Perhaps it's a bruise or strain. If you really worked your pecs last time, maybe you just haven't recovered. Little tears occur in the muscle worked through resistance training. We have to heal after every weight training session.

Would someone please tell me why protien powder is so popular? I realize body builders use it all the time but why would someone doing BFL need protien powder vs. eating BFL foods? I'm difinitely jumping on the band wagon if it helps with results:) Patty

Body for Life Forum Message by chuckdiesel99 (812 posts) at 06:08 PM:
No need for it if you can make real food. Real food is always best.

Body for Life Forum Message by nola (22 posts) at 06:57 PM:
It's a convenience thing. It can be hard to make 6 meals a day, so supplementing with protein powder for some of the meals can help you get your protein in.

Alright, here's the deal... I fell off the wagon, well actually, I fell off of the wagon, off of the trail, and then rolled my fluffy butt out of the forest alotogether. That's how long it's been since I went to the gym and even attempted to do anything physical at all. So~ I'm committing to start not the 1st of the year, but today and I want to post a before picture, but the posting will be poposterous (if that's even how you spell it) and embarrassing. Some say to just throw it on for motivation and others say to post it when I have at least a few afters to show that I don't look like "this" (said with contempt and disgust) anymore. WHAT DO I DO?

Is anyone still following this story? I have been; so bizarre. I'm also beginning to wonder if they've got it confused as in she's the murderer he's the accessory. Interestingly I haven't seen anything on CNN but they've picked up a story of a shooting here in downtown Toronto. I would have thought this was bigger news.

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (941 posts) at 08:43 AM:
I have been following it.... and yea Kelly looks Guilty as hell. I saw the pic.s and footage of her leaving the courthouse and I hate to say it but man that girl looks like hell. Like she has been using drugs for quite awhile. It is very sad. More so for the family of the deceased. The story was on ABC Good Morning America yesterday with Melissa's (victim) mom and they showed a picture of Melissa. Hold on I will copy from another site her bio and all that jazz if you want and I will post it here.

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2094 posts) at 08:54 AM:
Teresa - yeah, I've seen it all. I've been following alot of it at this site as well as getbig.com. http://www.freecraigtitus.com/ It is very sad for her family - this story is unbelievable. This sounds awful but if you take away the factor that a girl was murdered this story has the makings of a trashy TV movie or an Anne Rule book. Where they were arrested!!!!!!!!!!!! Getting a pedicure (they had to add in the fact of cherry red polish), in the process of fleeing the country!!!!!! I'm completely dumbfounded! I'm more in shock about her though than him for some reason. Providing the facts are accurate, how can people be so dumb as to pull off some of the DUMB things they did?

Body for Life Forum Message by T~N~T (941 posts) at 09:03 AM:
yea thats where I have been checking it out too. I also have been hanging out on getbig too. Oh I know getting a flippin pedicure WTF? I have a whole new view of Kelly Ryan and it aint so nice! Yup they are not so smart. I see this on E! True Hollywood Story Hey are you posting on get big? There is a Flower LMAO and I was like nahuhhh... hehehehe I like that place.

It is really sad...the whole sorry mess. What boggles my mind is that Kelly was arrested while having her nails done--presumably right before they were going to leave Boston for some country that didn't extradite. I'd hate to be in their shoes. The whole thing sounds like an episode on CSI Los Vegas.

Thread: a little long.....but a good read.......for those over 40 (95 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by Agent 69 (409 posts) at 10:55 AM: a little long.....but a good read.......for those over 40
This is for all you women 40 years and over.... and for those who are
turning 40, and for those who are scared of moving into their 40's ...
AND for guys who are scared of girls over 40!!!! ... This was written
by Andy Rooney from CBS 60 Minutes.

Andy Rooney says:

As I grow in age, I value women who are over 40 most of all. Here are
just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night to ask,
"What are you thinking?" She doesn't care what you think.
If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit
around whining about it. She does something she wants to do. And, it's
usually something more interesting.

A woman over 40 knows herself well enough to be assured in who she is,
what she is, what she wants and from whom. Few women past the age of 40
give a damn what you might think about her or what she's doing.

Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with
you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of
course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, if they
think they can get away with it.

Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what
it's like to be unappreciated.

A woman over 40 has the self-assurance to introduce you to her women
friends. A younger woman with a man will often ignore even her best
friend because she doesn't trust the guy with other women. Women over
40 couldn't care less if you're attracted to her friends because she
knows her friends won't betray her.

Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a
woman over 40. They always know.

A woman over 40 looks good wearing bright red lipstick. This is not
true of younger women.

Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than
her younger counterpart.

Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right ! off if
you are a jerk if you are acting like one! You don't ever have to
wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons. Unfortunately,
it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed hot woman
of 40+, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of
himself with some 22-year-old waitress.

Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk
for free." Here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against
marriage, why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire
Pig, just to get a little sausage.

Body for Life Forum Message by Kerry (983 posts) at 01:47 PM:
Appreciated it all, but wasn't too fussy on the closer, lol. Funny, I've always appreciated and seemed to relate better to an older woman. Nancy may sometime deny it, but I married an older woman :) Best of all, the more grey hair ( or no hair )I get, the younger she looks. Yours in Health, Kerry

Awsome story, but Andy Rooney missed one: Wisdome is beauty. And I've yet to meet anyone wiser than a woman over 40.

Body for Life Forum Message by Gtnskinee (5 posts) at 02:33 PM:
Boy Drew, I wish I could agree with you, but I made some of my dumbest and BIGGEST mistakes after 40!!!! I thought we were supposed to get smarter with age (or at least wiser). I'm going the other direction. BFL was one of my wiser decisions. :)

Body for Life Forum Message by wdrew (244 posts) at 02:43 PM:

I made it in my BFL chicken enchiladas (got the book for xmas YAY). It tasted totally fine to me!

Body for Life Forum Message by georgiawendy (321 posts) at 11:04 AM:
I often boil up to six boneless, skinless frozen chicken breasts at a time for at least 40 minutes. Then I immediately shred them with two forks while they are still pretty hot. I usually use it for chicken salad, but it would work well for a lot of the recipes in EFL like the enchiladas and the chicken pita pizza.

Body for Life Forum Message by NormRebs (221 posts) at 02:35 PM:
I love the enchiladas from EFL! That is now my new favorite meal!

Body for Life Forum Message by Jennifer A (318 posts) at 07:21 PM:
When I boil chicken I use low sodium chicken broth instead of water and throw in some whole garlic cloves and maybe a bayleaf or two. They don't take that long to cook. 12 mins or so for 2-3 breasts. I understand you all are cooking volume though! And then I save the broth and freeze it. The broth is geat for cooking your brown rice!

I did lower body today and including abs, it ran 1:04 instead of the 42 the book says I should have. I'm following the technique as exactly as I can and it just seems I can't stay on schedule. Is this relatively normal, or do I need to pick up the pace? Some of it is because I'm doing a few left/right side exercises, but that doesn't account for 22 minutes.

there is a lot of debate about the long steady cardio vs. HIIT. i think that if you are training and do more cardio, but keep the weights and eating you can still transform your body. ultimately, it's about what works for you. i think of bfl as a blueprint that can be altered to fit everyones needs. bfl as it is is a great program, but that doesn't mean it's the only program that works or that it will work 100% for everyone.

Thanks for the replies. I think that I need to keep the two things seperate and try things that way for now. At this point in preperation for the ride, all of the riding done right now is just a slow pace for as long as my butt can handle :) At this point, my transformation is more important than the biking goal, since completeing this challenge is a very important element in being able to finish the bike ride.

I am curious how often all you women out there train your abs? I have never had a six pack but never tried either! I have also had 3 children by c-section. What should I be doing to get the best ab results?

Body for Life Forum Message by Flower (2094 posts) at 05:10 PM:
pk-rn - here's the workout I was telling you about. http://www.musclemedia.com/training/BootCamp.asp I've done this for almost a year. It certainly is good as far as I'm concerned but you can do this til the cows come home and you won't see any pack of any kind until your bodyfat is pretty low. To get the best ab results - try this, get your diet on track 100% and get your bodyfat down. Its difficult but can only be done by sticking to plan & persevering - um, like indefinately! Good luck! I had my family here in the city over christmas. I am type I diabetic and took my mum's fasted blood sugar because I was so worried about the food they have been eating. Sure enough, her blood sugar is way too high - she's at the very least insulin resistant. I told them about the BFL as they kept saying how much weight I had lost, but to no avail... we kept going to restaurants and they kept eating food that does nobody any favours..... *sigh* And do you think my mum is going to see a doctor?? Of course not...

Peopl who enjoy cardio must have something seriously wrong with them.... LOL =) Just kidding! But I am in the not-a-big-fan-of-cardio club! I don't know if what I do sometimes is actually good or not, but it gets me through my cardio when I really don't want to be doing it. Now and then when the thought of even 20 minutes on my bike is enough to make me seriously consider skipping cardio, this is what i do: 6 minutes on stationary bike 4 minutes on treadmill 4 minutes on rowing machine 6 minutes back on bike, but without tension, and I sprint instead. This is what works for me. I try to change it up a lot. Sometimes it's 20 whole minutes on teh bike. Sometimes it's 20 whole minutes on the treadmill. I used to sometimes do 20-30 minutes of TaeBo but I found I could do that without pushing myself but would kid myslef into believing i actually worked hard when I didn't. Good luck and do what works for you!! Happy new year!! Rene'

Body for Life Forum Message by georgiawendy (321 posts) at 01:46 PM:
I hate cardio too, but here's what I do when I need to shake things up... 10 minutes of intervals on one cardio machine, immediately followed by three sets of 15-20 reps of an ab exercise, then repeat this cycle two more times with different cardio machines and different ab exercises. It takes a little longer than usual, but it keeps me from getting bored. *NOTE* If this is your first challenge, please do BFL cardio by the book! You will have great results if you do it right.

Body for Life Forum Message by Tmbrwolf (15 posts) at 01:58 PM:
When the intensity level seem low on a machine, you need to step it up a little. Give it that extra push. The stairmaster might do that out of the gate, where as the elip. might just need that extra umph!

The BFL and cardio is one of the tools that will help me finish the mini...

Body for Life Forum Message by smp (21 posts) at 08:32 PM:
I have a love/hate relationship with cardio. I hate it. But I do it anyway. I break the 20 minutes into 4 "rounds". If I'm whining in the first 2 rounds, I tell myself to shutup. If I'm whining in the third round, I tell myself there is only one more round to go. If I'm whining in the fourth round, I ask myself how bad I want my body back. Ooh, that works every time. Then I finish and feel great the rest of the day. That's where the love comes in. :) I hate the cardio but love the results--glowing skin, endorphin rush, easier to walk up steps, lower bodyfat, etc. That makes it worth the effort.

I love you attitude about indulging in a bit of Christmas feasting. I decided before Christmas that I was not going to freak out about it. I did notice that I missed working out though. It's almost that you let yourself go and realize that the workouts aren't evil, but something that really does give you a differant outlook. I don't know which one impeeds wieghtloss, but between the two I usually go for the wieghts. That's only because I enjoy the lifting more than the cardio. Ursula

Body for Life Forum Message by DANCNQN (59 posts) at 07:40 AM:
If your goals are to lose weight, cardio is a must! Anaerobic activity burns calories as well. If it's only one day that you have to miss, and you're still going to do something... it's your choice.

Body for Life Forum Message by blemt (142 posts) at 08:47 AM:
Cardio is the one thing that I'm religious on. I don't miss cardio day. Ever. If something goes wrong, cardio keeps me from falling too far behind. Cardio good, but you can't skip many weight workouts. Remember you only have 18 or so weight workouts during a challenge.

Body for Life Forum Message by jeremy (1045 posts) at 09:35 AM:
This question seems to always stay strong. I would say weights only because you can do a circuit training and burn more calories that way.

Body for Life Forum Message by AirSpace (79 posts) at 11:33 AM:
If you're talking about missing just ONE workout, then I'd say cardio just because it's more of an active calorie burn... over time I think it's more damaging to miss your weights because losing muscle will reduce your fundamental calorie burning power. Erin

Body for Life Forum Message by Supa K (785 posts) at 11:36 AM:
The workout that, by skipping, will send you down the road of more skipping is the one you don't want to miss. Really, one workout -- I don't think it matters all that much in the grand scheme of pounds. Do the one you enjoy the most, or heck, do a little mix-up if you like.

Body for Life Forum Message by cfingram (1363 posts) at 11:46 AM:
I prefer skipping Cardio (if I need to skip it). I LOVE LIFTING WEIGHTS and if you do like jeremy says "Circuit" training, you'll burn LOTS of calories!

Body for Life Forum Message by Joe (a.k.a. Onyx) (98 posts) at 12:09 PM:
ok this isn't really an answer, but what I do when I miss a workout is make it up the next day. So for example, if I miss a weight workout, the next day I do that workput plus my cardio. Kicks my butt, but it acts as inspiration to make sure I don't miss another workout. It also messes up the rest schedule which is very important as well to recovery, but I figure it will even out when I don't miss another workout. Joe

Body for Life Forum Message by michiganmike (190 posts) at 02:22 PM:
Isn't the real question here, "Which of the two workouts is of the most overall importance?" In other words, if you need to miss something, wouldn't you want to miss something that would less impact your overall challenge results? If that's the case, I would certainly opt for missing a cardio session. Cardio is done 36 times during the typical 12 week challenge. Resistance training is done 36 times too, but only 18 per muscle group. So, if you miss a lower body workout, you've actually missed more than 5% of the ability to impact those muscles during the challenge. But if you miss cardio, the lost impact is only about 3%, in fact a little less. So, to miss a cardio session only impacts your challenge half as much as missing a resistance session.

Since I finished my first challenge last week, I have fallen off the wagon. Visions of holiday cookies, meals and Beer were dancing in my head (and in my stomach). Sure I finished my challenge and deserved to have a few goodies (that’s what I told myself)

but that was a week ago. I haven’t picked up a weight since, I am starting to see my energy levels go down and my motivation start to dwindle and depression start to set in .

I know it is only a week but I can definitely feel the difference between a healthy lifestyle and one that is not.

I can now see that this was not a quick fix program but a lifestyle change. If you let your guard down for just a moment, those old habits can sneak in and cause havoc on your motivation and focus not to mention your waistline. My before picture now hangs up on my refrigerator and in my weight room to remind me where I don’t want to go.

The holidays are a very special time with my family and friends and I need to remind myself to focus on my goals so I can be around for many more! Happy New Year to everyone and here is to looking forward to a healthy new year!

Body for Life Forum Message by Mucca500 (85 posts) at 09:43 AM: In Need of Help.....
ok this is a long one.im just looking for everyone's opinion here. im going through a rough patch. heres my story. about 5 years ago, i got very sick, constant hunger, lost a lot of weight, couldnt keep anything down, just overall very sick. i went from being diagnosed as pregnant, to being diagnosed with lupus. neither of which were accurate. after 4 surgeries, we figured out that i have celiac disease, but i didnt get a proper diagnosis from my 1st doc because she had me go on a gluten free diet 6 months prior to the tests, which gave it a false negative. the second doc gave me a diagnosis of celiac disease just from my medical history but didnt want me to do the blood test in fear of me getting worse, which means my body can't process gluten or wheat. and it's potentially fatal if left untreated. so i went on a gluten free diet and was on it until 8 months ago when i went to italy for my honeymoon. i decided to do a glutine challenge, where you introduce gluten back into the diet to get retested 6-8 months later. so now i feel awful.but i just need to know for sure! its hard living with this, and i dont want to spend the rest of my life in fear of gluten if i dont really have it! i guess i was just hoping it was all in my head and i was ok until a month ago, but now i have all my symptoms back again. and looking back on it i realized i have has symptoms for the past 8 months. which is another reason why i gained 30 lbs in 8 months and have been depressed. im going to the doctor on friday to get a second blood test, but im worried it will be negative. and then what do i do, is it really all in my head? i was wondering if anyone else here has had experience with this disease? thanks alexis

Body for Life Forum Message by Supa K (785 posts) at 10:04 AM:
I have not had any experience with either lupus or celiac disease, but am familiar with the gluten-free diet. Gluten-free is a pain -- especially for someone who is doing BFL -- but it isn't harmful. The fact that you can see all your symptoms have returned after having introduced gluten back into your diet tells me you're better off without it. Unfortunately, I don't know about the blood test you're speaking of or the reasons why you would get a false-positive. How would a blood test for celiac disease make your condition worse? If the test you get this weekend is negative, it doesn't mean you have to suffer. Just go back off the gluten -- it helped before. Best wishes -- sorry I'm not more helpful or knowledgeable. I have a good friend who tries to maintain a gluten-free diet for health reasons as well. It's pretty tough! Karenna

Body for Life Forum Message by Mucca500 (85 posts) at 10:22 AM:
hi karenna, thanks for your input! the reason it would make it worse, is becuase i had to start eating gluten again, and theres the risk of doing more damage to my intestines in that time period of waiting for the blood test. and the reason i got a false positive before was because my dr. had me go gluten-free for 6 months prior to the test, but i found out later from the 2nd dr. that you have to actually be eating gluten when you get the blood test done or else it can come out negative when you really do have the disease. i know i should go gluten free regardless of the tests, but you know how human nature is and we are just so curious! but i just need to hear it from a 3rd party. my friends and family all already tell me to stop eating gluten. thanks again. alexis

Bill Phillips was the ultimate marketer, and he surely checked out such a thing and decided it wouldn't fly. Most all fitness pitches are on infomericials on TV, except for those for a specific supplement. It's much more a visual rather than an audio medium. So, I don't think I would be much interested in hearing Body for Life type talk. Even the CD of the book can get a bit dry after a while. I try to review it regularly, at least once every quarter, and I find it tiring these days.

They do TOO call us DJs. :) I'm not sure if I'd listen. It would have to be pretty entertaining in order for me to listen more than once or twice because of the initial novelty of it. If I had a choice, I'd be more likely to watch it on TV or read it in a book, because, although BFL is as much (or maybe more) mental as it is physical, it's a very visual thing when you're learning. My first workout tape, which I got when I was about 12 years old, was a Jane Fonda workout and it was an audio cassette. Just audio. It was very frustrating for me because I had no idea how to do the exercises she was describing, I needed the visual. I think for a lot of the aspects of BFL, it's the same -- you need the visual. If it were about approaching the mental aspects of BFL, that would be valuable, but I wonder how much of that you can do without getting repetitive. At any rate, if it were available to me, I'd definitely check it out. This is one case where I'd love to be proven wrong. :o)

I have decided that Monday, January 2nd will be my official challenge start date. My husband is going to do it with me,unfortunately he doesn't have as much weight to lose as I do, even though he was a sympathetic weight gainer during both pregnancies. The good news is even with my little hiatus due to health issues, I have maintained my original goal weight. That is very awesome, since with most other diets I had tried I not only gained back what I lost, but then some. Is anyone else starting a new challenge in January that would be interested in being a challenge buddy? I noticed when there was accountability I did better, and unfortunately my husband and I tend to rationalize our cheats to each other lol.

Body for Life Forum Message by stepor (5 posts) at 03:03 PM: Hey everyone - my intro
I've been a lurker for a few days and been keeping up with the threads figure I should intro myself! Been a constant failure with this BFL contest, best I did was 9 weeks and 45 lbs though never finished a full 12. My first attempt was when Porter Stevens completed his way back when. Now I'm around 300 lbs and started doing karate over a year ago so I can at least exercise a bit and have developed enough self-discipline to get through the 12 weeks. I am ready to finish and get healthy. Julie Whitt's death struck me hard, I have bad lungs, no where near as bad as her but I do get hospitalized for a week or so every 2 or 3 years. But I will do this for myself, my family and in memory of her. I am doing a trial run this week to get my diet and exercise plan set, will be starting the contest on the 2nd. (And though the 'gym' is full I will still be here in a few weeks lol!) Live long and laugh everyone! Steve

I'm not quite sure why this is so much more difficult than pictures in a sports bra and short shorts... but wow is it hard for me to do!!! I think part of it is that I've never worn a bikini in my life. The other part is that I can see my progress from before to after in challenge 1. Now I feel like I'm starting all over again with these new before pictures because so much more of my body is showing. Eeeeek. DEFINITELY motivation!!! I told a few of you a while back that when I was 7 months pregnant with my son, I popped my lower left back (hip joint area) out and it caused me a lot of pain. Well I did something yesterday and must have slept wrong because I am moving quite gingerly today,,, I tried to do my Turbo Jam and had to alter some of the exercises so I could get thru the DVD.  Talk about pain...  You know, how many obstacles do one person need? I have had ENOUGH! Can the man upstairs give me a break for ONCE?  It is bad enough, that we all have demons talking to us in our ears, talking us out of working out, then when we knock that pain in the rear off our shoulder and get moving, something ELSE happens.

ENOUGH WITH THE TESTS, I WANT TO GET MOVING!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright gang...I'm gearing up for my next challenge on 1/2/06. I can't wait. I'm getting my log book in gear, cleaning out my lunch box, and dusting off my gym clothes. So, where I need help is developing some really KILLER lower body exercises. Yes, I know squats and lunges and such, but my booty needs some serious torture to dinish in size! Please post your favorite, no mercy lower body exercises here and I'll incorporate them into my plan. If they have an odd name, a link to where I can see pics would be fabulous. I'm considering getting Arnold's BB book. Anyone read it? Just really looking to kick my butt back into shape. And I am fully prepared for the handicapped potties and muscle ache creams for the first few weeks. :) Thank you! Danielle

Front Squats and sissy squats are awesome. Other than that you can stick to leg press, leg extensions, deadlifts. Leg curls the trick is to lift HEAVY to build. I would wait until your 2nd week before going super heavy let your body get used to lifting again. It's not about the exercise as it is about the weight. ;-) Good luck to you let me know how it goes! Yes the book is great! Love it esp. for showing different exercises. The workouts are a bit dated as I found out he hard way but it has a lot of good information.

Try this. Grab two dumbbells, put a flat bench behind you, put one leg stretched out behind you with the top of your foot on the bench. Now do one-legged squats. These are killer and require a lot of balance as well.

I had so much fun at the gym today, I got there at 2:15pm did my HIIT on the Ellipitcal then did a little extra on the treadmill
then a young guy comes up to me and starts talking and asking me all about BFL and said he used to do it and is getting back into it, He said he saw my pic poster on the wall and wanted to meet me.  ME!!!!!???? I was so honored and excited! we talked about the DVD set and it was just so nice to talk to someone that knew all about Porter and Bill Phillips and the program.

later, I got back to my workout and a girl comes and introduces herself and we talked and talked too

Later a guy walks in and was talking to someone else saying how he can't loose wt, well that was my cue, I thought, I was on a roll, feeling like I was a celebrity and BFL spokesperson, so I started telling him all about BFL, Well I couldn't sell him at 1st, he said that was another one of those starving diets, WELL I set him straight and when he saw my poster , he was like WOW< that was you before, so we talked, I think I got him interested,
so that's why I stayed 3 hrs at the gym today, having lots of fun talking, oh and yes I did get my entire upper body workout completed. I don't leave the gym until I GET*HER*DONE!!!

Thread: BFL at my local gym (54 Views)

Body for Life Forum Message by alvindsv (61 posts) at 08:44 PM: BFL at my local gym
My local gym is going to be starting up a local BFL Challenge the latter part of Jan. 06. I was talking with the lady today that heads it up, and if I understood her correctly they send in everyone's packet, and the official BFL judges will pick the over all winner from our gym's local challenge. I'm just glad to see BFL being promoted by the gym. On another note, I was getting changed in the locker room and overheard two older gentlemen were discussing nutrition. One stated that you've got to stay away from carbs in order to lose weight, they are bad for you, and the other one agreed. I'm sorry to report that I couldn't muster the courage to enlighten these two gentlemen. I don't know why. I almost started to say, "Well that's not actually entirely true". My brain wanted to say it, my mouth just wouldn't do it. Brian

That's ok Brian, we all want to say stuff, but sometimes our mouth won't open and other times it won't shut up! haha, that's usually my problem! hehe Linda

Body for Life Forum Message by helpdial911 (14 posts) at 09:46 PM: One last Hurrah!!!
Anyone else kind of living it up this week before Jan. 2nd rolls around? I tried to start Challenge 2 this week but there is so much candy and food still at work its hard to stay away knowing I can 'officially' start on the 2nd. Just wondering if anyone else is having one last hurrah this week also.

Body for Life Forum Message by J-Dub (92 posts) at 11:11 PM:
Yeah, knowing I'm "officially" starting January 2 has made it difficult for me to not eat everything in sight. Fortunately, I don't go back to work until the 3rd. I don't have any junk food in my house, and now that I'm done visiting family out of town, I'm gonna have to be good for a few days. :)

I tend to nibble at things I would normally pass up. It hasn't gotten out of hand yet. I have been in a 3 pound range so far. January 2nd - Eating for Life cookbook becomes the kitchen bible. Good Luck!

Body for Life Forum Message by ShaneLeighton (1 posts) at 10:49 PM: Hi guys, new member here
Hi everyone, I have lurked on this site from time to time over the years but never posted. I am starting over in my fitness journey, and after the last week or so trying to decide between different diets, like South Beach, Abs diet, Eating for life, and all kinds of different programs I have decided to go back to the basics and do a BFL challenge. So here I am ! I am looking forward to posting here and getting to know some of you and I hope that I can bring something valuable to the table. Just a little background, I have been training with weights off and on for 20 years. I grew up very athletic, but the past few years has brought injuries, some life matters, and a number of other excuses/reasons that led me to 230 lbs, a ridiculous 47 inch waist and very out of shape. My back is a constant problem and I am sure 75 percent of it is this ridiculous waist. So I am ready to get healthy. Looking forward to getting started!

Hey, did it not happen? If it didn't happen, thank you to all who put in time and effort to try. That was a tremendous undertaking. If it did get finished, thank you for the same reasons and please let me know how to get one. I hope everyone is having a great week.

Body for Life Forum Message by Hkrchic (10 posts) at 07:51 PM: Muscle Soreness
So I started this week strong, but now that I am working out again I am so sore! I do not want to slow down, so does anyway have any tips for how to help with muscle soreness?

Body for Life Forum Message by chefmikeyd (3 posts) at 08:00 PM:
Make sure you let those muscle groups rest between working them out again... 3-4 days.... once the original ouchies go away, you will not get sore anymore!! : )

Body for Life Forum Message by smp (21 posts) at 08:12 PM:
Glutamine works good for me. Lately I've been getting the glutamine through Betagen. In the beginning of this challenge I was mixing pure glutamine powder with water and drinking it post-workout. That really kept the soreness down. I also think glutamine helps me not to get sick! The germs at the gym always used to get me sick. When I take glutamine, I'm fine. Some people swear by it, some people hate it. It just depends on your body.

1 1/2 lbs. lean ground turkey 1 medium onion, chopped 4 egg whites 1 cup salsa (I like chipotle flavor in this - love the "smoke") 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats, uncooked 1 pkgs. Knorr Vegetable Soup Mix 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper 1/2 cup ketchup 6 portions red potatoes 2 lbs. green beans 3/4 cup skim milk 2 TBS Butter Buds® Preheat oven to 350°F In a large mixing bowl combine ground turkey, onion, egg whites, salsa, oats, soup mix and black pepper. Press mixture into 9 x 5 loaf pan and spread ketchup over top. Bake in a preheated oven until meatloaf is no longer pink in the center and juice is clear - about 60 minutes. Approximately 25 minutes after putting the meatloaf in the oven cut potatoes into 1" chunks. Place in a large saucepan and cover with cold water and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Cut stems off green beans and place in a large saucepan with 1" of water in the bottom. Heat to boiling over high heat; reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 6 - 8 minutes or until crisp-tender and drain. Remove meatloaf from oven and let sit for 5 minutes before slicing. Drain potatoes, mash with 3/4 cup skim milk and add Butter Buds®. Mash vigorously until potatoes are light and fluffy. (salt and pepper) Makes 6 portions - may be frozen after cooked if necessary for up to 2 months.
