Would you decrease body fat and gain muscle if you did your BFL workouts (hit 10's most of the time), ate maintenance calories but more fat and sugar than recommended??? I KNOW that what you eat is VERY important but would you gain any muscle from those workouts??? I'm just curious what you think?? Mainly, because I can not get my eating under control and can't imagine that these workouts are giving me any benefit. Thanks!

Body for Life Forum Message by jeremy (1001 posts) at 03:12 PM:
It his hard to know for sure. With sugar it is addicting so if you do not start eating it is much easier to continue to stay off of sugar. Also try to eat fruits with sugar or protein shakes that have strawberries or other things. There are lots of variables at work here... Remember eating every two to three hours is probably the most important concept to remember. This will keep your metabolic rate going

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (75 posts) at 04:04 PM:
The fact is if you keep your same unhealthy diet but start working out and following the BFL workouts you will no doubt gain muscle and in return burn some fat. On that note you should by all means eat healthy with this program because you will enhance your results ten fold. There is no exact ratio known between diet and exercise, some say its 80% diet and I would probably agree that its close. It is good to do anything so working out is good but just suck it up and get mentally focused and try again with the diet thing. It will come, don't give up!

Body for Life Forum Message by jeremy (1001 posts) at 09:12 PM:
Some also say it is 80% exercise. The debate will always continue:)

Body for Life Forum Message by Reagiesmom (271 posts) at 09:52 PM:
If you do a lot of cardio you can eat more low fat carbs....I have found.... beware though, I am not losing weight as fast as a lot of folks around here... but since I am training for a marathon AND my job is very physical I have found I need the extra energy. And I am losing and or maintaining every week. I assume I am also gaining muscle because people make comments all the time. Most importantly.... I would try to keep the FAT down.... if you have a little too much sugar, try to burn it off with extra steady state cardio. Thats whats works for me... :) Kelli

I got some HotRox over the weekend too. Tried that this morning. Doesnt hurt the tummy at all...haven't heard much about this product.

Blemt says it all. great post Blemt! Any thermos are a trial and error-I have tried one brand that literally sent me to the ER after 2 doses and others that were a total waste of $$. Personally I LOVE LOVE LOVE ThermoDynamx. Every once in a while I will get the burning but its usually in my throat or upper-rib area and its when I havent drank enough water when taking it. I know someone who takes her morning dose w/ONE bite/piece of a protein bar in the morning while shes still in bed and it took away that "sick" feeling. That might help.

I've seen HOTROX over the counter.....thought about picking some up, just to see what kind of effect it has. talk to me people. used it, like it, didn't.........why ?

I used to take thermos. If you suffer from any sort of anxiety stay clear of any of these fat burners. I instead take CLA and green tea extract. Seem to do the trick for me

Don't worry Flower, she is still here, just recovering from surgery and the blow given by the child psychologist about my son. Work SUCKS, I hate the people that I have to work with every day, that does not make it any easier, I get thru because I have to tell myself, it is just a paycheck and in the end, it won't matter, just my son and I will matter, so at this point, I am trying to let go of the leadership role and not care about a lot of things, overachieving at work, worrying about what people think of me? etc, etc... that use to drive me at work, I have always been an overachiever and now I am lucky to be able to keep up with my son. for instance, today, he was full of piss and vinegar, ran from one object to another, tossing it, or pulling it down off a table... 100 miles an minute... glad he is asleep, now I can try and cut his hair... no worries, I will be back, just have different priorities at this point, will start a challenge on 18 Dec and I have signed up for that slimdown challenge.... Keep your faith in me, that helps a lot and I appreciate all the support, you guys have always been there for me!

Udenia, I am new here at Body for Life, and have never posted on the board before. However, I felt led to reply to your post. I am the now single mother of a special child. My daughter is 26 months old and was born severely affected by Cystic Fibrosis. Many of the issues I deal with are differant than the ones you will deal with, but many are the same. I thought I would die of the pain when they told me my beautiful baby had CF. However, one day at a time I survived and slowly we built the family we needed to be to help her live the longest, happiest, healthiest life possible. The internet is a wonderful resource. Take advantage of it for information and support. But remember just because it is on the internet doesn't mean it is true. Be a bit skeptical. Find other parents of Autistic children to be supportive of and supported by. I have learned more from the parents of other similarly affected children than everything the multitude of doctors we see every month has taught us all put together. Revel in the love of your child and what a blessing he is in your life, even when it's difficult. Remember, the ILLNESS is difficult, not the child. Beleive in yourself. And mostly, give both of you time. Life goes on, and it gains a certain pattern. It is a lot differant than what you thought it would be, differant than you dreamed. But it is full of it's own special rewards and pleasures. If you want to "talk" email me and I would be happy to listen and to share with you any resources I have discovered in the past 2 years. Hugs and Prayers. Lori PS. Someone mentioned God won't give us more than we can handle, and I know and beleive that... but sometimes I wish He didn't have quite so much faith in ME! :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by Fiona Oceangirl (26 posts) at 02:47 AM:
Hi Udenia, I am sending across the skies all my love and support and hugs.I know from my life the difficulties I faced raising a child as a single parent. I cant even imagine how distraught you must be feeling..He needs you to be strong, and watching him, holding him and kissing him, will give you the strength. Sometimes life does seem so creul and its almost as if the good people are faced with the toughest challenges...For me, My strength seemed to come from a higher source..God!!! He is watching and will help you through this. Your child was chosen for a reason and you were chosen to bear this for a reason...even though we cant understand any of it now, together you and your son will cry, face difficulties, and its not goin to be easy...Draw your strength from people who understand and share your difficulties, dont shoulder it all yourself, if you need to cry, cry, I pray God makes it easier for you and helps you at all times. God bless you and your little angel.

Udenia, I know how you feel. When we were told that my son had MD and that it is fatal in their teens. I feel to the ground and many of the thoughts you are having now.... It kills you deep inside, a part that no one else can understand unless they have been there and felt that type of pain. However, I can tell you with the help of friends you can over come this feeling and gather the strength to go on. I have a close friend whose son also has Autism and is a sinlge father with his son and a daughter. He says he has tuff days and great days. hang in there, I hate to use the term I was so tired of hearing but I am going to use it - God only gives us what he knows we can handle..... Some days I call this saying "b_llsh_t!!!!" we are all here for you! Casey

Yeah, I am saying bullshit a lot lately, lol.... I am a tough one but for once, I don't want it to be tough, can't I get some kind of bliss here? I mean, my kid was a "BRAT" this morning, wouldn't let me put his shirt on, and so the his arms went in to the shirt with a poptart in one hand and a bottle of juice in the other,, and by god, they went in! But why does it have to be so tough? WHY? An easy road would be nice once in awhile, seems I have been smacked with a TOUGH LIFE, PERMANENTLY... and you know, you get tired,,, having negative thoughts about your own life, then you get hit with something else.. ok here, it does not have to pour because it is raining,,

I learned recently that somethign like 1 and 6 children have this type of syndrome. Maybe your experience will help someone else. I hope you are holding up OK. Praying for you. Linne

Most Americans know or were at least taught these things about South Africa: the Boer wars; the instigation of apartheid which essentially helped whites to maintain control of and superiority over blacks; diamond and gold mines; Christian Barnard's heart transplant; beautiful country with nice weather. These are the things most Americans would remember from the textbooks and the newspapers and the old newreels. And you probably have a few misconceptions about America, too. Almost everyone has a cell phone here too. And it's certainly not true that most americans haven't traveled far. It is true, though, that Americans don't travel abroad like they once did. Why? 9/11/01 for one good reason. Just some thoughts.

Body for Life Forum Message by iceskater (233 posts) at 08:45 PM:
The story about the horses and Indians is really funny Crystal...I was born and raised in Oklahoma, too. I was once informed from a Pennsylvania girl that they thought we still rode around in covered wagons! That's really funny. I've lived in a lot of different states and overseas. But even within our 50 states, everything is SO different. Each state seems to have it's own "culture". Like in Oklahoma, most new homes seem to be made from bricks (probably to help withstand the tornadoes). When I lived in California, school was released early because the wind was too strong. That was very strange to me. The wind seemed like it was about the strength of any normal day in Oklahoma, yet, in California, they called it too strong. Now I live in Ohio and the homes seem to be twice as large as the ones in Oklahoma. There have been only a couple of days where the winds here in Ohio could compare to a normal windy day in Oklahoma. The foods seem so different as well. Where I live now, so many people eat kaibasa. I never even heard of that until I came here. And I never had a real Italian pizza from a mom and pop pizzeria until I was living in California. To sum it all up, most Americans have traveled outside their home state. I believe that although most Americans have not traveled "abroad", they should not feel as if they are missing out on something. Each of our 50 states is so unique in climate, people, accents, and food - each state is like visiting a different country. A lot of states are as large or larger than some countries. Just because a person doesn't have a passport doesn't mean that they are missing out or don't measure up to others who have "officially traveled abroad."

I'm Jennifer, and while I live close to the Missouri River, I've never been on one of the boats! I have a bad feeling I'd quickly get addicted to the slot machines! And what do I like to do? Hmmm..haven't thought about that in a long time! But there is one thing I've only done once in my life, and I'd like to do again, and that is snorkeling! The hubby and I did some snorkeling off of a beautiful coral reef the Bahamas a year and a half ago and I desperately want to do it again! But for now, I'd settle for a few days off, with no kids, cuddled up with my hubby for a good movie!

Hi I'm Donna. I've never been to the Missouri/Missippi rivers unfortunately. I have been to the U.S. though, just three of "touristy" destinations. I loved Hawaii, and the best thing was the snorkeling! I totally understand why you want to do it again Lori - I felt like I was in a different world, it was so peaceful. I also loved San Francisco, it's a great city. Went to Yosemite Park for New Year - it was unbelieveably beautiful! And I had blast doing the theme parks in L.A. I'd love to see more of the U.S. someday.

Lori, I just have to ask what you do for a living. I also work 12 hour nights and am named Lori. LOL I am an RN. And you are right, it is entirely too easy to use the long shifts and scheduling difficultys as excuses to put off exercise. Donna, I grew up just outside San Francisco and you are right, it's a great city. I live in Texas now, but try to make it to the ocean somewhere at least once a year. I have to admit, though. I do get more time to browse on the computer working nights than I would on day shift. That is a fringe benefit of the lousy hours. :-) Lori

Body for Life Forum Message by snowboardingfairy (101 posts) at 05:57 PM:
your hair is just like my sisters, and I have always been envious of how she can wash and wear. My only suggestion to you would be to keep growing it longer. I know when she cut it shorter it was much harder to deal with. As curly as it is, straightening it would take some work, probably one of those "every once in a while looks". If you're looking for a change, cause we all need one at times to keep us excited about ourselves, maybe add some low lights in a pretty copper or auburn for the winter. A little color can really add a nice change and it doesn't have to be a permanent one. Any profesional hair colorists should give you a free consultation and discuss what colors would work with your skin tone and eye color. Just a suggestion, it's already pretty in my opinion, but I like to change mine every so often as well :)

My hair isn't naturally curly, but heavy and wavy. I use the straightening iron too when I want a change. I agree that you should keep growing it long, as there is so much more to do with it. If you are still unsatisfied, try going to a really good beautician, make an appointment just to get some ideas from them. I also search through hairstyle magazines in stores, and end up buying a few that have styles that I like. When choosing a new style, just make sure what you like goes with your shape of face and structure. I am WAY overdue for a change, just haven't had the chance to. You can also find some good ideas on-line just be searching for hairstyles. Good Luck! Jennifer

THESE DAYS I think I have more hair growing out of my ears, nose and eyebrows than on my head--so any head of hair is a miraculous thing for me! So, I like your hair. If you ever get tired of it and want to sell it, I'll buy it from you.

We decided not to show it to our kids because there was some bad language. We homeschool and RARELY go out to eat at all so we just told them about it. Just thought I'd let all the Mom's and Dad's with kids 10 and under know this. They showed it at the public school in our area and just selected the appropriate scenes. There is a scene where the vegan girlfriend talks about sexual positions and their sex life that is totally inappropriate for children. It was a really good film! As far as choosing healthier when you're at one of these places, that option was ruined for me when he pulled that nasty nappy hair out of the parfait (I almost threw up! I cannot handle stuff like that). Also, don't forget, that lovely incident with a woman finding a fingertip in her Wendy's chili. BLECH! When we drive by Wendy's my kids say, is that the place where they put finger's in your food? lol

So I went all out on my free day Saturday. It was my first free day since I started the program. Now I can't get back on the program. Yesterday I was fine except for the fact that I had three servings of my low fat gumbo for dinner and today I ate 7 cookies!!!! I am going to start over and skip my free day this Saturday but does anyone have some advice?

I just read where people take free meals. That sounds like a plan. I am afraid that I will actually gain weight back on a whole free day. I can put away some serious amounts of food in one day and I was too full yesterday morning to even think about eating breakfast.

Body for Life Forum Message by SportyGirl (62 posts) at 11:44 AM:
Don't worry, it's just a temporary setback - you can get past this!! Just step away from the cookies :-) Free day has always been a problem for me when BFL'ing. I would consistently fall off the wagon after a free day. When I did have great success years ago it was when I was eliminating sugar and processed foods to help with the treatment of a condition so there was no such thing as a free day for me. Lots of people here talk about having a free meal rather than a free day which I'm trying this time around and it seems to work much better for me.

Thread: I know this has been beaten to death.... (130 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Forest Tech (84 posts) at 04:11 PM: I know this has been beaten to death....
But i really am lost right now.. I read an article about how CRUCIAL cyclic eating is with losing weight.. and I know calorie cycling is kind of "built in" to BFL with portion control and food diversity, not calorie counting. And i know that you need a calorie deficiency in order to lose fat... but right now I have been eating about 500 cal less than my calculated BMR times 1.55 or whatever.. but I have no energy. I am losing a bit of fat, yes.. but could I be getting even faster results if I screwed this "500 cal. less a day" thing and did alternating days 500cal over and under BMRx1.55? I mean would the metabolism increase make up for not having that flat out calorie deficit? I am just sick of feeling tired and weak all the time. I struggle at the gym doing what I seemed to do easier like 3 weeks ago.

The main thing that got me on this was when i read on hussmanfitness.org about losing fat. He seems all for the fewer cals the better adn you will lose more fat.. but that theory is conflicting with trying to kickstart my metabolism..

I would just do the BFL portion thing... but somehow it seems like i would over estimate more times than not..

Has anyone found this with your eating and what worked for you?

God I wish i could get this "eat less is better" mentality OUT OF MY HEAD!! I logically know better.. but it's just stuck there!!

Thanks in advance for any help.. this has been bugging me all freaking day!

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (75 posts) at 04:31 PM:
I try to stick with the portions. Calorie counting screwed me up in past challenges. Chances are if you are feeling week then you are either not getting enough sleep or you may not be eating enough. Try eating a little more but spread it out over all six meals. Just my .02

Body for Life Forum Message by Wrecky (131 posts) at 05:50 PM:

I usually rest 45 seconds between reps and 2 mins between sets. By the time you write down your last rep and switch weights the time will go pretty fast. You need to give your muscles time to get rid of the latic acid. My understanding being if you do not rest enough between the reps the LA will actually inhibit muscle growth

Body for Life Forum Message by iceskater (233 posts) at 05:12 PM:
Here's my humble opinion, I think it is normal not to get your heart rate as high when doing upper body as when you are doing lower body. The muscle groups in your lower body are larger and require more blood flow to those areas and that is why it is easier to get winded when doing lower body. That's the way it seems to work for me anyway. Hope this helps.

Have you tried Hip up? Lay on your back, on a mat with your palms touching the mat. Lift up your legs and your hips then slowly lower both legs and your hips together. Dont lower your legs all the way to the floor. I promise, youll feel it!

OMG......I do anything and everything....that is the most difficult area to tone, trust me, I know. My most favorite, recent addition is the beloved 6-inches. lie on the floor near a heavy piece of furniture, hold the underside of the furniture and lift your feet 6 inches off the floor......I like to 6" to 20" and back to 6". I do the BFL succession of 12, 10, 8, 6, 12 & 12......it's a killer, but, I know it's working.

You can try hanging leg lifts hanging from the pully machine. The one at my club has two differnt types of grips at the top. I need a little lift to get up there. I tried to do hanging leg lifts last week and I couldn't even hang, too tough on my shoulders!! I use plates behind my head for abs, I start with 2.5lbs and go up to 10lbs and just do regular crunches. I have gotten my abs flatter than I ever thought possible just by doing this exercise. I think the key is to keep them very tight and pull through your groin. The more you do ab work, the more control you will have over them, but it takes time.

Hey everyone. I wanted to write a response to this thread... i have been someone who regulary vists this forum and read responses, but wanted today to actually respond to this thread.. i hope you dont mind me jumping on this board. Im writing to you from Sydney Australia. anyway.. just thought i would write and to clarify why sometimes it seems like Aaron is getting lots of votes.. he has worked very hard to get his profile up by means of appearing on a TV morning show, and is also organising a fundraiser where the money goes to the make a wish foundation of which im a volunteer. He does indeed have all of the EAS CO NZ members support him and many of them have approached gyms, medical centres, and fitness clothing stores with posters asking for people to view the BFL site and to read aarons story and to vote if they believe in his story. Also... our night is your day.. i would say that when you guys wake up you would've seen a full day of AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND voting furiously to keep Aarons percentages up... likewise when we wake up, we see a huge change in the votes as well. Also, i can see that as a nation, you have 5 champions to vote from. As a country, your votes are split between these five, where as in Aarons case you have two full countries, Australia and New zealand pooling thier votes collectively for one person. I have met Aaron, and he is truely a very geniune person and one who i know will represent BFL well. In saying that.. just because I am Australian doesnt mean that i vote soley for Aaron..i read all the stories and in the lead up to the bootcamp placed votes for cheryl and also russell.. in fact i voted today for russell... i think his reasons for doing BFL are the most unselfish of anyones, and i know that he would passionatly defend this programme with his dying breath. Let me say this, as a BFL champion and also as a friend of Porters... EAS will have the final say, and it wont rely soley on votes.. i believe that every single person who does BFL is a champ, and they have an extremly difficult task in front of them to pick only one winner... EAS will pick the one person who they believe will best epitiome all that BFL is about... its a hard one, and i sure wish i had a crystal ball... who will know the results. Personally, i would love to see whoever wins be the one person who will travel the world, inspiring people to change, the one person who will motivate the world, and the one person who will reach down and pull every one person who is struggling with self esteem and health issues to stand on the stage with them, and to show them the way. To be the true spirit of Body for life. Whoever that person is, I cant wait to meet them. i wish though that Aaron had been invited to participate at the media bootcamp... there was much confusion there, and in the end i believe it was decided that Aaron should stay here to do his own publicity drive. i believe that he has some friends who have approached various PR firms to help him achieve this. I know for a fact that Aaron himself has not gone out to pay anyone to promote him.. He does however have a lot of good people on his team who would like to show their support of him and are helping to spread the BFL word here in Australia. I support this as for too long many Australians have been totally unaware of this fantastic programme. i know that he wanted so badly to meet the other finalists and also to meet many of the public in New York. lets hope that with godspeed he will be able to go to the expo and rightfully take his place as a BFL AMBASSADOR and maybe future champion. I hope and pray that if Aaron does make it to the expo, that you will welcome him with open arms, he really is a honest guy and full of admiration for Bill Phillips, Porter Freeman and the people of BFL who inspired the change in him. cheers and best of health Debbie Rossi Australian GMC EAS 2002

Body for Life Forum Message by SportyGirl (62 posts) at 04:12 PM:
Thanks Debbie. Can I say first that I came across your before and after photos about a year ago on the NZ website - wow! Your transformation is amazing!! Thanks for setting the record straight re: the PR firm. I don't have a problem whether Aaron has PR advisors or not - but I was keen to understand what was fact and what was rumour. And while there certainly seems to be a real buzz surrounding Aaron in Australia, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of his votes have nothing to do with geography - after all he's made an amazing transformation, came across in his TV interview as a really great guy, and is smokin' hot!!! :-)

Body for Life Forum Message by debbierossi (2 posts) at 04:24 PM:
hmm.. i was going to say something about him being rather cute. the first thing i noticed upon meeting Aaron is his piercing blue eyes. I have always maintained that the eyes of a person is a window to their soul, and upon looking into Aaron's blue eyes, i see and feel nothing but compassion for this programme that has brought about an amazing life transfomation for him. When i met him, we talked not about his physical transformation which is indeed amazing, but his spiritual journey which is just a whole other chapter. He has certaintly faced very big challenges in his life, which many are not aware of. I know that given a chance he will and is willing to share his story. Another thing i'll love to point out to true BFL'ers is this. Not ONE OF US, intended to wake up one day overweight. No one in their right mind would think that when they hit 30 they would be divorced, suffer low self esteem, suffer from an eating disorder or find themselves waiting for a pair of lungs to breathe with. EVERYONE who has found Body for life has done so because they NEEDED IT. They had come to a point in their lives, where they had in their own circumstances hit rock bottom and by putting faith in this programme, which teaches us to be faithful to ourselves found a way out of the "rut" as porter puts it, and onto a path where they can appreciate life, understand what it is like to live life, and to share life. The law of reciprociation which bill teaches us is the TRUE PRIZE. I know in my heart that who ever wins, will be a person who will inspire all they meet, whether it is Nicole, Cheryl, Russell, Brian, Aaron or Michael. I wish them all godspeed and best of health. cheers debsx

Hi Daisy, I just checked out your profile. You know, I don't think you need to look for weight loss as much as you need to be gaining some muscle. When you are eating through out the day, just make sure to be giving your body all it needs and you won't be so quick to "blow it." For you, it's not as much about losing a lot of weight but about feeling better. So, look at this weekend as a reminder of how crappy you feel when you eat like a sugar pig and let that push you forward. You're going to be fine! Keep going! Feed those baby muscles. :) Also - I can't remember whose profile it is but have you seen the picture of an exact replica of 5 lbs. of fat next to 5 lbs. of muscle? That visual really, REALLY helped me with my eating.

Funny thing is that the other day I talked with a nurse at my medical insurance company and she applauded my comeback reminding me that every other patient she has talked to with pituitary failure has been pretty much consigned to sitting on the couch...settling for just getting by day-to-day and not even having a hope to lose all the weight they have gained... Hey Kerry... Winter to me means having to wear longer shorts! Actually, I feel very lucky to live in San Diego. The temperature range is about 35-70 degrees with rain showers here and there. So it is cooler in the winter but still mild enough to allow me to ride my bike outdoors. Usually we get snow up in the mountains. It's nice to drive up and play in the snow and then leave it behind and go home. I grew up in North Texas and had plenty of 'fun' driving in snow and ice - no thanks! Jim

Ever since Muscle Media went out of business, I am hesitant as to reading another fitness magazine. Especially ones geared toward men. I've looked at a few, and they either seem to go from being aimed at the "Be as big as you can be" to "How to dress for success and drive your woman crazy, and oh yeah, here's a fitness article so we can label ourselves as a fitness magazine." That's what I liked about MM, it was geared towards overall fitness, and not trying to be some gigantic hulk. Any suggestions?

I realize that push ups are hard. I was going to do them on my toes, but by the 8 set I had to go on my knees. Felt like a better work out than the dumbbell presses that I was doing. When I got my youngest cat I used to put him on my shoulders. Anytime that I bend down, he likes to jump on my back. lol He did that this morning during ubwo. I was doing my push ups and he jumped up on my back. Which I figure added and extra 13lbs ;) Urs

How about "how many little boys?" My 18-month old hops on my stomach whenever I get down on the floor to do crunches, or any exercise for that matter. I think of him as an automatically adjusting resistance machine. My cat is too busy napping to participate.

Body for Life Forum Message by SportyGirl (62 posts) at 04:53 PM:
My cats are too busy napping too, but the dog seems determined to come over and try to lick my face, get in the way, or lie on me whenever I try to do any exercise on the floor. He's a 32kg labrador so adds a bit of weight too :-) And nah, I'm not strong enough to use him for extra weight on push-ups. But maybe that's something to aim for...

Body for Life Forum Message by JesseCuster40 (72 posts) at 07:50 PM:
The cat's just helping you out. That's why they're better than dogs. See, a dog watching would just say, "I love you. What are you doing?" The cat doesn't need to ask. I like it when cats walk on my back. It's like a kitty massage. Of course it's always better when they keep the claws in.

I had 3 eating events this weekend. The Ballet with intermission, catered by a French Pastry Shop!!! A Christmas Party catered by my favorite restaurant and a pot luck dinner for my church anniversary celebration. I used one as my free day.(The Christmas Party) Ate before I went to the ballet and took an EFL recipe to the pot luck. I missed my workout on Saturday, but still managed to loose .5lb and had a great workout this morning. If I can get through the holidays without gaining and working out 5 of 7 days a week. I will call this last 3 weeks of my challenge a success. 8 more eating events in the next 2 weeks. I had hoped to get more results the last 4 weeks of my challenge but will settle for maintaining what I have already accomplished and my first holiday season in 20 years without gaining weight. I had a rough weekend too (PMS and Social life), but I'm proud of how I handled it. I planned ahead and stayed pretty close to the straight and narrow. I didn't drink (how that happened I don't know), I only had a bite of cheesecake at Friday night's dinner, but I did break down and have a Twix bar when I thought that I couldn't get any bitchier with my husband (he didn't bother asking, just went out and got it for me!) But it's a new day, a new week and I got goals, damn it! Laurie

Body for Life Forum Message by Megan'sMom (206 posts) at 12:18 PM: Sub- 160 before New Years!
That's my goal for this month and I'm sad to say that I didn't get any closer this week. It's that TOM and I'm blaming that and moving forward. I've still got time and it's only 3 1/2 pounds left that we're talking about it.

I'm amazed that I wasn't more disappointed when I got on the scale this morning.

Last week ya'll saw me posting what I did everyday and that seems to help. I was busy this weekend and didn't get on and rather than subject to you all to everything from Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - here are the highlights:

Friday - Cardio HIIT, Only ate 4 meals (trying to save up some calories for dinner) dinner party (one helping - Prime Rib, Cheese Potatoes, Stuffing, Crab Salad,  a single bite of cheesecake, and nothing but water to drink for me!)

Saturday - PMS raised it's ugly head and I had a Twix bar from Meal #4, but was EFL for the rest of the day - awesome UBWO - I got 6 seated bicep curls at 25 lbs!!!

Sunday - Survivour Party - Chili w/ Sour Cream, Cheese, Salad w/ Ranch Dressing and 3/4 C. Ice Cream - Pilates class.

I didn't take an actual free day last week b/c I knew I had some events where I was going to eat unauthorized so I feel pretty good how I did and know that this week I can do better.

I am having a terrible time.  I even workout during my free day up until last week.  I have been a whole week with no exercise.  I know if I just get there once then I'll be hooked again, I just can't get my butt there.  I have been blaming it on my work schedule but now I am at work in a control center at least I could do some lunges.  I guess I will do that.

Is anyone else having a hard time?  According to alot of blogs the answer is a big fat YES.

Plus, I thought I would post, I have had several PM's about me being quiet....can't have that.

I'm sort of in a maintenance mode, even though I'm still kicking butt on my workouts I seem to be having a problem with jumping cookies!!! Everytime I look at a cookie, it jumps in my mouth, there is no way for me to stop it!! I wanted to give out homemade cookies to friends this year and they never stick around long enough to make it in the bag. I'm eating clean most of the time and I haven't noticed any negative affects of this cookie binge, but I know what you mean about not feeling motivated. It makes a lot of sense (in my head anyway) to just say to yourself "it's the holidays, can't I just have some fun and enjoy myself and I promise to be good after the food orgy is over with" but, the truth is, think of how awful you will feel after Christmas. That's what I keep thinking of, how I don't want to start next year feeling like crap about myself. So, I say get to the gym, work really hard and then when you give in to temptation hopefully you won't feel so guilty.

Yup, thats me for sure. I am however still keeping up with the workouts even trying to do more cardio just because my eating sucks so bad. I'm coming up to a year and I have never ever been even close to this bad with the eating. I'm hoping for a "magic" day when it all clicks in again - its long overdue. Hi guys! I think I may have figured out what has been going on with my body the last couple of months... With a rare disorder like pituitary failure, I've learned over the years that I just can't always depend on doctors to figure things out... I'm getting so used to self-diagnosing that I might have to add M. D. to my name. That stands for "Medical Detective"! But time and again when my doctors can't explain why I'm having so much trouble with illness, I eventually figure it out and make the adjustments necessary to my numerous medications to get back on track physically... In the latest "episode" of my reality series (Can you say survivor!) I determined that my constant issues with sinus infections, colds, flu-like symptoms, nausea and fatigue were due mostly to hormonal imbalances. Certainly, there has been a lot of stuff going around but after a couple months of being sick I suspected that my underlying illness was complicating things. I made some changes to my hormone dosages several days ago and have been feeling better than I have in weeks... Here's what I concluded were the reasons I've had such a rough time during my just-completed fourth challenge: 1. My testosterone dosage was too high. You would think that more is better but I spent most of 2004 on the couch because the dosage was so high that it acted like a poison... Apparently, the dosage that was OK when I was 100lbs. heavier was too much. I lowered the dosage several days ago, and the nausea has finally gone away after more than 2 months... 2. The interruption in my daily growth-hormone shots caused a severe hit in my energy, even though I was told that it shouldn't affect me much. 3. The emotional stress caused by the end of my 17-yr. friendships with my closest friends along with the sinus infections made it almost impossible to stay on top of my cortisol medication. Normally the body secretes high levels of cortisol to deal with the physical effects of stress and infection. With pituitary failure, my body doesn't do that, so I have to try to mimic it by taking extra medication. But it's a real juggling act to figure how much to take and when. Too little and my body goes into a tailspin. But too much and it will cause rapid weight gain, cravings for sweets, and severe sleep difficulties... Anyway, I feel that I've made the right adjustments and I'm finally on my way back... I'm very excited and my confidence is back! I had a GREAT upper-body workout this afternoon and I'll be back on my bike tomorrow! Thanks for being there gang... Jim
