Have you tried this yet? I read the entire article and I'm going to try this for next challenge instead of the treadmill routine i've been doing. Thanks!
Body for Life Forum Message by healthyme (49 posts) at 10:00 AM
In essence it's extremely similar to BFL HIIT. More proof that interval training is superior to low intensity steady state!

Thanks for the info on the Max-OT cardio. I will be trying it out for tomorrows cardio! Kana

does it have to be on the bike? I just don't have access to things like that and I only have a treadmill, jump rope, mini trampoline. Sounds interesting though, I need to find some sort of cardio that I can actually like so I will stick with it!
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (133 posts) at 12:02 PM
Thanks Chuck, it sounds like a nice switch from the BFL HIIT. I will try it next week!

while my youngest daughter and I were out Christmast shopping this morning, my oldest daughter calls me to tell me that her dad called home from work to tell her that he would like some exercise equipment for Christmas! I was getting worried there for a while, I have been trying to encourage him, without pushing him, and I wanted the decision to be all his. I am so excited! I don't think he will be much on the tracker, but I will keep you posted.

Thats awesome, I have always wanted a home gym. I recently purchased a recumbent bike and it's very convenient especially for morning cardio. I was wondering if anyone has any input on the newest bowflex revolution? It looks awesome.
Body for Life Forum Message by jansen (128 posts) at 01:13 PM
ocpanther- how do you like the bike? I would be interested in some input on the difference between the upright and the recumbent
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (133 posts) at 01:28 PM
I personally like recumbent bikes. I feel more comfortable and can focus more on intensity. It is one of the best purchases that I have made. It makes life easier when you have a piece or cardio equipment at home. I have considered getting a home gym but I am torn because I really like going to the gym. Well I hope that you get what you want and any kind of equipment will benefit you. Thanks and have a great day!
Body for Life Forum Message by mucca500 (78 posts) at 02:46 PM
i just purchased a recumbent bike as well, but for injury reasons. i fractured my foot and the doc said its the best for foot injuries. and so far i love it. and i dont feel like im going to fall off of it even after hitting a 10! i reccomend it over a upright bike.
Body for Life Forum Message by kana (337 posts) at 03:17 PM
I, too, have a recumbent bike. I bought mine at Sears- it's a Pro-Form crosstrainer 970. I love it, and it's more comfortable than the upright bikes. Make sure you test yours out before you purchase. My highest level (intensity) on the bike is a 10, and I am at the point that it is not as challenging as it was when I first bought it. I still work out on it, though.
Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2016 posts) at 05:06 PM
Okay, this might be a dumb question, but is a recumbent bike different from the stationary bikes. If so how? I keep seeing "recumbent bike" and have always wondered about this. If its different, yikes, talk about being out of the loop huh?

Flower, a recumbent bike is one where you are reclining almost. You push your feet out infront of you. You are not sitting up right like on a regular bike.
Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (166 posts) at 08:44 PM
A recumbent bike might be MORE of a NECESSITY for some of us guys than for the ladies. With all the upper body weight suspended over a narrow bike saddle, many guys experience some nerve impingement that causes some problems with the plumbing, and in the immortal words of Forest Gump, "That's all I'm going to say about that!" The recumbent bike spreads the weight out and is much more forgiving. Though I feel like a wimp riding a recumbent bike, I value my ability to pee and do other things more than I do my gym image. "And that's all I'm going to say about that!"

Just curious, whats your favorite of each and why? also which do you prefer and why?
I personally love meal replacements because they give you alot of nutrition and all you have to do is mix water or milk and bam theres one of your meals. I like Metrex (kind of a cake batter taste) I also like myoplex (original and lite). As for protein powders, I still haven't found one that I like. Tried alot and most of them don't mix well and leave a gritty consistecy behind. Thanks for all of the responses!

I like GNC's vanilla 100% whey. I use it in all my recipes for shakes and smoothies.
I use EAS chocolate that I bought at Wal-Mart. Love it for Choc, peanut butter, oatmeal in the am.

Body for Life Forum Message by rbsamy (312 posts) at 02:01 PM
I cook the oatmeal, add scoop of choc protein powder and little peanut butter.... taste excellent. However, for some reason the first time i tried it I hated it and couldn't even finish it.. go figure.

i have isoflex chocolate now.. and the only other kind i tried was GNC wheycool. Both are okay in my opinion. the Isoflex mixes well. the vanilla one is better than the chocolate though. Never had myoplex or any real meal replacements to speak of.

I go to military based gyms (husband is active duty so its FREE) and the AFB in our hometown is absolutely awesome!! I walked in the first time and was like "are you serious?" Cant wait to go home for christmas so we can use the cool gym stuff:)

I have been very quiet when it comes to the drama at tracker, I CHOOSE not to involve myself in topics I find offensive, or not related to fitness, since this IS a fitness related board. With that said, I was one of the folks who really thought an OT board was great awhile back, when maybe we wanted to share something that may not have been fitness related, like Udenias updates on Cameron, and some others that come to mind, I have to say I now regret supporting this board. I have to agree with Moggies post on the tracker rules of conduct. Also, keep in mind that when someone logs in to tracker, the top threads are listed, but not the boards they are located in, and quite frankly some titles are not clear, and can be misleading. We are all different and have different levels of tolerance, but respect should be prevelant, period.

I know what you mean about the recent topics popping up as soon as you log on. For some reason or other, I never pay attention to that just immediately go to "discussion". Anyone else?

Well like NCmomof3 I live in NC. We aren't all rednecks and we don't all farm tobacco. That being said we do have a number of incredibly strong universities and arguably the best journalism program in the United States as UNC-Chapel Hill. You have probably two of the best college basketball teams 8 miles from each other (Dook and Carolina...sorry couldn't resist) and the best women's soccer program ever...I mean Mia Hamm went here!! We also have an area called Research Triangle Park which houses a lot of R&D for companies like Cisco, Nortel, IBM and GE. Those companies are huge in this area. We are the current home of the Carolina Hurricans, Panthers and Bobcats and the world famous Durham Bulls. We put cole slaw and chili on the burges and use vinegar and shredded pork for the BBQ. The north DEFINITELY meets the south here and you see it on the roads...quick driving people from up North to slow as hell people from the South. I'm originally from Texas but came here in 1995. I love the area and highly recommend it to everyone for a visit.

I was born and raised and lived in Columbus, OH for 35 years.....I now live about 30 miles south.
Contrary to popular belief, Columbus is not a cow-town. It is a bustling metropolis of about 1 million people. It is the home of the Columbus Blue Jackets NHL team and the National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes. It is also home to Les Wexner who is the guy who started The Limited, Express, Bath and Body Works, Victoria's Secret, etc.
Columbus is also the Fast Food Capital of the US....maybe thats why it is high on the fattest city list.
The winters are cold, but not necessarily overly snowy...just grey. The summers are hot as hell and very humid....90 degrees with 90% humidity sucks!!!
I love Columbus in general, but wish I lived somewhere closer to water and Mountains so I could ski. I would love to live in Lake Tahoe or Seattle.
Oh and one more thing....if you are from here, you call it "KLUMUS" not "COLUMBUS"

Well I have a busy month ahead of me...
Tripler Army Hospital have several means to assist troubled or special children, and one is with a group study, this is where there are about 6 children that are in one group, they are put thru several tests (they don't know it) they think they are playing, etc.. while the social workers, work with the parents.... and this goes on for three weeks, then the formal diagnosis. In addition, I have the local elementary school, sending their team of experts in social skills, IQ, cognitive thinking and speech therapist to the CDC that my son attends and observe him there. They might even come to my home... anyway at the end of January I have a meeting with their team to discuss their findings and submit me for state assistance and/or have Cameron go to a special school. They will pick him up and take him back to CDC everyday.. At this school he will get one on one with a speech therapist, etc... I am hoping that he is eligible, I want the best for my son.
NOTE: My son is sick right now, coughing alot, has circles around his eyes... didn't eat too much tonight, but I am not going to worry just yet... so I gave him a suppository to help keep his fever down, and hopefully with a good nights rest, he will feel better, poor little guy..
Lets all cross our fingers and send lots of prayers...

Okay, this is one of the rare and probably only times that I will start a thread in the OT area (and no I didn't check my binoculars or whatever to see where I posted and what I said so to all those that might prove me wrong whatever). Anyways I want to know what the hell is with some of the posters on this site. First of all I thought that this site was a support site for people into fitness and BFL. The truth is I rarely check the OT thread but just did and WTF. I have a life and a lot of things in the real world (not this cyber make believe one) to keep me busy. I make my on schedule for work so I post on here a lot to offer support, advice and to learn but I see no reason to get onto a fitness website and discuss politics or sex. I don't know any of you but I do apperciate all of those that post meaningful topics and those that offer solid advice concerning this lifestyle. Maybe people are on here to make friends but I would have to hope thats not the case. I have a lot of friends and family members so my purpose of this site is strictly educational and supportive. As I said earlier I value all of the real people on here that are attemping to make a great transformation or help others do so but whats with this secret fictional life that some of those are creating. Go to the gym or join a local club to make friends or hell even start a local BFL support group. This is a webpage and most of us will never be friends. If you want to talk about non fitness related topics then call one of your friends or family members. I just read a post regarding the top 20, I didn't even know what the hell the top 20 was and personally I don't care and wouldn't even realize if I ever made it. I look at others profile for inspiration and read these posts for motivation and education not to decide what person (cyberbuddy) is more popular or better than another. I hope that the majority of the people that come to this site grasp the importance of it and see that it can be a very powerfull tool to use to better yourself. If people are leaving this site because of the content then obviously we (meaning everyone on here) are not making this place what it should be. And for those that are getting upset because someone left, get real, this is a webpage! My reason behind posting this is hopefully to get people to see why we come to this site (or at least the majority of us) and thats to seek inpirtation, motivation and education. I hope that nobody gets mad or upset over this because then you will prove that you take this internet thing way to serious and maybe you should join a real life group, find some real friends and quit being an armchair warrior. I would like to thank all of the people that keep this site real and those that post thoughtful and helpfull topics. I am having a much easier time with this lifestyle since utilizing this tool (tracker). And I hope that many more people (all ages) will as well. Thanks and everyone enjoy your real lives this holiday season.
Marcus Aurelius had a dream and that dream was tracker (oh wait is was really Rome:))

People will leave this forum for many reasons and I would rather they leave because they can't talk about risque things instead of not getting the support and help for which this site is truly made for. It amuses me how seriously people take their cyberlives. I belong to many forums, on many different topics, and I see the same thing on all of them. Cliques, people that don't fit into the 'cliques', board suicide, begging for people to come back, and then usually a mass exodus of other regulars leaving because one of their own left on bad terms.
The way that I use a forum is that if there is a topic that I don't like, I don't read it. If there is a debate I can hold my own without being rude - I know that anytime I can leave,on my own terms. Last but not least, I know that I am always RIGHT! It makes being a part of a forum so much easier....

Good point Pers! I've pretty much stayed away from posting on these threads, but have read every one of them. Ocupant- you make some very good points, but I also agree with Havlov, that you can make some very good friends through this site as well. That to me, is just an added bonus! This does not demean my friends in my everyday life, but just expands my acquantances and friends to a whole new level. I know for me, my every day friends cannot relate to many of the things that I go through with every day BFL life. Tracker gives me a connection to other people that can relate, and I do find that important, as it keeps me going! I may never get the chance to meet some of the friends that I've made here, but that's not to say you can't make friends. I will get the chance to meet some of them though, and that will make it even better! Having OT threads do not bother me, and like many others, I simply do not read the ones that have titles that I know I don't want to read for whatever reason. If I happen to open up tracker during my lunch hour at work, and one of the managers just happens to walk by, I could easily get fired just by some of the titles that appear on the home page. I do believe in having a line, but also realize people want to have fun, poke, play, whatever, as long as they are in good taste. The way things have been lately, I cannot let my daughter look at the boards with me like she used to. My daughter is 10, and has been eating EFL with us for quite a while, and is curious about the progress and successes people on here have made, but I simply cannot allow her to partake in it with me lately, and I think that's a shame. We all have our own opinions, stories, heartaches, struggles and advise to give...as long as we all respect those differences we should have no real issues.

Pers all of us should be in this lifestyle for life but we should use this webpage as a tool to make it happen. And Jennifer I agree that you can make aquantances on this site but recently the conversations have really been kind of pathetic. You made a good point in that some people on here with be able to understand some of your challenges with "this lifestyle" so you turn to them, but if you need to talk about sex, politics, or religion turn to the people that know you. I respect everyone's differences but I also think that this site has a real purpose and that that purpose is not being accessable to the masses (ei. children) because of all of the subject matter. I am not a prude and actually have a pretty good sense of humor but the threads on here keep focus off of the sites true meaning and that is to offer support and education to those that need it. Thanks for posting!

There's been a lot of digs at the "magnifying glass" references I've made recently--but I still think there is no better way of knowing exactly why a person is here. I don't want to play silly games. I want to live to see my grandchildren--hell, I want to see my toes. I've never had the chance to wear a dress in size single digits or dance with the "prom king." I've been told I'm fat and useless all my life. I'm going to change that--oh yes I am. In the mean time, while I'm getting fit, I want to be able to choose my friends--and the magnifying glass (and my blends) are a big help. I'm making choices--for the first time in my life. Sex--and the cheap references--are easy. Integrity and dignity are harder to find. I'm looking for long term support, long term friends (the kind of good folk who actually take the time to help others!). And experience has proven to me that the best way to receive support is to provide it.
That's why I STAY at tracker.
Love,
Persephone

Well said, Persephone. It takes focus to stay true to BFL... I believe this site is a great way to stay focused... if we keep on task. It's much bigger than just eating right and working out... your post shows how truly bad you/I/we want to be healthy... and I, for one, want to be a source of help to those who log on here.

I was a diet soda junkie, drank 12 a day. But it is true that all the sodium can bloat you and hinder your efforts. Also keep in mind that diet soda can cause tooth decay and let to carries (cavities) and is just as bad for your pearly whites as regular soda. I work for a dental manufacturer and thats how I know this.

I think a free meal is important for some. I personally enjoy my free day but going overboard can set you back. I will have a cheat meal and maybe a cheat snack during my day and limit the calories in my other meals. This keeps the daily calories pretty consistent. You could also throw in some light cardio to burn some of the calories. Remember this is all mental and whether you lose control or not is up to you. If you feel the urge to go nuts then drink a ton of water or eat something good. Peanut Butter is my crutch!

BFL'er,
I plan my next week meals on my FREE DAY and then I do my shopping on my FREE DAY. I find by doing this I am really motivated to give it another 6 day. Planning what you are going to eat and then following your plan. Is the most effective way to work the Body For Life Challenge. That is what I have discovered but, I am only starting week three. I hope this helps,
Body for Life Forum Message by DreamCatcher (613 posts) at 02:36 PM
I've also resorted to taking a free meal, rather than an entire day. I have found if I "go all out" I end up overeating, and have problems getting back on track for the next few days. I will allow myself just one true free day a month. The other three for the month are just a free meal. I think this should be your choice, and if you can have a better handle on things by just allowing yourself a free meal, then go for it! I don't think everyone can handle an entire free day, then get right back on track the following day. We are all different, so if you need to experiment with it to find what works best for you, go for it! Don't worry, you'll get it back! Hang in there!

I have also gone to a free meal a couple days a week, instead of the binge day (that's what it ended up being for me). When I was doing the whole free day thing, I felt awful the next day, and actually had a food hangover. It wasn't worth it for me. Now, I may or may not take a free meal. And, usually, it's not an entire meal. It might mean dessert after a meal, or butter on popcorn. If I binge, it is usally difficult to get back on track...like I am missing all the extra food. Kana

I think any body exercise is great to end your workout with (puchups, pullups, dips, ect..). Dips are great because you work so many body parts including your traps, chest, triceps, abs, shoulders and many stabilizers. This can be a great way to end the workout and make sure that you have totally hit you peak while doing an ubwo. Another exercise I like is putting my feet up on an exercise ball and doing pushups. Take care!

I can't either, I sleep too late, and to do cardio on an empty stomach at 10 am and then wait an hr after to eat for the fat burning to continue, I only get 4 meals in a day, so I workout when I get up after I eat a little something, drink my coffee and stretch out my back, then I'm really ready for a good workout!
Linda
So, why do you sleep so late? Is it by choice or you get off too late from your job? I agree that to eat your first meal that late is not good. That's one more reason it's best to get up early, workout on an empty stomach, eat an hour later, and then go back to sleep if you must!
Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (133 posts) at 01:51 PM
I have to agree with Lonnie, try getting up a little early to do that HIIT. Your body will adjust after a week or so, its just that mental block in the beginning. But make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep!

Sparkle, I have not been able to do morning workouts either. In fact, my workouts are usually really late in the evening after the kiddos are in bed. Most likely not the best time to have the greatest effect, but I have been having progress anyway. Point is, plan your workout for when it's convenient for YOU. When you can get it done, with no interruptions, but not too tired to get a good workout. I read that if you can't get your workouts done in the morning, the next best time would be in the early evening, at least 3 hrs after a meal. You will have varying advises/answers on this subject, but I can understand if you can't get up early enough in the morning. I would have to get up at 4:30am to get mine in, and that is SO not happening! Hang in there!

I had tried this years ago but never found the support like I had this time around after I joined this site. I can finally see my toes again, I'm not longer feeling greasy from fast food and I can walk up and down stairs two at a time and not start wheezing...oh well I want to look good in the mirror too but don't we all?

My C1 is ending on the 18th and I was wondering if you really have to take time off in between challenges? I really don't feel like stopping. This challenge has been less than perfect so I don't feel burned out at all. I know that if I stop I will gain back what little weight I lost from C1:( I want to keep moving forward not back! I'm seriously thinking of starting my C2 on the 19th and just going for it! What do you all think?

It is great that you do not feel the need to take time off.
Go for it, but do take some time to think about C1- what worked, what didn't, what can be improved, etc.
Sharpen that mental focus, revisit goals, and blow us away!
Yours in Health,
Kerry

First of all, congratulations on making it through your first challenge - you should feel so proud of yourself. I don't think it's necessary to take a break at all, but I do think our bodies will tell us when it needs to rest. I hit a wall a few weeks ago and lost that loving feeling for the gym and was just really burned out. I took 3 days of rest (still ate on plan) and it really helped me get fired up again. So, just listen to your body and good luck with C2!
Body for Life Forum Message by LeoGirl (181 posts) at 09:40 AM
Thanks so much everyone. I really did learn a lot from C1 and I'm going to make sure C2 is even better! I want this to be a lifestyle.

Body for Life Forum Message by ocpanther65 (133 posts) at 10:27 AM
Well lets face it, this C1, C2, and C3 stuff is just a measurement of time. But this programe is for Life and it really shouldn't be a program, at all, it should be a group of healthy habits that you develop and stick to. I think the only time this should be referred to a challenge is when you are competing either here on tracker or for the BFL contest. We all need a C1 but after that we chould strive for a Lifestyle and move on to other goals in life and through BFL. If you like to break down your success in 12 week intervals thats great but as for taking a week or two off every 12 weeks, I don't think thats what this lifestyle is all about. Would a person trying to quit smoking take a week off in twelve weeks, would aomeone in AA drink for a week every 12 weeks and would a world class swimmer quit swimming for a week every twelve weeks? The most challenging thing for me is not the physical aspect of BFL but the mental one. I think that if you take that week then you will break a little bit mentally and will fall back a little. Keep up with the lifestyle and live long, healthy and prosperous! Good luck and I am sure you will choose what you know is best for you.

LeoGirl, do what you feel comfortable doing, but I tell people (all the time) that if they aren't absolutely 100% SURE that they have the discipline to take a week off and then jump back in the next week, to not risk it. I have seen people OVER and OVER take a week off and lose their motivation and end up having a REALLY hard time with C2.
I didn't take any time off between my challenges until between C3 and C4. That was because I was going to be traveling... and "Aunt Flo" kept coming for picture day!!! So, I took a week without working out, tried to eat BFL, and got right back at it the next week. I KNEW that my discipline was there, I KNEW that I would not waver, I KNEW that I had to keep on keeping on, no matter what. I was actually pretty miserable without the structure of BFL. I am happy living this way!
What I would recommend is between challenges to take a little time to re-write your weight workouts and change things up a bit. I use 3 alternating UBWOs so when it is an UB Monday, I use it; UB Wednesday's have their own; and a third for UB Friday's. I vary my leg workouts similarly.
Sounds like you are on a roll... I'd keep on building that Body for Life!!
Body for Life Forum Message by iceskater (276 posts) at 05:09 PM
I didn't take a break between challenges. I am just in my 4th week of C2 and I just take time off when I am sick or dealing around minor injuries.
Good luck with C2!
Body for Life Forum Message by DreamCatcher (613 posts) at 07:05 PM
Do whatever you feel is best. I didn't want to take any time off in between challenges, but I ended up taking a week off because my husband was going out of town and we are doing our challenges together. I knew he wouldn't have a way to work out and eating would be difficult for him too. So I took a week off with him, but kept my eating fairly decent, but no workouts. Many people dive right into another challenge, keep going strong...but I think others do benefit from a little time off. So again, do whatever you are comfortable with!
Jennifer

Absolutely. Do what you think will work for you. I said earlier this year I don’t necessarily believe in ‘challenges’ but use them as a measurement of time. Or, they are a personal challenge when one needs a motivational kick in the pants. Best of luck to you.

Please continue to pray for Julie and her family. During your church services tomorrow if you will set aside some time to lift up Julie as well as her donor’s family we would be most grateful. Thanks to each of you who offered prayers for her today.

You and all of the other finalists get their reward by watching us, the rest who would like to follow in your footsteps blossom and grow.
I am proud to tell you that i had to go and do a stress test today, this was my final of tests to see why i have high blood pressure. Its a month since my doctor saw me last and today marks the end of week 3 for me on the bfl challenge.
Not only was my doctor impressed with the "physical" change but was blown away when i managed to complete the stress test (something that i had not managed to complete last year and was "stopped" by my cardiologist when my heart rate reached its 70% max due to the fact my blood pressure whet over 220/170). When i reached my 90% max heart rate he said ok pan we can finish now but if you want to keep going its safe to do so....so i continued running on a 10% incline and only stopped him when i was at my 95% max because my legs were sore from Wednesdays LBWO.
10 Mins after my test he re took my blood pressure, it was 130/75, a month ago with the same medication it was 170/97.
Thank you Russ, thank you to the rest of the finalaists, thank you to all of my fellow bfl brothers and sisters for continuing to inspire us all and to have finally made the difference in our life.
God Bless from Cyprus
Pan

Once, along time ago, in galaxy far far away, I was able to order a Body For Life shirt off the EAS website. Now, I find no such creature.
Anyone know where one could buy a BFL shirt?

Welcome back Greg! I've said this before, and I'll say it again...in the end I don't think it matters at how many times you try to do BFL, the point is that you haven't given up trying! I know it is hard, we all have our own struggles, but you are not alone! Most people fall off the wagon from time to time. The best thing that you can do is just pick yourself back up, and not look back!

I need structure, so I use a small spiral bound notebook that is colorful to keep me cheery. I write down my meals, which I plan either the night before or beginning the day, list my workouts, and any other feelings. It has helped me stay on track, and given me a place to write my thoughts and feelings.

That top 20 has never ever made any sense to me so I don't put alot of merit into it.
With this profile name change & such (uh yes it is going on) why don't we ALL change our names then we can spend the next few months trying to figure out who is who. Doesn't that sound like a fun little exercise?
Body for Life Forum Message by Karla (431 posts) at 07:08 AM
One profile. And it's actually my name. When I first signed on here, I felt I had nothing to hide, and I didn't want to feel I had any ulterior motives for being here. So, Karla it is, until I come up with some ulterior motives.
There is no way I'd have the time to maintain more than one profile. I barely have time for one!
As far as the top 20, it doesn't bother me one way or the other. It's a nice little thing to have on this site, but it's pretty clear that we're missing some awesome transformations. Still, there are some fantastic ones listed, as well. So, whatever.
If people are really changing profiles to get in the top 20, if it's *that* important to them, I say let 'em. I really don't care.
Body for Life Forum Message by Persephone (358 posts) at 07:16 AM
Only one profile for me too. I don't worry too much about the top 20 but I don't like it when people hide behind fake profiles to have a poke at someone else--or make it look like everyone's ganging up on a certain thread/poster.
Body for Life Forum Message by ReenieC (115 posts) at 07:45 AM
I have only one, and the top 20 isn't too important to me. I'm not here to win votes, or win over anyone so I don't pay attention to it. But, I am here for the motivation and support and hope that I offer that to the members here.
If people are creating multiple profiles, I'd say they must have too much time to spare and they're too worried what others think. I understand why some do change profiles, but to have multiple ones seems pointless.
If anyone is doing this, maybe they can share what their reason(s) are so we can understand??
Body for Life Forum Message by LOVE4KIDS (27 posts) at 08:09 AM
I have one profile and As others have said the top 20 doesn't matter much to me. I get more motivation by checking out the updated photos and profiles every day. It is great to see the progress people are making each week. Karyn

I have one....never would consider having more than that-but thats me. Im with Karla on this-When I joined I used my name becuz I have nothing to hide. I figured if Im gunna do BFL and do it right-I need to be accountable for how awful I looked and for my actions on the site.
Obvisiously theres a few folks here who havent gotten the "real" meaning of BFL and the integrity that its built on.

I have one. I am in my 5th challenge, and never made the Top 20 until this challenge. I have never been one to post that much... I usually post when I feel I can help in some way. I have been disappointed in the past when people have made the Top 20 and they are like 20 years old... posted their week 0 photos in a bikini, and without even starting the program they make the Top 20??? What's with that? I believe in this site as an informative, encouraging place to get the help I so desperately was looking for when I came here nearly 1 year ago. I have NEVER been part of the clique that everyone refers to "missing" all the time. I am just a lone BFL adventurer who was looking for support during my journey and now my goal is to take anyone who will go with me to the life that BFL offers! I don't need two profiles for that.

Good post gbfan. You're a perfect example of what Karenna's talking about with people who kinda lay low but have a great transformation and it goes a bit unnoticed - what a shame. I did notice yours some time back.
As well, even for someone who doesn't care about the top 20 I still do have to comment about what you wrote. Yes, I've seen exactly what you're talking about; on more than a couple of occasions I've seen these profiles that are in week 0 in the top 20 - its just kind of laughable to me.
Good luck gbfan, your attitude & outlook is a good & healthy one - nope 2 profiles not needed for that!!!!

I've only got one profile and don't understand the need for more. I saw something really funny in the top 20 earlier this month... someone was in the third or fourth spot and when I clicked on her profile name, it didn't even contain photos yet...???? She had posted to several threads and her boyfriend was posting a lot at the time, but she hadn't added any photos and was in the top 20. I definitely don't put much stock in the top 20 list, but I do vote for people who inspire me with their transformations.
gbfan, I have to agree with Tracey - that was an excellent post.
Body for Life Forum Message by gbfan (313 posts) at 10:46 AM
Thanks, Flower and Miss Fit. I've always tried to stay away from controversial posts, that's probably part of why I've flown under the radar on here ... as I choose to use this site for encouragement and information only.
But, I let the Top 20 list kinda bother me early on in my days here, because I felt it should represent what we are looking for in our BFL journey. Since then, I have taken it a lot less seriously and don't put a lot of stock in it... it does make me feel good that someone notices my dedication to this program, but it will not keep me from pushing myself harder at every workout and it certainly doesn't make me go to the gym for more treadmill time.
I get much more encouragement and inspiration from these posts and PMs from others. It would be great if the Top 20 list was a true representation of what BFL does for people, but then again Supa K brought up a point that I had never even considered.
I vote for someone when I see a true change in their physique that is a direct result from their hard work and dedication. I hope that's what others are doing, too.

Great thought provoking post. I only have one profile and feel much the same as what has been said above about having multiple ones...I don't see the point of it.
I don't put much stock in the top 20 either. When I first started it was kind of a secret goal of mine to be in the top 20. But seeing that it really isn't all it's cracked up to be I know that I wouldn't want to be in there unless I truly had had a great transformation. Don't get me wrong, most of the people in the top 20 have had amazing transformations but I too saw the same profile Miss Fit saw and had to laugh about someone being in the top 20 with no pics. It kinda diminished it for me.

gbfan, you inspire me. You look FANTASTIC! You have really transformed your body. And I think one of the things that is really important that seems a bit uncelebrated is the consistent improvement. So many get great results in 12 weeks and then drop off, only to post a year later that they've gained the weight back...and more. I am most inspired by those of you have adopted this lifestyle and continue to strive for improvement (even after you look dynamite). I just finished my first challenge and feel like I gained the tools I need to get better and better as I get older. I have found this to be my weapon to fight back the crazy physical changes brought on by perimenopause. I'm going to sale through menopause because I'm not going to let it reshape me!

Thanks, Framed. I just checked out your profile. Would love to see you post some pics... you're TINY! And you have great goals!
Staying with BFL for a year has been a huge source of pride for me. I have NEVER stayed with anything for a year... except my husband and my jobs! Ha! It always saddens me to see people do 12 weeks and then go back to the way things were. My goals were always to give this thing a year... so now, my new goal... do this thing for LIFE!

I have one profile.
Although, I am in the Top20, I don't put too much stock in it. Funny to me that my hubby Russ40 had an incredible transformation back in the spring, but he rarely posted and therefore never ended up in the top20...or maybe just for a very short time. I however, posted a lot back then and my numbers went sky high. That means that it is a popularity contest. Russ40 had on of the best transformations up to that point, but was not a popular poster and didn't make the Top20. Just interesting.
Back to the 2 profiles thing....if you click on the "homepage" link on Agent69's profile, it takes you to Gymbeamin's blog. Am I to make the assumption that they are the same person??????????? Looks that way, but why?
Stef :-)
Body for Life Forum Message by Go4steffie (725 posts) at 06:49 PM
Oh, one more thing. If Russ40 and I do a couples challenge in 2006, we will be creating a seperate profile for pictures only. The profile photos will be progress of both of us together.
Stef :-)

what? wait... two profiles?? why would someone do that?? everyone seems to know something i don't.. or maybe im just slow.. but what advantage would someone have in doign that? you can't change yourself in your pics.. so ppl would know right away wouldn't they?? oh and if you didn't gather after that speal.. i have one and only will ever have one. I come here for support and info.. so why would i need a new profile?

I completely understand situations like why Khubbard 'retired' his profile and started a new one. (Buckeyeboy). I think that was very noble of him.
He did this so that he would not be in the limelight and give others a chance, to step back and go the extra mile in private. I think he did this for good and honourable reasons.

Body for Life Forum Message by tcstone (571 posts) at 09:31 PM
hm. interesting. I never really thought about having two profiles.
There are some people who have created profiles just to post stuff in "secret" so we wouldn't know who they are. That seems rather silly to me. And annoying.
But even with hiding my face....I am afraid my body isn't one you would forget. Maybe would want to forget....haha.
Top 20 is a popularity contest. It is meant to be fun. That's the way I see it.
