the help and advice. AN UPDATE: I did talk to my counsler. I drew a picture of a ginger bread man. I grabbed some crayons. a Green resembled(wishing his brother wasn't around) blue was sad, orange; happy (this is his favorite color) Red, Mad. He colored the Ginger bread man's eyes green and the back ground green, He colored the body blue. She suggested to continue with this each day. Also instead of in the mornings which I say you better be good today. To say I hope you have a happy day. She did say at this age they can not communicate how they feel very well. So to continue with it. And attention attention! So I will work on this. So far so good today. He has been good per his teachers. So I will give him a big treat tonight. Not sure what yet. Thanks again. Its been very helpful. You all are great!!!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. I think that "training" our children as opposed to just plain "disciplining" them is a far better way to reach them. Discipline is a neccesity but training them BEFORE you have to discipline is key. I have not succeeded at this but have seen the benefits of it with my 5 and 7yr olds. Try "practicing" good behavior with positive rewards. Make a game out of it, for instance, if one of the things you would like to work on with him is coming to you when called, make a training game. Tell him you are going to play a game so have him go into a room where you can;t see him and tell him when you say his name that he should run to you and say "Yes mom". Then you pick him up and hug him real tight and make it really fun for him. Do this a few times and give him a reward, make him feel special. When we positive train it makes them WANT to do the right thing as opposed to doing it because YOU want them too. It will get better, I promise. It sounds like you care about him very much!! Shelly =)

Body for Life Forum Message by Udenia (2056 posts) at 05:17 PM: Been Crying since the Doctor officially told me!

What did I do wrong? Why does this have to happen to that beautiful baby? I know they tell you that it is nothing you did? But who else are you going to blame. I broke down at work twice and just had to come home.. A Chief Petty Officer blubbering is not a good thing... I can't function so I had to come home and cry it out. I cried all the way home. He does have Autism but the doctor is not going to say to what degree, but the bottom line is THAT HE WILL ALWAYS HAVE IT.. and that is what I am furious about,,why, why, why? Damn it, why? Why my baby? I am a single parent that loves her son more than life, and now,,,, oh give us something else to endure? Won't you?

Can't I get a little help down here? I feel so bad for him, it would kill me for him to get picked on, or beat up for something he doesn't know he is doing wrong? Kids are cruel, so cruel and they do not care who they hurt.. I do not want my son going thru that?

I have a lot of appointments ahead of me in the next few months, two psychologists, two doctors, two different state services trying to assist... He got evaluated today by the school board, don't know what the outcome was of that? But I am sure I will know soon...

More appointments, more evaluations, and then the medications... He has to get medically screened to make sure he doesn't have any type of SYNDROMS? Then academically screened, then cognitive screening

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (84 posts) at 05:27 PM:
I am crying with you right now, and I wish I was there to hold you. Your questions are right on. Why does anyone have to endure issues like this, or the teasing, etc.? We do not know what the future holds. And hold your son tight, and treat as the son you so dearly love and cherish as you always have. I want to take away your pain and the autism, but I cannot. Just remember there are others who care about you, even though we do not truly know each other. We are friends in cyberspace, with a BFL bond. That is enough for me. Andrew

Udenia- I have no experience with Autism but I've had friends with children who are autistic. I also have a friend with a daughter who has Downs Syndrome. I know this must be an awful lot to take, especially since you are alone and will be responsible for him for his entire life. We all know how much parents love their children, but we'd all love to see them go on with their life at some point. I'm so sorry it turned out this way. The only advice I have for you it to utilize the resources that are out there for you. There are numerous support groups, books and organizations that can help you by answering your questions and putting your mind at ease. I found 2 places so far that look like they have some useful information, I will look around some more and let you know what I find. Good luck, if you were within driving distance of me, I'd come and give you my shoulder to cry on. Take care, Monica http://www.autismhawaii.org/ http://www.autism-resources.com/

Udenia, The first thing you need to do is take a deep breath. God will keep you strong and get you both to where you need to be. There is something you need to remember, you son doesnt know he is any different just because the doctor spoke some words. Dont treat him that way. I know that really sounds harse and I dont mean it to be. He is still mommy's little boy and that is all he knows. Get hooked in to the autism group where you are. They are going through this and you can lean on them. We are all here for you to scream at cry with and pray for and we are praying for you. I'ms sorry I cant be there to give you a hug and a shoulder to cry on but just remember you are NOT ALONE. Hugs and prayers, Dawn

Udenia, hang in there. I'm praying for you. If you look on the internet, there's tons of information on autism and a lot of helpful guides for you to go through it easier. I cared for a boy at a daycare here locally who had autism. The other providers couldn't handle him and treated him really badly, but as soon as I noticed that he showed the signs and symptoms of autism it was a little easier to get through to him. PM me or email me if you need anything. Like Dawn said, you aren't alone. We are here for you through it all. Big Hugs, Crystal

I am reading a book right now by Charles Colson, the founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries, and a lot of the book--called "THe Good Life" is about how many things Mr. Colson learned from his autistic grandson, Max, and from his daughter who is Max's mother. I know your head is spinning now, but if you get time at some point, this is worth looking through. God bless!

Hey kiddo... I am so sorry that you are going through what you are going through. I can only imagine how painful it must be. I sincerely believe that God never gives us more than we can handle. But,I have to admit that sometimes I'm just perplexed as to why certain things happen to good people. For example, my mom's sister had two of her children born mentally retarded. They were in and out of institutions for most of their lives. And then they passed away at a young age. There is no way that will ever make sense to me... I have come to a point of acceptance that we'll never know the reasons in this life... and that despite those adversities, life can still be fulfilling and rich... I pray that God will comfort and see you through this difficult time... Jim

Thread: The best time to workout? (233 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (58 posts) at 06:50 PM:
I also agree with Mike on this one. The argument in favor of fasted early morning cardio goes something like this: 1. When you wake up in the morning after an overnight 8-12 hour fast, your body’s stores of glycogen are somewhat depleted. Doing cardio in this state causes your body to mobilize more fat because of the unavailability of glycogen. 2. Eating causes a release of insulin. Insulin interferes with the mobilization of body fat. Less insulin is present in the morning; therefore, more body fat is burned when cardio is done in the morning. 3. There is less carbohydrate (glucose) "floating around" in the bloodstream when you wake up after an overnight fast. With less glucose available, you will burn more fat. 4. If you eat immediately before a workout, you have to burn off what you just ate first before tapping into stored body fat (and insulin is elevated after a meal.) 5. When you do cardio in the morning, your metabolism stays elevated for a period of time after the workout is over. If you do cardio in the evening, you burn calories during the session so you definitely benefit from it, but you fail to take advantage of the "afterburn" effect because your metabolic rate drops dramatically as soon as you go to sleep. Even Bill Phillips himself preaches to workout in the morning on an empty stomach and in some way or another he is linked to the reason that we are all on this website. Save $10 a week like I did and buy an bike or treadmill, then you can save a half hour or hour in the AM.

Body for Life Forum Message by fitchic25802 (359 posts) at 09:29 PM:
The best time to work out is when you have the energy to give it your all. There's no proof that working out in the morning on an empty stomach is any better than working out 3 hours after dinner. However, I did read an article by a professional trainer that if you are trying to build muscle, then you don't want to work out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach because your body will burn your muscle as fuel for your cardio workout because there's nothing else to use. Seems kind of counterproductive to me. As for me, I'm not a morning person either and after I had my kids, I can't workout in the mornings on an empty stomach or I get really sick to my stomach. So, the only way for me to do it is 3-4 hours after I eat dinner. As long as you're getting your workout in, there's no better time to do it. Good luck. Crystal

I know this is an old thread, but just thought incase someone was interested, typically a salon that provides a professional wax will also offer lotion that helps soothe the skin after a waxing as well as delay regrowth of hair. Methods for success really depend on your hair type. Many people with coarser hair will opt for a close trim because the grow back after shaving or waxing might cause bumps.

Body for Life Forum Message by michaeld925 (20 posts) at 02:21 PM:
getting it off initially is the hard part. But maintaining isnt so bad. Shaving is not really so bad....In the shower I use liquid soap to get it off...takes a little longer in the shower...but only do it once a week.. The back is always the hard part without a wife/gf might have to resort to go to waxing.

Hey Jim you have come a long way from the looks of your profile. I spend time on the side with kids that are in therapy for addiction and I have learned alot from listening. One of the most important things in life is choice. Everyone is born with the ability to make choices in life whether its the choice to do positive things and help others or negative things like drugs, gangs, or even overeating or eating unhealthy. The truth is that most people know what choices are right but they make the wrong choices because they are easier or they get pulled in by their environment. You have to dig deep inside yourself and realize that you are better than that and seperate yourself from those that chose to make life difficult. You KNOW what you have to do and whats right to do and ONLY you can make that choice, so as Nike once said Just Do It!

Jim, friend… inspiration… champion. I wish that you were as forgiving of yourself as you are of others. Read your words as though they were written by one of your many BFL friends. How would their obstacles impact you? What would you tell them? Would you be harsh and unforgiving towards them or would you reach out your hand and help your friend up? We all know that you would reach out and help. I am glad that you shared with us so we can reach out our hands and help you off the canvass. But, my friend, you must empathize with yourself… forgive yourself… shake off the negative feelings and get back in the game. I wish I could come out and hit the gym with you. But, unfortunately, I cannot. So, here’s what I’m doing instead. Although I already did my workout today, I am going to do another 20 minutes of cardio in your honor. I’m not going to like the feeling but at least you’ll know that someone else out there is not enjoying their workout, too. So, if you decide to workout today you’ll know that somewhere, someone else is doing a little extra in your honor. If you can bring yourself to sweating today, please let us all know. If you can’t, don’t worry, we got your back. See you in the gym (metaphorically speaking!)

Thanks everyone for your supportive and obviously heartfelt replies... It means a lot to me to have friends who understand. I can tell though that it's hard to communicate some things via text. I want to assure everyone that I NEVER even considered giving up! I've been through these little wake-up calls ever since I started having problems with chronic illness in 1996. But dealing with chronic illness - especially a hormonal disorder like mine - can drain your physical and emotional energy so much that you lose your focus and your edge. I've fought that reality for years each time trying to find some way to avoid taking a hit from weeks or months of being sick. But what I've learned is that even with the best outlook and most effective coping skills the truth is that sometimes you are simply going to run out of gas... Add in the falling-out recently with long-time friends along with some other pressing issues, such as the IRS threatening to levy my disability income (for past taxes I already paid!), and it's easy to see why I was running on empty... But I gotta tell ya, I make it a point not to tear myself down during my little self-talks - actually quite the opposite -although it may be hard to tell from my post. I always say something like the following: "You're a good man, Jim... I'm not trying to beat you up. Lord knows, you don't need that. And few people would blame you if you decided to just give in to the illness and sit around drinking and overreating and just trying to escape the pain of being sick... But I know you'll never give up and I'm just trying to find a way through this latest storm. I'm so sorry that you've had such a rough time... but I also know that it's important to you to make the best of the situation and keep your dreams alive... That's who you've always been and I know you'll never settle for less..." Jim

I also lift heavy because my training partner is the largest guy in the gym so I can't get away with lifting "girlie" weights.I also mainly train in a guys gym as well. I lift 420kgs on leg press,175kgs on squats, bench press 65kgs,decline dumbell bench press 50kgs and do tricep dips and pull-ups unassisted with and without extra weights added. I lift more than most of the blokes in the gym on legs and revel in it.So long as my technique is strict I lift heavy weights. I hope this helps(sorry do not have measurements in lbs).Good luck with your training. Sharon

Lower body: up to 120 on squat and leg press....I want to get it to 140 by the end of week 13 (Dec. 17th)

Good to hear all of you are kicking butt on the weight lifting !! My senior year in highschool when I was 8 months pregnant I benched pressed 180 pounds, not just a one time lift my PE teacher said I had to do it 3 time in order for my name to be put on the lifting hall of fame....I DID IT... course he said that he wasnt liable if I went into labor after lifting.lol Now if I can just get there again With out being pregnant it will be all great.

My brother introduced me to BFL. He was an addict for a while and got good results but then got derailed and distracted by his studies. Now I want to inspire him to get back on the program. He's expressed an interest, but I'm afraid his being a vegetarian may make the program difficult to follow. Are there any vegetarians out there that have successfully done the challenge? Can you offer some advice I can pass along? Thanks!!

Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (147 posts) at 08:12 AM:
It will make it difficult! Though it depends somewhat on what you mean by "vegetarian." If he can eat egg whites and fish he will be fine. If he's one of those who literally won't eat anything but plant food, it will be very hard to get enough quality protein to make it. One can only take so much soy protein and beans and rice! There's a club on the Body for Life Site, under the "community" link that is for veggies. You might check that out.

So I've been reading all the threads from BFL folks who get comments from others they don't even know saying how great they look, which really means you must be making progress, right? Well, I don't expect that because my progress isn't as dramatic as what I see many of you doing (great job!) so this morning was a big deal to me :) I totally destroyed the treadmill this morning - I went up to a level 9 at 1% incline - as close to exercise-induced suicide as I could get. Afterwards, I'm walking (okay, crawling) back to the locker room past the front desk lady who's been watching me the whole time...and she stops me with this look of awe on her face and whispers, "You work HARD!" Body for Life Forum Message by Strong Mind (10 posts) at 10:50 AM: The Scale....
This is mainly for the people who are just beginning who go by the scale for satisfaction, as we all know when weight training is involved and creatine and glutamine and drinking ALOT of water ...YOU DONT GO BY THE SCALE, you go by how your clothes fit. Alot of people starting out like to look at the scale like I use to but realized thats a losing battle ...one day down 2 lbs. the next day up 3 lbs so remember this theory: Lets say you lost 4lbs of water, gained 3 lbs of fat and lost a pound of muscle. When you jumped on the scale, it would read that you lost 2 lbs. The chances are that you felt pretty goodabout your self, even though the reality is taht you gained 3lbs. of fat. You just didnt know it. In the second scenario, you've lost 4lbs of fat and gained 5 lbs. of water. The scale read that you gained a pound, when the truth is you lost 4lbs of fat. Your reaction would be one of disappointment. REMEMBER THIS!!!!!!

It doesnt lie, it just doesnt tell the whole truth :)

Body for Life Forum Message by CoachMike (20 posts) at 12:19 PM:
The scale doesn't lie, it is the ultimate truth teller. But it is also stupid. It tells you how much you way at that moment and that is all. So, I have to be the smart one. I weigh myself every day. I don't recommend this for everyone, but it works for me. I know that I will gain 4-5 of water weight on my free day. I know that if I eat clean all week that the water weight will come off. And I know that on Sunday morning when I have my "official" weigh-in that the water weight will be at a low because of the physical part-time I do on Friday and Saturday nights. My point is that knowledge is power and if we ignore the scale we can fool ourselves. I use the scale as a tool to tell me if I am on track to my goals or not. Again, I know this philosophy is not for everyone (my wife would freak out if she saw that she gained 4 pounds on her free day), but it works for me. Have great day everyone! Mike

Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (84 posts) at 12:23 PM:
In my mind, the scale is not all that bad. You just use it as a guide. Up 1 pound? Down 3 pounds? Up 2 pounds? Who cares? I use my scale just to kind of guage where I am at, and as a reminder to me to stay true to the BFL eating plan. My real guage of how I am doing is the mirror and my clothes. I started this plan back in July with a 38 - 40 waist, depending on what pants I was wearing. Now, 7 weeks into my 2nd challenge? I am into a 34 waist, and I actually was able to get into a size 32, although i did not buy the 32's! So, consider using the scale as just a daily reminder to stay true, don't get discouraged with fluctuations or no change, and if you find it helps, use the scale and at what it tells you to focus your disappointment into making your workout more intense!!

I do not even own a scale! I don't think it's worth my money so I just step on one at the doctor's office or if I'm at a girlfriend's house I'll hop on for fun. A couple of weeks into BFL and I noticed I could wear this one pair of pants I have without getting the wedgie they always gave me (lol). My scale is my size 6/7 pants. If I start getting fat (before I found BFL), I wear them anyway and it kills my desire for junk. But let me tell you I have had four children, gained and lost 35 lbs. each time and always went down to my size 6/7 pants but I was SO out of shape! So what really matters is being strong and having energy - I think the rest will fall into place! I'm expecting to be one of those girls who sees minimum weight loss but will probably wear a smaller size just due to my body changing...I wouldn't even by surprised if I ended up weighing more! I'm in week four and happened upon a scale this evening and I'm still at 128. Of course I WAS wearing all my clothing and shoes...lol.

Its one of the issues Bill Phillips mentions in his book. He says something to the effect that you need to know that you can have it or else you feel you are deprived and then dive right in.  The free day is meant to give you the opportunity to indulge if you need it.  Dont eat what you know makes you feel bad...believe me I know this is easier said than done. You get to where you just cant tolerate the junk and therefore change your way of life...I think the sickness is just a reminder of what you used to do to yourself EVERYDAY before you decided to make the change.  Eat what you like and what you enjoy, it doesnt necessarily have to be junk or anything unhealthy  just because its your "free day".  Just my perspective:)

Hey I started my first challenge this week, and everything seems to be going great. I haven't missed a meal, or a workout, so here's my question: On Fitday.com I am entering all my food each day. I am right at 1400-1500 calories, and 40% carbs, 40% protein, 20% fat. My nutrients are all great, except Vitamin K...but doesn't that come from the sun? I'm in San Diego, I think I'm getting plenty of sun! Anyway, I am really serious about this challenge, and I want to do what is best for my body....so I can eventually shed this nasty layer of fat and build a tremendous amount of muscle...so, should I be limiting my calories? If so, what range should my calories be in? Becca

Honestly, I wouldn't limit your calories any more than they are now. Looks like a good nutrient ratio. If you seem to be getting hungry in the evening, up your calories by about 100-200 more a day until you seem more satisfied. I used a calorie calculator previously and for my height, weight and my workout routine my calorie range to lose is 2000 calories. The more in shape you get, the more calories you'll need to fuel your body to lose weight or maintain your current weight. Good luck with your challenge. Crystal

I think you're right on target Becca! But listen to your body and if you do get really hungry then add 100-200cals like Crystal recommended. Good luck with your challenge!

Thanks for your advice. I am not hungry. I haven't been hungry since I started the challenge. I'm drinking so much water, (I never drank it before), so I think my body is VERY satisfied. It's screaming, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! You are finally feeding me right:)

Becca, You are the same height as I am. I also joined Weight Watchers and lost 20 lbs a few years ago. I started running at about the time I became lifetime. I kept the weight off but still wasn't happy. I was flabby but in great cardio shape. I wanted to firm up and lose some body fat so I did this for 12 weeks. I probably ate about 1300 to 1600 calories a day doing BFL and it worked pretty good. I still have a long way to go but its a slow road home. You will do great, its a proven program. Have a great challenge.

I gave into my cravings tonight and blew my day. I started out with just one cookie and ended up having 4 and a bowl of icecream, boy do I feel sick!!!!!
I guess I'll have to use this as my free day, that sucks!!
I can't believe I gave in, I am so bummed out!!!!!!!!
I had been doing great staying away from all sugar and sweets. I really wanted to stay on course for the last 3 weeks of my challenge.  I'm pissed!! I hope this doesn't turn out to the beginning of a melt down!

Norm, Don't let it turn out to be the beginning of a melt down. You can control how this plays out. Don't obsess or get too upset. Move beyond it and all will be fine. YOU CAN DO IT! Remember: Progress NOT perfection. All the best to you, Rachel

Norm, You didn't blow your day! You had a free meal instead of a free day this week, right? So you actually will be doing great! You chose to have those cookies and ice cream - free meal...and if you want a free day next week just make sure to wait until that day for the sweets! You can do it!

I know what your saying but for the last 9 weeks I had stayed away from all sweets and sugar. I know I will use this as a free day but I am still pissed that I gave in. Thank you though for your supportive words I really needed it!

I just looked over your progress, and you are doing fantastic! Be proud of yourself! And if it took you 9 weeks to stay away from sugar, be even more proud! That's a feat in itself! You look wonderful! Keep up the hard work!

glad to have you on the site Nelson....you've chosen an intersting time of year to begin your first challenge.....I don't think I could have been so brave. My first challenge will end on December 17th. I plan to take a little down time (still work out regularly and stick with the EFL plan during the week and have free weekends **being Sat & Sun**). Then I'll start challenge 2 on January 2nd.
