I always found that I had more successful challenges when I was keeping track of calories at all and just limiting portion size. Counting calories can drive you mad and screw everything up if you are consistent.
Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (25 posts) at 09:58 AM
I have been calorie cycling this past week (unentionally for the most part)
BUT managed to drop a pound and about 1.5" overall.
So, there might be something to this.
I think I'll try (on purpose this time)
to do it this upcoming week and see what happens.
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (67 posts) at 09:51 AM
I would stick to plan for now. I think if you just use the portion ratios that are given for the challenge that you will see major results. Obviously you don't want to start losing muscle but at your size I think that staying with what you are doin for now is probably a good thing. Worry about the calorie ratio later. Just my 2 cents.

I love the Jergen's Natural Glow in medium. Since it develops over several days, you don't get any streaking and it's a really natural color. I have several tubes of it in my bathroom since they tend to sell out.

Should I take Betagen and CLA on my free days?
Body for Life Forum Message by Pan (25 posts) at 03:15 PM
I do, even though i only have a free meal i still find that when i take supplements on the day that i dont train it actually helps me to recuperate easier over my day of rest.

Hi Udenia - I've been reading your thread for 2 days now and in case you haven't noticed, have not responded. I thought I'd somehow come up with just the right thing to say and it seems that is not going to happen.
I remember the Udenia we all know & love from days gone by. That Udenia was full of piss & vinegar and nothing, absolutely NOTHING could stand in her way. While I know you feel quite heart-broken right now, I wonder if that same fire-ball will rise to this occasion just as she has in the past.
I don't know what words to give you to comfort you but I believe the love & devotion you have for your son is simply just what you need to get through this trying time.

Jergen's Natural glow is a really good one, especially for someone with light skin. It's like lotion you put on everyday until you reach a desired color. I use the Medium (I have auburn hair, freckles, and blue eyes but will tan if necessary...LOL) and love it. I have to stock up on several tubes when I find it at our local Walmart since it tends to sell out quickly. I have tried at least 15 different types of self tanners and I can say this one is the best I've tried by far.

So my hubby was lucky enough to snag the LAST iPod today after someone didn't make their layaway payment at WallyWorld. :)
Well, the first issue is after I charged it; I started the software and plugged it in to the USB. DEAD. Not Responding. Kaput. So....we're taking it back.
Will have to upgrade to the 60mg because they are the only one's left around here. Probably because of the price!
So, my question is, what type of armbands do you use to work out with your iPod? I have a kit that has an armband, leather case, and belt clip, but I really don't like the leather case--it's tight and the wheel has a cover on it, so it doesn't respond very well. And I also can't decorate the iPod with some Bling Bling. hehehe
That's another question...Any ladies decorate their iPods? If so, don't I need to get the gummy plastic case on top of the iPod in order to decorate it?
And where do you all buy your music? iTunes? Suggestions would be great.
Thanks Gang,
Danielle

Didn't do my Lbwo on Monday because I had a parent teacher conferance in the morning, then spent the day buying supplies to paint our bedroom. Got home made dinner then put my feet up and didn't get off the couch till bedtime. Good excuse... Um NO... So Tuesday I made up for my LBWO, spent the day out again getting ready for painting and some finishing touch ups on master bath. Wednesday, I painted for 6 hours ceiling, and bedroom walls (looks beautiful by the way) and called that my ubwo? Thursday I got my butt down to the treadmill. Friday, again with many excuses didn't get my lbwo done. Whata crappy week, my eating was clean and all. Time to regroup..... Have I mentioned I hate Aunt Flow? Ah the mind games, the bloat, the want for chocolate......

UUHG! its like hitting a varitable rock bottom every month that you must rely solely on your mind to overcome by KNOWING it is what it is and it will end.. well that is what i have to keep saying to myself! ;)
For me this week it was that coupled with exams, no sleep, and non-stop studying to finish off my week-from-hell. I have not given up though. im still right back in the game and can't wait to finish this week strong and start week 5!!

I used to hate her. Then I got the Depo Provera shot and I was so incredible sick for 3 months that now I am thrilled when I see her!!
I just take some extra-strength Advil or, on really bad days, extra-stength PMS Midol and I wrap myself up in a blanket for the first day. Then, I'm okay because the pain is gone and it's just a matter of waiting it out until the other stuff goes away. :-D

Hey Everybody!
I ran today for the first time in too long! I've been afraid to throw out my back again! Stupid thing!
It felt so great to get my heart rate up and count down those last few seconds on my 10!
It's frustrating because my 10 now is so much less than it was when I was doing it every second day. But, I won't get discouraged.
The great thing is that now I KNOW what to do in order to get/stay in shape so it's just a matter of doing it! No more seeking for what to do or how to do it!
I hope you're all having a great day!!

I just got back from the gym and they don't have childcare on Saturdays...what's up with that?
Anyway, as discouraged and frustrated as I am, I need some suggestions for what I can do at home to still get a great workout in today. I'm determined to not fail...or miss a single WO.
I have a Kathy Smith (I think) Fat Burning tape with two minute intevals...and a Cardio Hip Hop Dance tape...but I'm not sure what is the best for me to do. Any suggestions?
Also, I can't go running outside because I don't have a stroller....I hate when the hubby's away!
Body for Life Forum Message by Framed (50 posts) at 12:30 PM
You can step up on a bench or go up and down a few steps (even if you have a 3 step landing). Do each step for a few minutes and then every 5 minutes, skip a step. It is a lot tougher than it sounds. If you can't do that...do you have a rope? Jumping rope is hell! Do your own triathalon...jump rope (or in place if you don't have a rope) for 5 minutes, then do jumping jacks, steps. If you do walking lunges...you'll be sweating. I have been thinking of making a file of all the exercises I can do in a hotel room or in my bedroom. It is possible to get a fantastic cardio in a small space. you just have to be creative. I think if you do 4 or 5 minute intervals of the 3 exercises suggested here..you will be hitting your 10s. Good luck
Body for Life Forum Message by georgiawendy (241 posts) at 12:34 PM
For today, I would suggest running stairs in your house if you have them, or jumping rope or running in place. If you have a nice neighbor who's willing to help for 20 mins, ask for a child care favor, and go running outside. I'm SURE you could use the break and fresh air.
Also think about used equipment. During my first challenge, I was faced with the same issue, so I starting asking around about used cardio equipment. Turns out my neighbor had an elliptical that had turned into a clothes hanger. They sold it to me for $150!
Body for Life Forum Message by 4achange (18 posts) at 12:37 PM
I do have stairs...don't have a rope or nice neighbors...but I will definately do the triathalon...before I move in march I plan on purchasing some at home equipment...It's amazing how many people have that stuff and never use it...isn't it?
Thanks for the tips...I love the idea of making a file of all the exercises you can do in a small space...
Body for Life Forum Message by Framed (50 posts) at 12:48 PM
I give you a 10+ just for searching for what you CAN do instead of saying, "Oh well, today, due to these circumstances I CAN'T. I am going to pull together all of the weight training and cardio that can be done at home. There have been several moms and folks who can't use a gym for any number of reasons (financial, schedule or location). I did this entire challenge in my house. I am lucky because I have a treadmill and a bike, a bench, a step (the plastic thing with the pieces you put underneath) and free weights. But I have done a number of exercises without any weights or equipment. They are just as difficult and can leave me sweating and feeling the muscles afterward. I'll work on it after this crazy 2 weeks.
Three cheers for you!

Does anybody know of an alternative to shortening?
Connie
Body for Life Forum Message by Firefox Maximus (7 posts) at 09:23 PM
Connie,
Fat is fat but you'll have to decide between the different types, content (saturated, trans, etc.) and what they are used for, especially if heated.
Consider coconut oil:
http://www.spectrumorganics.com/index.php?id=247#j63
Excerpt:
What about Coconut Oil's high saturated fat content?
Spectrum recommends that you limit consumption of saturated fats and make sure those you do consume are of the highest quality. Our bodies need about ten percent of our fat calories from saturates, but we generally don't need to be concerned about incorporating them because the human body is capable of manufacturing saturates when needed. The best saturates are vegetarian based, not animal based; animal saturates contain cholesterol. Think of coconut oil, which has a reputation as a healthy oil in tropical regions, as a good alternative to other highly processed oils like hydrogenated oils and conventional shortenings. These unhealthy fats are processed with metal catalysts at very high heat levels and rapidly generate dangerous trans fats, now considered to be more harmful to the body than saturated fat. Organic Coconut Oil is a good alternative to butter, margarine and shortening for medium heat cooking and baking.
---
Finally, as you know, portion control, and the nutrient content of the entire meal has a lot to do with it, too!
