I know this has probably been discussed before, but either its me or the search engine on this site sucks! LOL (sorry Webmaster)
1 - is anyone doing calorie cycling? This is where you have one high day of calories but still eating clean (ala Tom Venturo's BFFM). How is this working for you?
2 - is anyone cycling creatine?
I've been at this (my transformation) for over two years now, and I'm still learning. A good lesson I've learned is always be a student!
Thanks!

I haven't done the calorie cycling but I know a woman who has. She said for her the high calorie days just got out of control and so it went up in flames. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

well that was my problem before...but according to fitday.com Im buring around 5600 calories a day...and Im only taking in 2500-2700 calories a day
Body for Life Forum Message by anavywife (146 posts) at 08:36 AM
I think I do the cycling thing, just not real precisely...I usually tend to have a couple of higher calorie days through out the week and then follow with slightly lower ones. Its not a complete science for me, but I have found it keeps me from bingeing and is helping me to maintain the weight I prefer. If you know about weight watchers point counting, I might be able to describe what I am doing a bit clearer.

according to fitday.com, on workout days Im burning around 5600 calories. I'm taking in 2500-2700 calories a day..if you were me, would you keep your calories where they are, or bump it up a bit?
Body for Life Forum Message by anavywife (146 posts) at 09:35 AM
My question for you is, are you losing, gaining or at a plateau? If you are losing fairly consistently then why try to fix something thats not broken? If you are struggling to lose then I would bump it up ONLY a nothch or two at a time. Dont go drastic and start trying to eat 3500cal a day, just gradually increase your intake until you see something happening. This is all trial and error if you ask me, you gotta try everything until you find the right fit. Hope I helped you :)

Man, I'd doublecheck the fit day formula! Unless you're doing a ton of cardio and lots of extra stuff, I cannot imagine that you're burning 5600 calories a day! That's a lot--I know you're a big dude, Gary, but Lordie, are you sure that's right? If it is, you will be losing weight (fat) at about 3/4 of a pound a day if you stay at 2500 cals a day!
Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (260 posts) at 10:00 AM
Im doing a workout outlined in a MM from October 2001. Im doing cardio 6 days a week, but at different levels, times, and intensity levels
Body for Life Forum Message by Wrecky (112 posts) at 10:01 AM
2500 a day would be nice! I thought I was enjoying my 1200 but its hard to get 6 meals out of it!
Body for Life Forum Message by healthyme (26 posts) at 10:04 AM
Hi tigermuscle!
5600 cals does sounds like a lot. soes fit day take into consideration bodyfat percentage? If it doesn't then that's probably where the problem is. It's calculating you to be majority muscle. I think Crystal hit it right on the buzzer. I'd give yourself a couple of weeks before you try to experiment with cals as the scale may only be fluctuating because of sodium intake/muscle gain/other reasons.
Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (260 posts) at 10:08 AM
actually it does take into account bodyfat..the last time I got checked..which unfortunetly was week 1 I was at 32%
Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (260 posts) at 10:09 AM
the most I was thinking of bumping it was about 300 cal more
Body for Life Forum Message by tigermuscle (260 posts) at 11:36 AM
speaking of bump
Body for Life Forum Message by healthyme (26 posts) at 01:39 PM
Why not give it a go and bump it up by 300cals. Then you'll know for sure if it works or not.

I like the Neutrogena Mousse. It has a tanning guide for good coverage.
I recently tried Jan Tana but it did not have a color guide and it was kind of streaky so I am sticking with Neutrogena.

I use Fake Bake self-tanner from Ebay. It is not orange, does not streak, and only smells a little weird the first day.

Hi Guys, i asked a question regarding when to take betagen.
Marc Kindly replied.....
As for the Betagen… I am a big fan of that product. I believe in creatine and HMB. One thing with HMB… It has a 1½ hour “half life” (if you know your chemistry). Which for me, means that you should have it in your body at the highest concentrations when your muscles are under the most stress. I like to consume one serving of Betagen shortly before my workout, and one shortly after. If you have three servings a day… the 3rd serving could be at any time.
Hope this helps
God Bless

Udenia, My friend's nephew has Asberger's and is doing VERY well. He is in grade 6 and playes hockey and has a ton of friends. My previous doctor's son had autism and is doing fine (now age 20). None of us know what the future may hold in store. Of course this is your baby and you want only the best for your child. If you have Faith, ask for strength and understanding as you gain the information you need and get together with women you trust who live close to you. Sending you strength from across the miles, Janice

My friend's daughter was diagnosed with mild autism, and she functions perfectly fine in school. She is in a regular class and has a tutor that comes to her and works with her for a certain amount of time each day. She has lots of friends and is a happy 5 year old, just with some extra needs.
God bless you both!

The doctor who delivered my last three children had a son who was diagnosed with autism. She had done some research and decided to leave her practice to stay home with him. I heard recently that she has made amazing progress with him. I don't know what she did but it was some kind of therapy she read about.
I'm sorry you have to go through this!

Well this is going to be a long road. The state will give me $$ "don't know when that will start" to come by the house and work with him while I do adult stuff... and the school will send a team to his daycare to evaluate him. that is the next step, I am just a nervous wreck.

I have no experience in this, Udenia but I do have friends in your situation. The best advice I can give is for you to find a support group of other parents who have "been there and done that." Udenia, I am so sorry. We don't know why these things happen but I do know that you and your little boy will be fine. He has a wonderful and strong mother who will take the best possible care of him!
My mother is a kindergarten teacher and has had several autistic children in her class over the years. She always forms a huge bond with these kids and hates to see them go on to 1st grade. She has told me of one little boy who is in 5th grade now and doing wonderful. Stay positive and just wait...that little angel of yours is going to teach you a whole lot about life and love.

Just wanted to let you know you are in my prayers. It must be so difficult to process this, especially since you are doing it on your own. I know it seems hopeless and awful and downright scary right now, but once you become more informed about autism and his particular status, you will feel more in control and more positive about the future. Please know that we are here for you..keep us updated!

wow. I'm just sitting here wondering what to say. That is news that makes one look around at what they have an appreciate everything for what it is.
It's times like these that you have to go through a mental checklist in your head and bump up the things in life that are going right. Take heart in the fact that you can kiss your son goodnight, hug him throughout the day, and watch him smile at the things that we adults often forget to.
Start a journal and write down the things about your son and your relationship that you cherish, things that make you smile - esp. the little things! Take pride in all that he will accomplish.
Don't sweat the part about kids teasing - kids will tease no matter who or what. The old saying that "kids are cruel" is difficult for any parent to handle and will happen to all children more than once. But rest assured, there are kids out there with big hearts that understand differences in a way that amazes the most mature person.
God bless both you and your son. We're always here for you. Stay healthy and strong. You may have to replace some goals in life with others but keep making goals and keep meeting them. Regardless of the life ahead, continue to celebrate life itself!

Well today I am feeling the pain of crying all day yesterday...My eyes are so dry and tired.. and I keep seeing my baby's face in my head. He is SO HAPPY when he sees me at the end of the day, he runs wide open and jumps in my arms everyday.. He is so happy to see me..
that is what I live for, that one huge hug that I get from him...
now he is in the mood of crying after me when I drop him off in the morning, I know it is a stage that all kids go thru but it doesn't make it any easier..
and everytime I look at him, the doctor's words replay again and again...
It is hard to hear that your child is not perfect, I know no one is perfect, but I do not want the world to sale my son short! He deserves the best life!

Udenia, I am so sorry to hear of your troubling news. I have a couple questions: 1. How old is your son? 2. Did the symptoms of Austism show up post immunization/vaccination? If so and if you would like to discuss the subject with someone who really knows about this issue let me know and I will give you my friend's email address ... after I get her permission, of course!
I will keep both you and your son in my prayers as will others I have read here on your message board ... and ... when two or more come together in His name ...
I have children too and I am feeling your pain. Give your son a really big hug from Me, my hubby and our three children.

I know what you are talking about the MMR vaccine? Right? That is a hot topic in Congress right now as well as levels of Mercury. It seems that more now than ever, women have accelerated levels of mercury in their body and that can cause Autism. So I am looking into both of them and want to join some groups. Bottom line, I want to know what I CAN DO TO HELP HIM.... and I appreciate everyone keeping him in their prayers. This is a scary time for me...thank God he has no clue.

Hi guys
This is totally of topic. I was wondering what is your guys view of Africa and our people. Every one I know that visits the Usa come back with the same responses.
Question:
Where are you from
Answer
South Africa
Responses:
Is that in Mexico?
Is that a country?
Africa is not a country?
Are you afraid of all the wild animals lion etc walking through your town?
And the one every one gets?
But your white!!!!
What we here when they came back!
Most Americans have never left thier own state. Here it is weird if your over 25 and have never travelled overseas.
Cellphones are not that popular. Over here no matter what your income every one has cell phones.
Differences:
I know about corn dogs, tortillas and that waffels is a breakfast from movies. Here no corndogs, tortillas in restaurants and we mostly eat waffels at Milky lane with ice cream. We think its a very unhealthy breakfast
Your houses are made of wood and use gas ovens. Here everything is bricks and electricity.
You guys barbeque on gas and make hamburgers and hot dogs (honestly we find that funny) we Braai on coal, wood and make delicious stakes, boerewors- a type of suasage, chicken etc
Did you know:
The first hart transplant was doen in South Africa?
It would be interesting for me to hear what your views are on South African women and men. And do not mention poverty and Aids. That is not Africa just a problem that we have
Body for Life Forum Message by dreambig (62 posts) at 02:49 AM
I was in Tanzania a year ago and fell in love with Africa while there (I kow, it is a huge continent). I never generalise about a culture or a group of any kind. We all try to make sense of things and should not take things too prsonally. I am Canadian and have been asked by some, "or, it's really cold up there. Does it snow all the time?" Or, "Canada is like big wide open spaces, right?" and "So you speak Fench, right?" For kicks I once told someone when I was 19 that my lead dog, Inuvik, was sick and I couldn't ride my dog sled to school and I think I was believed. I did say I was joking though! I am all for talking and learning and educating others, I didn't know that the first heart transplant was done in South Africa!

Thats funny, Americans are overall dumb about any place they havent been. I am from Oklahoma and have several people have asked me if there are Indians there and if I live on a farm with horses to ride back and forth to town. What? can people really be this ignorant about their own country? Absolutely! Sorry about my babbling:)
I worked with a woman who lived in Africa all her life and met a true south african and married him and moved to the states. They are a white couple and she told of the many things that were enjoyable and not so about Africa. I actually did know about the heart transplant thing. I cant think of anything new you didnt say but good thread!! This will be interesting!

I think it would be better to inform people, no matter how "dumb" the question. Heck some people don't have enough money to leave the town they grew up in. There are many reasons why one might ask a "dumb" question. There are many assumptions about American Indians that I have had to deal with. Fact is, this is just a big ole world, and no one knows everything. If you don't ask, then you will never know.

Yes, Ursula that's exactly why I asked. I never said "dumb" questions. I saw an episode here on Oprah about women in their 30's around the world. I loved it she talked to country's like Belgium, Iceland etc. That's why I wondered what do you guys know and think about South Africa besides for poverty and aids or is that all that most of you know.
There's a lot about the country's like Iceland that I didn't know. She aslo asked them what do they think about American women, and all of them gets Desperate Housewifes in their country's. We included. I am asking for interest sake what the rest of the world think about South Africa?
Body for Life Forum Message by anavywife (146 posts) at 12:32 PM
I didnt mean to offend by saying "dumb" in my post and I didnt get to mention that I quickly inform the people that ask about farms and Native Americans that its just like anywhere else. We Oklahomans have cars, houses, electricity etc... I just think its interesting how little we all know about the world in general especially our own country.
Pheonix has asked what our views on women in South Africa are and to be quite honest I have no clue as to what to say. I have heard only what my friend has told me and very little else. As I can tell from her demeanor South African women are very self-sufficient, dependable, hardworking, and kind. Poverty is one of the things that come to mind, but at the same time, I assume its alot like America in that fact. I assume along with poverty there is also a certain amount of wealth.
Thanks for letting us in on your part of the world Pheonix. I would love to hear from some the other people that arent from the U.S. and their views.

Hey, Crystal, I'm from Oklahoma, too; I can't even count how many times I've been asked if I'm Native American when I tell non-Oklahomans where I'm from. There also seems to be an assumption we're all shoeless and illiterate!
I think it's very much apples and oranges to compare nations. Americans behave and live in a certain way because of their culture; South Africans behave and live in a certain way because of theirs.
(Also, I don't know if statistics would support that most Americans have *never* left their homestates--we have a highly developed transportation infrastructure. As for travel overseas, our nation is, geographically speaking, huge--within our borders you can see deserts, mountains, wetlands, tallgrass plains, sandy beaches, rocky coasts. You can really see a lot of different vistas without needing a passport, so it doesn't seem particularly strange that Americans might not travel overseas at the same rate as non-Americans).
Oh, and the first heart transplant: even more interesting than the fact that it was performed in South Africa is the fact that Christiaan Barnard was so forward-thinking that, even though it was during apartheid, he allowed a black gentleman named Hamilton Naki to assist, recognizing that skills are not determined by race.

Well I was a little shocked. I actually was begining to think they would vote off Rafe. Can't believe Lydia floated under the radar. Though people may want to be beside her in the final two, simply because she won't get a vote. Ha Ha. What are your thoughts????
Body for Life Forum Message by tinkerbell (299 posts) at 08:01 AM
I thought that they were going to turn to Rafe too. I was with Rafe and Danni about it being a no brainer and giving the cars away. I would've done that too. I'm not shocked they voted her off, she did win a car and she is a strong competitor. I'm more shocked at her attitude when she left saying "I'll be looking at the stars through my new moon roof while I think of you" or something like that. And Judd making a gesture in the background like "way to go," he's such an A**. Poor Lydia, she seems kinda clueless and will probably not win. But I think about that woman, I can't remember her name, who won against Colby in the final two, that was a shock.

That's fine I'm just joking - I've watched all these Survivours and until Jeff said there was a curse of the car, I'd never heard thought of it.
I would have given it up though, but not for the curse, just cause I've heard that the taxes and that of winning a car, make it not worth it and the goodwill it might have bought me could have been worth more.

Body for Life Forum Message by ashtrash (323 posts) at 05:11 PM
strategy wise - give the cars away! personally - what a cool feeling that would be, to give brand new cars to 4 of your friends?? When would you ever get a chance to do that!! I think that would be the best feeling ever. But I can't judge because i'll never be in that situation...
I'm glad they voted out Cindy (totally a brat response, not really surprised...)...hopefully Lydia then Steph next...
I'll be honest I knew about the "curse" but I don't really think its a curse - I think the other players justify someone being voted off because, "hey, they just won a car!!" And I could never vote someone out that just gave me a car...
And plus, it isn't like you are losing anything - you didn't have a car before the game, but you have achance to hhol for people up...that's my reasoning anyway...

Hi guys
Ok, dumb question I know but I have never used the stuff before. I have a very light skin. Have any of you ever had problems with self tan that stained or permantly made marks on your skin. Which products is the best to use.
Thanks
Body for Life Forum Message by cookie1135 (1151 posts) at 08:01 AM
I have very light skin also, and what I used for my pictures was the Loreal Sublime Tinted Bronzer. I used the darkest one they had. This worked well for me!! I wish you all the best!!!

I don't do well with the self tanners. I tend to get streaks, but I know they make a little glove or mitten of some sort to help apply it more evenly. Haven't tried that yet. This past spring I had the air brush tan done and it looked and worked really good. No streaks, not too dark and lasted about 10 days. Pretty much the same concept of the self tanning lotions except it's sprayed on. Works best if you already have a light base tan.
Good luck.
Crystal

I use Fake Bake self-tanner that I got off Ebay. It's easy to apply at night, and then you just rinse off the color indicator excess in the morning when you shower. You can see the difference it makes on my fair skin in my pictures. Please disregard my FACE!! LOL Not sure why it is so white....must have been the overhead lighting.
Body for Life Forum Message by georgiawendy (236 posts) at 09:21 AM
oops...meant to add that I had only put on one quick application for these pictures. If I use it for 2-3 nights in a row, then I can get a much darker base.

8 inches of SNOW here in Indy yesterday!
Took me 3 hours to drive about 15 miles last night, and that was after my boss sent us all home only an hour after the snow had started.
It's nuts! Can't anyone drive in the snow????
Got an extra workout in today too. My mom got home before the snow started, so she had about 1 foot of snow on her driveway. She didn't want me to shovel it for her and I had to remind her that I'm in shape and can handle it.

Try driving in NM when it snows, and snow here means maybe 2 - 3 inches in the city! People just freak!

Tell me about the first time you got a swimsuit and wore it in public!! did it feel empowering?

Ok, I have a new calendar idea. After some of the picture that I received thanks to Mellie's post about my birthday I had the idea for a more provocative calendar. For those of you that missed it Mellie's birthday wishes quickly turned into a request for pictures of me in my birthday suit. Well that started the ball rolling and I received several great submissions, but with just a few more we can cover all teh months of the year. And believe me, fromm what I've seen these photos could raise a whole lot more than those suggested before. So I'm treating this as a casting call. All you ladies that have made such great progress start working on your poses. The months will fill up fast! Send all submissions to my email address.
Mellie, this post is dedicated to you! You'ree my inspiration!

Who uses these to measure themselves? I bought some at GNC yesterday that said..."endorsed by BFL" but all they measure is your waist skin fold. Is this enough? Are they accurate? My waist is pretty small but my butt and hips...not so small! I want to have an accurate reading.
Thanks!!!
Body for Life Forum Message by Jame (5 posts) at 11:17 AM
i got a digital caliper off aliveandfit.com... with it you take measurements in 3 different areas, and then it calculates your % based on your age and sex.
Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (303 posts) at 11:47 AM
The accu-measure calipers (which I believe is what you bought) are supposed to be VERY accurate. I have some and it measures me within 1% of what mybodycomp.com measures me.

GB...yep, those are the ones I have and it is good to know they measure you accurate. I knew that the Omoran at the gym was a little high and I was right. I like the caliper results much better!

Who here varies their calories in cycles to ensure you don't plateau or lower your metabolism? Anyone know this method to work? How do you do it, like one day lower than normal then the next high or two days low one day high etc?
Any info anyone?
Body for Life Forum Message by healthyme (26 posts) at 01:46 PM
I have read that having a maintenance day after 3 low days will stop your metabolism from slowing down. There is no scientific evidence to prove this but I believe many fitness competitors do it. BFL was designed for people not counting calories and has a natural zig zag built into it. A portion of steak doesn't have the same as a portion of chicken. A portion of strawberries has way less cals than a baked potato. By choosing different foods each day you would have naturally had high and low days. I wish I'd never started counting calories but I think after 15 years it's pretty ingrained in me. Mind you, it hasn't done much for my eating unfortunately! I also have lost weight staying on exactly the same cals all week and then having a free day. If you want to know more about zig zagging google it and you'll find heaps. Tom Venuto is a big proponent of it.

Fitchic I have to disagree with you. It is true that working our is better than not working out so afternoons or night are better than never at all. And as far as all of the information that I give, 95% is backed by medical publications and studies the other 5% is what I have read or heard. I was talking about cardio and its effect on buring fat. Weight training is most beneficial in the early afternoon, for most ppl between 12:00 and 3:00. As far as professional trainers (I am assuming that he/she had a certification), they are a dime a dozen. I used to be a professional trainer after College. I went and got my 3 certifications while going to school for Sports Medicine and quiet frankly I could go on and on about trainer on here but I won't. Trainers are basically your run of the mill average joe that instead of being interested in shopping or tennis chose fitness. Now for every one really educated top of the line trainer you have 50 that just went and got a certification (which isn't too hard to obtain). When you do choose to use a personal trainer for guidance, check his/her backround and make sure that they weren't just working at 7-11 or the local bank last month and wanted some extra cash. Also ask them about their college education, most of the good trainers that I have met went to college for Sports Med or Exercise Phys. This is important because you gain much more knowledge at a University than you ever could reading publications or hearing opinions. Sorry to go off but I feel very strongly about this.

Well, this thread has certainly been helpful to the newbie! Here's what for sure someone can learn by reading all our posts. 1. It is best to work out whenever you can. 2. It is best to do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach. 3. It is best NOT to do cardio on an empty stomach because Chuckdiesel lost a "lot" of muscle doing it. 4. No one knows when it is best to do cardio. 5. Personal trainers are a bunch of know-nothing, unqualified morons who used to work at the 7-ll or just got out of prison! This has been a lot of fun, and I know I've learned a lot! NOT!
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (63 posts) at 01:21 PM
Mike, sorry to offend you or anyone else. I like to rant just like everyone else on here and I don't want anyone to be turned off by my posts. Maybe it was not good to go so in depth with my personal opinion. You assumed that I was referring to all personal trainers when actually I was just giving advice to people that you should learn about what you invest your money on before making a choice. Nice choice throwing in the prisoners? You have to realize though what you disagree with and might not learn from another Individual may gain some insight. I am impressed with your transformation and I commend you on your accomplishments and I value your posts even though I may disagree with them. I hope that everyone realizes that they can read everything that is posted on here but it come down to what They chose to believe and use. I am sorry that you didn't learn anything on here but I am sure that somebody did and thats all that matters. Thanks for you input though, its everyones opinions that makes this truly a forum!

you can always do a drop set. after you hit failure drop weight and finish your last 2.
Body for Life Forum Message by 4achange (15 posts) at 09:11 PM
My triceps are so stinkin weak that I can only do 3lb weights and hit failure on every set. LOL. So I did some research today and read that the lifting I am doing for my chest and shoulders is also using triceps secondarily. So, I am wondering too if I should try triceps first. I have also determined that I can lift 20 lb. weights for biceps because I am always lifting my 2 and 3 year olds...so I must be dropping them when I put them down instead of using those poor little triceps! Anyway, I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, but I push through each set, hoping the next UBWO I will be stronger....but don't drop the weights, I think broken bones in your feet my hinder your progress more. Just push yourself until you feel you might drop them.

Smith machines are a great thing to use. You may want to be careful doing squats on them though, I have seen alot of athletes injure their knees by doing this (unless it has an angle). Also don't forget to throw in some dumbell workouts to so that you can optimize your stabilizer muscles!
Body for Life Forum Message by amkazen (94 posts) at 05:33 PM
This took forever. The first Dr. made me wait and then I only saw a nurse practitioner..grrrr.
Anyway, she was concerned about a blood clot because of pain in the calf. I guess that is a classic symptom of blood clots. So, she sent me to have an venous doppler ultrasound done. That office got me in right away and there is no blood clot. They did find fluid on the calf muscle which to them indicates a tear in the calf muscle! YEAH! I am not crazy. Something wrong was found. I go back to the Nurse practitioner next Wednesday for treatment options.
i also have an appointment with the actual Dr. on January 12 to talk about a decades old weightlifting injury in my abdomen, that no Dr. has been able to do anything about. I have been told since 1979: there is no hernia, don't lift heavy things, stop exercising, it is in your head, etc. Well, guess what? There have been numerous articles lately about Donovan McNabb and his "sports" hernia. Those articles describe to a "T" what I have been feeling in my abdomen the past 2 1/2 decades!! Maybe, just maybe in early January I'll be able to figure out my abdomen pain, the one that I have grown used to, and ignore unless it gets really bad.
Thanks for your info and suggestions on the calf. I'll update this thread next week!!

Does anyone know any bodyweight-only exercises I can do for my legs? I have a recurring problem with carpal tunnel in my wrists and can't hold any weights right now. I'm a pianist & try to take it easy, but every once in a while I'm asked to play for something (did a Christmas program recently) and it gets bad again. I may do the surgery eventually but trying to avoid that if possible.
Meanwhile, if anyone knows LBWO exercises that don't involve weights I'd really appreciate it. I'm currently doing elevated lunges (back leg elevated) but need some more ideas...thanks!

I had laser hair removal, went 7times, spent almost $600 and I still have unwanted hair. Make sure you find a place that is reputable and knows exactly what they are doing!
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (150 posts) at 09:44 AM
If you think about it, any chemical that is strong enough to dissolve hair, made up of protein-like substances, what is it likely to do to your skin? At the best it will irritate it temporarily, and for those who are sensitive to it, it creates a mess. The very easiest way to deal with either chest or leg hair, and under arm hair for that matter, is to just take the trim portion of an electric shaver, or a set of trimmmers without a guard, and cut it down. Then, shave it in the shower, first with the grain, and next against. Once you get it off, it's easiest to just touch it up every 3 to 7 days. But, say for areas like legs, where it looks kinda silly to be hairless, just let it grow back and that way you have that barbarian and undefined look for your next set of before photos!

Sure, I can share. I am a vegetarian and I eat eggs and cheese. I do not eat fish. I am pretty picky anyway. I've been doing BFL for over a year. It worked for me. Yeah, my diet is pretty boring, except on free day, But there is a saying "nothing tastes as good as thin feels" and it is so true!
I eat veggie burgers and the 'fake' veggie food, bars, cottage cheese, tofu, eggs and lots of veggies. I am probably not getting all the protein BFl recommends, but I just do my best.
good luck to you and your brother.
What's the alternative to eating healthy and working out? I don't want to know again. I've already been there and it wasn't fun.

My advice - I agree with 4achange...Go Grocery shopping before you start! And while you are there...pick up small, portable containers to put meals in. Also, my favorite BFL accessory is my insulated lunchbox. You can pack all your cold food items in there, throw in a frozen ice pack or brick, and you are good to go! It really helps when you are at school, work, in the car, whatever. It only costs a few dollars at Walmart-type store, and they help so much!! HIIT it hard!

Seriously, i have been so unmotivated this week - my brain is burnt out, an dmy body has the flu! But I have my two killer finals - human physiology and advanced nutrition - on Monday a half an hour apart. If i can just survive until then...
Body for Life Forum Message by 4achange (15 posts) at 11:13 PM
You can survive until then...Get lots of rest on Sunday!
I am doing school from home (two kids, and I stay-at-home) so I too know what you are all going through, except I finished my exams early, before starting BFL this week. Just remember, as long as you have been studying all along, you should know most of the material, right? Getting rest before a final is more important than last minute cramming. Don't forget that. I'll be praying for your health and sanity Ashtrash!

Just curious what other fitness/nutrition sites or boards everyone visits. I know I have learned a ton here, BFL and more recently, Oxygen. I picked up a copy of the mag yesterday and was totally inspired! Oh yeah, can't forget about Haussman, he is a genius!
Any others????

I love, love, love Oxygen magazine. It's the first women's fitness magazine I literally read cover to cover. Actually the ONLY magazine I read cover to cover!! :)
It's nice seeing the models who are actually fit and healthy, not just stick thin with no muscle tone.
I also love tracker and the bfl website. I also check in with a small group of bfl mom's on babycenter. We have a little daily support thread there. :)

I'VE COMPLETED MY 12 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!! Maybe I'm a little premature in my enthusiasm because really I still have to make it through clean eating today (no sweat) and exercise tomorrow morning and do my stats/measurements, etc, but this is my last full BFL day of my first official challenge and I am sooooooooooo thrilled with this accomplishment! HOnestly I don't think I could be much happier with the results and the way I'm feeling. BFL is so empowering!!!!
I'll post all my final stats tomorrow. And then I'll be gearing up for challenge 2 :)

...Porter Freeman.
Yesterday while Marc & I were working on plans for the BFL Cruise, he reminded me that Porter was having surgery on his left rotator cuff that same afternoon. Having 3 myself, I called his cell to see how he was feeling today....Can you beleive it...He was actually at work?!? One day after surgery!? He said "Hahaha...Because I was so bad this year. rotator surgery is all I get for Christmas!" <LOL> BUT... he prepared for surgery much like he did for his 1st challenge and said he is doing fine. Of course he gives most of the credit to being in great shape to begin with. He said "I can't imagine how much pain and recovery time there would be if I was still a fat lazy couch potato! But I can't help but think of our friend Julie Whitt and what she has to go through. Jerry, my surgery is like an eyelash compared to her world!!! So I thank God for all he does. But right now I'm going to follow doctor's orders and then get ready for our cruise!!! What great motivation to help get me going. Surely, Julie isn't still making it?"
I told him that I had an email from Julie today saying "...Call me sometime! They tell me I should be able to go on the cruise!..." So it looks like everyone is jumping hurdles and over coming their obstacles with flying colors. MAN...These BFL Champs are tuff!!!
Remember the Reason for the Season!
Merry Christmas Gang!

They are tough, to-the-point and get right down to business! I pray that I see Julie, you and everyone else in June.
Thanks for setting it up.

I'm hoping that Santa brings me some extra money for the cruise. It would be my first one and I would love for it to be a BFL Cruise.
Just so I know, which airport is best to fly into?
Body for Life Forum Message by Jerry Braam (48 posts) at 05:06 PM
KatieFeld-mom,
Everyone will be flying into Orlando.
Our travel agent, Cam, informed me yesterday that there are only 5 inside cabins left. These are the most afforadable cabins. So if price is a factor for you. You can claim these cabins with a small deposit today. Otherwise the only other left are... a few outside cabins. The rest of the ship is completely sold-out!
Larry, Thanks for the email and all the kind words.
Peace,
Jerry

I'll tell you what, that young lady really motivates me (not the way you think!) Yes she is HOT!!!! but I am talking about FOCUS and WANT! Look at what you can do if you really want it! I don't know why but, looking at her website and what she did to get where she is right now motivates the shit out of me!!! I haven't mention this at all on this site but, I have some acting experience on screen and on TV but I gave it up because I didn't feel good about myself , I also let other people bring me down by telling me to give up my pipe dream and get a real job!.
What I have learned from this challenge and from what I am hearing from you guys and gals is; People will bring you down if you start to succeed while they remain stagnate! I stopped my acting career because I listen to my in-laws and other people who didn't have a dream and who were satisfied with status quo. I am not satisfied with status quo and I'm not satisfied with just finishing my first challenge, I want it all! I know that sounds very selfish but I want it all so I can help other people realize there own dreams! It is up to us, not other people; you can make your own dreams happen if you only believe in yourself! This is what you people have made me realize. I am so blessed to have found this site and to have all of you out there motivating each other in a common goal “To be the best person you can be!”

Hey Nelson-
I started my challenge this week, and I already feel better about myself. I don't feel like I'm dieting, actually, I haven't been hungry since starting:)
Plus, lifting weights is empowering. I am proud of myself after each workout when my muscles are shaking and burning...it's a great feeling.
My advice, Make sure you have planned ahead and bought food for the first week, and you should be set.
Take the pics...it was the most embarrassing point in my life...my truly down point, but knowing that it WILL all change in the next 12 weeks makes it worth it. I can hold myself accountable and be proud of the changes! JUST DO IT!
